All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOB OW THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. I. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. I. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4- In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 4. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5a to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 8. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. lour s. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an ojftctr of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 8. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to ( hi number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any annouce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. II All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. II. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. UNDER the existing arrangements the finger impressions will be taken, and recorded at the Finger Print Department, Convict Supervision Office, New Scotland Yard, of all persons convicted as follows : — ( à) All persons coming within Section 5, 7, or 8 of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871. ( á) All persons, at Assizes or Quarter Sessions, sentenced to not less than one month's im- prisonment, without option of a fine, for any of the offences shown below. ( c) All persons, at Petty Sessional, Police, or Stipendary Magistrate's Court, sentenced to more than one month's imprisonment, with- out option of a fine, for any of the following offences: — Aliens ( Sec. 3 Aliens Act of 1905). Arson. Assaults with intent to rob. Attempted burglary. Attempted larceny. Attempts to break into churches, houses, shops, warehouses, < fec. Attempts to obtain goods and money by false pretences. Bankruptcy offences. Being found on enclosed premises. Breaking into churches, houses, shops, warehouses, & c. Burglary. Cattle stealing. Coining. Conspiracies of all descriptions. Embezzlement. Suspected person. Unlawful possession. Uttering counterfeit coin. Warehousebreaking. But all offenders of the first Division, and such of the second Division as have never been pre- viously convicted, are exempted from this order. In order to avoid the retention of useless records in the Finger Print Department, the Registrar of Habitual Criminals would be glad if the Chief Constables of Counties, Cities, and Boroughs, will, in future, notify the death of any criminal who has been finger- printed. The notification should contain the full name and aliases, particulars of conviction, or con- victions if possible, also the No. published in the list of Habitual Criminals. He took lodgings and represented that he was in charge of polo ponies which were stabled in the town. 11 .— Bedford { Borough).— For stealing, 19th ult., a watch and chain ( recovered) — JAMES PHILLPuT, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 11 in., stout build, hair and moustache dark, blue mark under one eye of smart appearance ; dress, slate grey jacket suit, black bowler hat, carried a brown mackintosh. He took lodgings, stated he had obtained employment at a Motor Car works, also stated he had recently returned from America. Information to the Chief Constable, Bedford. BR EC ONSHIRE. 12.— Talgarth ( County). - For obtaining £ 8 10s. by a woithless cheque, 3rd ult.— ERANKLYN C. MEAGEK, age 25, height 6 ft. 1 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, clean Bhaved, large Koman nose, stooping gait, well educated; dress, dark jacket and trousers, dark red fancy riobed vest, pockets bound with dark material, red bow tie, black bowler hat, grey overcoat, brown boots, wearing a large buckle ring, gold colour, carried a small brown hand bag. A native of Swansea. Associates with bookmakers. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Flye, Brecon. CAMBRIDGESHIRE. 13.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For obtain- ing £ 5 by a worthless cheque on Messrs. Simonds' Bank. Renley- on- Ttiames— Rev. JOHJS tt. PAR- KINSON, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., square builu, complexion fresh, clean shaved ; wearing clerical attire. He took lodgings, and on several occasions hired a tricycle. On 4th April last he hired a " Quadrant" tricycle, 26 in. wheels, " Quadrant" transfer on front, Dunlop tyres, top bar can be taken out so as to make the machine suitable for a lady, obtained the above amount from the cycle agent and absconded. Warrant issued. 14.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For stealing, 21st. ult., shoemakers' tools and 10s.— STEPHEN DRAPER, age about 55, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., hair ( turning grey), whiskers and moustache dark; dress, dark suit, black bowler hat. A shoemaker; native of Cheshunt. Absconded 21st ult. Warrant issued. 15— Cambridge ( Borough).— Vor stealing a bicycle, 6th ult.— EDWARD JAMES LOFTS, age 24, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey; dress, brown check suit and cap. A groom; native of Cambridge. Is well known at Newmarket, Royston, and racing stables. Photograph can be seen on application. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Cambridge. CARNARVONSHIRE. 16.— Conway ( County).