W. 2. particulars concerning persons whose apprehension ii sought will be inserted in onb issue Of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken ' Upon them by another farce. H. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all case's where a reward is off ered, the ndme and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. fi. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer ol police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 6. 7: JS- TIOWS. ' 8. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovtry, at once transmit to the Editor notice, of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11 Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on & ne side of the paper only: they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13 The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. W. P. B." thereon; 1 marquise, set 19 dia- monds); 1 diamond cluster pendant; 1 half moon diamond brooch, small chain and safety pin at- tached ; 1 French gold bracelet, set 3 diamonds, 2 blue stones— A WOMAN ( supposed BECKY LEWINE), a Polish Jew, age 38 to 40, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion pale, hair black, eyes dark brown, speaks good English, quiet spoken; dress, blue costume, blue straw hat, trimmed blue roses, shoes. A domestic servant. 4.— E Division.— For obtaining £ 18 2s. 9d„ by a worthless bill of lading— G. MALOT ( sup- posed an Italian), age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, gesticulates when talking; dress, dark suit, fawn colour Chesterfield overcoat, black hard felt hat, carried an umbrella. May be found in fruit markets. Stated he was a dried fruit merchant of Bordeaux, that he had forwarded a quantity of fruit, & c., to be sold on commission, produced a bill of lading ( worthless), purporting to relate to the goods, and that the freightage had been paid by him. Warrant issued. 5.— L Division.— For forging and uttering a postal money order for £ 8 17s. 2d.— T. SYMONS, age 28, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fair, hair light, aquiline nose, scar on bridge; dress, blue double- breasted coat, blue trousers and vest, brass buttons, peak cap, gold crown and anchor on front, turn down collar, bow tie ( naval petty officer's uniform). 6.— W Division.— For obtaining £ 50 by false pretences— HENRY SMITH, age about 38, height 5 ft. 10 in., oomplexion fresh, hair light; wearing blue Melton overcoat, black hard felt hat. Warrant issued. 7.— X Division.— For conspiring to defraud — EDWARD ALCOCK, age 36, height 5 ft. 61 in., complexion pale, hair brown, eyes blue, carries his head forward : dress, dark grey overcoat, dark jacket suit, black hard felt hat. BERKSHIRE. 8.— Reading ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, 11th inst., at Pangbourne, a lady's gold ring, set 2 diamonds and 3 sapphires; 1 gold chain locket; 1 coil imitation pearls; 1 small rolled gold bangle; 1 chain of red coral beads ; 3 brooches, set brilliants; 1 silver lever watch, " G. K. F." en- graved on outside case— HERBERT — age 25, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion and hair dark, red speck side of nose, right side of face slightly blotched ; dress, brown jacket and cap, light fancy vest, small flowers on front, navy blue trousers, brown boots, carrying gloves. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, County Police, Reading. CHESHIRE. 9.— Crewe ( County).— For frequenting fat stock sale, and stealing ( person) a £ 10 Bank of England note, No. * 41260; 2 blank cheques, Nos. S 14674 and S 14675, on Manchester and District Banking Co., Ltd., amalgamated with the Lan- caster Banking Co., Ltd., Barrow- in- Furness— A MAN, age about 50. height 5 ft. 10 in. to 6 ft., good build, weight about 17 stones, complexion fresh, large nose, hair brown, splav feet: dress, dark over- coat, light trousers, hard felt hat, leather - watch guard, steel link in centre, carried a stick. Warrant issued. 10.— Crewe ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences— DAVID BENNETT, age 23, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair dark, clean shaved, black pimples right cheek bone, one over each eye, of Jewish appearance; dress, dark striped suit, tight fitting trousers, new broad pattern tie, hard felt hat, lace boots. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pearson, Crewe. 11 — Dukinfield ( County.— For obtaining £ 1 4s. by false pretences, 11th ins*., by representing that a piece of linoleum was double the measure- ment it actually was— PETER ASPINALL, age about 22, height about 5 ft. 5 in., slight bnild, complexion fresh, hair brown: dress, brown suit, can. lace boots. A native of Preston, Lanes. He travels the country hawking oilcloth and linoleum with a dark brown horse and a light trap, painted dark colour. " Peter Aspinall, SHockport," painted thereon. Has been employed on a liner trading between Man- chester and New York.