All coin munications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating t,, them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NKW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be. inserted m one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, i/ they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by mother force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In nil eases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. f>. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is targe or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5i to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 6 8. 9. 10 11 12 13 rxr t. « L> JNI « *. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an tffieei of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received riot later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter All payments must be in advance, either at the office, Sew Scotland Yard by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. SPECIAL NOTICE. IN certain cases questions have arisen as to the payment for photographs applied for by Police Forces under Home Office circular of 15th March, 1897. The Registrar of Habitual Criminals is therefore authorised by the Secretary of State to say that, in any ordinary case, a photograph is not necessary to enable his Department to identify a prisoner, the finger prints alone being sufficient for the purpose; but if a photograph is applied for, or if, in any rare case, it should be re- quired to complete the identification, the cost will be charged to the Police Force interested. A groom; native of Gloucester. Sen- tenced at Cardiff Assizes, 17th March, 1906, to 3 years penal servitude for larceny. Licensed 17th ult. a g 12. Warrant issued. 3.— C Division.— For obtaining over £ 20 credit while an undischarged bankrupt— RICHARD ATKINSON, an Irishman, age 26, height about 5 ft. 11 in., complexion fair, hair light, eyes blue or grey, pencilled eyebrows, very effeminate, high- pitched voice, has a habit of twirl- ing his stick or gloves when talking, usually wears an eyeglass; dress, grey tweed morning coat suit, brown bowler hat or straw hat, fancy band. He stays at hotels and boarding houses, and leaves without paying his bills. A forage dealer and traveller; native of London. Mav endeavour to leave the country. CA M BRIDGES HIRE. 13. — Cambridge ( Borough). — For obtaining board and lodgings by false pretences, 16th and 17th inst.— FRED WOODS ( supposed false), age about 30, height about 5 ft. 5 in., freckled face, hair light, clean shaved, front upper teeth pro- minent ; dress, light grey suit, grey striped overcoat, blue wrapper, lace boots, silver colour chain with medal attached. Had with him a blue cap. He took lodgings and stated he was a shunter on the Great Eastern Railway, and had been transferred from Ely. After he left, the following articles were missed: a navy blue single- breasted jacket, black bone buttons, makers, " Smart & Son, Cambridge " on tab, a Medical Institute card in one pockeft; 1 red and violet silk handkerchief. Warrant issued. 14.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For stealing, 11th May last, a " Roadster" bicycle, North Road racing bars, with flat lever brake, plated wheels with back hub screwed both sides, Bate ® ' tandem back tyre, new thick mudguards, lamp bracket on handle bar, transfer on back and front tube ® -: MORRIS ( supposed false), age 22 to 24, height about 5 ft. 6 in., rather stout build, com- plexion, hair, and slight moustache dark, believed lame left foot; dress, dark jacket suit, cap. CA RNA R VONSHIRE. 15.— Conway ( C'* inty).~- For obtaining: monev bv false pretences— J. K. LEAROYD WHITE- HEAD ( supposed false"), alias CAPT. WHITE- HEAD, PLATT, and LEE, age 26 to 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion sallow or sunburnt, hair dark brown: dress, dark grey tweed lounge suit, white straw hat, strong waterproof tan colour boots. Supposed a native of Oldham or Rochdale. He stays at first- cla- ss boarding houses and hotels, and in one case tendered a cheque in payment of his bill for a larger amount, and received the change. The cheque was signed Shaw, Whitehead & Co., Ltd. He also pre- sented a cheque to a tradesman, signed J. K. Whethead, both cheques being returned " No account." Believed wanted elsewhere. CHESHIRE. 16- Liscard ( County).— For shooting with intent to murder, 29th inst.— WILLIAM WALTER HALL, age about 39, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., beard brown, leans slightly to right side owing to congenital curvature of spine, left leg shorter than right, sole of left boot 3 ins. thick, walks lame. Carried a small hand bag and stick. ( See Case No. 43, 6th September, 1907.