All communications for insertion in the POMCE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to tliem, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTF,, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. T>. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. livery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in farce against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. srs. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed bu an office » of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically anamjed by counties. 9. The force ichich causes particulars concerning delinquent* or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11 Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received iiot later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only: they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13 The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. UNDER the existing arrangements the finger Impressions will be taken, and recorded at the Finger Print Department, Convict Supervision Office, New Scotland Yard, of all persons convicted as follows: — ( à) All persons coming within Section 5, 7, or 8 of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871. ( á) All persons, at Assizes or Quarter Sessions, sentenced to not less than one month's im- prisonment, without option of a fine, for any of the offences shown below. { f) All persons, at Petty Sessional, Police, or Stipendiary Magistrate's Court, sentenced to more than one month's imprisonment, with out option of a fine, for any of the following offences: — Aliens ( Sec. 3 Aliens' Act of 1905). In order to avoid the retention of useless records in the Finger Print Department, the Registrar of Habitual Criminals would be glad if the Chief Constables of Counties, Cities, and Boroughs, will, in future, notify the death of any criminal who has been finger- printed. He came to Reading in January last and advertised in Provincial newspapers, " Eclipse Magical Healer" for animals; also stated he re- cently came from Canada. Warrant issued. A ladies' tailor; lately in business at Richmond. Last heard of at East- bourne, where he was destitute. He was a member of the R. A. O. B., and is likely to visit Lodges. Warrant issued. BRECONSHIRE. 9.— Brynmawr ( County)— For absconding from Llajigattock Workhouse, and stealing a navy blue serge jacket and vest, dark cord trousers, grey Welsh flannel shirt, grey woollen stockings, light lace boots ( some or all stamped " Crickhowell Union")— TIMOTHY McCARTHY, age about 40, height 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion and hair dark, moustache dark brown, may have a beard about 4 weeks' growth; wearing the stolen clothing. A tramping labourer, sometimes em- ployed on farms; native of Brypmawr. Has been in the Army, frequents common lodging houses. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Brynmawr. BUCK INC HA MS HIRE. 10. — Aylesbury ( County).— For obtaining a bicycle by false pretences— -— HOBSON, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, red cheeks, hair ( bald on crown) light brown, mous- tache sandy, very talkative, walks erect; dress, grey mixture suit, light cap, small tie, lace boots. A stonemason. He travels the countrv, obtains work for a few days, commits larcenies, and decamps. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Aylesbury. C." — A MAN, age about 25, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, clean shaved; dress, dark brown jacket suit, cap, tan colour boots. A Welshman. Warrant issued. Macclesfield ( Borough).— For obtain- ing food and lodgings by false pretences— NOR- MAN —, age 21 to 23, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., slight build, complexion red ( scurvy, as if sun- burnt), long features, hair light brown, teeth decayed, mole or few hairs on nose, boil mark left of neck; dress, brownish jacket suit, with faint green and purple stripes, darkish brown peak cap, white celluloid collar, rather large tie ( supposed dark blue), brown boots ( blacked ov § r). Stated he was employed at a cycle works. Had in his possession a motor licence in name of Jacob Howarth, Sheffield City crest thereon, endorsed " fined 2s. 6d. and costs or 7 days for driving furiously." He isi suspected of stealing a club " Swift " bicycle, black enamelled, Dunlop tyres, straight handle bars, cork grips ( piece of right one broken), rim brakes, rubber pedals, black metal mudguards ( back one slightly bent), square nut centre of handle bars, on brake, scratch near back valve, Brooks' saddle, brown mackintosh cape at tached, black gear case. DENBIGHSHIRE. 13.— Wrexham ( County). — For embezzling 9s. 3d., on 17th March and other dates— CHARLES JONES, age 23 or 24, height about 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes hazel; dress, blue serge suit, square cut jacket, light cap. lace boots. May seek employment as a vanman or carter. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Consitable, Wrexham. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 16.— Bristol ( City).— For stealing from his lodgings, 1st inst., a silver English lever watch, white dial; 1 lady's silver lever watch, flowered face; 1 do., gold English lever, maker " Sutton" on inside case; 2 round gold studs, set 8 pearls, ruby in centre; 1 massive gold albert, long links, 3 photograph pendants attached ( large one in centre, small one each end of chain); 1 gold albert, small links, small whistle attached; 1 long plain gold guard; 1 lady's gold half mourning ring, set 3 pearls, " F. Lawrence, 10th May, ' 67" thereon; 1 lady's 9 ct. gold dress cluster ring, pearl in centre, surrounded by emeralds; 1 massive gold carbuncle ring, set oval stone; 1 pair diamond ear- rings, set in gold; 1 tortoise- shell cigar case, silver plate with " F. A labourer; has served in the Army. HER TFORDSHIRE. 19.— Hitchin ( County).— For indecent assault on a female at Watton, 24th ult.— THOMAS HOWARD, alias KEFFORD, age about 22, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair and slight moustache light brown, eyes grey; dress, green jacket and vest, flap pockets, tight fitting, dark grey trousers, stitching round bottoms, coloured neckerchief, green cap, brown boots. A native of Tottenham, Middlesex. Recently employed by a horse slaughterer, and will probably seek employ- ment with horse dealers or van dwellers. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Maidstone. LANARKSHIRE. 21.— Glasgow ( City).— For failing to report— TTIOMAS GILMOUR, alias JAMES SMITH, S. C. R., No. 257- 98, age 35, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, left middle finger bent inwards from second joint, result of a fracture, hairy naevus left cheek, cut soar right temple, 2 in. scar left of navel, brown nasvus li in. above upper border right knee- cap, & c. A native of Glasgow. Sentenced to 5 years penal servitude at Glasgow, 9th May, 1904, for larceny ( person), Liberated on lioence, 22nd February, 1908, which expires 9th May, 1909, and has two previous sentences of penal servitude; also a conviction for frequenting at Liverpool, 15th September, 1894. LANCASHIRE. 22.— Charley ( County).— For stealing, 26th ult., a " Rudge- Whitworth" bicycle, " No. 297149" stamped on top front fork, black en- amelled, 28 in. wheels, 24 in. frame, " Rudge- Whitworth " handle bars and tyres ( back well worn, front good condition), black celluloid handle grips, inverted brakes, black celluloid pump, tool bag, large saddle, in good condition— A MAN, age about 21 ( looks older), height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, soar centre of forehead, mole right side of head, right breast, scar left elbow and thumb, several front upper teeth missing; dress, dark brown suit, dark mixture cap, light brown boots ( all new). Con- victed at Fleetwood, 26th September, 1904, for stealing opera glasses and watch and chain, to 2 months, concurrent; Preston Sessions, for stealing a bicycle, 3 months; Manchester, for stealing harness, 15 months. Whittaker, Chorley. 23.— Manchester ( City).— For forging a cheque for £ 54 19s. 6d.— ALFRED GROGAN, age 44, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion sallow, long face, hair ( short) and eyes dark, heavy moustache dark brown, prominent chin, ears slightly pro- ject, walks badly, turns his feet outward, hesitates when speaking; dress, brown jacket suit, black bowler hat, lace boots. Was last heard of at Glas- gow about 6 weeks ago. For several years he was engaged as an estate agent, also acted as secretary to a Building Society. Absconded 17th April last. Warrant issued. LEICES TERSHIRE. 24.— Leicester ( Borough).— For housebreak- ing, 27th ult.— A MAN, age 27, height 5 ft. 3 in., stiff build, complexion ( sallow) dark, hair inclined to be curly, clean shaved; dress, dark clothes, striped trousens, brown boots ( blacked over). Information to the Head Constable, Leicester. LINCOLNSHIRE. 25.— Grimsby ( Borough).— For stealing, 25th ult., 6 nickel silver tea spoons, marked " J. G. G. 5/ N. S./," chased upper portion of handles; 2 salt spoops, mustard spoon, sugar tongs, soft sugar spoon, all marked as above; 1 pickle fork with ivory handle; and 9s. 9d.— ROBERT GEEVES, age 22, height 5 ft. 11 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair light, clean shaved, high cheek bones; dress, black jacket, military trousers, check cap, white muffler, brown boots. Has served in the 2nd Lincolnshire Regiment, which he left about 6 months ago, since when he has been employed sell- ing milk. Warrant issued. 26.— Grimsby ( Borough).— For failing to re- port— Licence- holder JOHN RICHARDSON, Office No. 663- 05, age 49, height 5 ft. 4 in., com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, scar left of mouth, mouth drawn to left, pug nose. A collier; native of Swindon. Sen- tenced at Hereford County Sessions, 24th June, 1907, to 12 months hard labour and 7 years super- vision for larceny. Liberated 24th " April last. 4267.
