All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another forcc. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases u- here a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in farce against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be . TIOATS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be j jar an teed by an office t of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a numner, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranyed by counties. 9. The farce which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11 Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13 The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. A native of West Hampstead. He was employed as a clerk on the London and South Western Railway. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Bedford. 6.— Bedford ( Borough).— For stealing from his lodgings, 31st ult., a 9 ct. gold curb bracelet, padlock and safety chain attached; 1 lady's 9 ct. gold watch, chased back, very old; 1 9 ct. gold curb bar brooch; 1 gold knot brooch, turquoise in centre; 1 9 ct. gold dress ring, set 2 rows of rubies and diamonds, 2 stones missing; 1 do., set 4 tur- quoise ( 1 missing); 1 lady's silver albert, a two Anna piece and half of a silver pencil attached; and 2s. 6d.— A MAN who gave the name of STEWART, age about 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fair, hair and small moustache light, may now be clean shaved, long thin hands, very plausible; dress, dark brown jacket suit, greenish cap, lace boots. Goddard, Wokingham. 9.— Windsor ( BoroughV— For stealing from his lodgings, 2nd inst., a pair of patent leather boots with kid tops, size 8, plain toe caps; 1 stick of William's shaving soap ; 1 tablet of Pear's soap ; 1 tin Nugget boot polish; 1 Nugget brush— JOSEPH HASTINGS, age 28, height 5 ft. 5* in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eves hazel; dress, greenish striped suit and cat). Had with him a very small tin clothes box, handle on top. Is a Reservist of the Dorsetshire Regiment; believed a native of Balham. Has been emploved as assistant ir a regimental coffee bar. GLOUGES TERSHIRE. 18.— Gloucester ( County).— For obtaining credit by fraud— DAVID KING, a Scotchman, age 50, height 5 ft. 6 in., square build, complexion fair, hair ( turning grey, bald on top) light, noee slightly pock marked, scar right cheek, of smart appearance, well educated; drees, blue serge suit, square cut jacket, white tie, black hard hat, flat brim, light box calf boots, dark brown kid gloves, carried an umbrella, crooked handle, gold plated cap. HER TFORDSHIRE. 20.— St. Albans ( County).— For obtaining a fawn colour hunting mackintosh, and £ 1, by false pretences, 23rd inst. Had with him an old cart, red wheels, and a dark chestnut horse, about 15 hands, " Harding" on ring of bit ( sup- posed stolen). Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Information to the Chief Constable, Manchester. 27.— Warrington ( Borough). — ± 01' stealing, 3rd inst., a " Hopf" violin, cracked near bridge, 4th string and key missing— FRED MONEY, alias JAMES WARDE, age 22, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, left fingers deformed, wears glasses. A clerk native of Sleaf ord. Plays violin and may seek engagements at theatres or music halls. Sentenced to one month hard labour at Nottingham, 23rd November, 1906, for stealing a portmanteau from a railway station. Warrant issued. Photograph can be seen on application. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 28.— Oundle ( County). — For obtaining, by false pretences, through The Bazaar, Exchange and Mart, 5th ult., a gold English lever watch, No. 1061, makers, Anderson & Son, Newington Causeway— Licence- holder ARTHUR HEATH- COTE, alias GEORGE SWAIN, WILLIAM EDWARDS, and CHARLES A. SHAPCOTE, Office No. 1497- 01 ( ILLUSTRATED CIRCULAR 64, Figure 15, and Tabular Form, 5th June last), age 78, height 5 ft. 6J in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes grey; wearing frock coat and Alpine hat. A native of Whitby. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. MacLeod, Oundle. 29.— Northampton ( Borough).— For stealing £ 74 7s. 7d., lst inst.— ARTHUR GOODRICH, age 35, height 6 ft., very slight build, hair brown, clean shaved, wears glasses; dress, dark grey overcoat, shepherd's plaid trousers, brown cloth hat. Has been employed as a stage manager. Absconded lst inst., and left by train for Euston. Will probably endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. RENFRE WS HIRE, 30.— Paisley ( County).— For obtaining £ 8 by false pretences, between 8th and 21st ult.— HUGH JAMES HEPBURN SMITH, age 30 to 35, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, wears light brown wig, upper teeth artificial, stoops slightly. Supposed a native of Bangor, Down. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable of Renfrew- shire, Paisley. D. M. S." left forearm. A native of Longton.— JOSEPH COTTON, alias LANK, age 34, height 5 ft. 6| in., complexion fresh, hair sandy, eyes grey, right little finger crooked. A native of Fen- ton. Both are rag gatherers and stay at common lodging houses. Warrant issued. 32.— Longton ( County).— For an offence under the Mines' Regulation Act, 11th ult.— ALFRED BAILES, age 19, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes brown. Supposed a native of Stoke- on- Trent. Is believed to be work- ing as a miner in Yorkshire. Absconded about 20th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Oakden, Longton. SUSSEX ( East). 33.— Brighton ( Borouyh).— For stealing a lady's new 18 ct. gold ring, set 3 rubies and 2 diamonds, claw setting, " lo8 " scratched inside—- Licence- holder SOPHiA ANNIE WATSON, alias ANNIE WILSON, and STUART ( Case No. 32, 2nd ult., and ILLUSTRATED CIRCULAR NO. 69, Figure 18), age 44, height 5 ft. 3£ in., complexion fresh, hair auburn, eyes blue, scar right temple, mole left cheek, artificial teeth; dress, blue costume, large black hat. She took apartments at a first- class boarding house, 20th, and left 25th ult., without paying her bill. On 24th ult. she called at a jeweller's shop, purchased 2 rings, and in payment tendered a cheque on Farrow's Bank. The manager refused the cheque and got the rings back, but immediately she lelt the shop he missed the above- described ring. The same day she ob- tained goods and cash by a worthless cheque on the same bank, No. 235984, payable to Mrs. Stuart, and signed " Annie Watson." Also obtained £ 4 from the cashier at a dairy by a worthless cheque, No. 235985. Information to the Chief Constable, Brighton. WARWICKSHIRE. 34. - Birmingham ( City). — For embezzle- ment, and stealing £ 5 12s. 6d.— JOHN DRURY LIGHWOOD or LORD, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 in., rather round shoulders, complexion sallow, long thin face, hair ( curly) dark, moustache and eyes brown; dress, blue serge suit, black hard hat. A clerk; supposed a native of Hereford. Has been employed in a merchant's office at Liver- pool, Manchester, and Bristol. May seek similar employment. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Birmingham YORKSHIRE ( East Riding). 35.— Hull ( City),— JAMES BATTALL, Office No. 446- 05, Case No. 51, 10th April, and Tabular Form, lst May, 1908, deceased. YORKSHIRE ( North Riding). 36. North Ormesby ( County).— For steal ing a hand bag ( recovered) and £ 8 from a van— JOHN DARBY, alias HENDERSON and BRADY, age 26, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair dark, clean shaved, talks quickly; dress, dark suit mixed with brown ( nearly new), muffler, cap, light tan colour boots. Has worked in several shipyards on the Tyne. Since June last he has travelled with a cinematograph company. A native of Sunderland. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Dennis, North Ormesby. A clerk. Warrant issued. Extradition proceedings will be taken if necessary. Information to the Chief Constable, Manchester.
