A All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OP THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all eases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, xcill be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed hu the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. TXOHTS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received iiot later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only: they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, ~ Sew Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by rost Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13 The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. THE EDITOR requests that Chief Officers of Police, when forwarding for identification by the Metropolitan Police the Photographs and descrip- tive forms of Persons in custody, will please see that the specific offence is stated, e. g. :— Stealing £ 1,000 from bank ; stealing pair of boots from shop door ; stealing bale of silk, van unattended, & c., & c. Warrant withdrawn. He was sentenced 13th ult. at Cambridge to 7 months imprisonment, in name of William Loveday for obtaining two horses by false pretences. Information to Supt. Harden, Brentwood. 10.— Witham ( County)— For stealing, 6th inst., at Great Totham, an old " Kudge- Whitworth" bicycle, front brake, black celluloid mudguards, rubber pedals, black enamelled, and £ 8— JAMES DANIEL HUNT, alias JAMES FARRAND, age 21, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, clean shaved, eyes grey, of smart appearance; dress, light grey check jacket, troi aers and cap, white sweater, may be wearing brown boots blacked over. Supposed a native of Adderbury, Banbury. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lennon, Witham. 11.— Colchester ( Borough).— For stealing a quantity of machinery and plant— GEORGE EVER1TT, age 37, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, freckled face, hair brown, eyes blue, addicted to drink. A general dealer ; native of Colchester. May be found at low public houses. He disposed of the property to a marine store dealer. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Colchester. GLA MORGA NSH1RE. 12. — Cardiff ( City). — For stealing ( bailee), clothing.— JOHN STEPHEN DAVIES, age 26, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion dark, clean shaved, stutters badly; dress, dark suit, light cap. A collier. Warrant issued. 13.— Cardiff ( City).— For stealing a bicycle ( recovered)— WILLIAM JONES, axas GAR- LAND, age 24, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, clean shaved, stutters ; dress, blue serge suit, muffler, light cap. Stays at common lodging houses. Absconded Gth ult. He endeavoured to enlist at Newport 13th ult., had with him a bicycle ( supposed stolen). Warrant issued. 14.— Cardiff ( City).— For obtaining food by false pretences— — MQRRAY ( supposed Scotch- man), age about 40, height 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair and mousache brown, one upper tooth missing; dress, brown speckled suit, hard bowler hat. A fitter ; stated he was employed at the electric power station. Warrant issued. 15.— Cardiff ( City).— For indecent assault— EDWARD EVANS, age 45, height 5 ft, 8 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, prominent noee, flat at end, dots tattooed inside left forearm ; dress, pepper and salt colour coat and vest, light cord trousers, light cap, strong nailed boots. A labourer. Absconded 17th March last. Warrant issued. 16.— Cardiff ( City).— For fraudulent bank- ruptcy— ARTHUR JOSEPH COOMER, age about 36, height 5 ft. 5 in., stout build, com- plexion fresh, full lace, hair light brown, clean shaved, high forehead, large eyes ; dress grey suit, paak cap. A fruit salesman and commission agent. Warrant issued. Information to the Acting Chief Constable, Cardiff. HAMPSHIRE. 17.— Aldershot ( County).— For stealing, 7th inst., a light, tweed suit and cap, and about £ 4 14s.— ALFRED BOLTON, an absentee from the lst Battn. East Kent Regiment, age 25, height 5 ft. 3£ in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, ballet girl, piijse tighter left forearm, flowers, clasped hands, heart, bird, etc., right forearm, butterfly, back right hand ; probably wearing the stolen clothing. A native of Lewisham, Kent. Information to Snpt, Hawkins, Aldershot. 18.— Alton ( County).— For stealing £ 1 5s., 8th inst., at Bordon Camp— A YOUTH, age 17, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion pale, hair dark; dress, dark tweed Norfolk jacket, dark tweed cycling knickers, fancy vest, red spots, lined red, dark stockings, red band round tops, blue cap, brown lace shoes. A newsboy ; native of London. In possession of a " New Hudson " bicycle, 24 in. frame, 26 in. wheels, black enamelled, usual parts plated, wide dropped handle bars, 2 inverted lever brakes, celluloid mud guards ( hole in back about size of an egg), Lucas oil lamp attached. Reuben, Alton. 19. — Petersfield ( County).— For stealing, between 27th and 30th ult., at Greathatn, a watch and chain ( recovered) ; 1 imitation gold necklace, about 18 iu. long; 2 fourpenny pieces ; 1 three- penny do. ; I small silver pencil case, and a small silver locket— ALFRED MILES, age 39, height 5 ft. 9£ in., complexion fresh, hair ( turn- ing grey) black, eyes brown, woman, man's face, and other tattoo marks right forearm, 2 blue dots right wrist and back of right hand, anchor left forearm, blue dot left wrist, cut mark left eye, varicose veins both legs ; dress, heavy reefer jacket, light colour, white cord trousers, light cap, heavy boots. A tramping labourer ; some- times hawki ferns and watercress. Has been previously convicted of larceny. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Waters, Petersfield. 