All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, IMEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted m one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketcn of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's cJiaitye will range from 5s. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost j I engraving sketches. J. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if th< t name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant i « in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 8. 9. 10. 11. 13. 13. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. He called at a stationers, ordered a brief bag and lady's satchel to be sent to the hotel where he was staying, and after he had left the bag was missed. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Runcorn [ County).— For stealing i; l 6s. 2| d., and obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, 26th ult.— Supervisee ALBERT EDWARDS, alias ALBERT BROOKS, ALBERT WALKER, ALBERT PRESBURY, aud CLARKSON, Office No. 1602- 06 ( Case No. 9, 17th January last), age 25, height 5 ft. 3£ in., com- plexion dark, hair and slight moustache dark brown, eyes dark brown; dress, grey cycling suit, dark grey cap, red tie with safety pin, brown leather leggings, brown boots, fawn coloured mackintosh. A native of Birmingham. In posses- sion of a bicycle. Left at his lodgings a new portmanteau containing clothes, & c. Engaged lodgings, 26th ult., stating he had obtained em- ployment at a local stores. Information to Supt. Ennion, Runcorn. DERBYSHIRE. 10. Chesterfield ( Borough).— For stealing £ 2, 18th ult.— ANN ELIZABETH SADLER, age 23, height 5 ft. in., rather stout build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, small brown mole left cheek, eyes slightly crossed. A domestic servant; native of Chesterfield. May be found1 at low boarding houses. Warrant issued. 11 — Chesterfield ( Borough). For stealing, 24th ult., a pair of lace boots, size 7; and a red silk muffler, butterfly pattern— THOMAS EVANS, age 22, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion, hair ( wears a fringe) and eves dark; dress, dark grey suit, greenish cap, and ( supposed) the stolen boots, and muffler. An ironwork labourer; native of Bolsover. Has served in the Army. Attends Salvation Army meetings. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Chester- field^ DURHAM 12." Sunderland ( Borough).- - For obtaining money by false pretences— ABRAHAM CALLAN- DER, age 46, height 5 ft. 6 in., compleixion ruddy, oval face, hair ( slightly bald) and mous- tache dark ( turning grey), rather prominent nose, " A. C." and anchor tattooed on right forearm, cross outside left forearm, scar on outside right forearm; dress, blue jacket suit, grey coat, blue cap, scarlet tie, wore a ring set with brown stone, engraved with Freemasons mark, Freemason's pendant attached to watch chain. A Dutch Jew, speaks with slight foreign accent, sometimes repre- sents himself to be a Scotchman. Appears to have been a Dutch pilot; and native of Amsterdam or Rotterdam. Speaks several languages fluently. Describes himself as a shipping tourist agent, or estate owner in South America. He advertises for a manager for his fruit growing estate in South America, and on obtaining money as security from applicants, absconds. Convicted at West Hartle- pool on 30th June, 1905, and at Chelmsford Assizes, on llth November, 1905, of fraud and forgery, respectively. Is well known at most sea ports in this country and on the Continent, where he is believed to conduct similar frauds, and to bring intended victims to this country on the pre- tence of making them partners in some business of which he represents himself the owner. ( See Case No. 13, 22nd March, 1907.) Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Sunderland. GLAMORGA NSHIRE. 13. Swansea I ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 8 by false pretences— B. MORTIMER, age 50 to 60, height 5 ft. 10 in., good build, very, muscular, complexion dark, hair ( bald on top) grey, moustache dyed dark brown, very talkative, loud voice; dress, black frock coat, light vest, dark grey trousers, silk hat, green scarf fastened through a ring, set stone, figure of a bird thereon, muffler, grey spats, patent leather boots. He takes apartments in a good locality, has a brass plate, " Prof. Mortimer ( M. D., U. S. A.), Medical Specialist," engraved thereon, fixed to front of the premises. Represents himself as a specialist at the local hospital, has bills distributed purporting to cure all diseases, informs intending patients that they suffer with a certain ailment, guarantees to cure them, but will not commence treatment until the fee is paid. Absconded 26th ult. Accom- panied by a Woman ( supposed his wife), age about 28. ( Is identical with Man, Case No. 13, 7th ult.) Warrant issued. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT ( oontinuei)— GL OUCES TERSHIRE. 14 — Cheltenham ( County).— For obtaining 2s. 9d. by false pretences, 28th ult.— GEORGE THOMAS, alias TILTON, DERRANT, and WILSON, age about 50, height 5 ft. 9 in., com- plexion pale, pockmarked, hair brown, moustache ( turning grey) sandy, several upper front teeth missing, eyes hazel, right leg shorter than left, lame, generally carries a stick; wear- ing a long light colour overcoat, red tie, black bowler hat, brown shoes or boots, much worn. He called upon an Insurance agent, insured his children, and left the office, but returned shortly afterwards and informed the agent that he had a good offer to purchase an overcoat, but had not sufficient money by, 2s. 9d., which amount he obtained. In several other instances he called upon shopkeepers, produced letters purporting to be written by his employer, and induced them to let him have money. Warrant issued. 15. Cheltenham ( Count;,). For stealing, 27th ult., 3 gold rings ( recovered)— A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion pale, hair light brown, eyes blue, of good address; dress, grey overcoat, dark trousers with light stripes, dark cap, lace boots. Appearance of a groom or coachman. He called at a house, stated he wanted lodgings for himself and groom for a month, and while left alone committed the larceny, shortly afterwards left the house under the pretence of going1 to cash a cheque. Information to Supt. Hopkins, Cheltenham. 16.— Gloucester ( County).- For stealing 29th ult., from a hotel yard, a dark grey motor overcoat, deep collar, lined camel hair, also de- tachable leather lining— A MAN, age 23 to 25, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slight build, hair light brown, of smart appearance; dress, dark blue serge jacket and trousers ( tight fitting), red vest, flannel collar, violet tie, light green cap, tan colour gloves. He offered the coat for sale at Stroud the same date. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Gloucester. HAMPSHIRE. 17. Altlershot ( County). — For stealing, 28th ult., £ 14 13s. Id. — FREDERICK OSBORNE, age 25, height 5 ft. 9| in., complexion and hair dark, clean shaved, thin features, eyes deep set, eyebrows black. An absentee from " K" Company Royal Engineers, Southern Dis- trict, Post Office Telegraph. When last seen was wearing uniform. 18- Aldershot ( Count) y).— For embezzling £ 1 4s., 29th ult.— JOSEPH DAVIS, age about 30, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., stout build, hair light, moustache inclined to sandy, Welsh accent; dress, dark tweed suit, dark overcoat and cap, black leggings. A journeyman milkman. He has an account in the Post Office Savings Bank, and may probably withdraw the money and start in business as a, dairyman, and may be accompanied by his brother. Warrant issued. Information to S'ipt. Hawkins, Aldershot. HER TFORDSHIRE. 19.— Hemel Hemestead ( County).— For assaulting and ill- treating a female child, 17th ult.— LUCAS PARKER, age 30 to 40, medium height, complexion, hair, whiskers, moustache, and eyes dark; dress, brown velveteen jacket, dark cord trousers with black cloth patches at bottom, black soft hat. A gipsy.— MARGARET PARKER, age 29, rather tall, hair light, eyes blue; wearing a light shawl, and straw hat. Accompanied by 4 children, ages 9, 5, 2 and 1 year respectively. They travel the country selling clothes pegs, and have with them a light colour donkey and coster- monger's barrow, " Sarah White" painted thereon, and a small tent. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Frogley, Hemel Hemp- stead. LANCASHIRE. 20.— Old Trafford ( County).— For house- breaking— A MAN, age 42, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, slight scar right side of forehead, several tattoo marks left arm, Tings tattooed 2nd and 3nd left fingers. Frequents race meetings and associates with low betting men and welshers. Previously convicted at Bradford, Doncaster, Rochdale, York, Dewsbury, Salford, Blackpool, Manchester, Carlisle, Beverley, and Thirsk, for welshing and gaming. ( See Case No. 24, 10th January last.) Information to Supt. Keys, Old Trafford. 