— For obtaining £ 3 by false pretences, 3rd ult., at Llandudno— HERBERT CARTER, age 55 to 6U, height 5 ft. 5 in., hair, whiskers and moustache, dark ( turning grey), very plausible ; dress, blue coat and vest, brown tweed trousers, dark brown soft felt hat, brown boots, wearing a cheap watch chain and ring. An upholsterer; native of Devonshire, carries his tools in a leather bag. For many years he was employed in London and Manchester. Warrant issued. 17.— Conway ( County).— For breaking into a golf house, 28th ult., and stealing a red and black striped jacket; 1 white woollen sweater; 1 pair shoes, golf nails therein; 1 pair round hair brushes; and golf balls— HARRY HOWARD, age 18, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, pierced heart tattooed right forearm, scar bridge of nose; wearing dark blue military trousers with stripes taken out, and sup- posed part of the stolen clothing and shoes. Is a deserter from the 3rd North Lancashire Militia. A native of Salford. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Rees, Conway. CHESHIRE. IS.— Altrincham ( County).— For forging and uttering a cheque for £ 7 FITTER, age about 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., broad set, com- plexion fresh, red face, hair ( bald on top, long at sides and brushed over bald part) brown, clean shaved, eyes blue, thin lips, firm closed mouth, very plausible, drawls his words when speaking, of good address and theatrical appearance ; dress, navy blue suit, long light dust coat, large black and white bow tie, hard felt hat. He called upon an estate agent, asked for addresses of per- sons having furnished houses to let, one of which he agreed to take, stated that he had just returned from abroad, obtained from the person letting the house the name of a tradesman on whom he called and presented a cheque, purporting to have been signed and endorsed by the former, stating it was returned to him as discount on half a year's rent. The cheque was on the Birmingham District and Counties Bank, Colmore Row, Birmingham. Supposed identical with H. T. Barnes, Case No. 4i, 14th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Okell, Altrincham. 19.— Broxion ( CountyV— For Shopbreaking. 7th ult., at Waverton— WILLIAM THOMAS WARRENS, age 26, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, slight moustache sandy, eyes grey, " TW" front of left forearm, and dots back of left hand, 3 dots between left thumb and forefinger, ship front of right forearm, flag on back of right forearm, several boil marks on back. A hammerman; native of Linlithgow. ( See Case No. 15, 28th ult.). Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hicks, Broxton. 20. — Duklnfield ( County). — For stealing, 15th nit., a quantity of lead ( recovered).— BE < T JOHNSON, alias WATSON, age about 36, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, thin features, long nose, hair dark, clean shaved, woman left forearm of good address; dress, brown plaid jacket and vest, slate colour cord trousers ( nearly new), brown boots, blacked over. A native of Lincoln Has served in the 12th Lancers. Frequents public houses, is fond of singing. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Croghan, Dukinfield. 21.— Hazel Grove* ( County).— For steal- ing, at Northenden, 21st May last, a wedding ring ( recovered, pledged at Manchester) — AGNES PERRIN, alios KELLY, age 26, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion freth, freckled, hair light brown, high cheek bones ; dress, blue dress, light three quarter length jacket, bine motor cap, but- ton boots. A native of Wolverhampton, well known at Didsbury and Withington, Manchester. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. McHale, Hazel Grove. CUMBERLAND. 22.— Cockermouih ( County).— For steal- ing £ 4 10s. from his lodgings at Broughton Moor, 17th ult. — ALBERT MORALEE, age 29, height 5 ft. 4 in., slight build, complexion sallow, oval face, hair black, slight moustache dark, eyes brown, " Faith, Hope, and Charity" tattooed on left forearm, hollow cheeks, slightly knock kneed, walks erect, swaggering gait, addicted to drink, of military appearance ; dress, black serge jacket and vest, dark grey striped trousers, grey silk muffler, light cap, lace boots. A pit sinker; native of Durham. He was discharged with ignominy from the Dur- ham Light Infantry about 5 years ago. Supposed previously convicted of larceny. He has travelled with boxing booths and roundabouts. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Illingworth, Cockermouth. DUMFRIESSHIRE. 23. — Dumfries ( Borough). — For stealing from his lodgings, 28th ult., eight £ 1 notes of British Linen and Union Banks; and 15s. — Licence- holder JAMES WALLACE, alias WALLIS, HOLT, THOMSON, ROBINSON, & c., Office No. 1525- 01, Cases No. 19 and 31, 14th ult., and ILLUSTRATED CIRCULAR 64, Figure 13, age 29, height 5 ft. 3J in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, long thin feautres, bad front teeth, scar right temple; dress, blue jacket suit, carried a small hand bag. He obtained lodgings by falsely representing that he was employed at a Co- operative Stores, gained access to a bedroom and broke open a box belonging to a fellow lodger. DURHAM. 24.— Castle Eden [ County).