All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, JNEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted I one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. f>. 1' ortraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article i's large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from ,5. s to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed ly the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer oi police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. 13 14. NS. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by C ( At Tl t Z 6 S. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received iiot later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only: they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. BEDFORDSHIRE. 2.— Bedford { Borough).— For obtaining a " Special Pocket Kodak" camera and £ 2 by a worthless cheque, 22nd ult.— C. GREEN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in, complexion fresh, hair light brown, moustache very light; wearing a greyish- fawn coloured overcoat, bowler hat. He asked to be shown some cameras, and paid for one value £ 2 5s. with a cheque, No. F. W. 89735, on the Union of London & Smith's Bank ( lost by one of their customers), Chancery Lane Branch, for £ 4 5s, made payable to C. Green in favour of H. Watkins. Warrant! issued. 3.— Bedford ( Borough).— For stealing a dark grey rainproof overcoat, velvet collar ( repaired), chain hanger; and £ 8, 28th ult. WILSON, age about 27„ height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in, slight build, complexion fresh, small face, hair brown, believed clean shaved, eyes grey, rather bad teeth; dress, dark jacket suit, gold colour watch chain, may be wearing the stolen overcoat. He took lodgings, 27th ult, stated he was a goods clerk, and had been transferred to Bedford from Birmingham. Absconded 28th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bedford. BERKSHIRE. 4. _ Reading ( Borough). — For obtaining goods by " false pretences— CHARLES WATSON, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 10 in, complexion fresh, rather high cheek bones, prominent chin, thin nose, speaks in rather low tone, slight American accent; dress, brown lovat cloth lounge suit, or blue serge suit, ' and may be wearing light freisse motor coat with strap at back, fancy striped cloth lining. He opened a shop here, which he called " The Devon Dairfl," and fit- ted it out very elaborate, advertised himself as corn, hay, straw, and horse dealer, obtained a Rem- ington typewriter, 2 milk carts, 2 governess carts, 2 sets of harness, all kinds of utensils, large quantities of hay, straw, corn, oil- cake, eggs, cheese, bacon, butter, lard, margarine, whiskey and cigars, which he immediately disposed of locally, cr consigned by rail. Absconded the first week in iMarch,, and is believed to have opened, another shop elsewhere probably in another name; Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Reading. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. 5.— Slough ( County).— For obtaining by false pretences, 25th ult, whole plate, " Thornton- Pickard, Imperial " Perfecta" camera, double dark slide, " Isostigmar " lens, by R. & J. Beck, wide angle lens by VVatj~ n & Sons, and stiff brown leather camera case— WILLIAM ST. CLAIR, Office No. S/ 100057, age 27, height 5 ft. 5f in, complexion fresh, hair light brown ( wavy), eyes blue, scar right eyebrow, right wrist, and back of neck, plausible manner; dress, greenish- grey over- coatj, dark trousers with stripe. A journalist; native of America. Left Slough by train 25th ult. for Ealing BJroadway. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 6.— Slough ( County). — For obtaining at Farnham Royal, 20th ult, by false pretences ( worthless cheque) an 18 ct. gold albert— Licence- holder JOHN ORAM, Office No. 1823- 08 ( Case No. 88, 22nd January), and Tabular Form, 5th February, 1908, age' 41, height 5 ft. 6 in, com- plexion fresh, hair black ( clean shaved), eyes dark brown, mole over left eyebrow, scar back left hand, of good address; dress, dark or navy blue jacket suit, greenish cap, dark tie with white spots, very wide welted boots, wore wedding ring 3rd left finger. A clerk; native of London. Well known at Finchley, N. Has lived at Ruislip, Middlesex. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pearman, Slough. CA MBRIDGESHIRE. 1.— Cambridge ( Borough,).— Fbr stealing a dark grey overcoat, sac back, velvet collar, false cuffs, may have " Warllaw & Reed, London " there- on; and about £ 14], 26th or 27th ult, from a Commercial Hotel GLOYER, age about 35, height about 5 ft. 6 in, complexion, hair, mous- tache ( turned up at ends) and eyes dark; dress, dark jacket suit, black bowler hat, button boots, very small linked gold chain, carried a brown bag, may be wearing the stolen overcoat. Stated he was a commercial traveller. On 26th inst. he was 6een in company of a Man, age about 30, tall, clean shaved; wearing dark overcoat, green cap. A painter; native of Aberystwith. May be found in South Wales. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jones, Aberystwith. DERBYSHIRE. 9.— Renishaw ( County).— For assault and wilful damage to a piano organ, 5th ult.— JOHN HUGHES, age 21, height 5 ft. in., good build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, scatr left side of chin, tombstone, " In memory of my dear Mother," soldier, heart, cross, and " Polly" left forearm, Crucifix and butterfly back of left hand; dress, dark jacket suit, dark cap and muffler. A native of Barlboroughj, Derbyshire. Is a de- serter from the 2nd West Yorks Regiment. He endeavoured to enlist in the Notts and Derby Regt., 28th March, at Nottingham, in name of John Fox, and may attempt to join elsewhere. ( See Case No. 10, 2nd inst,) Warrant issued. 10.— Renishaw ( County).— For housebreak- ing, 4th inst., and stealing 2 pairs of surgical scissors; 1 spirit level, maker, " Rabourne" on back; 1 small blacksmith's hammer; 1 nickel- plated alarm clock ( round); 2 ostrich feathers; 1 girl's white silk dress— A MAN, age about 25, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., good build, complexion dark; dress, dark brown jacket), brown cord trousers, blue muffler with white spots, brown cap. Supposed a tramp. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Andrew, Renishaw. DORSETSHIRE. U.— Sturminster Newton ( County).— For stealing ( bailee), 25th ult., a bicycle ( re- covered) DAY, age about 40, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, heavy moustache light, eyes grey, wears glasses; dress, grey Norfolk jacket and knickers, brown knitted vest, soft green hat, lace boots. Stated he was a traveller and represented a Lace Company at Nottingham; also that he was a native of Bath. Appears identical with George Day, Case No. 39, 15th January, and S. Carroll, Case No. 19, 5th February last. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Collins, Sturminster Newton. ESSEX. 12.— Grays ( County).— For stealing, 2nd inst., an engineer's 4- inch square— THOMAS W. ROCK- LIFF, age 26, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., com- plexion, hair, and slight moustache dark; dress, brown jacket, fancy knitted vest with black and white spots, blue striped trousers, lace boots ( nearly new), rubber collar, green tie, brownish cap. Has served in the Army. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jordan, Grays. 13 — Southend- on- Sea ( County).—¥ ov larceny ( lodgings), two cases— THIRZA THOMP- SON or TOMKINS, age 19 or 20, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh,* hair and eyes dark, one front upper tooth broken; dress, blue coat and skirt, black motor hat, brown fur necklet, button shoes. A native of Norfolk. Stated she was a member of the Salvation Army. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pryke, Southend- on- Sea. 14.— Colchester ( Borough).— For feloniously demanding with menaces 6s. 6d. with intent to steal — A MAN, age about 24, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion fresh, hair black ( curly), clean shaved, eyes dark; dress, dark suit, dark striped overcoat, violet tie, black bowler hat, black box calf boots, sometimes wears check cap, also wears heavy gold ring on right little finger, and pin. Usually has a brown paper parcel tied with cord or fastened with brown straps. He calls upon servant girls at large houses and represents that he is travelling for Messrs. Mitchell & Co., London, whom he states is opening a studio in the locality, obtains a small photograph which he promises to enlarge, and siubsequently visits them a second time with the proofs and some patterns of moulding. After a pattern is selected he demands a sum of money in advance. Within a few days he returns the photo- graph framed, which is found to be practically worthless, and then demands more money and threatens the purchasers with proceedings if they refuse to pay. