XXV., No. 2576 n. 4. 3Efc3E3 O O JLm All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations reluting to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. Particulars as io stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified, hi all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. fi. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, utiless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge viill range from 5s to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the oise may be. 6 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an i of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. ** Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they ari alphabetically arranged by counties. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not Inter than Saturduy morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only: they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. In the event of the body of the above being washed ashore it is requested that information be at once wired to the Metropolitan Police Office, Scotland Yard, London, S. Warrant issued. 2.— E Division m — For uttering a counterfeit coin, 21st ult.— GUISEPPI ARESTONI, an Italian, age 23, height 5 ft. 4£ in., complexion fresh, round face, hair and moustache brown, eyes hazel, cut scars 2nd and 4th right fingers, left middle finger and both thumbs; dress, green striped tweed jacket and trousers, blue serge vest, tweed oap, brown lace boots. A kitchen porter. Ab- sconded from bail. Warrant issued. 3.— J Division.— For obtaining by a worth- less cheque on the British Bank of Commerce, 56 Moorgate Street, E. Represented she was a nurse, engaged apartments, stated she had lost her purse and return ticket to Tunbridge Wells. Warrant issued. G.— w Division.— For obtaining £ 2 2s. by false pretences — HARRY DERRY, age 33, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion, hair ( long, curly at back), and eye6 ( large) dark, clean shaved; dress, light grey suit, white straw hat. An actor. He represented to the relatives of an inmate of an asylum that he was authorised to take inmates to the seaside, and was paid the money for expenses. Warrant issued. A butcher, may seek employment as a barman or waiter. Frequents race meetings. Left here on 17th inst. for Stockton. KENT. 20.— Sandwich ( County).— For obtaining Is., 14th ult., by false pretences ( selling margarine for butter)— WILLIAM ROBINSON, age about 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fair, hair dark brown, slight moustache dark, may be clean shaved, eyes grey, very plausible; dress, dark mixture tweed suit, cap, dark tie, lace boots. Accompanied by a woman, age about 20, short. Has a dark bay gelding, about 15 hands, good action, large 2- wheeled spring cart, shabby, too large for horse. Hawks margarine which he receives from the rail- way station, having been sent from London ad- dressed to " W. C. Thompson." Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Stone, Sandwich. LANARKSHIRE. 21.— Glasgow ( City).— For obtaining £ 20 by false pretences, 15th ult.— HEINRICH NOVAK, age 26 or 27, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion sallow, hair, whiskers, and moustache dark, American ac- cent, harsh voice; dress, bluish grey suit, black felt hat. He received from the firm he defrauded j a letter containing a cheque payable to the firm, i purporting to be signed by Diamant and Vadasi, oil and colour merchants, Budapest, without the sum being stated, which he filled in 2,000 kronen, and induced the firm to endorse the cheque, pre- tending it had been sent to meet his expenses, afterwards pointed out that it was limited to 1,500 kronen, and that he had rendered it useless. He obtained the £ 20 which was due by the firm to Diamant and Vadas. Absconded 15th ult, stating he was going to Manchester. His luggage consisted of a hat box, Gladstone bag, and hand bag. LAWSON, age 35 to 37, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fair, clean shaved; dress, grey suit. He travels the country, calls on shopkeepers, representing himself to be an agent for Fry & Sons, Chocolate and Cocoa Makers, Bristol and London, offering to send a show case on deposit of a few shilling, and gives a receipt, signed " Messrs. Fry & Sons." Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Leicester. NORFOLK 28.— Holt ( County).— For stealing, 15th ult., £ 2 — WILLIAM PURKISS, alias G. Both natives of Norwich. 26.— Norwich ( City).— For stealing, 21st ult., from his lodgings, a lady's skirt; 1 marriage cer- tificate— WILLIAM HUMPHREY, age about 22, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., complexion and hair dark, clean shaved, recently operated on for varicose veins in legs; dress, blue jacket suit, trousers patched at seat, blue cap ( braided). Appearance of a fisherman. Will probably use the name Robert Newby Thomas, the name on the certifi- cate. Information to the Chief Constable, Norwich. SHROPSHIRE. 27.— Wem [ County).— For stealing, 17th ult., a " Premier" bicycle, free wheel, 24 in. frame, black enamelled, handle bars slightly raised, roller lever brakes ( right one out of repair), rubber pedals, No., supposed " 221078," on frame under saddle, Premier transfer on head— TOM BRAD- LEY, age about 23, height about 5 ft. 5 in., com- plexion fresh, rather long features, hair and mous- tache light, stammers badly; dress, fawn colour coat and vest, black trousers, with narrow white stripes, light cap, strong lace boots. GREAVES, age 28, height 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, clean shaved, red scar right wrist; dress, brown tweed suit, hard felt hat or cap, brownish overcoat, orange colour boots. He calls on persons who advertise businesses for sale and obtains sums of money under the pretence that he can get a larger price than they ask. SUSSEX ( East). 29.— Lewes ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) a mare— JAMES SARTER, age about " 40, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., stout build, complexion and hair dark, full face, clean shaved; dress, dark grey jacket and vest, blue serge trousers, light cap, brown boots. A dealer's assistant. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Lewes. 30.— Eastbourne ( Borough).— For stealing 24th ult., 2 brown cotton vests; 1 new merino vest; 2 pairs stockings— ALEXANDER MACKENZIE, age about 39, height about 5 ft. good build, com- plexion brown, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, mole left side of nose, mole left chin, several left upper teeth missing, walks quickly, erect bearing; dress, long frock coat, silk facings, turning green, fancy vesit, stone colour trousers, bluish tie, white straw Alpine hat. He represented himself to be an analytical chemist, and that he had recently re- turned from South America. Absconded 24th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Eastbourne. SUSSEX ( West). 31.— Arundel ( County).— For stealing, 25th insib., a grey mare, 13 years, 14 hands, scar under pad, thick mane, rather long tail; a set of silver- mounted harness, black leather, rather old; and a 2- wheel cart, very old, painted dirty black, " Harry Haggett, Arundel," on a piece of tin, cork in axle for cap; 2 rugs ( 1, brown and striped; 1, dark woollen with white stripes); 1 blue melton over- coat— A MAN, age about 35, height 5 ft. 8 in., thick set, full face, clean shaved, of gipsy appear- ance; dress, dark square cut jacket, white cord trousers, neckerchief, brown cap. WO ROES TERSHIRE. 33.— Stourport ( County).— For stealing, 25th July, 1908, a leather bag containing clothing ( re- covered)— SIDNEY FRANK ROBATHAN, age 32, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., rather round shoulders, complexion fair, hair brown, heavy eyebrows, clean shaved, eyes ( large) grey, speaks quickly, twitches right side of face, " Mildred" tattooed one fore- arm; dress, brown suit, light cap, an electric tram- car fitter. Had in his possession a character given by Mr. Mahood, Electric Power Station, Smeth- wich. Photograph can be seen on application. Absconded 12th ult. Accompanied by a woman, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 6 in., good build, complexion fair, hair ( inclined to sandy) golden. Had with her a new green tin box, a dark tin box, 2 long grey coats, 3 dresses ( 1 brown, 1 black, 1 blue), 2 hats ( 1 pink, 1 blue). Warrant- issued. Information to Supt. Walker, Stourport.
