DERBYSHIRE- VS.— Chesterfield ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, a silver English lever watch, white dial, gold hands, edge of outer case slightly dented, " Lechstein, Manchester," on dial; 1 gold albert, curb pattern; 1 pair black trousers, and £ 10— A MAN, age about 32, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in. complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark, slightly knock- kneed, South Country accent; dress, black suit, fawn colour dust coat, green cap, muffler, heavy nailed boots. Stated he had ob- tained work as a fitter at Grassmoor Colliery ( false), and that he served his apprenticeship at Ports- mouth. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. DEVONSHIRE. 14.— Honiton { County).— For obtaining £ 50 by false pretences — HARRY MARKHAM, age about 50, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., stoutish build, complexion fair, fat boyish face, hair ( bald on top) light, long at sides, brushed over top of head, moustache fight or sandy, may grow a beard; dress, blue serge coat and trousers, black bowler hat, green open- work knitted tie, wearing a ring with stone left little finger, carried a small brown brief bag ( new). States he was a commercial traveller. Supposed to have defrauded other women by promise of mar riage. Last heard of 23rd ult. at Bournemouth. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. de Schmid, Honiton. 1 o.— Exeter ( City)— For failing to surrender to her bail at the Exeter City Quarter Sessions, 30th ult., for unlawfully and wilfully ill- treating a girl under the age of 16— EVA TAYLOR, age about 36, medium height, rather slight build, com- plexion pale, rather long features, long sharp nose, large mouth, shows her teeth rather prominently when talking, hair and eyes dark; dressed respect- ably. A native of Devonshire. Accompanied by her 4 children ( 1 girl age 12, 2 boys ages 9 and 7, and a baby age about 3). Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, City Police, Exeter. DORSETSHIRE. 16— Poole ( County}.— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences at Longfleet — G. FARNBROUTHER, alias J. FARBROTHER, age 25 to 30, height about 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes small, pimples on face; dress, dark coat and trousers, 2 vests ( 1 fawn colour; 1 dark), both double- breasted, red tie, pin, « > traw motor cap, painted black. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Brown, Poole. on, and a handbag " P. S. E." and " C. V. O." thereon. A grocer; native of Carnarvon. Has recently been employed as a pianoforte canvasser. MURDER. 19.— Dundee ( City).— For murder, 3ut inet. — CHARLES WHITE, ' age 26, height 5 ft. 3 in to 5 ft. 5 in., well built, hair ( curled over forehead) and slight moustache light, tattooed on both aims, flower on 1; dress, dark steel grey jacket ( the seams behind both shoulders burst), vest of different material with thin light stripes ( much too tight for him), dark trousers, wide and long, turned up two or three folds at foot, dark peak cap, light stripe round top, dark blue muffler folded across chest ( may have in his pocket a dark tweed cap, with white stripe forming octagon on top, " Keith Scott, Dundee," on inside, size 6J, new), lace boots, broad round toes, well worn. Is said to be a barber; native of Londonderry. For the past two months he resided in a labour home, Milnbank Road, Dundee, a portion of which time he was employed delivering calendars for a publishing firm in this City. Stated he had been discharged from a Welsh Regiment owing to rupture, and that he had been in many workhouses in England. He returned to the home about 8 o'clock on Friday, the night of the murder, and appears to have been In hiding until about 4 p. m. Sunday, when some of the in- mates discovered him. He was last seen in Dundee about 5 p. m., Sunday, 5th inst., and is supposed to have left the city on tramp. He will, when on tramp, be likely to beg or steal for his sustenance, and may stay at common lodging houses, but is likely to endeavour to get into a labour home, poor- house, or some such institution to be out of public view for a time; may also endeavour to obtain casual employment, such as he had here; is said to hiive been employed at Aluminium works near Ballachulish. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Dundee. HAMPSHIRE. 24.— Alton { County).— For forging a request for £ 2 7s. 6d., with intent to defraud— JAMES WILSON, age 43, height 5 ft. 10J in., slight build, oomplexion pale, hair dark brown, eyes blue, several boil marks back of neck; dress, dark grey suit, blue overcoat, black hard felt hat, brown boots. Has served in the Tilbury Dock Police. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. C., Oct. 10th, 1905," engraved on back; 1 rolled gold brooch, heart with small stone in centre attached;; 1 18 ct. gold fancy bracelet, Hat, set 3 rubies and 2 diamonds; 1 9 ct. gold expanding bracelet with watch in centre; 1 gold keyless watch; 1 18 ct. gold ring, set 5 diamonds " George to Dorothy" en- graved inside; 1 rolled gold marquise ring, red stone in centre, surrounded with brilliants; 1 9 ct. gold brooch, bar pattern, set sapphires and 2 diamonds; 1 circular mosaic brooch; 1 gold necklace, set amethyst and brilliants; 1 lady's 18 ct. gold albert chain; 1 gilt elastic belt; 1 18 ct. gold ring, set pearls; 1 long gold watch chain; 1 circular opal and pearl brooch; 1 gold bar brooch, diamond in centre, surrounded with pearls— A MAN, age 28, height 5 ft. 5J in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes dark grey, wart right forearm, right forefinger deformed, cut scar right chin; dress, old navy blue serge suit, light cap, bright blue tie; dark grey overcoat, old boots. A gardener or hall porter; native of Vienna. Liber- ated from Dorchester Prison, 1st inst., after serv- ing 3 months imprisonment for burglary. Information to Supt. Hack, Bournemouth. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 20.— Pontypridd ( County,.— For failing to report — Supervisee JAMES SMITH, alias LEIGH, PIGGOTT, & c., Office No. 444- 01, age 54, height 5 ft. in., complexion fair, hair and moustache ( turning grey) dark, eyes grey, of smart appearance. A commission agent, but has recently been employed as a gardener; native of Manchester. Was seen in Cardiff about a fortnight ago. Sen- tenced at Gloucester County Quarter Sessions, 5th April, 1906, to 18 months hard labour and 2 years supervision for obtaining postal order by false pretences. Liberated on remission, 9th July, 1907. 1217. To be dealt with where found. Information to Supt. Cole, Pontypridd. HEREFORDSHIRE. 26.— Hereford ( City).— For cruelty to his children by neglecting them— JAMES EMERY, age 48, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown. A tile- turner or brickyard labourer, now supposed to be working as a collier in South Wales; a native of Lugwar- dine, Herefordshire. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Hereford. ESSEX. 17.— Brentwood ( County)— For obtaining, by false pretences, 2 cows ( recovered)— GEORGE HARDING, age 36 to 40, height 5 ft. 8 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair brown, heavy mous- tache dark ; wearing dark clothes, long dark over- coat, black bowler hat. A low horse dealer; supposed a native of Bristol. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Marden, Brentwood. FLINTSHIRE. 18 - Mold ( County)— For embezzling £ 12 2s. 6d.— PERCY S. EVANS, age 27, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, thin face, high cheek bones; wearing a navy blue ribbed suit. In possession of a box " P. S. E." there- GLOUGESTERSHIRE. 21.— Cheltenham ( County).— For em- bezzlement- JAMES W. DAWSON, age 34, height 5 ft. 10 in., thin features, hair very dark, eyes brown; dress, dark brown suit, black bowler or green soft hat. A florist's manager. Has been employed at nurseries at Shanklin, Willersey, Worcestershire, and at Milton, near Cambridge. Is also wanted for failing to surrender to his bail at Gloucester Quarter Sessions, 1st inst., for larceny. Warrant issued. 2i.— Cheltenham ( bounty).— For failing to surrender to his bail, at Gloucester Quarter Ses- sions, on a charge of larceny— JOSEPH PEARCE, alias PEAR, Office No. 822- 07, age 57, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair ( bald) and eyes grey, scar right eyebrow, brown mole right of neck. A shoeing- smith; will probably be found in com- pany of low horse dealers. Has been convicted at Gloucester, Tewkesbury, Cheltenham, and at the Middlesex Sessions of horsestealing, & c. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hopkins, Cheltenham. 23.— Bristol { City).— For obtaining £ 2 by false pretences, 3rd December, 1907— ARTHUR BEVAN, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight build, complexion dark, hair ( thin on top) grey, clean shaved; dress, dark suit, dark grey overcoat, silk hat, rather shabby appearance. He opened an account at Farrow's Bank, Cheapside, London, in September last, and received a cheque book con- taining 30 cheques. He watches local papers and on finding a licensed house to let, calls upon the licensee, states he has found a customer for the business, then gains the licensee's confidence, asks him to cash a cheque, also states he called on behalf of the agent. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Bristol. HERTFORDSHIRE. 