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. McDonald, Liscard. 17 Middlewich ( County).— For embezzle- ment— HYMAN SCHORSTEIN, an Austrian Jew, age 24, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion dark, clean shaved. Warrant issued. Thompson, Middlewich. 18.— Birkenhead [ Borough:.— For failing to report— Licence- holder JOHN KENNEDY, alias JOSEPH WATSON, Office No. 1511- 00, age 28, height 5 ft. 10i in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, scar centre forehead and left wrist, cross and dot left forearm, ring 2nd left finger. Pitt, Woodyatt, Ashbourne," nearly new— FRANK GILBERT, alias FRANCIS GILBERT, Office No. 1585- 05 ( Case No. 7, 10th April last), age 26, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes dark blue, bust of woman, heart, and dagger right forearm. A painter; native of Wootton, Beds. Sentenced at Bedford Quarter Sessions, 31st October, 1906, to 12 months hard labour for cycle stealing. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Burford, Ashbourne. 20.— Chesterfield ( Borough).— For failing to report— Supervisee EDWARD SWINDALL, alias EDWARD MARSHALL, JACKSON, and GEORGE BAKER, Office No. 995- 03, age 39, height 5 ft. 5i in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, scar on nose, heart, woman's face, anchor, and crosses left forearm. A collier; native of Alfreton. Sentenced at Derby Assizes, 2nd December, 1905, to 12 months hard labour and 2 years supervision for shopbreaking. Liberated 19th October, 1906. 2206. To be dealt with where found. 21 — Chesterfield ( Borough).— For stealing ( person), 17th inst., £ 12— PETER KELLY, age 40, height 5 ft. 10 in., hair dark brown, eyes blue, coal marks on face; may be wearing a brown Nor- folk iacket. A miner or labourer. Information to the Chief Constable, Chesterfield. DORSETSHIRE. 22. — Dorchester ( County).— For obtaining, bv false pretences, 1st inst., a cheque on the Wilts and Dorset Bank, No. 18884— WALTER HONET- BUN, age 25, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, 2 scars left of forehead, girl's head on chest, man and lion, heart and dagger left forearm, Red Indian, clasped hands, and star right forearm ; dress, brown mixture coat and vest, dark grey trousers, dark cap. " Fattorini k Sons, Bradford," on dial; 1 English lever do., makers, " Fattorini & Sons, Bradford," on dial, " John Shankland " printed on inside of case; 1 small Geneva watch, white dial, black chapters, dent on back: 1 white metal watch, white dial, chip on diil at hour three— DAVID . TOTTNT- STONK alias DAVID XOTTNSTONE GLEN- DTNNTNG, S. C. R., No. 621- 1897, age 38, height 5 ft. 6i in., complexion pale, hair and moustache light, eves light grev, second joint of left little finger deformed, right little finger crooked, walks erect, takes short ouick steps, forward and assertivp in manner and conversation: dress, dark tweed overcoat, dark tweed morning coat and vest., light tweed trousers, dark felt hat, dark tie. light lace boots. A native of Dumfries. He obtains watches to repair and appropriates same. ( See Case No. 36. 3rd in= t... also convicted at Morpeth. 1st A 11 crust. 1906.) ^ arrant issued. South Shields ( Borough). — For bigamy— ANDREW MARTIN, age about 37, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion swarthy, hair and moustache dark, eyes brown. A marine fireman or miner; native of Blyth. In possession of a Shipp- ing Federation ticket, No. 4598, Blyth Office; has also served in the Royal Naval Reserve and the Gordon Steam Shipping Co.' s ships. His second marriao- e took place at the Registry Office, 28th July, 1906, in name of Clarence Victor Dalmeny. Was a bandsman at Methel. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, South Shields. ESSEX. 25.— Colchester ( County). For obtaining £ 5 10s. by false pretences, at Dovercourt, 11th inst. — FREDERICK W. POPE COX, age 60, height 6 ft., slight build, complexion fresh, hair ( nearly white) grey, eyes ( supposed) grey, stoops slightly, well educated, addicted to drink; dress, dark cape mackintosh coat, dark jacket, grey or light check trousers, light cap. Had in his possession a cheque book, and has cashed cheques on the Capital and Counties Bank, Ramsgate, signed " J. H. Harper." Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Ackers, Colchester, or to Inspector Coppin, Harwich. FLINTSHIRE. 26 Holywell ( County).— For stealing a dark grey overcoat; and a dark suit— B. DON0HOE, age 27, height 5 ft. 7 in., hair brown, eyes blue; dress, dark coat and vest, dark cord trousers, brown cap, blue striped rubber collar, military boots. Is a Reservist of the Dublin Fusiliers. