All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE . EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. ATIONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far us practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes paiticulars concerning delinquerds or stolen property to be inseried in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly . written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12 All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. I BERKSHIRE. 2.— Reading ( Borough).— For housebreak- ing, 19th inst.— WILLIAM GEORGE POWELL, age 29, height 5 ft. 5 in., oval face ( sunburnt), hair dark brown, eyes ( full) grey, tattooed hands and heart right wrist, cross muscle of right arm, 6 blue dots and scar left forearm; dress, blue pilot double- breasted suit, seaman's blue jersey, blue cap, patent leather peak. Has been recently em- ployed on a boat named Violet Syble, going to France. Sentenced to 4 months hard labour at Bala in May last for burglary. Information to the Chief Constable, Reading. CHESHIRE. 3.— Birkenhead ( County) — For stealing, 11th inst., at Little Sutton, a milk can ( recovered) — JAMES DAVIES DOWNS, alias JIM DAVIES, age 50, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fresh, hair anid eyes brown, second left finger missing, cut mark on nose and forehead, " J. D." left forearm, faint anchor right forearm. A farm labourer; native of Bury, Lanes. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Sutherland, Birkenhead. 4.— Stockport ( Borougn).— For embezzl- ing £ 57 15s. 8d.— ARTHUR WYTHE GOUGH, age 46, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion florid, oval face, hair dark brown ( turning grey at sides), whiskers, moustache and eyes brown, may now be clean shaved, walks erect, addicted to drink and horse racing, appears to have tender feet; dress, dark suit, fawn colour soft felt hat, green tie, lace boots. A cashier; native of Beaumaris. May be found at a quiet seaside place or at Beaumaris, Llandudno, Drogheda, or Liverpool. May be in possession of a loaded revolver. Warrant issued. Information to. the Chief Constable, Stockport. CORN MALL. 5. — Falmouth (. County). — For obtaining 5s. by false pretences— ANNIE WALTERS, age about 27, medium height, complexion fresh; well dressed in black clothing. She obtained money by representing that her husband had obtained em- ployment on a building, and that they were without money until the Saturday following. Is believed to be travelling the country committing similar frauds. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Endean, Falmouth. DEVONSHIRE. 6.— Exeter ( City).— For stealing a lady's 14 ct. gold, watch, very old- fashioned, bevelled glass, chased back, shield in centre, white dial, black numerals; 1 9 ct. gold albert, small curb pattern, sliding bar, gold triangular amethyst seal with dark stone, dog or horse thereon, gold cross and hunchback figure as pendants; 1 gold signet ring, initials " G. V. B." thereon; 1 lady's small silver Geneva watch, worn very thin, maker's name on dial; 1 double curb gold cased chain, gold seal, medallion shape, red and green stone one side, other plain, silver match box at end; and £ 7 10s.— A MAN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion dark, rather stoutish build, full face, hair and moustache dark; dress, lounge suit, supposed bowler hat. He engaged a room at a second- class hotel, 21st inst., and absconded 23rd. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Exeter. 7-— Barnstaple < Borough .— For stealing from his lodgings, 21st inst., a plain gold ring, " 227 " scratched on inside— A MAN, who gave the name of — WALLACE, age 21, height 6 ft. 1 in., slight build, complexion pale, clean shaved; dress, dark brown coat and vest, grey trousers with black stripes, light grey cap. States he has been a motor car driver. May be found at a low refreshment house. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Barnstaple. ESSEX. 8.— Brentwood ( County) — For obtaining, by a worthless cheque, 9th inst., at Hutton, a double barrel breech- loading gun, 20 bore, ejector, by Leech, Chelmsford, marked " No. 2"— F. WALSH, age' about 50, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., rather stout buildi, complexion fresh, full face, hair and heavy moustache light, appearance of a heavy drinker; dress, dark check suit, blue knitted tie, bowler hat, brown boots. The cheque was drawn by F. Walsh, on Farrow's Bank, Ltd., Old Stein, Brighton Branch, for £ 12 10s., the value of the gun, which he may endeavour to sell or pledge. ( Supposed identical with Frederick Herbert, Case No. 4, 26th July last.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 11.— Cardiff ( City).— For obtaining money by a forged advance note— EDWARD ABELL, age 32, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fair, round face, hair and moustache light, eyes grey, short sighted; dress, blue dungaree jacket, black serge trousers, grey cap, old spring side boots. A marine fireman; native of London. He left behind a Shipping Federation ticket with address, 94 Com- mercial Road, Newport, Mon., and a discharge book bearing the name of Thomas Jone6, Cross Keys Inn, Pontnewydd. He will no doubt use the name of William Blake, as he took away a discharge book bearing that name. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Cardiff. Wood, Watford. 14.— St, Albans ( City).— For stealing a bicycle ( recovered)— JACK GILL, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 3 oar 4 in., well built, complexion fresh, full face, hair dark, clean shaved, warts back of both hands, turns his knees outwards when walking, addicted to drink; dress, brown mixture jacket and trousers, fancy vest, black and white spots, lined red flannel, black hard felt hat. A printer's machine minder; believed a native of Leeds. Absconded 21st inst. Will probably tramp the country and call at Salvation Army Homes for relief. Warrant issued. GOODYEAR, age about 27, height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, hair and moustache light; wearing a dark jacket suit. He answers advertisements in the Exchange and Mart from persons advertising for chickens, & c, stating he has some for sale, which he will forward on receipt of postal order. He arranges to have his letters addressed to small shops. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Maidstone. LANARKSHIRE. £ 25 REWARD. 16. — Glasgow ( City). — For stealing 751 pieces of calico cloth, white and grey — JOHN McCARTNEY, age 31, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in, stout build, broad shoulders, red blotchy face, hair and slight moustache dark, slightly bow- legged, addicted to drink and betting. Absconded 5th ult. May seek employment as a packer or porter at warehouses. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. The above reward will be paid by Messrs Hor- rockses, Crewdson & Co, Ltd, 107 Piccadilly, Manchester, for the arrest of McCartney. Information to the Chief Constable, Glasgow. NORTHUMBERLAND. 18.— Gosforth ( County).— For stealing a gold brooch, set 3 paste stones; 1 pink petticoat with frilled hem; 1 lady's fawn colour mackintosh, tartan silk hood; 1 pair lady's black button boots — A WOMAN, age 21, height 5 ft. 4 in, com- plexion pale, hair dark, upper teeth artificial ( 1 missing from right side), of smart appearance; dress, grey striped tweed costume, short jacket, double- breasted, pocket on each side, brown motor cap. Weddell, Gosforth, or to the Chief Constable, Morpeth. 19 — Morpeth ( County).— For failing to annear to his bail, charged with obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences— HORACE ROBINSON, age 24, height 5 ft. 8 in, complexion fresh, hair dark, small scar right side of face, blue dots between both thumbs and forefingers; dress, dark tweed jacket suit, black silk muffler, grey cap. He is a travelling bicycle thief, as he ob- tained another bicycle by similar means, 18th inst, at Kelso. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Berwick- oai- Tweed. PEMBROKESHIRE. 22.— Haverfordwest Castle ( Countv\ — For obtaining £ 18 by false pretences— ERNEST BARRETT, age 25£, height 5 ft. in, com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, scar left knee, shin, bicep, and scalp; was wearing the uniform of the Royal Engineers. He went on furlough to Gillingham, Chatham, about 14th or 15th ult, and gazetted as a deserter. ( Case No. 7, 17th inst.) A native of Birmingham. Warrant issued. 23.— Haverfordwest Castle ' County) — For stealing 16s. 6d.— MARTHA REES, age about 23, height about 5 ft. 2 in, complexion fresh, hair dark brown; dress, long grey jacket, green skirt, white blouse, grey straw hat trimmed pale blue material. A native of Haverfordwest. — LOUISA EVANS, age about 25, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in, complexion fair, hair light brown; dress, navy blue jacket and skirt, light blouse trimmed with lace in front, cream colour muslin hat, wearing glasses. SHROPSHIRE. 24. — Wellington ( County\— For obtaining £ 6 15s, by false pretences, 13th July last — FRANK YORK, alias FRANK ROLAND WILKES, age about 40, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in, complexion pale, hair ( bald on top) and mous- tache dark ( turning grey), all but 1 upper front teeth deficient, stoops slightly when walking, wears glasses; dress, blue serge suit ( sometimes a white vest), hard hat, button boots, wearing a gold watch chain. An accountant; supposed a native of Norton, near Pelsall, Staffs, and to have been in business at Wolverhampton and Coventry. Absconded 19th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. SUSSEX ( East). 27.— Brighton ( Borough'L— For obtaining £ 4 by false pretences, 19th ult.— THOMAS W. FORREST, age about 50, height 5 ft. 7 in, very stout build, complexion fresh, full face, frequents race meetings. Warrant issued. 2$.— Brighton ( Borough). — For stealing £ 21 10s, 12th inst.— GEORGE GOUTHORPE, age 32, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in, rather stout build, completion fresh, hair dark brown, moustache ginger, eyes hazel, red nose, slightly deaf, ad- dicted to drink and cigarette smoking; dress, black jacket and trousers, blue serge vest, blue tie, white straw hat with black band, lace boots. A native of King's Lynn, where at one time he was in business as a butcher. Has also been in business at Wimbledon. Information to the Chief Constable, Brighton. WORCES TERSHIRE. 30.— Malvern ( County).— For stealing a chocolate coloured hand cart, round spokes in wheels; and 18 lbs. of old raw wool— THOMAS WHITE, alios SILVESTER, age 52, height 5 ft. 6 in, complexion pale, hair and moustache dark ( tinged with grey), eyes brown, bracelet on each wrist, ring on both middle fingers, mole left cheek, scar top centre of forehead. YORKSHIRE ( West Riding). 31. — Pontefraot ( Ctunty). — For stealing ( as beneficial owner), £ 9 8s, at South Kirkley, 21st inst.— JOSEPH IRWIN, age 60, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in, complexion fresh, hair brown ( turning grey), beard and moustache ( cut short) grey, bald top of head, slightly bow- legged. A miner; late of South Kirkley. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hollis, Pontefract. 32 — Leeds ( City). — JAMES WILSON alias MILLER, Case No. 5i, 13th inst. Wrarrant withdrawn. 33.— Barnsloy ( Borough). — For stealing from his lodgings, 9th inst, a black vicuna morning coat and vest— — LEACH, age 50 to 55, height 5 ft. 8 in, slight build, complecxion, hair and moustache ( turning grey) dark; dress, grey mixture jacket and vest, dark trousers, black borwler hat, light tan colour boots, wore a gold colour ring. States he is an upholsterer; and native* of Peckham, London. Supposed previously convicted of burglary or housebreaking. Information to Supt. Graham, Carlisle.
