All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZBTTB, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICI GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to b>: taken upon them by another force. I. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4-. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5J to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. I. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. ILTZON s. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer ol not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to tht number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any annouce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They cmust be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Hissing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. THE EDITOR requests that Chief Officers of Police, when forwarding for identification by the Metropolitan Police the Photographs and descrip- tive forms of Persons in custody, will please see that the specific offence is stated, e. g. :— Stealing £ 1,000 from bank ; stealing pair of boots from shop door ; stealing bale of silk, van unattended, & c., & c. This may often prove a ready means of recognition, and Judges have recently complained of the absence of such particulars in dealing with previous convictions. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. Warrant issued. 6.— X Division•— For obtaining furniture, & c., to the value of £ 57, by false pretences— CYRIL CHERRY, age 28, height 6 ft., complexion pale, hair dark; usually wears dark clothes. High Wycombe { County).— For an indecent assault, at Stokenchurch, 2nd inst.— A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., com- plexion fair, long features, hair brown, limps slightly right leg; dress, dark pilot jacket, rather long, vest with bright buttons, partridge cord trousers, dark neckerchief, grey soft felt hat, light lace boots. CHESHIRE. 9 — Liscard { County).— For failing to sur- render to his bail, for obtaining credit by fraud, 3rd inst.— ALEXANDER McPHEE, age 45, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, burn mark right side of neck, stoops slightly when walking; dress, black frock coat, fan. j coloured vest, light gre-" striped trousers, coloured tie, silk hat, lace boots. May be accompanied by a Woman, and a Girl, age 6. ( See Case No. 11, 26th ult.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. McDonald, Liscard. 10.— Runcorn ( County) — For stealing from his lodgings £ 2 4s.; a gold guard, long and short link pattern, link near swivel has been broken, tied with thread— Licence- holder JAMES WALLACE, alias WALLIS, HOLT, WILLIAMS, THOMP- SON, and ARTHUR ROBINSON, Office No. 1525- 01 ( ILLUSTRATED CIRCULAR 64, Figure 13), ace 29, height 5 ft. 3| in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, clean shaved; dress, blue jacket, brown trousers, black soft felt hat.' A grocer; native of Portobello. He obtained lodg- ings by falsely stating he was employed at the Runcorn and Widnes Cooperative Stores, and while left alone committed the theft. Is also wanted for failing to report by London ( Metro- politan) Police. ( See current Tabular Form.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. He represented himself as a collector for the Fresh Air Fund connected with a weekly periodical. 12.— Macclesfield ( Borough).— For being concerned with Thomas Dinning ( in custody) iti stealing £ 31 by trick, 6th inst.— TWO MEN ( 1st, age about 36, height about 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion fresh, rather thin features, slight mous- tache sandy; dress, brown suit, cap, and boots with tan colour uppers. 2nd, age about 36, height about 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion and moustache dark; dress, grey suit. DORSETSHIRE. 13 — Poolo ( County).— For non- payment of £ 9 15s., maintenance arrears—- WILLIAM BUR- ROWS, age 56, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair and beard turning grey, eyes hazel, female tattooed inside right forearm, tree, tent, & c., muscle of right arm; dress, blue serge suit, yacht- ing cap, brown boots. Has served 20 years ill R. N. Reserve, of which he is still a member. A yachtsman; native of Poole. ( See Case No. 16, 9th November, 1906.) Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 14.— Poole ( County).— For failing to sur- render to his bail, charged with indecent assault on a male person— HERBERT CECIL BOOTII- BY, age 43, height 5 ft. 10 § in., complexion fresh, hair ( thin on top) and moustache dark brown, eyes brown, foreign accent, cut scars above left knee, and ball of left foot, small blue moles left side of neck; dress, dark tweed suit, bowler hat, kid gloves. DURHAM„ 15.— Gateshead ( Borough).