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Colchester. GLA MORGA NSHIRE. 15.— Cardiff ( City).— For obtaining 3s. 9d„ by false pretences— FRANK WARD, alias HAY- WARD, age about 25, height 5 ft. 10 in., com- plexion fair, full face, hair light, clean shaved, back left hand swollen, of military appearance; dress, new blue serge suit, grey cap, blue and white tie, grey overcoat, boots much worn. Stated he was a wireless telegraph operator in the employ of the Admiralty. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Cardiff. GL OUCES TERSHIRE. 16.- Gloucester ( County).— - For obtaining 15s. by false pretences— DENIS REX TREVOR, age 36, height 5 ft. 1U in., complexion sallow, hair brown, eyes blue, long cut scar over left eye- brow, scar right side of forehead, American eagle, bird carrying letter, flowers, and Prince of Wales' feathers right forearm, head and bust of woman and girl dancing left forearm; dressi, brown check suit, light shootihg cap, brown dog skin gloves, lace boots. He takes private lodgings, calls upon clergymen, & c., in the neighbourhood, represents that he is acquainted with their relatives, in this case he obtained the above amount for the purpose of travelling to Surrey. Has been previously con- victed in London, Bury, Salford, Duns, Woolar, Chelmsford, Oxford, and Hereford. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Gloucester. 17.— Bristol ( City).— For stealing a lady's grey striped coat and 6kirt, trimmed black braid— — WILSON, alias HOUGHTON, age about 35, height 5 ft. 2 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair light brown, teeth protrude, notice- able when talking; dress, black coat and skirt, black hat trimmed black, may be wearing the stolen costume. Her correct name is believed to be Houghton. She ordered the costume, agreeing to pay for same on delivery. It was delivered, 20th ult., but she informed the porter that her husband was on his way to pay for it. Accom- panied by her Husband, age about 32, height 5 ft. 9 in.,, complexion pale, hair and small moustache black; wearing a frock and bowler hat, khaki black; wearing a frock coat and bowler hat, khaki coloured overcoat. A draper's assistant; and a Girl, age 5. Absconded same day. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 18.— Bristol ( City).— For stealing ( servant) £ 8 3s., 29th ult.— ALBERT DRINKWATER, age 18, height 5 ft. 2 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair light; dress, blue coat and vest, grey tweed trousers, green mixture cap. A barman, may seek employment as a billiard marker. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Bristol. HAMPSHIRE. 19— Bournemouth ( County).—¥ or house- breaking and stealing a cheque for £ 25, No. A. 6451, drawn on the London and County Bank, Bournemouth Branch, dated 25th March, 1909, by Johanna Payne, and made payable to Harriet Dicker, Johnanna was originally written on cheque but crossed through and Joanna written above; also a banker's pass book on the same Bank— A MAN, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., heavy build, full face, flabby, clean shaved; wearing dark blue or black shabby overcoat, dark cap. Carried a black hand bag. Information to Supt. Hack, Bournemouth. 20.— Fareham ( County).— For embezzling £ 16 at Fort Purbrook— TIMOTHY MOLONEY, an Irishman, age 35 or 36, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown; dress, blue 6erge suit, light cap or bowler hat, light lace boots. Formerly in the Lancashire Fusiliers Militia. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Carman, Fareham. KENT. 21.— Rochester ( City).— For obtaining a pair black box calf boots, black top band and facings inside, straight toe caps, round toes, American shape, size 8; 1 pair Maroon Grecian slippers, flat soles, no heels, size 8; and £ 1 5s., by a worthless cheque, No. S 48585, Bayswater Branch, London & County Banking Co., Ltd., 74 and 76 Westbourne Grove, London, signed John E. Ford, payable to A. Miller, Esq., 13th ult.