— For stealing 31st May, at Hatswell, a pony ( recovered) — THOMAS ALEX PATTON, alias MOORE, THOMPSON, FRANKLAND, and DIXON, age 21, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes ( cast in left) blue, red scar back of left wrist, ends of middle and 3rd left fingers crushed, scar right temple and top of head, 2 marks below left elbow; dress, navy blue jacket suit, dark tweed cap, supposed wearing a muffler. A native of Middlesbrough. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Heslop, Castle Eden. ESSEX. 25.— Colchester ( County). — For stealing £ 16, 18th ult.— STANLEY MARMADUKE BORRtvTT, age 17, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown ; drees, shabby blue serge suit, light cap, lace boots. A carpenter ; native of Aldham. He has relatives in Chili, South America, where it is believed he intends to go. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Ackers, Colchester. 26.— Romford ( County).— Kor being con- cerned with Sarah Andrews ( in custody) in steal- ing a bicvcle, 5th May last — THO UAS FRANCIS WOOTTON, age 40 to 50, height 5 ft. 5 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair light, pointed beard, well educated, of good address, pretends to be religious ; dress, light brown jacket and cap, grey tweed knickers with green stripes. A canvasser or agent. May be found canvassing for the sale of sewing machines. ( See Case No. 17, 17th May last.) Warrant issued. 27. — Romford ( County). — For ptealing, 13th ult., a horse ( recovered)— JOE HARDING- HAM, alias YORK and NORFOLK, age about 20, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., slight build, com- plexion pale, full face, hair brown, clean shaved ; dress, light blue coat, seam across back, blue trousers, blue silk neckerchief, light cap, brown boots. A stableman. Associates with low horse- copers and eipsies. Information to Supt. Jones, Romford. GL OUCES TERSHIRE . 28.— Staple Hill ( County).— For escaping from Brentry Inebriates' Home, 26th ult.— JOHN McDONOUGH, age 35, height 5 ft. 3 in., com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue; dress, dark tweed jacket and vest, " Royal Victorian Homes, Brentry," on buttons, cord trousers, red stripe at sides, dark cap, " M. 299" stamped in- side clothing. Sentenced at Childwall, Lanes., 3rd August, 1906, to 3 years at the Reformatory. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cooke, Staple Hill. 29.— Bristol ( City).— For stealing a quantity of iron ( recovered)— JOSEPH NORMAN, alias MORMAN, age about 34, height 5 ft. 10 in., com- plexion sallow, hair dark brown, burn scar inside right elbow and back of wrist, faint dot inside right forearm, burn scar outside left forearm, several small do. both legs, 1 long and < 2 small scars on forehead and scar outer corner of left eyebrow ; dress, dark coat and vest, light trousers, old lace boots ; may be found selling firewood or gathering rags. Absconded 1- ith ult. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Bristol. HAMPSHIRE. 30.— Bournemouth ( County).— For assault. 10th May last— GLADYS BKOWN SYL- VESTER, age about 35, height about 5 ft., com- plexion pale, hair dark brown, eyes" grey; may be wearing brown costume with straw hat, or green dress and brown toque hat trimmed red flowers. Supposed travelling the country with a quack doctor. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hack, Bournemouth. HEREFORDSHIRE. 31. — Hereford ( County). — For stealing, 29th ult., at Llaneynoe, £ 40, including 2 £ 5 notes — WILLIAM DAWSOIN MciNTYRh., age 25, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fair, sunburnt, hair and moustache light, bad teeth; dress, blue slop, brown vest, cord breeches and gaiters, old grey cap, may be wearing a new dark suit, cap, lace boots. A farm labourer; supposed a native of Greenock. Has served in the Army and in South Africa. May endeavour to leave the country. ( See Case No. 22, 7th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. ISLE OF ELY. 32-— Ely ( County).— For failing to report— Supervisee THOMAS BENNETT, alias CORN- WAL, Office No. 2157- 98, age 64, height 5 ft. 8J in., complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) brown, eyes grey, scar on nose. A sailmaker; native of Bristol. Sentenced at Gloucester County Quarter Sessions, 4th April, 1906, to 6 months hard labour, and 2 years supervision for larceny. 1222. To be dealt with where found. LANCASHIRE. 33.— Liver/ tool ( City).— Sentenced at the Liverpool City Police Court, 2 Lst ult., to 12 months imprisonment under the Prevention of Crimes Act for frequenting a dock with intent to commit a felony— JOHN WILLIAM SMITH, alias CHESNEY, Office No. 1217- 04, age 20, height, 5 ft. 11 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown. Has committed numerous larcenies from ships in dock at Liverpool during the past 3 years, and ip believed lo be wanted elsewhere. See Weekly Convict Lists for 1901, page 198. LANCASHIRE. 35.— Liverpool ( City).— DAVID DAVIES, Case No. 33, 21st ult., is identical with ARTHUR STONE, Office No. 2011- 98, convicted of fraud or false pretences at Lampeter Assizes, 17th January, 1895; Gloucester Quarter Sessions, 7th April, 1897; Sligo Assizes, lst December, 1898; Leicester Quarter Sessions, 16th October? 1900 ; Central Criminal Court, 30th June, 1902.
