POLICE GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. FRIDAY, APEIL 26, 1907. VOL. XXIV., No. 2434. 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTB, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to bi taken upon them by another force. g. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be elearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, mnd of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost ef engraving sketches. t. Mvery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the ease may be. LTIONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property tc, be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any annsute- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. NUMEROUS complaints have been received by the Police respecting the business of Harrows and Partridge & Son, 48 Clifton Street, London, E. C. They advertise extensively, by circulars, cloth- ing at exceptionally low prices, requesting that cash be sent with the order. The firm appears to do a legitimate business, but in many cases long delay occurs before the orders are executed, and on enquiry being made they state that the cause is due to unusually large sizes having been ordered. Until December, 1906, they traded as Harrows' London Stores, 640, High Road, Tottenham. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. MARC, and ALEXANDER HEN- DERSON, age 35, height 5 ft. 8 in., hair light, moustache ginger, eyes grey; dress, blue serge suit, soft felt hat. ( See Case No. 1, 15th February, 1907, and Special Notice, llth January, 1907.) Warrant issued. 6.— For stealing ( servant) a money order for £ 2 14s. Id.— MARTIN COHEN, age 24, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair and slight moustache light; dress, black morning coat and vest, trimmed broad braid, dark blue trousers with light stripes, black tie, bowler hat. A traveller; late of Esmond Road, Bedford Park. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 7.— For obtaining £ 25 by false pretences— MAURICE McDONALD, alias THOMAS MC- DONALD, H. E. DRYSDALE and H. ALTON BOND, Office No. 2018- 05, age 38, height 5 ft. 7\ in., complexion fresh, hair, moustache ( clipped) and eyes brown, " B. H." and dot right forearm, of good address, A Scotch cook. Sentenced at Central Criminal Court 25th July, 1904, to 20 months hard labour for false pretences. BUGKINGHA MS Hi RE. 9. — High Wyoombe ( County'.— For altering certain books with intent to defraud — RICHARD WELLICOME, age 53, height 6 ft., complexion fresh, long thin face, high receding forehead, high cheek bones, hollow cheeks, chin turned up, large nose and ears, hair ( thin), mous- tache, and beard ( rather thin) dark, turning grey, several front teeth missing, thick voice, stoops slightly, quick swinging gait, nerves twitch when speaking; dress, black jacket suit, dark grey sac back overcoat, dark tie, hard felt hat, had with him a new black jacket suit and old dark brown mackintosh. A native of Great Marlow, Bucks. He was employed as architect, surveyor, inspector of nuisances, and rate collector to the Marlow Urban District Council. Had in his possession about £ 180, including Bank of England notes, Nos. 77501 to 77509, dated llth June, 1906. Absconded 28th ult. Frequents theatres, music halls, and first- class hotels, and may be found in company of prostitutes or endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Summers, County Police Office, High Wycombe. CAMBRIDGESHIRE. 10.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For stealing, 2nd inst., a gold keyless watch, very thin gold dial, maker, " J. Lattes, Geneva, Caire" on dial, en- graved back, monogram " H H" thereon; 1 reversible seal with 2 amethysts set in gold, snake setting, " H H" on one side— ALBERT E. MORRISON, alias E. A. MORRIS and TOWN- SEND, Office No. S 50521 ( Case No. 10, 15th ult.), age 31, height 5 ft. 4£ in., very irregular teeth, scar on temple and back of ear, unusual growth of hair on breasts. Sentenced at Hants County Sessions, 3rd July, 1905, to 12 months hard labour for forgery; and at Lewes County Ses- sions, 17th October, 190* 5, to 12 months hard labour for stealing clothes, concurrent with first sentence. A laundress or domestic servant. Has been convicted at Man- chester and Blackpool. Warrant issued. 13. — Liscard ( County). — For obtaining money by false pretences— ALBERT PRINCE, alias TAYLOR, age 36, height 5 ft. ins., com- plexion fresh, hair and moustache sandy, eyes grey, scar 2nd left finger ; dress, dark suit, black hard feit hat. A traveller. He represented that he had 50 lbs. of best cocoa for sale which would enable him to qualify for an agency for a firm in London. The person purchased a pound for 2s. 6d., which was afterwards found to be choco- late powder worth about 4d. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. McDonald, Liscard. 11— Nantwich ( County).— For stealing, at Hatherton, a lady's leather purse, 1 dark tweed jacket, 1 light striped tweed vest, 1 pair light striped trousers, and £ 1 4s. — RICHARD STARKEY, age about 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fair, hair light, moustache ( cut short) sandy; " R S" and woman tattooed right forearm ; dress, the stolen jacket, vest and trousers, blue and white striped muffler, dark peak cap, strong lace boots, may be wearing brown cord trousei s, blue neckerchief. Ih.— Launcaston ( County).