27. — Hertford ( County). — For obtaining 3 overcoats ( 1 very light fawn colour; 2 dark rain- proof), by false pretences, 6th inst.- H. BRUTON or HENRY JENNER, age about 35, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion pale, hair light brown, turning grey, clean shaved, eyes blue, scar over right eyebrow; wearing a dark suit, black bowler hat. He obtained the coats and asked to take them home for approval. Accompanied by a woman; dressed in black. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Foster, Hertford. KENT. 28— Canterbury { City).— For obtaining money by false pretences— S. SM1THSON ( sup- posed false), age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion pale, hair and heavy mosutache dark; wearing dark overcoat and bowler hat. He calls on shopkeepers and represents himself as an agent for Fry & Co., produces an illustrated catalogue of show cases for the display of chocolates, and in- vites the proprietors to exchange the case they have for a more elaborate one. The case being decided upon, he receives sums varying from 2s. 6d. to £ 2, giving a receipt for same, signed " S. Smith- son, pp. Fry & Co." Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Canterbury. 29.— Ramstfate ( Boroug) ).— For obtaining 7s. 6d. by false pretences, 1st . nat.— S. SMITH- SON, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slight build, complexion, moustache, and eyebrows dark; wearing dark overcoat, black hard bowler hat, brown gloves, carried an umbrella and a brown leather bag. He calls on small general shopkeepers and confectioners who sell Fry's or Cadbury's chocolate, states he is a representative of the ad- vertising department of Messrs. Fry & Sons, offers to supply opal letters for windows, or bill heads, produces a catalogue of show cases, stating they are now lent instead of being sold. A case is selected and the customer Is asked for a sum of money to insure the case against damage while in transit. He gives receipts on a form filled in with pencil and signed " S. Smithson, pp. Fry & Sons, Ltd." Is identical with S. Smith, Case No. 44, 22nd November, 1907. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Ramsgate. FRIDAY, JANUARY 17, 1908. Information to Supt. Chambers, East Dereham. LANCASHIRE. 37.— Lancaster ( Borough).— For stealing, 14th ult., a gold watch ( recovered)— ROBERT STOCKDALE LAWRENCE, age 38, height 5 ft. I 3 in., complexion very fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown. A traveller. He does sketches in water colours and oils, and may endeavour to obtain a living by selling same. Had about 20 paintings in his possession signed ' R. Lawrence" in left corner. Is accompanied by a woman, age 19, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown. Frequents race meetings and associates with low betting men and welshers. Previously convicted at Bradford, Doncaster, Rochdale, York, Dewsbury, Saiford, Blackpool, Manchester, Car- lisle, Beverley, and Thirsk for welshing and gam- ing. Information to Supt. LINCOLNSHIRE. 41.— Sleaford ( Unnwty).— For being found in a dwelling house at Quarrington, 7th inst., for an unlawful purpose — HENRY BLOW, alias BLOISE, age 38, height 5 ft. 8 in., rather stout build, complexion fresh, clean shaved, small hands; dress, black threequarter- length overcoat, " Semple & Thompson, the City Tailors, Londonderry," on tab, dark grey suit, black tie, black bowler hat, brown boots, carried a stick with gold band, straight bone handle. A native of Timberland. Had in his possession a small light cardboard box, supposed to contain hat or cap, sent to him by rail addressed " H. Bloise, Bristol Arms, Sleaford, from Heath's, 105 to 109 Oxford Street, London." He visits clergy- men, & c., tells a plausible story, and in some cases obtains money. Warrant issued. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 42.— Tredegar ( County).— For stealing letter containing 2 cheques, value £ 13 4s. lOd weight about 13 stones, complexion fresh, full round face, hair, moustache, and whiskers dark brown, eyes brown, 2 rings tattooed 2nd and 3rd left fingers; wearing dark clothes, hard felt hat. WARWICKSHIRE. 46.— Warwick ( Covnty).- Fcr obtaining £ 1 by false pretences— JAMES WALKER, alias HARRIS, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 11 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache light, inclined to sandy. Occasionally follows race meetings, and assists in erecting number boards, & c. A native of Evesham. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Ravenhall, Warwick. Stated he was employed by a firm of chilled meat dealers, and appeared well acquainted with the Colonial meat trade. Warrant issued. Information to Supt.