— GEORGE GARTLAND, age 35, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, ship and lighthouse right fore- Arm, ring right middle finger, 2 Dragoon trum- peters left forearm, clasped hands and heart left wrist. A seafaring man; native of Seacombe. Warrants issued. Information to Supt. A clerk; native of Macclesfield. Represented that he was a, reporter on the Manchester Guardian. Has served in the Welsh Fusiliers. May have r © - enlisted. Ab- sconded 9th inst. Warrant issued. A milkman; believed a native of Hackney. Was an inmate of the Hackney Board • of Guardians' Training Schools at Brentwood till September, 1901. Warrant issued. 16.— Brentwood ( County). — For stealing ( bailee) 13s. 6d.— ERNEST BRUCE, alias ERNIE STUBBS, age 24, height 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, round shoulders, complexion fresh, rather thin face, hair dark brown, slight moustache dark, may be clean shaved; dress, rusty blue suit, shabby genteel appearance. An ex- Postman; native of Mountnessing. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Marden, Brentwood. 17.- Southend'on- Sea ( County). — For embezzlement— CHARLES DICKS, age 22, height about 5 ft. 2 in., slight build, complexion fresh, round face, hair light, eyes blue, stoops slightly when walking; dress, dark mixture tweed jacket suit, grey overcoat, mixture cap. IK.— Southminster ( County). - THOMAS - BARKER, Case No. 17, 27th ult., not now wanted. 21.— Southampton ( Borough).— For main" tenance arrears and costs— ALFRED EDWARD BAILEY, age 31, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache light, eyes hazel, " Rose" and" E. Bailey" right forearm, " Jennie O'Dale " left forearm. A hawker. Warrant issued. 22.— Southampton ( Borough).— For fortune telling— — LEE, age 38 to 40, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion and hair very dark, large prominent eyes; dress, long drab colour ulster coat, black skirt and hat, black . silk scarf, may be wearing a black three- quarter cape. A gipsy. Usually carries a wicker basket containing combs, & c., and visits domestic servants. Lives in a caravan painted dark green, windows lighter green, " J. Lee " thereon. Warrant issued. KENT. 2d.— Sevenoaks ( County). - For stealing, 12th inst., a blue mixture jacket and vest; 1 pair blue mixture trousers, red stripe; 1 black ve6t, white spots, double breasted; 1 blue and white Oxford shirt; 2 ties; 1 polo collar; 1 pair dark brown socks; 1 pair patent leather Lace boots, size 7; 1 green cloth hat, " Walter Bernard, German St., W." inside— WALTER REEVES, age 20, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, basket of flowers and snake tat- tooed on chest, woman's head left forearm; wear- ing the stolen clothes. A native of Derby. A deserter from the 2nd Royal Irish Rifles. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Taylor, Sevenoaks. A native of Prescot. Sentenced at Northampton Assizes, 14th Novem- ber, 1904, to 5 years penal servitude for arson ( stack). Licensed 12th August, 1908. e 555. May be dealt with where found. BLACK, age about 46, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., good build, complexion fresh, high cheek bones, broad features, moustache dark sandy; dress, dark overcoat and trousers, dark soft tweed hat. A theatrical manager, formerly a solicitor. He booked from Manchester to Holyhead, Hth inst., supposed en route for Ireland. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, \ YTarrington. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 19. — Bristol ( City).— For stealing, 28th ult., a light weight motor bicycle, marked " N. S. U." on tank at side, identification plate, " F. J. 67," a particularly small machine, in good condition— — SMITH, age about 30, height 5 ft. 2 in., hair And moustache light brown; dress, green mackin- tosh, tweed cap, black puttie leggings and boots. In possession of a motor driver's licence, in name of Harry Sidney Miller, issued at Bristol. He called at the shop of the Quadrant Cycle Company and stated he wanted to purchase a motor bicycle, he was shown one, obtained permission to try it, and rode away. Warrant issued. HAMPSHIRE. 20.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For stealing, 10th inst., a plain gold bangle, plain gold heart thereon; 1 lady's plain gold ring, " Mizpah " there- on; 1 do. gold dress ring, set 5 salmon coloured stones; 1 do., pearl in centre ( diamond shape), turquoise each side; 1 silver ring, set 3 pearls in centre, 3 blue stones each side; 1 small gold cross; 1 lady's silver brooch, half moon shape, surrounded with brilliants; 1 do. heavy long gold guard; 1 gold curb albert, spade guinea attached— TWO MEN ( lst, age about 50, height 5 ft. 6 or grey) dark, clean shaved; wearing dark overcoat, light motor cap. 2nd, age about 28, height 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair believed dark; wearing dark overcoat, motor cap or hard felt hat). They engaged rooms at a boarding house and represented that they were employed by a London firm doing electrical work in the Dockyard here. One man engaged the occupier in conversation while the other stole the above articles. Information to the Chief Constable, Portsmouth. A journalist. Sentenced at Lincoln Quarter Sessions, 21st February, 1905, to 5 years penal servitude for false pretences. Licensed 21st ult. Q a f 192. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 27. — Peterborough ( Liberty of). — For stealing a lady's gold watch and chain, gold key and locket attached; 1 pearl and turquoise brooch; 1 gold brooth, diamond shape, pearl in centre; 1 gold ring, set pearls; 1 silver locket and chain— CAPTAIN HADLEIGH ( supposed false), age 50 to 55, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., clean shaved; dress, dark grey jacket and knickerbockers, fancy vest, green shade, dark grey overcoat, lace boots. He hires motor cars, calls upon persons and offers to purchase houses and estates; also obtains clothing from local tradesmen. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Blackman, Peterborough. NO TTINGHA MS HI RE. 28.— Nottingham ( City).— For obtaining, by false pretences ( 3 charges), between 21st and 27th ult., a double- barrelled gun, steel barrels, " Jack- son, Gunmaker," on rib, " No. 45,398" thereon; 1 18 ot. gold Swiss split centre second chrono- graph watch, No. 3061; Bryan's Dictionary of Painters, 5 Vols., and a History of Engraving— Licence- holder HENRY FRANCIS HAMILTON, alias THOMAS FRANCIS WILKINSON HAM- ILTON, HENRY WYNDHAM FORTESCUE, HENRY FRANCIS GORDON NAPIER, " Db. GRANT and DOUGLAS," Office No. 3685- 97 ( ILLUSTRATED CIRCULAR 90, Figure 14), Case No. 103, 20th ult. and Tabular Form, 4th inst., age 64, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, hair grey, beard and moustache, has a fleshy growth on lower lip; may be wearing frock ooat and silk hat or brown check jacket suit, carries an umbrella in black casie. He came to Nottingham, 18th ult., took private apartments in the suburbs, called on tradesmen, and by representing that he was a retired doctor from Sussex with means, obtained the above goods, and left 28th ult. , Warrant issued. SHROPSHIRE. 29.— Oswestry ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, 10th inst.— — JONES, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 9 in., good build, complexion fresh, rather long features, thick upper lip, sores thereon, large forehead, wrinkled, hair light, clean shaved, eyes blue, piec « broken off one front tooth, Welsh accent; dress, dark brown jacket, blue plaid vest, grey breeches, brown leather leggings, light blue or green cap with dark stripes, heavy nailed boots, light colour leather watch guard, buckle fastener and a lady's silver watch. Had with him a light colour mackintosh, cycle cap, and a bicycle. He stated he belonged to the Farmers' Association, took lodgings for him- self and another man, who would join him the following day; talked a good deal of Wales, and said he had served in the Army. Absconded 11th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hamlet, Oswestry. STAFFORDSHIRE. 30. — Longton ( County).— For stealing, 8th inst., 2 horses ( recovered)— BERNARD FOSTER, alias WILLIAM BELL, age 23, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes brown, scar left cheek bone; dress, drab New- market overcoat ( much worn), dark trousers ( sup- posed cord), dark muffler, cap and clogs. A carter; native of Normacot, Longton. May be found in company of low horse dealers or hawkers of earthenware. Warrant issued. 31.— Longton ( County).— For non- payment of £ 6 5s. maintenance arrears— ALFRED DAVIES, alias ALFRED HALL, age 44, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes blue. A colliery fireman or collier. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Oakden, Longton. SUSSEX ( East). 82.— Hastings ( Borough).— For larceny ( ser- vant)— ALBERT VICTOR SMITH, age 21, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes dark, clean shaved; dress, greenish suit and cap. A butcher. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Hastings. WEST LOTHIAN. 38.— Linlithgow ( County).— For embezzling £ 127 10a— JOHN WILSON, age 65, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., small face, hair ( bald on top), beard ( closely cropped) and heavy moustache grey, eyes ( left weak and watery) grey, walks erect, smart appearance; dress, black three- quarter length over- coat, velvet collar, black morning coat, grey vest and trousers with dark stripes, black bow tie, light lace boots. A cashier; native of Glasgow. Has been in America and South Africa. May en- deavour to leave the country. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Linlithgow. YORKSHIRE ( East Riding). 34— Hull ( City).— For embezzlement, 26th August last— JOSEPH ROTENBURG, a German, age 21 to 23, height about 5 ft., complexion dark, hair brown, clean shaved, eyes blue; dress, com- mon brown mixture suit, black soft felt hat, lace boots.