21.— Liverpool ( City).— For stealing, 25th ult., a lady's 18 ct. gold boat, set 2 diamonds and 3 turquoise, " No. 507 B/ D" scratched1 inside; 2 do., set 2 diamonds and 3 emeralds, " No. 1148 L. Z/-" scratched inside; 1 do., fancy shape, 2 diamonds, and 4 rose diamonds, and 2 emeralds, " 190 R. M/-" scratched inside; 1 do., half- hoop, 4 rose diamonds and 3 opals, " No. 2225, B. u/-" scratched inside; 1 do. cluster, 9 diamonds and 3 olivines, " 2233 B/ cc/-" scratched inside; 1 do., fancy shape, 1 diamond and 4 heart shape opals, " M/ E " scratched inside; 1 gold crescent pin, set diamonds and rubies, end rose diamond missing, marked " 200 M/ SL/-"— A MAN, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 8 in., stout build, hair and mous- tache dark, appearance of a Russian Jew. And A WOMAN, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 4 in., stout build, complexion pale, thin face, pointed nose, mole or wart on cheek, and! other marks on face, Jewish accent. They visit jeweller's shops, and during the temporary absence of the assistant, commit larcenies. 22.— Liverpool ( City).— For stealing a gold watch and chain, 12th ult.— ANNIE WILLIAMS, alias ANNIE ACKROYD and LILY HUGHES, age 26, height about 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fair, hair light, eyes blue, speaks quickly, lisps. Has been convicted at Bradford, Manchester, and Salford. For feloniously receiving the above property— WILLIAM NELSON, alias TIM NELSON and TIMOTHY O'NEIL, age 25 to 30, height about 5 ft. 6 in., hair black, clean shaved, eyes dark. Has been convicted at Manchester London, and Bury. • Information to the Head Constable, Liverpool. 28 — Bootle ( Borough). For stealing, 17th ult., a red woollen vest, hand made, single- breasted, 4 pockets, black facings down front and around pockets, white calico lining, fastens with 6 mother- o'- pearl buttons in gold setting, with garnet set in centre; and a white cotton dress shirt. 14J in. collar— H. B. KEMP, age about 25, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair ( large curl in front) sandy, clean shaved, eyes hazel, one upper tooth missing', London accent, of smart appearance; dress, blue overcoat, blue serge suit, blue tie with heavy round gold pin, light grey; cap, usually wears brown or black leather leggings, brown or white woollen gloves. A ship's steward; stated he was a native of Aber- deen. He sailed in the s. s. Cestrian, in 1906, out of Liverpool and Southampton. Had with him 2 brown leather Gladstone bags; 1 Gladstone bag | with white canvas cover; 1 sea chest, lidl covered i with white canvas; and some note paper, headed " S. Y. Atlanta, N. YY. C." RADNORSHIRE. 24: Penybont ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) a " Raleigh" bicycle, No. 128767, 24 in. frame, 28 in. wheels, " Raleigh" tyres, Brooks' saddle, free wheel, upturned handle bars, 2 hand brakes, enamelled black, gold lined— ALBERT WITTS, alias RICHARD GOUGH, age 27, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair sandy, eyes blue, burn mark right jaw, mole front right ear, scar bridge of nose. A farm labourer; native of Stoke Prior, Herefordshire. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Penybont. 5 TA FFORDSHIRE. 25. Longton ( County).- For deserting his wife— RICHARD ASHTON, age 54, height 5 ft. 9i in., complexion fair, hair and moustache brown, eyes blue; wearing dark clothes, black hard felt hat, lace boots. A butcher; native of Longton. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Oakden, Longton. SUSSEX ( East). 20. Patcham ( County).— For stealing a cash box containing 9s. 7d., 21st ult., at Portslade— WILLIAM HENRY WALKER, age 21, height 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair verv light, eyes blue; dress, old dark clothes, dark blue overcoat. Has been convicted of similar offences at Brighton. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Dalmon, Patcham. 