All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by • mother force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. f>. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5.1 to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6 Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed {•!/ the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. LTIOKTS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an office* of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particular* concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZKTTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice nf the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, lor insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11 Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received iiot later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not Inter than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only: they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering litter 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13 The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing I'ersnns " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. BEDFORDSHIRE. 8.— Bedford ( Borough).— For stealing, 5tli inst., a silver watch and chain ; 1 plain gold safety pin ; 1 gold horse- shoe pin ; and £ 6.— AUGUSTE VASLOT, a Frenchman, age about 17, medium height, complexion fair, round face, hair dark; dress, blue serge suit ( new), light cap, brown shoes ( new). Speaks English imperfectly. May seek employment as valet or chauffeur. Information to the • liief Constable, Bedford. OA RNA R VONSHIRE. 9. — Pwllheli ( County). For indecently assaulting a girl, age 6J years— JOHN ROBERTS, age about 25, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fair, narrow features, may have slight moustache, artificial teeth, walks erect; dress, dark overcoat, dark brown coat and vest, blue serge trousers, greenish cap, red tie, tan colour lace boots. Had in his possession a revolver. About 2 years ago he was convicted of using explosives for the purpose of wrecking a house supposed in Glamorganshire. Is strongly suspected of stealing a bicycle, lst ult., see Case No. 11, 5th June. May be found sleeping in out- buildings. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jones, Pwllheli. CHESHIRE. 10.— Birkenhead ( County). — For stealing from his lo lgings, a gun metal watch, keyless, gold hands, glass cap over works; 1 silver double albert, heavy curb pattern, one swivel broken ; and 5s. Id. — THOMAS HENDERSON, age about 27, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion ruddy, hair ( worn low on forehead) and moustache ( curled at end) light brown, tattooed both arms; dress, blue serge suit, white muffler with blue spots, light plaid cap, heavy lace boots. Had in his possession a small buil dog revolver, 5 chambers, and a large quantity of cart- ridges. A native of Glasgow. Has been employed as fireman or greaser on steamships. Warrant issued. DURHAM. 11.— Durham ( County).— For failing to sur- render to his bail at Durham Assizes, 29th June last, on a charge of carnally knowing a girl under the age of 13, at Low Spennymore, between 28th December, 1907, and 5th February, 1908.— HENRY KIPLING, age 21, height 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair ( long in front) dark brown, eyes dark ; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, dark trousers and cap, black and white tie, red silk muffler, light boots ( toe caps), in possession of r> black and white necker- chief. A labourer; native of Bishop Auckland. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, County Police Office, Durham. ESSEX. 12.— Witham ( County).— For stealing, 12th inst., a Church Army Uniform overcoat and £ 3 10s. — JOHN RICHARDS, age 49, height 5 ft. 5 in., com- plexion fresh, hair ( turning grev) brown, moustache fair, may be clean shaved, heart tattooed on chest, figure on both forearms, one toe damaged ; dress, dark suit, " Foster & Co., London and Oxford," on trousers buttons, narrow fine plaid pattern tie, grey cap. Supposed a native of Edmonton, London. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lennon, Witham. CLAMORGA NSHIRE. 13.— Bridgend ( County).— For stealing, 23rd ult., £ 10, at Pontycymmer— JOSEPH CHAP- MAN, age 29, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion sallow, hair and eyes dark, clean shaved lirge mouth and nose, Jewish appearance; dress, dark blue serge suit, bow tie, bowler hat, light lace boots. An auctioneer's assistant; native of Lon- don. He was convicted at Stalybridge, Cheshire, in December, 1907, and sentenced to 6 months im- prisonment for embezzlement and larceny. ( Iden- tical with Man, Case No. 39, 29th November, 1907.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Menhinnick, Bridgend. 14 — Neath ( Borough).— For stealing, 7th inst., clothing ( recovered)— WILLIAM MILLS, alias WILLIAM DAYIES, age 88 to 44, height about 6 ft., slight build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown ; dress, navy blue serge suit, bowler hat. Stated he was a police officer, speaks Welsh and English. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 15.— Neath ( Borough).— For leaving his wife and child chargeable to the Neath Umion— HENRY WILLIAMS, age 43, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion sallow, hair ( bald batch) dark brown, eyes brown. IS.— Gloucester ( County).- FREDERICK BEAYIS, Office No. 2777- 02, Case No. 20, 10th inst., not now wanted. 19.— Staple Hill ( County).— For obtaining 2 bankers' cheques, 1 Post Office Order, and £ 3 3s. by false pretences, 29th ult., at Winterbourne— HENRY WALKER, age about 38, height 5 ft. 5 in., com- plexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, Roman nose, slightly bow legged, London accent ; dress, dark clothes, black bowler hat, brown boots, has been a traveller in pipes, cigars and cigarettes. Absconded 29th ult., and the same day his goods were sent to Leicester. * Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cooke, Staple Hill. A member of the Hants Yeo- manry. A native of Lymington, Hants. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hack, Bournemouth. 22.— Southampton ( Borough).— For larceny ( lodgings)— BEllT SMOKER, age 27, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair dark, clean shaved, cut scar over left eyebrow, small lump right side jaw; dress, brown tweed suit with dark stripes, straw hat with striped band. HER TFORDSHIRE. 24.— Hemel Hempstead ( County).— For stealing a bicycle, 26 in. frame, 28 in. wheels, rat trap pedals, rams' horn handle bars, inverted lever front brake Eadie Coaster hub, " No. 2 B. B. 113" on handle bar at Great Berkhampstead, 10th ult — ARTHUR MAYNARD, age 22, height 5 ft 9 or 10 in., com- plexion sallow, hair brown, clean shaved ; dress, black coat anil vest, cold trousers, muffler, cap, lace boots. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Frogley, Hemel Hempstead. 25— Watford ( County). - For assault, and ill- treating a child, age 3 months - SAMUEL BIRCH, age 24, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., hair ( wavy) dark, eyes blue, right arm has been broken and not properly set; dress, grey jacket suit, fancy vest, with yellow stripes, brown boots. A ship's baker. Photograph can be seen on application. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Wool, Watford ISLE OF ELY. 26. - Wisbech ( County). For obtaining, by false pretences 19th ul'., a golf stick and £ 5 13s.— E. I'. SLADE, age 40 to 50, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion swarthy, hair brown, moustache light, eyes blue ; dress, navy blue suit, hard hat. He called at a shop purchased a golf stick for 5s. 3d. and on payment, presented a cheque for £ 5 18s. 3d, on the London and Provincial Bank, Ltd., Diss Branch, pay- able to Capt. C. E. B. Clarke, signed E. B. Slade, and received the balance. A person answering description of above obtained two blink cheques at Shalfanger, stating he was travelling for a Norwich firm to purchase wood, the second cheque was cashed at Petersfield about 3rd inst., and has been returned from the Diss Branch of the Bank, marked " no account." He was Canteen manager at the camp of the 3rd Northumberland Fusiliers ; suppo.- ed a native of Man- chester. Absconded 5th inst. Warrant issued. A furniture dealer; native of Newcastle, Staffs. Warrant issued. 83.— Longton ( County). - For cruelty to a pony, 11th May, 1908.- EDWARD DAVID MILLINGTON, age 59, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair sandy, eyes brown, blue scar across bridge of nose, supposed a cripple on one side ; dress, brown suit, dark cap, lace boots. A pot hawker or miner; native of Chesterton. A native of Derby. Sentenced at Stafford Sessions, 2nd January, 1906, to 8 years penal servitude for counting- housebreak- ing. Licensed 25th May last, g 1. To be dealt with where found. SUFFOLK ( West). 36.— Hadleigh ( County).— For failing to re- port, and stealing, 4th inst., a lady's " Stanley " bicycle, nearly new, 24 in. frame, inverted lever brakes, Openshaw tyres, Arab saddle, free wheel, Lucas No 10 front carrier— Licence- holder ALFRED FARRAR, alias WILSON, Office No. 127- 04, age 25, height 5 ft. 6J in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes dark blue, several moles on face, scar over and between, each eye- brow, deformed chest ; dress, light jacket suit, red over check, cap, brown boots. A native of London. Sentenced at Ipswich Quarter Sessions, 20th October, 1905, to 3 vears penal servitude for burglary. Licensed 18th ult. f 431. Warrant issued. Chertsey ( County). — For stealing 2 maidenhair ferns ; 1 aspadestra ; 2 pelargoniums; 1 pot geranium cuttings, at Windlesham, 7tli inst.— TWO MEN ( lst, age 45, height 5 ft. 4 in., clean shaved ; dress, old suit, black cap with shiny peak, apron rolled up 2nd, age 35, height 5 ft 6 in., moustache dark ; old suit, cap, white apron, rolled up). Scissors grinders ; each carried a carpenter's basket. Warrant issued. 38.— Chertsey ( County).— For deserting her children, leaving them chargeable to the Chertsey Union— MART CARRUTIIERS, age 31, height about 5 ft., stout build, hair brown, eyes grey, suffers from chronic asthma. A laundress; native of Sun- derland. Usually wears a regimental brooch, " Austria " thereon. Absconded 30th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hackman, Chertsey. SUSSEX ( East). 39.— Brighton ( Borough).— For stealing, 26th inst., £ 12 i Us.— CHRISTOPHER CHAi. LES HART, age 37, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, hair and moustache light brown; drees, light grey morning coat, brown vest and trousers, check cap, luce boots. For the last 2 years he has been employed in a laundry ; a native of Brighton. Warrant issued. Informition to the Chief Constable, Brighton. WARWICKSHIRE. 40.— Longford ( County).— For embezzling £ 54 4s. 2d., at Bedworth, 20th ult.— GEORGE TAYLOR, age 56, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, moustache light; wearing dark clothes. A native of Stirchley near Birmingham, — JANE ELIZABETH SMITH age 16 height 5 ft. 2 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair ( cut short) brown, eyes grey. A native of Kilburn, London. WESTMORLAND. 42.-- Kendal ( County) — For stealing fiom his lodgings, 26th or 27th ult.', a lady's gold watch, gold dial, black pointers, Rhodes, Kendal, maker; 1 lady's Morocco leather dressing case, containing a mirror, hair, and clothes brushes, comb and tooth brush— PAUL DELAPORTE, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 8 in., stout build, complexion fresh, round face, hair and moustache ( curled at ends) black, eyes grey; dress, dark blue serge jacket suit, white straw hat, black band, light lace boots, wearing a gold colour watch chain and nin ( white stone in centre).
