Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted J? I one issue of the. POLICE GAZETTE, if, they are sufficient to enable action to br taken upon them by • mother force. Particulars us to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large, or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s to 10s. .1 remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if I, tin name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant ts in force against him, llie reauisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or Ins immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the casi may be.. OHTS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property beur a number, mid as fat as practicable they are alphabetically arrarv/ ed by counties. • ' - 9. The force which causes particulars concerniny delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once, transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11 Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only: they must be in the usual form, and accompanied bu a covering letter 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13 The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. SPECIAL NOTICE. FUGITIVE OFFENDERS. A case has come under the notice of the Editor, ia which a person whose apprehension was sought i I England, and who was described in the POLICE GAZETTE, gave himself up to the Colonial Police. The prosecutor declined to take any further action in the matter, but the case necessitated the dispatch of two telegrams, the cost of which had to be refunded by him. To avoid such expense, the Editor requests that if there is reason to believe that a fugitive offender is likely to go to the Colonies, and the prosecutor is unwilling to incur any expense with a view to obtain his surrender, a notification be made in the communication sent to this Office to the effect that the offender is not to be arrested beyond the United Kingdom. The necessity for the adoption of such a course will be apparent from the fact that the POLICE j GAZETTE is circulated in the Colonies. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. A native of Esher. May be found employed as a chauffeur. Warrant issued. 4.— C Division.— For obtaining cigarettes. & c., by false pretences— JOHN EDWARDS, alias DAVIS and GALINSKY, a Jew, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion and eyes dark, hair and heavy moustache black, high cheek bones; wearing frock coat, silk hat.— JOHN WALKER, alias HARLEY and ROSENBURG, a Jew, age 40, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion sallow, full face, hair and moustache black, eyes brown, slightly bow- legged; dress, blue serge suit, black felt hat. — J. COLLINS, alias PHILLIPS and BURNS, a Jew, age 30, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion and hair dark, clean shaved; dress, dark jacket suit, black bowler hat. They have been carrying on bogus businesses as J. Walker & Co., Woollen Mer- chants, 39 Great Pulteney Street, W.; W. Harley & Co., 21 Harp Lane, E. C.; Harris and Saunders, 13 Little Britain, E. C.; and C. & L. Peek & Co., 73 Aldermanbury, E. C., and other addresses, and have obtained large quantities of goods by fraud. Warrants issued. 5.— D Division.— For stealing ( servant) £ 10. 13th ult.— DOUGLAS GEORGE THOMPSON, age 30, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes blue, " Douglas" left forearm; dress, dark blue jacket suit, dark cap. A native of the Isle of Man. Is a Reservist of the lst East Kent Regiment. Warrant issued. 6.— P Division.— For obtaining £ 1 bv fraud 15th ult. MAJOR, age 30 ( looks older); height 5 ft. 4i in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes brown, two front upper teeth deficient; dress, drab colour dust coat, dark grey trousers and cap. A coachman. He obtained the above amount by a letter recommending him for assistance. A bricklaver; native of Penn, Bucks. He tramps Buckingham- shire, Hertfordshire, and Berkshire, collecting rags and bones, stays at common lodging houses. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. CUMBERLAND. 15.— Penrith ( County).— Fpr burglary, I4tli ult., and stealing a lady's gold watch, gold face, engraved back, long gold guard attached, 1 lady's gold curb bracelet HALEY, age about 30, Height 5 ft. 10 in., good build, complexion fresh, hair ( short at back) light, Scotch accent; dress, brownish jacket ( appears too small), light cord trousers ( worn at bottom), grey cap, strong lace boots. A navvy, follows public works. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Barron, Penrith. DENBIGHSHIRE. Itf — Abergele ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, 16th ult., a gold oval locket, imita- tion rope band; 1 gold pin, swallow with wings spread, mounted with pearls; 1 silver cigarette case, chased both sides; and £ 12 13s.— HARRY NEWMAN ( supposed false), age about 25, height about 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, complexion fair, oval face, hair light, clean shaved, of good ad- dress, dress, green tinted jacket suit, low cut collar, dark bow tie, white rubber collar, light c& p with large green check, prominent peak. Stated he represented a Lithographic Company, and was to take sketches for picture postcards, also that he had travelled abroad and belonged to London. He left behind a nearly new " Singer" bicycle, since identified as having been stolen at Llandudno. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. For failing to re- port— Licence- holder JOHN PARRY, alias PERCY, PERRY, JOHNSON, and O'FLANNA- GAN, Office No. 2020- 98, age 44, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, blue scar under right eyebrow, scar left of head and back of hand, scar bridge of nose. A bricklayer; native of Penycae. Sentenced to 3 years penal servitude, 20th October, 1905, at Wrexham Quarter Sessions, for burglary. Licensed lst , February, 1908. K P c f 638. Exeter ( City). - For obtaining, by fraud, a sewing machine; 2 night shirts; 2 flannel shirts, " Pinder & Tuckwell, Exeter," on tabs; 6 silk handkerchiefs ( different colours) ; . 