27. Eastbourne ( Borough")— For stealing a blanket ( recovered)— CLARA BREADEN, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 5 in., slight build, complexion and hair dark. Accompanied by her Husband, age 42, height 5 ft. 5J in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, 2 fingers and thumb right hand missing. A hawker of picture post- cards, laces, & c., in possession of a Pedlar's Certificate, issued at this Borough 22nd1 October, 1907. Had with him two boys, ages 4 years and 3 months respectively. Warrant issued. 28.— Eastbourne ( Borough). For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences— WILLIAM SIMMONS, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., rather stout build, complexion fair, full face, hair ( cut short) light; dress, dark reefer coat, green cord trousers, black and white check cap, red and black wrapper, heavy boots. Appearance of a navvy. He obtains lodgings on the pretence that two others, who are engaged to commence work the next day at the local railway station, will lodge with him, but absconds after staying one day. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Eastbourne. WORCES TERSHIRE. 29. — Sparkhill ( County). — For attempted munder— A YOUTH, age about IS, short, com- plexion very dark, hair ( curled at sides) black, nose broken or flat; dress, dark suit and cap, green mixture muffler. Information to Supt. Sherriff, Sparkhill. YORKSHIRE ( North Riding). 30. Middlesbrough ( Borough). For ob- taining two sums of 10s., by false pretences, 2nd inst.— JOHAN ANDERSON, alias PAUL HAN- SON, JAMES FRASER, and JOHAN KNOWLES, age about 57, height 5 ft. 4£ in., slight build, complexion sallow, thin face, sunken cheeks, rather heavy moustache ( turning grey), prominent cheek bones, anchor web of right thumb, scar right calf, cut scars on fore and left little fingers, scar right forearm; dress, blue serge suit, sailor's cap with peak. A sailor and joiner; native of Macduff, Banffshire. He took lodgings at a refreshment house, stated he would1 be paid off the same day, produced a fictitious account of wages, obtained money to enable him to purchase a pair of boots, and as security he left a luggage room ticket, representing that a sailor's bag and narcel were deposited at the railway station. Previously convicted of false pretences at Greenock, Glasgow, Montrose, Dundee, Blyth, North Shields, Durham, and Middlesbrough. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Middles- brough. YORKSHIRE ( West Riding). 31.— Pontefract ( County).- For deserting his wife and family, at South Elmsall, 24th Deoember, 1907— FREDERICK GEORGE BROWN, age 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown. A miner; native of Gloucestershire. Warrant issued. 32 .— Pontefract ( Comity).— For deserting his wife and family, at Hemsworth, 1st ult.— FRANK SMITH, alias HARRISON, age 32, height 5 ft. 10£ in., complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache ginger, eyes blue, scar on right shoulder; dress, black jacket and vest, light trousers, black overcoat and cap. A miner; native of Parkgate, Rotherham. Warrant issued. 33. - Pontefract ( County). — For stealing, between 26th ult. and 2nd inst., at Knottingley, 2 bed quilts ( recovered)— KATE McGOWAN, alias TARPAY, age 45, height 5 ft. 2 in., com- plexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue; dress, brown jacket, bright red and green plaid shawl, dark skirt, black straw hat, trimmed black feather. A pedlar; native of Longford. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hollis, Pontefract. 34. Todmorden County).— For embezzling 10s. 6d„ at Mytholmroyd, 8th January last— JOHN HERBERT BRAMALL, age 29, height 5 ft. 11J in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown. A native of Midhopestones, Peni- stone. Has served in the We6t Riding Constabu- lary and the Derbyshire Constabulary. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Brown, Todmorden. 35.-- Bradford ( City),- For failing to report — Licence- holder HARRY PADGETT, alias HARRY" MORTIMER, Office No. 197- 08, age 37, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown ( cast in left), mole left of neck, several scars back left ear. A builder's merchant; native of Bradford. Sentenced at Manchester Assizes, 8th November, 1905, to 3 years penal servitude for obtaining goods by false pretences. Licensed 10th ult. f 532. YORKSHIRE ( Wast Riding). 37.— Pontefract ( County).— For neglecting to maintain his two children— JOHN ROCHE, age 40, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown, wears glasses, dot base of both thumbs, indistinct tattoo marks left wrist.
