All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICI GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 8. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. i. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. t. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s,. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 8. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. ^. TIOARS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements ol all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they they are alphabetically arranged by counties. B. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any annouce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper orly; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. IS All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. IS. SPECIAL NOTICE. The amount of stolen property at present " circu- lated " by the Metropolitan Police has become so inordinately large as to prejudice or destroy the practical value of the records, and it has been found necessary to limit it very considerably. It has been decided, therefore, to discontinue the " cir- culation " in Inf ormationsand Pawnbrokers' Lists of all property stolen in the provinces, unless where there are grounds for believing that the property has found its way to the Metropolis. Chief Con- stables are requested accordingly, when forwarding lists of stolen property to Scotland Yard, to send with them a letter to that effect. And if bills or circulars are received in future, unaccompanied by such a letter, it will be assumed that the " circula- tion " of the particulars they contain is not desired. The same course will be followed with respect to property lost and persons missing.
