All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- I cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZBTTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted m one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to br taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 15. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 53. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be sig. ned by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 6. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. H. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning deliquents or stolen property tf. be inserted in the POLICE GAZF. TTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any unnouie- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not luter than Saturday morning. They mvst be clearly written on one side of the paper oi ly; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, bi) Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. ' The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" arc only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. SPECIAL NOTICE. ISSUE OF CROWN OFFICE SUBP( ENAS. THE aid of the Metropolitan Police is fre- quently sought by other Police Forces to apply oil their behalf to the Crown Office to issue sub- poenas for service upon persons whom they require as witnesses in criminal cases. The Regulations of the Crown Office do not permit of this being done, and the Editor IUOW desires to quote, for the information of the Pro- vincial Police Forces, the CROWN OFFICE RULE upon the subject, which is as follows : — " The> party requiring a Crown Office Sub- " poena must attend either in person at the " Crown Office or by Solicitor. " He must procure the proper form of Sub- " poena, which can be obtained at the RoyaJ " Courts of Justice, together with Praecip, for " which a fee of 5s. is charged." CITY OF LONDON. 2.— For stealing H cwt. of linotype metal ( re- covered) - CHARLES STELLER, a German, age 55 to 60, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, round face, hair ( bald oil top), moustache, and eyes grey, walks quickly, very active; dress, dark grey suit, soft felt hat. A printer's machine hand. Warrant issued. Not to arrested out of the United Kingdom. 3.— For misappropriation of trust funds— WILLIAM GEORGE RICHARDSON, age about 45, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fresh, full face, hair and moustache dark. A YRSHIRE. 4 — Ayr ( County). — For being concerned with William Currie ( No. 564- 04, Scottish Prison Register) ( in custody), in stealing, 16th inst., from a farm house at Riccarton, about 100 5s. pieces, a considerable number of which are George IV. issue, and a number are of 1887 and 1897 issue; about 50 Victorian 4s. pieces; about 150 half- crowns, a large number of which are George III. and George IV. issue; the remainder in 2s., Is., 6d., and 3d. pieces, a considerable number of which are Queen Victoria Jubilee coins, and old coins dating back to 1813; and a number of foreign • silver coins, some of which are American; about 2s. bronze — ALEXANDER M'FARLANE, age 26, height 5 ft. 9 in., stout build, com- plexion fresh, round face, hair brown, small mous- tache light; dress, dark jacket and vest of rough hairy material, light trousers with patch on right knee and darned on left knee, red and white striped cotton shirt, leather belt, light grey peak cap, Militia boots ( well worn). S.— Dumfries aunty — For larceny and for contravention of the Post Office Act— WIL- LIAM THOMAS GRAHAM, age 39, height about 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, complexion fresh, full red face, hair ( tinged with grey) dark, clean shaved, eyes blue, may be slightly lame; dress, dark tweed suit, dark rainproof overcoat, dark grey cap, light lace boots. A native of Biggar, Lanarkshire. He served 12 years in the K. O. Scottish Borderers. Absconded 9th inst. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, County Police Office, Dumfries. DURHAM. 9— Stockton - on - fees ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, between 7th and 16th inst., also for stealing a purse; 1 small looking glass; 1 red handkerchi and 12s. 6d.— CHARLES HODGSON, age 29, height about 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fair, hair ( bald) dark brown; dress, navy blue suit, light cap, lace boots. Stated he was a joiner; native of Shields, and » that ( he obtained employment in the neighbourhood. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hildreth, Stockton- on- Tees. 10 — Sunderland ( Borough).— For obtain- ing money by false pretences— ABRAHAM CALLANDER, age 46, height 5 ft. 6 in., com- plexion ruddy, oval face, hair ( slightly bald) and moustache dark ( turning grey), rather prominent nose, " A. C." and anchor tattooed on right fore- arm, cross outside left forearm, scar on outside right forearm; dress, blue jacket suit, coat, blue cap, scarlet tie, wore a ring set with brown stone, engraved with Freemason's mark, Free- mason's pendant attached to watch chain. A Dutch Jew, speaks with slight foreign accent, some- times represents himself to be a Scotchman. Ap- pears to have been a Dutch pilot; and native of Amsterdam or Rotterdam. Speaks several lan- guages fluently. Describes himself as a shipping tourist agent, or estate owner in South America. He advertises for a manager for his fruit growing estate in South America, and on obtaining money aa security from applicants absconds. Convicted at West Hartlepool on 30th June, 1905, and at Chelmsford Assizes, on 11th November, 1905, of fraud and forgery, respectively. Is well known at most sea ports in this country and on the Con- tinent, where he is believed to conduct similar frauds, and to bring intended victims to this country on the pretence of making them partners in some business of which he represents himself the owner. ESSEX. 11— Saffron Walden ( County). — For stealing £ 9 4s., 13th inst.— SIM CLAYDON, age 34, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fair, hair and moustache light, eyes blue, scar left eye; dress, dark striped jacket suit, dark overcoat, dark blue cap, may be wearing hard felt hat. A native of Clavering, Essex. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hailstone, Saffron Walden. FLINTSHIRE. 12.— Mold ( County).— Far stealing a clario- net and case ( black leather with " Band, 2nd V/ B R. W. Fus." in white paint thereon)— GEORGE CHARLES HALL, age 27, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fair, appears flat- footed, slight mous- tache; dress, dark coat and trousers, tweed cap. A good musician; served 12 years in the 11th Hussars, in possession of King and Queen's South African War medals. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Mold. GLA MORGA NSHIRE. 13.— Cardiff ( City}.— For wounding— ANASTACHE CHOMATIONAS, age 25, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight build, hair light, slight moustache, inclined to curl, boil scar on side of neck; dress, dark coat and trousers, grey vest and cap. Of Greek nationality. This man was paid off the s. s. Etlielwind at Hull on 12th inst. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Cardiff. GLOUCES TERSHIRE . 14.— Bristol ( City).— For obtaining money by false pretences — GEORGE THOMAS TILTON, alias THOMAS WILSON, DERRENT, and CLUTTERBUCK, Office No. 3513- 99, age about 50, height 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, hair brown, eyes hazel, haggard appearance, scar on bridge of nose and fleshy mole on back of neck, right leg in. shorter than left, and when he absconded, on the 13th inst., was wearing a brown coat, dark trousers, and bowler hat. Was accom- panied by his Wife, age about 34, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in.; wearing a light jacket and black sailor hat; a Girl, age about 4 years; and a Baby, age 6 months. He was discharged from Bristol Prison, 11th January last, after serving 6 months for false pretences, secured employment as a canvasser for a firm of publishers in London, and obtained the money from their agent here by means of bogus orders He has a quantity of the firm's stationery in his possession, and will probably fraudulently mis- use it; usually calls upon tradesmen and repre- sents that he is employed as a gardener, coachman, & c., for someone living in the suburbs, who has sent him with an order for goods. After making arrangements for the goods to be delivered, he leaves the shop, but returns directly afterwards and borrows money under the pretence that he has not brought enough with him to make a purchase at another shop. He has been convicted at Gloucester, Usk, Bath, New- port, Mon., Hereford, Portsmouth, Cambridge, Clerkenwell, and St. Albans. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. HAMPSHIRE. 15. — Bournemouth ( County).— For neglecting to maintain his wife and family— SAMUEL MARTIN, alias FREDERICK WIL- LIAMS, age 40, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes hazel. A labourer; native of Yeovil. Warrant issued. 16.— Bournemouth ( County).— For ob- taining a banker's order for ill 10s., by false pre- tences, 21st ult.— FREDERICK HOARE, age 22, height 5 ft. 7| in., complexion and small moustache dark, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, scar inside left forearm, heart and clasped hands back of right wrist, horse shoe with horse's head in centre, back of right forearm, " F. H." and dot back of left hand, several indistinct marks back of left hand; dress, dark jacket suit and cap, sup- posed white muffler. A baker; native of Bourne- mouth. Warrant issued. Hack, Bournemouth. 17.— Gosport ( County).— For stealing, 21st inst., from his lodgings, a watch ( recovered) and a gold colour chain with locket, containing photo- graphs of 2 ladies, attached— A MAN, age about 22, height about 5 ft. 7f in., complexion dark, hair brown, eyes hazel, several front unner teeth missing, scar left forearm, heart and clasped hands tattooed back right wrist, horseshoe and horse's head in centre light forearm, " F. H." and dot back left wrist, indistinct marks back left hand ; dress, dark jacket suit and cap. supposed white muffler. Information to Supt. Cottle, Gosport. 18.— Southampton { Borough).— For steal- ing, 13th inst., a gold Peerless lever watch, No. 278354. monogram on back, " F. H. G." inscription engraved inside, " Presented to F. Harold Gay- lard, bv the members of the Brockley Hockey Club, Mav. 1903, 1 April, 1903 "; 1 gold albert, curb pattern, with appendages, viz., 2 coins ( 1 gilded threepenny piece; 1 Guernsey Is. 8d. double, filded1); 1 tiny case, containing a pair of spectacles; 1 filled gold sovereign purse; 1 silver stop watch, maker, " Samuel "; 1 9 ct. gold chain, with Kruger sovereign attached; 2 brown leather kit bags ( 1 marked " E. J., passenger to St. Malo"; 1 " Lyons, St. Malo")— TWO MEN ( 1st, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion and hair dark, moustache stubby; dress, dark blue suit and cap, well spoken. 2nd, tall; wearing long grey overcoat, light trilby hat). HERE FORDSHIRE. 19- — ROSS ( County).— For stealing a quantity of bolts, plates, and screws, from the Great Western Railway — CHARLES WILLIAMS, alias BLADDER, age 27, height 5 ft. 10J in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light brown, eyes grey, bust of Lord Roberts on chest, female, star, ballet girl, eyes, crossed flags, heart, scroll, and " Edith" right arm, soldier, flowers, heart, scroll, lily, ballet girl, horse's head and bridle left arm; dress, dark brown or grey jacket, dark cord trousers, old grey cap, strong boots. A labourer or drover; native of Ross. Has served in the Army. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Marston, Ross. HUN TING HO NSHIRE. 20.— Huntingdon it'oix't.' .— Hor stealing, 24th inst., a cheque book ( Barclay & Co.), con- taining 18 cheques, u„° U982. t >.. O. i « 40 A MAN, who gave the name of HENRY J. NEVILLE, age about 30, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion dark, thin face, hair brown, clean shaved, of good address; dress, dark jacket and breeches, buck- skin inside both knees, brown leggings, and cap. He hired a trap and drove to Cambridge, and in payment gave the driver one of the above cheques for £ 1. Is believed to have left Cambridge for London on 25th inst. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Huntingdon. ISLE OF ELY. 21.— March ( County).— For stealing, 18th inst., a racing bicycle, transfer " Royal Asena," maker " Dyson, Bradford," enamelled black, 24 in. frame, 28 in. wheels, Palmer tyres, jointless lims, fixed wheel, rat trap pedals, Eadie fittings throughout, lamp and bell-— A MAN, age about 19, height 5 ft. 7 or 8~ in., complexion fresh, spotted face, hair brown, broad Yorkshire dialect; dress, dark suit and cap, red tie, white silk necker- chief. Information to Supt. Nixon, March. KENT. 22.— Maidstone ( Borough).