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jones, Holywell. GLAM ORG A NSHIRE. 27.— Neath ( County).— For failing to surrender to his bail at Glamorgan Assizes, at Swansea, 16th inst., on a charge of false pretences— THOMAS ARNOLD FOX^ age 37, height 5 ft. 6 in., com- plexion fresh, hair light brown, moustache ginger, eyes brown, bullet scar in back, usually wears glasses when reading or writing. A commission agent. He served in the Imperial Yeomanry dur- ing the South African War. Is a pensioner, and drew the last two quarters' pension at Swansea G. P. O., and previously at Pontypridd. Photograph can be seen on application. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Williams, Neath. 28 — Cardiff ( City).— For obtaining 10s. by false pretences— S. LAWSON, age about 28, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion sallow, round face, hair verv dark, moustache dark, heavy eyebrows, eyes dark brown, pleasant manner, Bristol accent; drees, dark brown suit, snuff oolour showerproof coat, black bowler hat, lace boots, wore a heavy gold colour albert across chest. He calls upon shop- keepers, represents that he is in the employ of a Bristol firm, obtains orders for show cases, and asks for deposits, stating the eases will be forwarded in a few days. ( Is believed identical with S. Smith, Case No. 44. 22nd November, 1907.) Warrant issued. 29.— Cardiff ( City).— For obtaining money bv false pretences— WALTER HUDSON, age 45, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion ruddy, hair ( thin on top) dark, moustache ( turning grey1) black, eyes brown, heavy eyebrows, short nose, verv bow- legged, top of right fore- finger missing: dress, dark coat and vest, sup- posed light trousers, green- grey cap. A pastry cook. He advertised for a ladv with means to communicate with him wdth a view to becoming a partner in business, obtained a sum of money, amd absconded, 8t. h inst. Had with him a tin box packed in light paper. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Cardiff. GLOUCES TERSHIRE. 30,— Coleford ( County).— For stealing. 12th inst., at Newnham- on- Severn, a " Royal Swift" bicycle, cyclometer attached, straight handle bars, brackets on same, rims painted black, red lines, steel spokes, 27 in. frame, Dunlop tyres, 2 rim brakes, free wheel, rubber pedals, recently re- enamelled— HENRY PARRY, alias BACCA PARRY, age 29, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, scar right temple, burn mark under right arm- pit, 2 scars right fore- arm, both fourth fingers contracted, Oueen's head and Indian coin tattooed palm right hand, snake right forearm, Buffalo Bill right shoulder, Indian coin palm left hand, woman and " Clara" left forearm, woman's head left shoulder; dress, dark grev suit, dark cap, brown boots. A native of Newnham- on- Severn. Has been to sea on mer- chant vessels: may be found on public works or at common lodging houses. May try to dispose of bicycle. Warrant issued. 31 — Coleford ( County).— For stealing. 20th inst.., a horse, cart, ajid harness ( recovered)— WTLLIAM JOHNS, age about 30, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion and hair dark, clean shaved : dress, blue plaid suit ( much worn). A native of Gorton, near Swansea. Warrant issued. 32.— Coleford ( County).— For stealing. 15th insb., old iron ( recovered)— THOMAS HODGES, alias HODGY OUA, age 26, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache light, eyes blue, scar left and right cheek, and back of head, left arm partly paralysed to elbow, tattooed right arm, heart and dagger, 2 dots and cross fla. ps back right hand, 2 anchors, bracelet, and anchor back left hand. A rag and bone gatherer; native of Ross. May be found at common lodging houses. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Griffin, Coleford. CITY OF LONDON. £ 10 REWARD. 83. — F or stealing ( servant) <£ 250, 4th inst. — WILLIAM HENRY CRAWFORD, age 81, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, full face, hair ( wavy, cut short) dark brown, clean shaved, square jaw, dimple in chin, eyes bright blue ; dressed smartly. A butcher's manager. Is stouter than in photograph, which was taken 5 years ago. The above reward will be paid by Mr. John Alexander, 17 and 18, Bishopsgate Street, E. FIFESHIfiE. 85.— Cupar ( County).— For embezzling £ 70, between lst ult. and lst inst.— JOHN FORBES, age 31, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark; dress, black suit ( waiter's), black hard felt hat, brown boots. Is a Reservist of the Royal Highlanders. He was employed as manager and club master of the Golf House Club, Burntisland. ( See Case No. 17, 10th inst.) Warrant issued.
