All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THB POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 1' articulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 6. ^ TIONTS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property tr, be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any annouce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper ordy; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. SPECIAL NOTICE. PRISONERS UNDER REMAND. The aid of the Metropolitan Police is frequently sought by other Police Forces to make inquiries respecting the antecedents of prisoners under re- mand, and such inquiries often result in identi- fying accused persons as being old offenders. But, in many cases, the time allowed for such Inquiries is so brief that effect cannot be given to the request for information or that it can be com- plied with only in a perfunctory manner, and at great inconvenience. The Editor would therefore suggest, in the interest of the Provincial Police Forces, that four clear days, at least, should be allowed in cases of the kind, to complete the inquiries asked for, APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 1.— E Division.— For obtaining £ 1 by a worthless cheque on the London & Provincial Bank ( Hunstanton Branch)— ROLAND HEN- NIKER, alius MAX ROMER, supposed an Austrian, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair ( bald on top) and moustache light brown, eyes ( large) grey, wears pince nez, stoops, has a habit of clasping his hands, a good linguist; wearing grey Chesterfield overcoat, bowler hat. Has visited Hunstanton, Cromer, Herne Bay, Devonport, Plymouth, and Wilton, near Salisbury. ( See Case No. 1, 15th February, 1907.) CHESHIRE. 9. — Liscard ( County). — For obtaining money by false pretences- ALBERT PRINCE, alias TAYLOR, age 36, height 5 ft. 9£ ins., com- plexion fresh, hair and moustache sandy, eyes grey, scar 2nd left finger ; dress, dark suit, black hard felt hat. A traveller. He represented that he had 50 lbs. of beet cocoa for sale which would enable him to qualify for an agency for a firm in London. The person purchased a pound for 2s. 6d., which was afterwards found to be choco- late powder worth about 4d. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. A labourer; native of Rattlesdon. Has served in the 3rd Suffolk Regiment. Warrant issued. 13.— Brentwood ( County).— For abscond- ing with workhouse clothing, 1st inst.— HENRY DANIEL SMITH, age 39, height 5 ft. 6 in., weight 12 stone, complexion dark, large features, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes brown; dress, blue pilot coat, cord vest with sleeves, cord trousers, all stamped " Poplar Union," nailed boots. Marden, Brentwood. 14.— Greys ( County).— For obtaining 7 yds. navy blue alpaca and 4J yards of blue sateen dress lining, by false pretences, 5th inst.— A WOMAN, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 1 in., complexion pale, full face, hair and eyes ( full) dark; dress, fawn colour three- quarter length jacket, grey skirt with 3 or 4 rows of green braid or velvet at bottom, black velvet hat with white sprays. Jordan, Grays. 15.— Thorpe ( County).— For deserting his children, leaving them chargeable to the Tend- ring Union, 25th March.— BARNEY BACON, age 40, height 5 ft. in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes grey; dress, dark grey tweed suit and cap, low shoes. A labourer ; native of Hasketon, Suffolk. Is a Militia reservist. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. KELLY, age 30 to 35, height about 5 ft. 4 in., hair ( bald on top) and moustache dark, large indentation top of skull near forehead; dress, lounge suit, light grey overcoat with velvet collar, hard felt hat. He has travelled abroad a good deal, and it is believed he may en- deavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aidershot. 19.— Alton ( County).— For stealing £ 13, 1st inst.— BERTIE CALE, age 21, height 5 ft. 4£ in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes blue, scar left thumb and back of left hand; dress, dark blue suit, light cap, brown boots. A native of Birmingham. Is a deserter from the 2nd War- wickshire Regiment. Warrant issued. 20.— Alton ( County).— For larceny ( lodgings) — CHARLES TURNER, age 48, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes grey; dress, dark overcoat, blue serge, suit, dark cap. HEREFORDSHIRE. 22. — Ross ( County). — For receiving a quantity of iron and steel plates, pins, Ac.— JAMES PREECE, age about 48, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion dark ( swarthy), red cheeks, hair dark brown, moustache ( thick) dark, shaved under chin, eyes ( supposed) brown; dress, black jacket, brown cord trousers or light grey check suit, grey cap or soft felt hat. A metal merchant; native of Hereford. May open a fried fish shop. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Supt. Marston, Ross. HERTFORDSHIRE. 23.— Hltchin ( County).— For obtaining, by false pretences, 9th inst., a navy cloth skirt, 2 combinations, 1 vest ROBERTS, age about 45, height about 5 ft. 4 in., complexion sallow, eyes blue, appears to be addicted to drink ; dress, dark jacket and hat, black and white print skirt. Appearance of a housekeeper or servant. Stated she was housekeeper at a local doctors. Warrant issued. 24. — Hltohln i ( County). — For warehouse- breaking, 5th inst., and stealing 2s. Id.— GEORGE WILSON, alias AUGUSTUS NIGHTINGALE, Office No. S 64559, age 27, height 5 ft. 4 in., com- plexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, scar inner corner right eyebrow, mole left cheek and back of neck. A carpenter; native of London. Sen- tenced at Aylesbury Quarter Sessions, 2nd July, 1906, to 6 months hard labour for counting- house breaking. 314. Warrant issued. KENT. 26.— Canterbury ( County).— For obtain- ing food, li- c., by false pretences— ALFRED THOMAS TYDINGS, alias JOHN WHITE, age 24, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion pale, hair ( bald patch at back) brown, eyes blue; dress, dark blue serge suit, white wrapper, dark peak cap. A native of Sheerness. Previously convicted at Folkestone. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. A hawker. May be found fre- quenting fish markets, or applying to officers of the Salvation Army for assistance. Stays at common lodging houses. Known at Hastings, Folkestone, Deal, and Dover. LANARKSHIRE. 29.— Glasgow ( City).— For obtaining £ 400 by false pretences— HENRY SHAW, age about 50, height 5 ft. 10 in., well built, hair ( turning grey) dark, greyish moustache; well dressed. A Company promotor, supposed to be travelling Manchester and Birmingham. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Glasgow. LANCASHIRE. 30.— South tjort ( Borough).— For stealing 2nd inst., 4 ladies' gold rings, half hoop ( 1 set 4 diamonds and 3 rubies, claw setting; 1 set 2 dia- monds and 3 sapphires, coronation setting; 1 set ruby surrounded with pearls; 1 set one row of tur- quoise and one row of pearls); 1 gold ring, set ruby, claw setting; 1 gold bracelet, engraved; 1 do. curb; 1 lady's fawn colour jacket, threequarter length; 1 blue under skirt; 1 pair black cashmere stockings; 1 black hat, trimmed 2 feather wings; 1 pair lady's house shoes; 1 lady's umbrella, pearl handle, gold hand, " A. Rigby " engraved thereon; 1 lady's fawn colour ruffle — FLORENCE or ALICE JOHNSON, age about 19, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair brown; probably wearing the stolen clothing. A domestic servant. She spoke of Lichfield and Leicester, and is believed to have been an inmate of a girl's home. 31.— Southport ( Borough).— For stealing, 8th inst., a pair of boots ( recovered), and a yellow oilskin jacket— THOMAS RIMMER, alias DALT and FLEETWOOD RIMMER, age about 45, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., stout build, complexion, hair, and moustache dark, eyes blue, slightly bow legged; dress, dark suit, cap, and muffler. A native of Southport. Is well known on the West Coast between Cardigan Bay and Barrow. Fre- quents the docks at Preston and Fleetwood. Has been convicted at Blackpool of offences against the Fishery Laws. Information to the Chief Constable, Southport. NOR THA MPTONSHIRE. 32.— Peterborough ( City).— For stealing, 6th inst., stonemason's tools ( recovered) — WILLIAM PHEASANT, age about 45, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair brown ( turning grey), moustache ginger ; dress, blue pilot jacket, large pockats, brown cord trousers, grey cap, old lace boots. A labourer ; supposed to belong to the Hunts Militia, well known in Northamptonshire. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Peter- borough. PEMBROKESHIRE. 33.— Haverfordwest ( County').— For em- bezzlement, and stealing 10s.— JOHN BEYNON. age 26, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes rather full ( supposed grey), 2 front upper teeth decayed, swinging gait, an in- veterate smoker of cigarettes; dress, dark serge suit and peak cap. Recently employed as a ship s steward at Fishguard; native of St. Clears, Car- marthenshire. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Haverford- west Castle. SHROPSHIRE. 34.— Brigdnorth ( County).— For cruelty to a child, at Highley, 17th ult.— MARY EGGER- TON, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 5 in., com- plexion pale, hair sandy, wearing large gold colour earrings; dress, red and grey plaid bodice, grey skirt, apron with large stripes, large black hat. She travels the country selling earthenware and enamelled goods. Accompanied by her husband, 2 women, and several children, with 2 large vans, 2 spring carts, and 6 brown horses, " J. Eggerton, Licensed Hawker, Leicester," on one van, " J. Eggerton, Broad Street, Derby, Licensed Hawker," on other and the 2 carts. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Walters, Bridgnorth. 5 TA FFORDSHIRE. 35.— Burslem ( County). — For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, and for lar- ceny ( lodgings) — ALEXANDER CRICHTON, alias FRASER, age 41, height 5 ft. 5 in., com- plexion fresh, hair brown (. turning grey), curly in front, eyes gfrey, tattooed rose, thistle, and sham- rock front of right forearm, sailor with flag, bust of female and " L. Mc " front of left forearm, snake entwined around palm tree back of left forearm; dress, dark brown suit ( trousers shiny at knees), square cut jacket, light plaid cap ( nearly new), dark blue muffler with light blue stripe. Had in his possession a dark blue handkerchief with white spots and a pair of light lace boots, cracked across toes. A moulder; supposed native of Larbert, Stirlingshire. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. • 56.— E Division,— For shopbreaking and stealing £ 21 16s. 4d.— Licence- holder EDWARD WYNDHAM MOORE, alias MALLISON, ROSS, GRANT, and GASCOIGNE- MOORE, Office No. 2548- 00, age 42, height 5 ft. lOf in., well built, hair ( going bald) and moustache dark brown ( now clean shaved), eyes hazel, small pock mark on temple, mole back of neck, of smart appearance, is extremely plausible and talkative; dress, dark suit with white stripes, " Record " on trousers but- tons, dark overcoat, velvet collar, black hard felt hat. A builder; native of Ware. Had in his possession a small hand bag. Was seen at Hunger- ford, Wiltshire, 8th inst., and has visited Marl- borough and Swindon. Sentenced at the Central Criminal Court, 25th July, 1904, to 3 years penal servitude for forging and uttering a cheque. Has also been convicted of similar offences and fraud at Norwich, Dorchester, East Kent, Stafford, and Oxford. Licensed 25th October, 1906. P e 280. Warrant issued. Id. — JOHN ROBERT YAUGHAN, alias MAR- SHALL, age 50, height about 5 ft. 4 in., com- plexion fresh, hair and moustache ( cut short) brown ( turning grey), eyes grey, large ears, walks slowly and erect; dress, frock coat, dark vest and trousers, silk hat, dark tie, lace boots, usually wears a gold albert, and carries an umbrella.