— For stealing, 13th inst., clothing, & c. ( mostly recovered)— ALBERT ORME, alias MILES and PATTEN- DEN, age 28, height about 5 ft. 10 in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, upper teeth artificial, of smart appearance; dress, fawn colour square cut ooat, grey trousers, greenish mixture cap. Has been employed as a valet. Stated he was an agent for the Singer Sewing Machine Co., also that he was about to open a boot business. Convicted of larceny on 6tli January, 1906.— MAUD STAN- LEY, alias MILES, age about 22, height 5 7 or 8 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair light brown, scar on one side of face, pregnant; dress, long grey jacket, black fur necklet, brown or black skirt, brown felt hat, brown boots. Sen- tenced at Sevenoaks, 3rd November, 1905, to 6 months imprisonment for obtaining money by false pretences. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Maidstone. LANARKSHIRE. 23.— Glasgow ( City).— For stealing over- coats, gloves and umbrellas ( 8 charges), from the University, between 2nd ult. and 7th inst.— ISAAC TWINN, alias QUINN, Office No. S 56385, age 28, height 5 ft. 6 in., completion sallow, hair ( thin on top) brown, clean shaved, eyes dark blue, speaks with slight Irish accent, and appeai- s to have a slight impediment in speech; dress, blue serge suit, old dark overcoat, brown or grey soft felt hat, or grey cap. Sentenced at Chelmsford Petty Sessions, 8th September, 1905, to 1 month hard labour for cycle stealing; and on 5th November, 1906, was sentenced at Edinburgh Police Court to 10 days imprisonment for larceny. May be found at motor garages, hiring establish- ments, lodging houses, & c. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Chief Constable Stevenson, Glasgow. LANCASHIRE. 24.— Blackpool ( Borough).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, 9th inst.— GEORGE FLETCHER, age about 25, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slight build, complexion fresh, small features, hair ( inclined to curly) and mous- tache light, wears gold rimmed glasses, well edu cated; dress, brown jacket suit, grey cap, rubber collar, heliotrope and white tie, brown kid gloves. Stated he had served on H. M. S. " Terrible" and in South Africa. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Blackpool. FRIDAY. CITY OF LONDON. 25.— For falsification of accounts — JOHN BRADLEY WILLIAMSON, age 30, height about 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, hair and moustache brown long face, long tapering fingers; dress, dark green- ish grey jacket suit, grey overcoat, bowler hat. Has worked at Burnley ( Bank Top Railway Station bookstall) and at Southport. Native of Rochdale, Lancashire Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Supt. LANG A SHIRE. 26. - Sal fort* ( Borough).- For stealing £ 34 — WILL SPEARMAN, age 35, height 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, stoops, complexion fresh, hair and moustache brown, hesitancy in speech; dress, dark tweed suit, grey overcoat, black hard felt hat. He was employed as manager for the Bio- Tableaux Co. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Salford. BERKSHIRE. 27.— Wokingham ( County).— For obtain- ing money by false pretences— WILLIAM hair and slight moustache dark brown, eyes blue or grey, scar back of right hand, mole on right cheek near chin, second left toe has been fractured; dress, usually jacket suit and leggings when cycling, sometimes wears overcoat and hard hat. He de- frauds small shopkeepers by obtaining payment in advance for potatuos, eggs, apples, rabbits, & c. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Goddard, Wokingham. DERBYSHIRE. 28. — Derby ( County). — For larceny and fraud— JOHN FRANCIS BAMFORTH, age 50, height 5 ft. 11 in., hair ( thick) dark, beard ( cut short) and moustache sandy, eyes blue, aquiline nose, teeth discoloured, walks slowly, thick voice and runs his words together; usuallv wears loosely cut clothes and fancy vest. A native of Wath- on- Dearne, Yorkshire. Until recently he was em- ployed as District Surveyor of Highways. Ab- sconded about 2 months ago. Warrant issued. YORKSHIRE ( West Kit! ing). 29. — Pontefract ( County). — Committed for trial, charged with larceny— THOMAS WHITE, alius RAYBOULD, age 41, height 5 ft. 3£ in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, anchor right forearm. A racing tout and groom; native of Birmingham. Is well acquainted with prison discipline, and states he has often been imprisoned. Information to Supt. Hollis, Pontefract.