— A. MILLER ( supposed false), age about 36, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion sallow, hair and full mous- tache dark; dress, black plain overcoat, dark trousers and cap. The cheque was one from a book issued to J. G. Walker in January, 1901, whose account closed the same year. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Rochester. LANCASHIRE. 22.— Skerton ( County).— For attempted rape, at Ellel, 18th ult.— JAMES BLAND, age about 23, height 5 ft. 9£ in., complexion fresh, hair light sandy, clean shaved,, eyes supposed blue, very talkative; dress, dark jacket, white moleskin trousers, double- breasted moleskin vest, white buttons, dark muffler, green cap, lace boots. A native of Kent. Is fond of singing and dancing in public houses. Absconded 18th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Barnett, Skerton. 23 — Liverpool ( City). - For stealing £ 20 by by confidence trick, 10th February last— JOSEPH COHEN, age 41, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion pale, hair dark brown, eyes hazel. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Liverpool. 24 - Manchester ( City).— SARAH JANE COOK, Office No. 2407- 00, Case No. 23, 26th ult., not now wanted. 25.— Bootle ( Borough).— For carnal knowledge of a girl age 7, 16th ult.— THOMAS iB ARLOW, age 30, height 5 ft. 4 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair and slight moustache dark brown; dress, navy blue serge suit, black bowler hat. A ship's steward. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bootle. LINCOLNSHIRE. 26. — Grimsby ( County).— For failing to report — Supervisee ELLEN WILSON, alias ADA MARY TERRY, LIL'Y BLACKBURN, MARY HALL, and ELLEN WILLIAMS^, Office No. 3210- 02, age 28, height 5 ft. 2| in., oomplexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes blue, mole over left eye; usually well dressed and of smart appearance. A native of Nottingham. Sentenced at Grimsby Quarter Sessions, 22nd October, 1907, to 12 months hard labour and 2 years supervision for stealing jewellery, which she obtains from jewellers' shops under the pretence of purchase. NOR THUMBERLA NO. 27.— Morpeth ( County). — For stealing, by trick, 19th February lastj, a bay draft gelding, about 17 hands, rising 5 years, white stripe down face, supposed a little white one hind leg, small side bone outside left fore foot, fore feet very, upright and narrow, in good condition— ABRA- HAM DAWSON, alias KELLETT, Office No. 723- 00 ( Case No. 59, 17th April, 1908), age 62, height 5 ft. 5| in., complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top) grey, full whiskers and moustache grey, nose has been broken), eyes blue. Has been convicted at Leeds, Exeter, Wakefield, Newcastle, Hunting- don, Pontefract, Liverpool, York, and Stafford. A well- known horse- thief.— T. BROWN ( supposed false), age about 60, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., hair rey, clean shaved; dress, dark steel grey suit, dark overcoat, hard felt hat, lace boots. Ap- pearance of a horse- dealer. Spoke freely of the grocery trade. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Morpeth. NO TTINGHA MS HIRE. 28 — Nottingham ( City).— For stealing from his lodgings, 24th ult., a silver Geneva hunter, No. 27880, white dial, believed, " JOHNSON, DERBY," stamped inside case; 1 silver curb single albert with silver heart pendant attached; 1 full length fawn coloured rainproof overcoat, Chester- field shape, collar same material, bone buttons to match, believed fly front, turned up cuffs, 2 oblique pockets, outside breast and ticket pockets inside, striped sleeve, no body lining; 1 hollow ground razor, " BOOTS, SHEFFIELD" stamped there- on; 1 6d. stick of " FRAM" shaving soap; 1 shaving brush; and £ 4— HENRY STEWART, alias HARRY WILSON and BIGGINS, Office No. 2104- 06 ( Cases Nos. 90 and 91, 19th ult.), age 29,, height 5 ft. 6 in., oomplexion fresh, hair black, eyes brown, medium build, " H. STEWART," sailor, girl, and " GOOD- BYE" right, jj H," clasped hands, heart, and " TRUE LOVE " left forearm ; dress, dark brown suit and cap, dirty white muffle?. A fisherman; native of Hull. He took lodgings at a private house in this City,, 24th ult., stated that he came from Liver- pool, and had obtained a situation at the electric piower station here, left the following morning, when he was seen wearing the stolen coat.