20.— Southampton ( Borough).— For obtain- ing 3 bottles spirits; and £ 9 6s. 6d., by a worth- less cheque, No. A 279647, dated 23rd April, on the Wilts and Dorset Bank, Lansdowne, Bourne- mouth Branch, drawn by Arthur Jameson, pay- able to self— AUGUSTUS GODDARD, age about 25, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fair, hair and slight moustache light; dress, green vest with black buttons, green beads thereon, green breeches, greenish cap, brown leggings and boots. A wine merchant's clerk. Warrant issued. LANCASHIRE. 24. — Accrington ( Borough).— For stealing, 4th inst., a black mackintosh, nearly new— FRED CHETHAM, alias WM. MORRIS and SIMMS, age 28, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., hair, moustache ( slight), and eyes dark ; dress, dark Scotch tweed suit, light cap, button boots. A native of St. Helens. A well- known thief, and wanted at Leeds for stealing a bicycle, and other places for similar offences. 25.— Accrington ( Borough).— For stealing ( bailee) a pair of tailor's shears about the beginning of March last.— WILLIAM BOGLE, alias SINCLAIR and BOYLE, age 66, height 5 ft. 4| in , complexion fresh, bald top of head, eyes blue. A tramping scissors grinder or tailor, generally accompanied by his wife, both addicted to drink. He was sentenced to 1 month imprisonment 12th May, 1905. for larceny, at Newport, Mon., as William Sinclair, and ordered to pay costs 9th November, 1907, for larceny at Bury, Lanes., as William Boyle. Information to the Chief Constable, Accrington. 26— Barrow- in- Furness ( Borough).— For failing to report— Licence- holder FRANK ARMSTRONG, alias JOHN WILLIAMS, Office No. 884- 05, age 34, height 5 ft. 5f in., complexion fresh, hair black ( turning grey), eyes brown, scar right eyebrow, mole left ear, tip lst right finger crushed. A native of Nottingham. Sentenced at Derby Assizes, 2nd December, 1905, to 3 years penal servitude for arson ( stack). Licensed 4th March last, f 526. To be dealt with where found. Information to the Chief Constable, Barrow- in- Furness. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 27.— Abergavenny ( County).— For stealing ( bailee), 16th inst., a " Centaur" bicycle, 25 or 26 in. frame, gold lined, free wheel, 2 inverted brakes, roller pattern, flat handle bar, tips missing, nearly Dew— J. LEWIS THOMAS, age 21, height about 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, hair black ( curly) ; dress, blue suit with stripe, boots ( box cloth tops). An outfitter's assistant; native of Carmarthen. He is an expert bicycle rider, and is said to be well known in Wales. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Supt. Davies, Abergavenny. NORFOLK. 28. — Great Yarmouth ( Borough). — On commitment warrants for non- payment of £ 1317s. each, fine and costs imposed for selling adulterated butter— CHARLES BOWMAN, age 31 to 34, height 5 ft 4 or 5 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache ( small) dark, of good address ; dress, dark jacket suit and overcoat, hard felt hat or check cap.— FREDERICK FRENCH, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft, 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair ( clipped short) and moustache ( small) light, of good address ; dress, mixture jacket suit, grey overcoat, hard felt hat or cap. These men, for the past nine months, have been buying margarine at local shops, adding a little colouring matter, making it into neat pats, and hawking it from door to door as pure country butter. Information to the Chief Constable, Great Yar- mouth. NOR THA MPTONSHIRE. 29 — Northampton ( Borough).— For obtain- ing £ 3 5s. 2d. by false pretences, 11th ult, ( fictitious cheque)— R. HARftlS, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion and hair dark, wearing a grey overcoat, black hard hat. He took lodgings at a temperance hotel 10th ult., stating he repre- sented the firm of Betts Brothers, of Birming- ham, and presented one of their business cards. On 11th ult. he presented a cheque on Lloyd's Bank, Ltd., Gooch Street, Birmingham, purporting to be signed by H. Betts, payable to K. Harris for £ 4, to pay his account, and received £ 3 5s. 2d. balance. The cheque, No. 50- 206998, is one taken from a book of 30, stolen 20th February last. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, North- ampton. SHROPSHIRE. 30.— Whitchurch ( County).- - For stealing ( bailee) a " Kynoch" bicycle,' 24 in. frame, enamelled black, Rudge- Whitworth handle bars, 28 in. wheels, plated rims, Eadie back- pedalling brake, front rim do., rat- trap pedals, mudguard, Transfer on head, " G. H. Tupling, Whitchurch." — FRANK LANCEBY, alias HENNESSEY and ERNEST GOLDING, age about 35, height 5 ft. 5 iu., complexion fresh, hair light brown, cleau shaved, eyes supposed grey, rather large head, leans forward when walking; dress, dark grey jacket, blue and white fancy vest, dark trousers, light tweed cap, light brown boots, may be carrying a f- length dark grey overcoat. Stated he was a natiye of London and served in the Royal Army Medical Corps. Has been employed at hotel stables for the last 6 months; may be found in similar employment. Warrant issued. SOMERSETSHIRE. 31-— Bath ( City).— For obtaining food and money by false pretences, 4th inst. — ANNIE LEWIS ( supposed false), age about 28, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion pale, hair black, eyes dark, good teeth; dress, long three- quarter length black jacket, navy blue skirt, white blouse, blue stripe, black hat, black and white tips, brown fur, lace boots. She took lodgings, stating she had just arrived from Lancashire, and was going into service as a cook at a hotel. May be found in low dass districts or in company of prostitutes. Warrant issued.