— For stealing, 10th inst., a lady's " Sunbeam" bicycle, " 20" or " 22" in. frame, enamelled black, Dunlo^ tyres, rubber brake, upturned handle bars, " Sunbeam" gear ease, dents therein, Brooks' saddle, tool bag with outfit and lamp attached— GEORGE HIGGINS, age 18, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., slight build, com- plexion pale, hair light brown, eyes grey, scar over left eye, nose slightly flat; dress, dark check jacket and vest, with squares of red and green lines, dark velvet cord breeches, patched with brown cord, black leather button leggings, bottoms cut off, blue cap, lace boots with nails. Is on licence from Herts Reformatory School, and has been employed on a farm as indoor hand. A native of St. Mary's, Herts. He offered the machine for sale at Bide- ford on 11th inst. May endeavour to enlist or proceed to Wales. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Webber, Launceston. DORSETSHIRE. IS.— Weymouth ( Borough).— For stealing. 15th inst., a pair of boots ( recovered)— JOHN SEYMOUR, age about 25, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., slight light moustache; wearing dark coat and cap. May be found at common lodging houses or low public houses. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Weymouth. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 17.— Bristol ( City).— For stealing a black cob mare, aged, about 14^ hands, hog mane, rather long tail, shod all round, several patches of grey hair underneath saddle; a market cart, 2 rails at each side, rather heavy body painted yellow, lined blue, 1 spoke bent, believed near wheel, " A. Accompanied by a woman, age 20, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight build, com- plexion, hair, and eyes dark; dress, dark skirt, grey ^- length jacket, belt with large buckle at back, black straw sailor hat or blue motor cap. A native of Birmingham. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 18.— Bristol ( City).— For failing to report - Licence- holder JOHN LITTLE, Office No. 150- 01, age 24, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey, bracelet right, 2 dots and bracelet left wrist, figure of woman light, " J. L." left forearm, dot near right thumb, ring 2nd right finger. A labourer; native of Work- ington. Stated he was going to Plymouth, but has not reported there. Sentenced at Exeter City Assizes, 23rd June, 1904, to 3 years penal servitude for larceny. Licensed 15th November, 1906. e236. Information to the Chief Constable, Bristol. HAMPSHIRE. VJ— Aidershot ^ Ouunty— For embezzling £ 2 3s. 8d., 23rd ult.— H. A. KELLY, age 30 to 35, height about 5 ft. 4 in., hair ( bald on top) and moustache dark, large indentation top of skull near forehead; dress, lounge suit, light grey overcoat with velvet collar, hard felt hat. He has travelled abroad a good deal, and it is believed he may en- deavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. iO. — Alaershot t County >. — For stealing, 16th inst., an " Ilixum " bicycle, No. 8989, makers, Gamage, Ltd., 26 in. frame, black enamelled, half dropped handle bars, Dunlop tyres, plated rims, usual parts plated— HENRY JAMES PEARSE, age 22, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eves grey, scar right upper arm, large nose. Is a private of the 5th Lancers. May be wearing plain clothes. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aidershot. 21.— Bournemouth ( County ).— For steal- ing ( bailee), 6th inst., £ 7 9s. 7d.— FRED McKAY, age 40 to 45, height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, thin face, hair sandy grey, moustache brown, eves small, suffers from asthma; dress, dark blue suit, dark tweed cap. A foreman to a concrete compajiy; native of Leeds. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hack, Bournemouth. 22 — Southampton ( Borough).—. For ob- taining food by false pretences— E. R. BOUL- TON, age 52, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., hair and moustache dark, turning grey; dress, dark suit, black overcoat with velvet collar, dark bow tie, black bowler hat, usually wears pince- nez. He reoresented himself as agent to the White Star Company. Warrant issued. 23.— Southampton ( Borough).— For steal- in? a bicycle ( recovered)— F REDERICK LLEWELLYN, age 35, height 5 ft. 8 in., com- plexion, hair ( turning grey), moustache, and eyes dark, North Country accent; dress, dark tweed check coat and vest, light grey striped trousers, blue tie with white spots. A cycle dealer's can- vasser. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Southamp- ton. HEREFORDSHIRE. 24. — Ross ( County). — For receiving a quantity of iron and steel plates, pins, < fcc.— JAMES PREECE, age about 48, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion dark ( swarthy), red cheeks, hair dark brown, moustache ( thick) dark, shaved under chin, eyes ( supposed) brown; dress, black jacket, brown cord trousers or light grey check suit, grey cap or soft felt hat. A metal merchant; native of Hereford. May open a fried fish shop. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Supt. Marston, Ross. 25.— Hereford ( City).— For stealing from his lodgings wearing apparel ( recovered) ; and £ 1 — GEORGE WILLIAMS, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair black, slight moustache dark, eyes hazel; supposed wearing old black morning coat, light grey striped trousers, wide brown waist belt, military shirt, socks, and boots, all stamped " 142." Is believed a native of Leominster. He belongs to the 4th Battalion Shropshire Light Infantry ( Militia). Information to the Chief Constable, Hereford. % HER TFORDSHIRE. 