W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to bt taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s.. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from Bt. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Svery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may De. " 957 & Ug" . 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an ofleir of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. I. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they they are alphabetically arranged by counties. i. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZBTTB, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to t\ s number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any annouct- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering lettsr. II. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. IS. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. UNDER the existing arrangements the finger impressions will be taken, and recorded at the Finger Print Department, Convict Supervision Office, New Scotland Yard, of all persons convicted as follows : — ( à) All persons coming within Section 5, 7, or 8 of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871. ( á) All persons, at Assizes or Quarter Sessions, sentenced to not less than one month's im- prisonment, without option of a fine, for any of the offences shown below. < e) All persons, at Petty Sessional, Police, or Stipeudary Magistrate's Court, sentenced to more than one month's imprisonment, with- out option of a fine, for any of the following offences:— Aliens ( Sec. 3 Aliens Act of 1905). Arson. Assaults with intent to rob. Attempted burglary. Attempted larceny. Attempts to break into churches, houses, shops, warehouses, & c. Attempts to obtain goods and money by false pretences. In order to avoid the retention of useless records in the Finger Print Department, the Registrar of Habitual Criminals would be glad if the Chief Constables of Counties, Cities, and Boroughs, will, in future, notify the death of any criminal who has been finger- printed. DERBYSHIRE. 16 — Chesterfield ( Rormiph). — For ob taining, by false pretences, joiners' tools ( recovered) — CHARLES WORDEN, age about 50, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slightly round shoulders, good DUMFRIESSHIRE. 17.— Dumfries ( Burgh).— For obtaining goods by false pretences— ELIJAH WARD, alias GEORGE AUSTIN, age 27 to 30, height about 5 ft. 7 in., stoutish build, hair and small mous- tache dark. A steeplejack; native of Yorkshire. He repaired several chimneys about a month ago, and had 3 or 4 men in his employment, and stated he represented a firm of chimney and spire builders of East Ardsley, Wakefield. He booked from Annan to Maryport per Caledonian Railway, 8th June, and forwarded ladders, chains, etc., to Ul- verston. Was accompanied by his wife and 3 children and stated he was going to work at Work- ington. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Dumfries. EAST LOTHIAN. 18.— Haddington ( County').— For stealing. 15th ult., at Tranent, a safety bicycle, Eadie road racing model, 24 in. frame, black enamelled, 1J in. droop top tube, front fork been replaced with Eadie pattern, not quite fair set, North Road handle bars, celluloid grips, 26 in. wheels, plated, part of front rim very rusty, Clincher Atlas wired- on tyres, 26 by 1 § in., Eadie rat- trap pedals, John Bull toe clips, Eadie fittings throughout— PERCY LENNOX or LENNOCK, age 25 or 26, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion swarthy, sharp fea- tures, hair dark, slight moustache brown, may be clean shaved, eyes grey. He is usually employed by travelling theatrical companies as baggage man. Served 8 or 9 years in the Navy. Is also wanted by the Northumberland Police at Hexham for larceny. Apprehended. A music teacher; native of Anfield, Liverpool, at which place he stated he was an organist. Is identical with Tom Dredgan wanted at Penarth for stealing a watch, and Woodall, wanted at Briton Ferry for stealing a gold chain. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Cardiff. HAMPSHIRE. 20.— Gosport ( County).— For obtaining, by false pretences, 23rd ult., a pair of boots and £ 4 17s. 6d.— JAMES HARRIS, age about 26, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion and; hair dark, eyes dark grey, of militaryi appearance; dress, dark suit, hard felt hat, brown boots. He presented a cheque for £ 5 10s. drawn on the Wilts and Dor- set Banking Co., Ltd., Malmesbury Branch, which was returned marked " no account." HEREFORDSHIRE. 24.— Ledbury ( County).— For stealing, 2nd inst., at Colwall, a silk umbrella, sugar cane handle, knob on handle, piece of silver let in top, silver band with " Samuel Bradburn, Brickford, Grange Heath Farm," engraved thereon — A MAN, age 40, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., complexion, liair, and moustache dark; wearing dark clothes, black cap. HER TFORDSHBRE. 25.— Hatfield ( County .— For failing to ap- pear to a summons, 29th ult., for larceny ( servant) — EDWARD BIRD, age 38, height- 5 ft. 6 in-, complexion dark, hair brown ( turning grey), eyes liazel, tattoo marks both arms; dress, dark jacket and vest, white moleskin trousers, black muffler and cap, carried an overcoat. One may be wearing the stolen jacket and vest. They left behind part of their Reformatory cloth- ing, namely, 2 caps, 1 cord jacket, 1 tweed do., 1 red handkerchief, and 1 cord vest. Warrant issued. Inormation to Inspector Martin, Ware. 28.— Watford ( Count*). — For stealing a lady's silver watch, 1 pair nursing scissors, 1 pair of forceps, 1 midwifery book; also obtained £ 32, and a nurse's uniform with in- tention of entering a lying- in hospital — BRIDGET O'SHEA, age 40 to 45, medium height and build, complexion fresh, hair ( frizzy) brown, eyes blue, quiet and reserved manner, walks with hands clasped and head bowed; dress, black jacket and skirt, brown straw hat with rosette of ribbon each side, or wearing nurse's uniform, serge cloak, small bonnet (" Garrett" inside), blue strings. YORKSHIRE ( East Riding). 31.— DriffieUd ( County^.— For uttering forged cheques to the value of .£ 475— WILLIAM GEORGE GOTTWALTZ, age about 50, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion rather ruddy, hair ( bald on top, turning grey) and eyes brown, carries his head slightly forward, addicted to drink, has lately suffered from diabetes; dress, dark suit, hard felt hat. Supposed a native of Pensnett, near Dudley, and has been employed by Rudge Whitworth as tem- porary clerk for about 3 weeks but left in June last. He called at hotels, took lodgings, and afterwards stated he was in the employ of Rudge Whitworth, Ltd., Cycle Manuacturers, Coventry, as motor tester-, and that the managing director had sent him to arrange for board and lodging for 30 persons who were to follow in the course of a week.