3 ties; several pairs of cuffs— A MAN, who gave the names of CYRIL F. C. BRODIE and EDWARD J. BROWNING, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion pale, moustache ( small) dark brown; dress, green rainproof coat, Alpine hat, red tie, may be wearing a black bowler hat, respect- able appearance. He obtained a " Pfaff " sewing machine, value £ 3 15s., and tendered a cheque on the Bank of New South Wales, London Branch, No. E 5 82754 or .15 10s.. drawn bv Victor Evrard & Co., in favour of Cyril F. C. Brodie, Esq., and received the balance. He also tendered another tradesman a cheque on the same bank for £ 6. drawn by A. E. Sanders, in favour of Edward J. Browning, Esq., and received the balance in money. In each case he asked for the goods to be sent to the railway station. Also wanted at Salis- bury and Tiverton for similar offences. Warrant issued. FIFESHIRE. 19.— Cupar ( County).— For embezzling £ 155 19s.— JOSEPH THOMSON, age 37, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light, may be clean shaved, stoops slightly when walking, addicted to drink; dress, blue serge suit, dark blue overcoat. A traveller to a seed and grain merchants at Dunfermline, prior to which he was employed by firms at Leith and Glasgow. Ab- sconded 25th February. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Cupar. GL OUCES TERSHIRE. 20. Bristol ( City).— For stealing, 23rd ult., from his lodgings, 2 silver watches and chains— JOHN SMITH, alias GREENWOOD, BULLOCK, and HARRISON, age 24, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair dark, clean shaved, prominent nose, thick upper lip, Yorkshire accent; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, dark grey trousers, brown cap, carried a greenish fawn coloured waterproof coat. Stated he was a native of Bradford, Yorks. He represents himself as a motor car driver in the employ of a commercial traveller, who has just arrived from Yorkshire, and obtains lodgings through advertisements or " Apart- ments to let " boards exhibited in windows. Has been convicted at Grantham, Peterborough, Cam- bridge, and Sheffield. ( Is identical with Manj Case No. 25, 27th ult.). Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. HAMPSHIRE. 21.— Aldershot ( County).— For stealing £ 5 I 16s. 2d., 30th ult.— JOHN ASHW7ORTH, age 25, height 5 ft. 4£ in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, dot left forearm. A native of Black- burn. Is a deserter from the Army Service Corps, probably wearing plain clothes. 22. Alilershot ( County).— Foy obtaining £ 3 by a worthless cheque, drlawn on the City Bank, Ltd., Holborn Branch, London, 13th ult. — CHARLES EVERETT, age about 43, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fair, full round face, hair light brown, moustache light, eyes blue, thick lips, supposed bad front teeth, London accent; dress, navy blue suit, dark blue overcoat with velvet collar, black hard felt hat. A practical oven builder. Had in his possession a cheque book, issued in 1894, which is now obsolete. He spoke a good deal of Worthing. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. IMESON, ul, as HOLLiNGSWORTH and MORRIS, age 50 ( looks younger), height 6 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair aark Drown, short moustache stubby, eyes grey, crooked nose, appearance of having been broken, walks quickly; dress, new tweed suit, hard hat. He opens premises and obtains large quantities of goods and disposes of same under cost price, is accompanied by his Wife, Daugnter, and 2 Sons ( one of the latter represents himself to be a chemist). Styles, Tonbridge. 29.— Uravesend ( Borough).— For non- pay- ment of £ 3 5s. 6d., maintenance arrears— THOMAS POVEY, age 45, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion sallow, hair grev, moustache ( slight) turning grey; dress, dark brown overcoat, cord trousers, cap, white muffler. May be found on a barge or working at cement works. Well known at Chatham and Dartford. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Gravesend. LANCASHIRE. 30. Bury ( County).— For stealing. 20tli ult., a lady's three- quarter length black coat, black braid on collar and cuffs; 1 long white fur, lined white satin; 1 white silk blouse; 1 black do.; 1 pair long white woollen gloves; 1 lady's umbrella, imitation gold mounted; 1 lady's long gold chain, - mall link pattern, George sovereign, glass seal with silver ring, and a ljd. piece, attached; 1 black purse, " M " on outside, containing £ 1, and a small twisted steel button hook-— A MAN, age about 36, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., hair light, mous- tache ( turned up at ends) sandy; dress, blue ooat with white stripes, brown trousers and mackin- tosh, light fawn colour cap, rubber collar, blucher boots, had a large portmanteau.— A WOMAN, ; ige about 34, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion pale, hair dark, supposed blind left eye, of good address; dress, dark blue costume, hat trimmed blue and white ribbon, button boots. Photograph of woman can be seen on application. 31. — Bury ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, 23rd ult., a pair of brown lace boots, size 7 or 8; 1 blue Melton overcoat, velvet collar, black bone buttons, lined black, blue, and green mixture— A MAN, age about 22, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., very slight build, hair light, small lump over left eyebrow, rash on lower part of face; dress, black jacket, brown and blue fancy vest, laces up at back, black trousers. MIDLOTHIAN. 32.— Edinburgh ( City).— For obtaining boar< l and lodgings by fraud, and larceny ( lodgings)— HERBERT BULLOCK, alias GREENWOOD, HARRISON, and SMITH, age 24, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in. t complexion, fresh, hair dark, clean shaved, large prominent nose, thick upper lip, inclined to protrude right side, one left upper tooth missing, Yorkshire accent; dress, navy blue jacket and vest, dark striped trousers, black tie white muffler, grey cap, may be wearing a greenish fawn colour waterproof. He represents himself as a booking clerk, transferred from Bradford, obtains lodgiiigs through advertisements, & c., eventually commits larceny and absconds.