26.— Hitchin ( County).— For obtaining, by false pretences, 9th inst., a navy cloth skirt, 2 combinations, 1 vest ROBERTS, age about 45, height about 5 ft. 4 in., complexion sallow, eyes blue, appears to be addicted to drink ; dress, dark jacket and bat, black and white print skirt. Appearance of a housekeeper or servant. Stated she was housekeeper at a local doctors. Warrant issued. 27. — Hitohin r( County). — For warehouse- breaking, 5th inst., and stealing 2s. Id.— GEORGE WILSON, alias AUGUSTUS NIGHTINGALE, Office No. S 64559, age 27, height 5 ft. 4 in., com- plexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, scar inner corner right eyebrow, mole left cheek and back of neck. A carpenter; native of Lonidon. Sen- tenced at Aylesbury Quarter Sessions, 2nd July, 1906, to 6 months hard labour for counting- house breaking. 314. Warrant issued. LANARKSHIRE. 28.— Glasgow ( City). — For assault, 14th inst.— JOHN RANKIN, age 26, height 5 ft. 5 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair light, clean shaved, bow legged; dress, brownish tweed jacket suit, light cap, brown boots. A joiner. He at one time travelled with a boxing booth. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Glasgow. LANCASHIRE. 29.— Bolton ( County).— For stealing £ 2 7s., 18th inst., from his lodgings at Farnworth— A MAN, age 19, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaved, very dark under eyes; dress, brown jacket, black vest with red snots, greenish riding breeches, brown oloth leggings, pearl buttons, maroon tie, " 9 D. L." on collar, large greenish cap. A native of Heckmond- wike, Yorks. Stated he was a jockey. ( Supposed identical with Man, described in Case No. 37, 5th inst.) Information to Supt. Leeming, County Police Office, Bolton. 30.— Southport ( Borough).— For stealing, 8th inst., a pair of boots ( recovered), and a yellow oilskin jacket— THOMAS RIMMER, alias DALT and FLEETWOOD RIMMER, age about 45, height £ ft. 4 or 5 in., stout build, complexion, hair, and moustache dark, eyes blue, slightly bow legged; dress, dark suit, cap, and muffler. A native of Southport. Is well known on the West Coast between Cardigan Bay and Barrow. Fre- quents the docks at Preston and Fleetwood. Has been convicted at Blackpool of offences against the Fishery Laws. Information to the Chief Constable, Southport. LEICES TERSHIRE. 31.— Leicester { County).— For obtaining 7s. 6d. by false pretences, at Great Wigston, 11th inst.— A MAN, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion, hair, moustache ( cut short) and eyes dark, wears glasses, talks quickly; dress, three- quarter length overcoat, dark jacket and trousers, black hard hat, brown boots, carried a small black or old brown handbag. He obtained the money from a shop assistant by stating that his employer had ordered some " Peerless Powder Polish," which was afterwards found to be worthless. Warrant issued. 32.- Leicester ( County).— For obtaining a a grev fur overcoat, by false pretences, at Syston, 16th inst.— ALBERT BRADSHAW, age about 40, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair dark, eyes grey, large scar over right eye, takes snuff freely; dress, grey jacket, fancy brown and red vest with red buttons, snuff coloured trousers, washing tie, supposed black soft felt hat, light lace boots. A tailor; native of Barrow- on- Soar. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bowley, Leicester. NOR THA MP TONSHIRE. 33.— Peterborough ( City).— For stealing, 6th inst., stonemason's tools ( recovered) — WILLIAM PHEASANT, age about 45, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair brown ( turning grey), moustache ginger ; dress, blue pilot jacket, large pockats, brown cord trousers, grey cap, old lace boots. A labourer ; supposed to belong to the Hunts Militia, well known in Northamptonshire. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Peter- borough. • S TA FFOROSHIRE. 34.— Leek ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) £ 1, at Kingsley, 25th ult.— JAMES WILLIAM MORLEY, age 27, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, awkward gait; dress, dark jacket and vest, brown breeches, dark cap, brown leather leggings and boots. A native of Hollington, Stoke- on- Trent. Was accompanied by a woman, age 20, height 5 ft. 2 in.; dress, threequarter- length jacket, black skirt, cream colour blouse, long brown fur boa, black straw hat. Had with her a small wooden box containing wear- mg apparel, and a post office savings bank book for about £ 12. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Gilbride, Leek. FRIDAY, MARCH 15, 1907. GLOUCES TERSHIRE. 35.— Chipping Sodbury ( County).— For deserting his wife and family during 1904— WILLIAM JOSEPH DUGGAN, age 30, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, scar on forehead, takes short quick steps, fond of reading, frequents public libraries. A grocer's assistant; native of Newburn Kington, Herefordshire. Has been employed at Birming- ham, Wolverhampton, and Kidderminster. Warrant issued. A reward of £ 2 will be paid by the Guardians of the Chipping Sodbury Union for the arrest of Duggan. Information to Supt. Phelps, Chipping Sodbury.
