All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should he addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by ' Mother force. ' J. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. f>. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. ATIONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank tliun Inspector or analogous thereto. S. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear u number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the. insertion of any announce ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11 Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only: they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, ~ Sew Scotland Yard by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13 The Space being limited, announcements concerning " ^[ issing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. A ship's mate; native of Banff. He has served on several vessels, trad- ing between Ardrossan and the Mediterranean, from March, 1906, to March, 1908. Warrant issued. Both carried a fawn coloured mackintosh and walking stick. Appearance of theatricals; spoke with Midland accent. They took lodgings at Newcastle, 2nd inst., gave the name of Redfern, and stated that they had come from Sheffield. Information to the Chief Constable, Gateshead. Lennon, Witham. 14.— Colchester ( Borough).— For stealing a quantity of machinery and plant— GEORGE EVER1TT, age 37, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, freckled face, hair brown, eyes blue, addicted to drink. A general dealer ; native of Colchester. May be found at low public houses. He disposed of the property to a marine store dealer. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Colchester. GLA MORGA NSHIRE. 15. — Cardiff ( City). — For stealing ( bailee), clothing.— JOHN STEPHEN DAVIES, age 26, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion dark, clean shaved, stutters badly ; dress, dark suit, light cap. A collier. Warrant issued. 16.— Cardiff ( City).— For stealing a bicycle ( recovered)— WILLIAM JOiNES, anas UAR- LAND, age 24, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, clean shaved, stutters ; dress, blue serge suit, muffler, light cap. Stays at common lodging houses. Absconded Gth ult. He endeavoured to enlist at Newport 13th ult., had with him a bicycle ( supposed stolen). Warrant issued. 17.— Cardiff ( City).— For obtaining food by false pretences— — MURRAY.( suppostd Scotch- man), age about 40, height 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache brown, one upper tooth missing ; dress, brown speckled suit, hard bowler hat. A fitter ; stated he was employed at the electric power station. Warrant issued. 18.— Cardiff ( City).— For fraudulent bank- ruptcy— ARTHUR JOSEPH COOMER, age about 36, height 5 ft. 5 in., stout build, com- plexion fresh, full lace, hair light brown, clean shaved, high forehead, large eyes ; dress grey suit, paak cap. A fruit salesman and commission agent. Warrant issued. 19.— Cardiff ( City).— For housebreaking and stealing, 10th or 11th inst., a phonograph and reoords ( recovered); 1 light green and grey mixture overcoat, cuffs on sleeves, outside pockets; 1 brown mixture jacket, usual pockets, nearly new, both single- breasted— ALFRED TUCKER, age 24, height 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, complexion fresh, long full face, hair light, clean shaved, North Country accent, tattooed both arms ( including bust of Queen Victoria); dress, blue jersey, rough blue serge trousers1, light cap, blucher boots, may be wearing the stolen overcoat and jacket. A seaman or fireman; native of York. Warrant issued. 20.— Cardiff ( City).— For stealing a quantity of tea. and cocoa.— MARGARET BARNES, alias BURNS, age about 45, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight build, complexion fair, long face, hair light brown, eyes grey, nose inclined to be red, walks quickly ( very short steps); dress, black skirt and jacket, old black hat, usually carries a square black bag, which contains samples of tea and cocoa. A canvasser. She left here, 11th inst., and on the following day she was at Aberaman, where she is believed to be well known, also well known in the Swansea, Valley. Supposed accompanied by a Man, who is convassing the Aberdare District for orders for photograph enlargements. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Cardiff. GLOUCES TERSHIRE. 21— Cheltenham ( County).— For stealing £ 14, 17th inst.— ELIZA HARRISON, age about 40, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion fair, full face, hair ( wavy) light, eyes blue, addicted to drink; dress, grey coat, black skirt, red under- skirt, black hat with grey trimmings, soft boots with patent leather toe caps. She tramps the country ajid usually stays at casual wards. Called upon a person who was formerly an official at the Union, and when left alone stole the above amount and decamped. Warrant issued. HAMPSHIRE. 22 — Alton ( County).— For stealing £ 1 5s., 8th inst., at Bordon Camp— A YOUTH, age 17, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion pale, hair dark; dress, dark tweed Norfolk jacket, dark tweed cycling knickers, fancy vest, red spots, lined red, dark stockings, red band round tops, blue cap, brown lace shoes. A newsboy ; native of London. In possession of a " New Hudson " bicycle, 24 in. frame, 26 in. wheels, black enamelled, usual parts plated, wide dropped handle bars, 2 inverted lever brakes, celluloid mud guard s ( hole in back about size of an egg), Lucas oil lamp attached. Reuben, Alton. ii3.— Andover ( Countij).— For obtaining £ 4 by false pretences, 4th inst.— GEORGE COLEMAN, alku MILLER, age 45, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, full face, hair and moustache dark; dress, blue serge suit, grey cap, brown boots. An associate of horse thieves. He left at Wallop, 4th inst., a dark brown horse, aged, 15 hands 2 ins., star on forehead ; a large high waggonette, recently painted, body black, yellow panels, wheels and shafts picked out black ( originally black and chocolate); and a set of black leather brass- mounted harness. Bowles, Andover. 24. — Petersfield ( County).— For stealing, between 27th and 30th ult., at Greatham, a watch and chain ( recovered); 1 imitation gold necklace, about 18 in. long; 2 fourpenny pieces ; 1 three- penny do.; I small silver pencil case, and a small silver locket— ALFRED MILES, age 39, height 5 ft. 9J in., complexion fresh, hair ( turn- ing grey) black, eyes brown, woman, man's face, and other tattoo marks right forearm, 2 blue dots right wrist and back of right hand, anchor left forearm, blue dot left wrist, cut mark left eye, varicose veins both legs ; dress, heavy reefer jacket, light colour, white cord trousers, light cap, heavy boots. A tramping labourer ; some- times hawks ferns and watercress. Has been previously convicted of larceny. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Waters, Petersfield. HER TFORDSHIRE. 25.— Hatfield ( County).— For foiging a Mort- gage Deed for £ 3,500, at North Mymms— SIDNEY BROUGHTON POPE, age 36, height 5 ft. 8 in., thick set, complexion! darl? sla'llow, hair black, bald patch top of head, clean shaved, high fore- head, thick lips; dress, dark grey mixture tweed suit, light grey overcoat and cap, brown boots, underclothing marked " S. Reynolds, Hatfield. 26. — Hertford ( County). — For failing to appear to his recognizances at Hertford Quarter Sessions, 6th ult., on a charge of indecent assault — GEORGE DUNCAN SIMPKINS, age 17, height 5 ft. 2k in., complexion fresb, hair brown, eyes blue. Birthmark top of left breast. A native of Hertford. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Foster, Hertford. 27.— Watford ( County).— For embezzlement— JAMES BOND, alias LOGAN and WARD, age 50, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache and whiskers ginger, eyes grey; dress, brown check tweed suit, buttons to pockets, may be wearing black frock coat.