— For failing to report— Licence- holder JAMES O'NEILL, alias WILSON, BROWN, and HILL, Office No. 1939- 01, age 31, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, scar right temple and bridge of nose, mole under right ear, and five shamrock leaves right forearm; dress, light striped suit, light cap. A tailor; native of Glasgow. Sentenced at Glasgow High Court, 29th October, 1901, to 5 years penal servitude for attempted larceny ( person) and assaulting Police. His licence was subsequently forfeited at Gateshead Police Court on 1st August, 1906, for failing to report. Liberated on second licence 31st March, 1907, which expires 18th prox. b 703. C." lamp— SARAH ANDREWS ( supposed false), age 20, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, small features, hair dark; dress, green skirt and dark blouse, or short red cycling drees, grey three- quarter length coat, black straw hat, 2 fancy combs in hair, gold watch pinned on breast. Was accom- panied by a Man, whom she called " Father," age 40 to 50, height 5 ft. 5 in., hair light, pointed beard; wearing light brown jacket and cap. He was riding a black bicycle with mudguards, carrier on back with small brown handbag and square parcel thereon. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. HAMPSHIRE. 23'— Aldershot ( County). — For stealing, 4th March last, a Post Office savings bank book ( recovered)— ALEXANDER HAYWARD, age 25, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, eagle and man tattooed right forearm, figure, 3 hearts, and Union Jack left forearm. Is a deserter from the Royal Horse Artillery, and was wearing plain clothes when he absconded, 12th March last. Warrant issued. 24.— Aldershot ( County).— For obtaining money by worthless cheques on the London & South Western Bank, Strand Branch, 20th April, 1907— WILLIAM HARVEY, alias INCH, Office No. S 59601, age 25, height 5 ft., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey; dress, dark tweed suit. A waiter. Sentenced at North London Sessions, 6th February, 1906, to 12 months hard labour, for obtaining valuable securities by false pretences.— CLONY McPHEARSON, age 40, height 4 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) brown; dress, dark tweed suit, black overcoat. A travel- ling journalist, speaks with Scotch accent. Warrants issued. Information to Supt. London; 1 small gold chain, 1 long link and 3 short links pattern, 2 Spanish coins attached, dated 1814 and 1856; 1 old gold hunter watch, white dial, " 1807 " there- on ; 1 gold cable pattern chain, gold pencil case attached, " John Leslie Portal" engraved inside pencil case; 1 pair Zeiss field glasses, in brown case, " J. L. P." on case; 1 blue serge suit, " Denman and Goddard" on tab— ARTHUR JAMES NEWITT, age 21, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel. A native of Had- denham, Bucks.— EDWARD HENRY THORPE, age 20, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion sallow, hair black, eyes brown. A native of Rochester. KENT. 27. — Dart ford ( County). — For bigamy — FRANK WILLIAMS, alias FRANK AUGUS- TUS GEORGE WILLIAMS, age 33, height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion rather pale, hair ( curly) light, eyes blue, scar left side of head, water tumour on one hand; dress, blue serge suit, tweed overcoat. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Kemp, Dartford. 2*.— Rochester ( City).— For failing to re- port— Licence- holder GEORGE SCOTT, alias JAMES LULAND and GEORGE MILLS, Office No. 877- 01, age 50, height 5 ft. in., complexion sallow, face pockmarked, hair light brown, eyes dark grey, ring back second and third left fingers. A painter; native of Dover. Sentenced at Hast- ings Sessions, 22nd October, 1902, to 5 years penal servitude for housebreaking. Licensed 23rd July, 1906; was subsequently sentenced at Folkestone Petty Sessions, 15th October, 1906, to 6 months hard labour for failing to report. Z c 9. To be dealt with where found. Information to the Chief Constable, Rochester. 29.— Gravesend ( Borough).— For obtain- ing a quantity of lead to the value of £ 1 4s., 29th ult., by false pretenoes— J. RENSHAW, age 45, height 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, complexion pale, moustache light. A bricklayer. May seek employ- ment on small buildings. May be aocompanied by a woman, age 47, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion pale, hair and eyes dark; dress, black bodice and dress, white sailor hat. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Gravesend. LANCASHIRE. 30. — Skerton ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) a bicycle ( recovered)— HARRY ALL- RIDGE, alias BURTON, BROWN, NEWSHAM, and GLEDHILL, age 20 to 24, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue; dress, dark mixture tweed suit with indistinct brown and blue stripes running through, double- breasted jacket with extra long lapels, no outside breast pocket, trousers, raised seams, greenish coloured cap, heliotrope tie, dark boots, carries a light rubber mackintosh, lined with drab twill cloth, cross pockets with flaps, straps on cuffs. Sup- posed a native of Blackburn. He takes lodgings at private houses, and calls upon farmers and hotel proprietors, canvassing for insurance of live stock. ( Case No. 37, 5th ult.) Warrant issued. Barnett, Skerton. 31.— Liverpool ( City).— For neglecting to notify their change of residence— Licence- holder DAVID DAVIES, alias WILLIAM HALL and WALTER EVANS, Office No. 1625- 02, age 65, height 5 ft. 5| in., complexion fair, hair grey ( bald), eyes blue, scar bridge of nose, left top of head, front of 2nd finger and front of right hand, left ankle has been broken. Sentenced to 5 years penal servitude and remanet of a former sentence at Knutsford Sessions, 13th October, 1902, for stealing £ 1 6s. 6d. Liberated on licence, 26th April last, which expires 17th February, 1909.
