All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to TUB KDITOH OF THIS POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND VAUD, LONDON, S. W. 1' articulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to b'i taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted tn one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment mult be given, and the exact conditions must Le clearly stated. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 53. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. Q. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property ti. be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any unntuee- vient will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Suturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper oi ly, they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, } iew Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by l'ost Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertions { if accepted) will be given on application. THE EDITOR, New Scotland Yard, London, S. W. SPECIAL NOTICE. 1.— NUMEROUS complaints have been received by the Police respecting the business of Harrows and Partridge & Son, 28 Clifton Street, London, E. C. They advertise extensively, by circulars, cloth- ing at exceptionally low prices, requesting that cash be sent with the order. The firm appears to do a legitimate business, but in many cases long delay occurs before the orders are executed, and on inquiry being made, they state that the cause is due to unusually large sizes having been ordered. Until December, 1906, they traded as Harrows' London Stores, 640 High Road, Tottenham. A horse coper; supposed a native of London. ( Is believed identical with W. Gascoigne, Case No. 21, 15th ult.) 6 — K Division'— For stealing £ 433 f> « . Id. — JOHN ROBERT VAUGHAN, alias MAR- SHALL, age 50, height about 5 ft. 4 in., com- plexion fresh, hair and moustache ( cut short) brown ( turning grey), eyes grey, walks slowly and erect; dress, frock coat, dark vest and trousers, silk hat, dark tie, lace boots, usually wears a gold albert, and carries an umbrella. He was employed as cashier at Stores at Stratford till 14th ult; sup- posed a native of Bradford. Warrant issued. 7.— f* Division.— For stealing money from a gas meter, and assault on Police— JOHN HEM- MINGS, alias JONES, HOWARD, and HEM- ING, Office No. 262- 07, age 22, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, shamrock and " I. L." right, butterfly and anchor left forearm; dress, dark jacket suit, white necker- chief, dark tweed cap. Warrant issued. BERKSHIRE. f. — Wokingham ( County).— For stealing a pair of dark trousers with light stripes, and for obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, 27th ult.— A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair light; dress, dark jacket, white cord trousers, supposed wearing the stolen pair underneath. He took lodgings and stated lie was foreman of a telephone gang. ( Sup- posed identical with Frederick Jennings, Case No. 32, 29th ult.) • Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Goddard, Wokingham. OA MBRIDGESHIRE. 9. — Cambridge ( Borouyn). — KATE HARRIS, Case No. 85, 29th ult., is identical with KATE GARDINER, Office No. S 15618, age 24, complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel. A waitress; native of Northampton. Has been con- victed at Northampton, Maldon, Brentwood, Har- wich, and Colchester. Information to the Chief Constable, Cambridge. CA RNA RIfON SHIRE. 10.— Bangor ( County) — For obtaining £ 9 6s., by a fictitious cheque— E. S. ALLIN, age about 25, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes brown; dress, brown suit, black hard felt hat. The cheque was drawn in his favour, alleged by Edward J. Taylor, and was obtained by him from a clergy- man on the pretence of knowing his family. He produced small cards, " E. S. Allin & Co., Manu- facturers and Importers of Dental Materials, Bristol," thereon. ( Supposed identical with Ernest S. Allin, Case No. 10, 22nd ult.) Warrant issued. Usually carries gloves and a stick. Stated he was a contractor. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 22. — Bristol ( City)— For obtainine m > nev by false pretences— GEORGE BENJAMIN BATES, age 30 to 32, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair and moustache black, conspicuous scar left side of face; wearing a dark grey suit, bowler hat. He is believed to be employed by a photographer at Berkeley, Glou cester, and travels the country canvassing for photograph enlargements, sometimes rides a bicycle. Warrant issued. KENT. 26. — Chatham ( County). — Yor obtaining £ 2 by false pretences— MAJOR GRANT, alias BEAUMONT ( supposed false), age about 60, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., hair ( bald on top) and moustache grey, space between upper front teeth, of military appearance; dress, tweed suit tinged with yellow, cap, black leather leggings. He visits hotels, hires stabling for hunters, then states he is short of money, obtains an advance, and decamps. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Rhodes, Chatham. 27 .— Sandwich ( County). — For stealing. 