All communicationJ for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 8. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another forcc. •. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is off ered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. f>. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. O MS. 7 Announcements concerning stolen properly must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11 Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded sc as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the pape> only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering lette . 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13 The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. UNDER the existing arrangements the finger impressions will be taken, and recorded at the Finger Print Department, Convict Supervision Office, New Scotland Yard, of all persons convicted as follows: — ( à) All persons coming within Section 5, 7, or 8 of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871. ( á) All persons, at Assizes or Quarter Sessions, sentenced to not less than one month's im- prisonment, without option of a fine, for any of the offences shown below. ( c) All persons, at Petty Sessional, Police, or Stipendiary Magistrate's Court, sentenced to more than one month's imprisonment, with- out option of a fine, for any of the following offences: — Aliens ( Sec. 3 Aliens' Act of 1905). Arson. Assaults with intent to rob. Attempted burglary. Attempted larceny. Attempts to break into churches, houses, shops, warehouses, & c. Attempts to obtain goods and money by false pretences. Bankruptcy offences. Being found on enclosed premises. Breaking into churches, houses, shops, warehouses, & c. Burglary. Cattle stealing. Coining. Conspiracies of all descriptions. Embezzlement. Entering with intent to commit a felony. Extortion by threats. Felonious wounding. Forgery. Fraud. Frequenting. Horse stealing. Housebreaking. Suspected person. Unlawful possession. Uttering counterfeit coin. Warehousebreaking. But all offenders of the first Division, and such of the second Division as have never been pre- viously convicted, are exempted from this order. In order to avoid the retention of useless records in the Finger Print Department, the Registrar of Habitual Criminals would be glad if the Chief Constables of Counties, Cities, and Boroughs, will, in future, notify the death of any criminal who has been finger- printed. The notification should contain the full name and aliases, particulars of conviction, or con- victions if possible, also the No. published in the list of Habitual Criminals. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. Warrant issued. 4.— L Division. — For obtaining £ 12 10s. 9d. by a worthless cheque— FRED or TED MAR- SHALL, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 11 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair and heavy moustache brown, thick eyebrows, eyes blue, bad teeth, stoops slightly; dress, blue lounge suit, hard felt hat. Believed a native of South Africa. Warrant issued. 5.— T Division•— Wanted for wilful murder — referring to Case No. 2, 13th inst., amended description— WTLLIAM WARD ( known to the racing fraternity as " WARDIE"), looks 40, hair turning grey at sides, eyes grey, splay footed, aquiline or Roman nose. Absconded 30th ult., carrying 2 wooden flower boxes, ft. lon£, 2 ft. wide, 5 ins. deep, con- taining wearinc apparel. Is addicted to drink, and may at any time be arrested for drunkenness or any other petty offence. Special attention of Pro- vincial Forces is called, and enquiry at common lodging houses, low class public houses where lodg- ings are let, is earnestly requested. Bassett" on handle; 1 pruning knife, dark bone handle, steel on end; 1 grey overcoat, 2 slits at back, vertical pocket; 1 grey muffler — FRANK MAC- DONALD, age about 40, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, moustache dark, eyes brown, may be growing a beard, tattooed both arms, believed Queen's head and stars and stripes on one; dress, old brown coat, cord trousers, patch on both knees, dark cap, white muffler, Army boots. Appearance of a tramping labourer. Is believed to have served in the Army. Supposed a native of Swansea. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Griffin, Coleford. 22.— Bristol ( City).— For stealing from his lodgings, 6th inst., a silver English lever watch, No. 758423, " J. J. Graves' Express English lever" on face, minute hand and part of hour hand miss- ing; 1 white metal watch; and £ 1 SCUTT, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion pale, hair ( turning grey) black, white patch about the size of a 4s. piece top of head, moustache dark, eyes blue, of good address; dress, light tweed suit with dark stripes, cap of darker material Army boots. HAMPSHIRE. 23. — Alton ( County).— For stealing 15th or 16th inst., at Bordon Camp, a " Rudge- Whitworth" bicycle, No. 441773, black enamelled, usual parts plated, 28 in. wheels, slightly dropped handle bars, inverted lever front brake, rubber pedals, Rudge- Whitworth saddle, double top bar, " Rudge- Whitworth " transfer on head— WILLIAM LOVELL, age 19, height 5 ft. 5J in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown, coal mark on nose. An absenteee from the Royal Field Artillery. A native of Neath, Glamorganshire. Information to Supt. Reuben, Alton. 