24th ult., at Broadstairs, a lady's gold hunter watch, keyless, small safety brooch, makers Blan- ford, London, attached ; 1 gold curb bracelet, dia- mond alternate links; and £ 5— A MAN, age 21, height 5 ft. 3 in., slight build, complexion pale, of consumptive appearance, hair light, white hands; dress, blue jacket and vest, black trousers, hard felt hat. An indoor servant. A Frenchman. Information to Supt. Chaney, Sandwich. 2- 1 — Tonhridge ( County\— For obtaining money by false pretences, 9th ult.— A. NORRIS, alias A. HOOKER, age 30, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown, rather peculiar eyes; dress, dark blue serge suit, hard hat. He calls at large houses and states that he is a clerk from the local Post Office, and solicits subscriptions for the purpose of building a gymnasium for the postmen. Had with him a bicycle. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Styles, Tonbridge. 29.— Ramsgate ( Borough)— For stealing £ 5, lst inst.— H. JOHNSON, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight build, hair ( long and curly) dark ( bald on top), slight moustaohe light, large eyes, stoops, walks quickly; wearing dark clothes and cap. Stated he had been employed by a firm of caterers, London, and formerly travelled the country with auctioneers selling cheap jewel- lery. Is believed to have in his possession a reference from an auctioneer, by whom he was employed in Birmingham 6 months ago. Stays at Rowton Houses or common lodging houses, and may be found acting as porter in the vicinity of Commercial Hotels. A painter or porter; native of London. Warrant issued. HAMPSHIRE. 23.— B ournemouth ( Countu).— On com- mitment warrant, for non- payment of £ 10 3s., fine and costs imposed for an offenoe against the Motor Car Act— HARRY FURLONG, age about 28, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fair, hair ( curly) light, eyes blue. A chauffeur; late of Westminster. At the time of the offence, 9th November, 1906, he was holding a motor driver's licence, granted by the London County Council. Information to Supt. A seaman; native of Man- chester. Sentenced at Gloucester County Quarter Sessions, 5th April, 1905, to 12 months hard labour and 2 years supervision for burglary. Supervision expires 22nd February, 1908. Has also been con- victed at Winchester, Carlisle, Swansea, and Liver- pool Assizes. To be dealt with where found. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Harriss, Lan- caster. LINCOLNSHIRE. 31.— Grantham ( Borough).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, 22nd to 24th ult. — HENRY J. NEVILLE, age about 30, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., com- plexion dark, hair brown, clean shaved; dress, dark jacket and breeches, buckskin inside both knees, brown leggings and cap. Represented himself as lessee and manager of a theatre at Fleet- wood, may be found in the company of theatricals. Assumes the name of the proprietor or lessee of whatever theatre he represents himself to be con- nected with. ( Supposed identical with Man, Case No. 20, 29th March, 1907.) Warrant issued, Information to the Chief Constable, Grantham. 32.- Grimsby (. NO TTINGHA MS HI RE. 33. — Nottingham ' » /).— For Obtaining 5s. by false pretences, 12 th ult.— FRANK BURTON, age about 24, height 5 ft. 6 in., com- plexion pale, hair ( curly in front) dark brown, clean shaved, eyes ( large) brown; dress, dark grey jacket suit, light tie, lace boots, carried a small brown leather hand bag. He took lodgings, repre- sented that he was manager to a Musical Comedy Company, advertised as follows : " Wanted', ladies for chorus, musical comedy, experience un- necessary, write manager." On receipt of an appli- cation he forwarded a printed letter requesting a remittance of 5s. as a matter of good faith, which sum he promised to return with the first week's salary. Warrant issued. SHROPSHIRE. 34.— Brigdnorth ( County >.— For cruelty to a child, at Highley, 17th ult.— MARY EGGER- TON, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 5 in., com- plexion pale, hair sandy, wearing large gold colour earrings; dress, red and grey plaid bodice, grey skirt, apron with large stripes, large black hat. She travels the country selling earthenware and enamelled goods. Accompanied by her husband, 2 women, and several children, with 2 large vans, 2 spring carts, and 6 brown horses, " J. Eggerton, Licensed Hawker, Leicester," on one van, " J. Eggerton, Broad Street, Derby, Licensed Hawker," on other and the 2 carts. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Walters, Bridgnorth. WESTMORELAND. 37.— Kendal ( Borough).— For stealing, 23rd ult., a gold filled hunter watch, No. 12332523, plain front and back, silver chain, curb pattern, attached; and a bicycle, enamelled black, 2 patches in front cover, straight handle bar, cork grips, rubber pedals, new chain wheel, 1 crank 7 in. long, other 6i in. long, front rim brake, bag, corru- gated mudguards, bell— HARRY ALLRIDGE, alms BURTON, BROWN, NEWSHAM, and GLEDHILL, age 20 to 24, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fresh, clean shaved; dress, dark grey jacket suit, jacket square cut and rather long, horse shoe pin with fox's head in centre, greenish cap, yellow button boots.