24. - Gosport ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings at Brockhurst, 11th inst., a pair of silver sugar tongs, scallop shape— A MAN, age 33 to 40, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion and hair ( very long) dark, aquiline nose, clean shaved, bad teeth, much discoloured ( some missing), of foreign ap- pearance, plausible manner; dress, dark tweed three- quarter length overcoat, dark tweed suit, hard felt hat, narrow brim, lace boots, carried an umbrella. He stated he was a doctor of medicine, and that his son was going to stay at a local boarding house. Information to Supt. Cottle, Gosport. 25. - Winchester ( City). - For obtaining, by false pretences, food and a " Rudge- Whitworth" bicycle, No. 420404 " on crank, free wheel, black enamelled, plated curved handle bars, 28 in. wheels, plated rims, " Rudge- Whitworth " tyres, saddle and bell, rubber pedals, 2 brakes worked with 1 lever, mudguards, " Rudge- Whitworth" transfer on back mudguard, plate on head, " 60 Crescent" believed thereon— JOHN HARVEY, age about 35, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion pale, hair ( bald patch on top) and eyes brown, slight moustache light; dress, dark brown jacket and cap, blue serge trousers, red tie, lace boots. He took lodgings ( in two different parts of the City), represented himself as a signal box fitter on the Great Western Railway; at one place he stated he was working days, at the other nights. Hertford ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, 11th inst., at Welwyn, a gold keyless watch; 1 lady's gold watch, white dial, shell shaped back; 1 gold curb chain, green stone and pear shape pendant, and 2 medallions ( 1 blue and red, 1 green and white, " NUTSE " thereon); 1 lady's imitation gold chain with tassel; 1 gold ring; 1 lady's gold do., set 2 sapphires, 1 diamond; 1 gold ring, buckle and strap pattern, small diamond on each side of buckle; 1 pocket knife, white handle, 3 blades ( 1 broken); and £ 3— A MAN, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 7 in., stiff build, complexion fresh, full face; dress, dark brown mixture suit, dark overcoat, black bowler hat. LANCASHIRE. 27.— Liverpool ( City).— For stealing a suit, from his lodgings, 6th inst.— HENRY WOOD- WARD, age 30, height 5 ft. 5 in., slight build, complexion ruddy, long thin face, hair ( curly) dark, clean shaved, Scotch accent. Stated he was a theatrical scenery painter. Information to the Head Constable, Liverpool. 28 — Manchester ( City).— For failing to re- port— Licence- holder JAMES HILL, alias SMITH, SMETHURST, and BENNETT, Office No. 1509- 01, age 56, height 5 ft. 2\ in., com- plexion fresh, hair ( partly bald) grey, eyes blue, flag, sailor, and sword right forearm, crossed flags left hand. A native of Manchester. Sentenced at Liverpool Assizes, 25th July, 1901, to 7 years penal servitude and remanet of former sentence for burglary. May be dealt with where found. 29 — Manchester ( City).— For failing to re- port— Licence- holder ANNIE CAINEY, alias TAYLOR, TURNER, HARRIS, and REENAN, Office No. 1976- 01, age 33, height 4 ft. 7£ in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes brown, scar each eyebrow, burn mark on neck. A native of Burnley. Sentenced at Oldham Quarter Ses- sions, 26th January, 1906, to 3 years penal servi- tude for larceny ( person). Licensed 10th February, 1908. g 3. May be dealt with where found. 30.— Manchester ( City).— For obtaining £ 10 by false pretences— WILLIAM KELLY, alias JONES and C. H. HORLEY, age 60, height 5 ft. 9 in., round shoulders, slight build, complexion sallow, clear cut features, bald on top and strag- gling moustache grey, flat chest, lisps slightly; dress, grey coat, double- breasted, dark green trousers, wore a large pin in tie. He inserted in a local daily paper the following advertisement: — " Wanted, smart useful man to collect rents, & c.; state age and last employment. Address, No. — at the printers." Later he met complainant by arrangement at a dwelling house ( where he had engaged a room for two days) in a suburb of the City, and induced him to deposit £ 10 as security prior to being given an appointment. WILTSHIRE. 81.— Devizes ( County).— Reman Jed till 24 th inst., charged with shopbreaking and stealing clothing, groceries, & c.— GEORGE KING, age 19, height 5 ft. in., slight build, complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes brown, lighthouse tattooed on right shin, cross centre of chest, several blue dots back of left forearm, ship back of hand, star left calf; dress, blue overcoat, brown cord trousers. A native of Southampton. States he haa broken into several Post Offices, but refuses to say where. Information to Supt. Pinnell, Devizes. PORTRAITS OF PERSONS WANTED. PERTHSHIRE. 82.— Perth ( County).— For stealing wine, and obtaining a situation by a false character— ALBERT TIVENDALE, alias THOMAS TIVEN- DALE, Office No. S/ 16313, age 42, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue. He obtains situations as butler to a country family by means of false characters sent from a bogus address. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Perth. ISLE OF WIGHT. 34. — Newport ( County).— For fraudulently converting to his own use, £ 201 lis. 5d., monies of the Postmaster- General— GEORGE FRANCIS 9COTT, age 30 ( looks older), height about 5 ft. 6 in., hair, moustache, and eyes dark; dress, dark suit, grey cap. Late sub- postmaster at Shanklin. Is said to have been a clerk on the Great Northern Railway, King's Cross. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Newport, Isle > f Wight.
