Jftpary announcement, if for the apprehension of a perton, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if tf& t name of such person ia required to be inserted and no warrant is in faret against him, the requisition must be tigned by the chief officer of faliei, or hit immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the « s « « may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property mutt be guaranteed by an ofltn of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of ttolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 0. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or ttolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension tt recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to thi number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announct- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be receivti not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one tide of the paptt only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, A etc Scotland Yard. by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Poti Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot tt guaranteed. The charge for such insertions ( if accepted) will be given on application SPECIAL NOTICE. The following is a copy of the order which governs the circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detection of crime. The Editor inserts it, in hope of preventing delays which some- times occur in publishing snch notices, on account of their not being in accordance with the regula- tions in force in the Metropolis :— 1.— Printed hand- bills, or other advertisements, offering a reward for the discovery ol property or the detection of crime, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibited, with the sanction of the Commis- sioners, on the application of private persons, or of the Police of any County or Borough, must be clearly expressed in relation to the following points :— ( a) The amount of the reward. ( J) The conditions on which it is payable. ( c) The name and address of the person by whom it will be paid. (< Z) The name and address of the printer must appear • thereon. 2.— No expression must be used in such an advertisement in relation to property stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holdine out any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offender being brought to trial, or withont enquiry. Attention is particularlydirected to the conditions ( a) to ( d), clause 1, as Police Notices are constantly being received by the Metropolitan Police in which the conditions mentioned have not been complied with, especially those marked ( a) and ( c). Such notices are not distributed. NOTE.— There are 191 Stations of the Metro- politan Police Force at which Notices can be posted. [ Insert name and address of the Printer.] It is to be specially noted that all printed Bills or Circulars forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office for posting or dis- tribution, whether offering rewards or otherwise should have the Printer's name and address thereon, as required by the Act 32 and 33 Vic., cap. 24 ( see second Schedule re- enacting sec. 2 of 2 and 3 Vic., cap. 12). APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 1 .— C Division*— For stealing, 25lh ult., a circular diamond brooch, ribbon and collet pat- tern, set 6 large diamonds, 141 small do., " 2719" scratched thereon, combined weight 5f, and 1- 32 cts; 1 do. crescent, set 21 diamonds, " 2047" scratched thereon, combined weight 5J, 1- 16, and 1- 32 cts.; 1 lady's ring, set 5 square cut diamonds, ill " 1490" scratched on shank, combined weight 4 1- 32 cts., in platinum coronet setting. 26th ult, a brooch, set square emerald, weight 4 cts., surrounded with 12 brilliants, weight 12 cts, " 1.181" scratched thereon; 1 round do., 4 leaf shamrock, composed 1 brown and 1 white brilliant, 1 ruby and 1 emerald, each stone surrounded with diamonds, the whole enclosed in a rustic diamond circle, " 1.173" scratched thereon; 1 round do., set large diamond in centre, surrounded by 40 small diamonds, " 1.5722 " scratched thereon. — TWO MEN ( lst, age 50, medium height, com- plexion dark, broad face, hair ( turning grey) dark, clean shaved; wearing grey check Chesterfield overcoat, black hard felt hat. 2nd, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, complexion sun- burnt, high cheek bones, moustache dark; dress, black jacket suit, dark blue tie, black bowler hat, wearing a pin set cabochon sapphire surrounded with small diamonds, large gold pendant, set scor- pion's head and tail, set diamonds. He arrived at Liverpool 21st ult. from New York). Supposed Americans. The first described man entered a shop, asked to be shown brooches, & c., price about 50 dollars, selected on approval a brooch and ring at a moderate price, for which he paid on the understanding that should he not require both articles and return one of them the following day the money be refunded; also requested that the tickets be not detached from either. The second man subsequently entered, and under the pre- tence of making a purchase, substituted in trays the brooch and ring referred to for those stolen. It is probable that these men will commit similar offences in large towns throughout Great Britain. 2.— D Division.— For obtaining £ 30 by false pretences, 22nd November, 1906— WIL- LIAM GRAHAM MACKEY, age 45 to 50, height about 5 ft. 11 in., complexion florid, hair ( turn- ing grey) dark, long moustache brown, may now be clean shaved, front upper teeth protrude, irregular and bad colour, speaks with Irish- Ameri- can accent; dress, fawn colour overcoat, blue serge suit, soft grey hat or P. & O. cap. Believed a native of Heme Bay. Warrant issued. 3.— G Division.— For obtaining boots by by false pretences— CHARLES THORPE, alias TAYLOR, age 30, height 5 ft. 11£ in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes blue; dress, black suit, dark Chesterfield overcoat, black hard felt hat, lace boots. A native of Portsea. Warrant issued. 4.— L Division•— For stealing, 9th October last, 2 guns ( recovered)— HARRY NELSON, aga 27, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion sallow, hair dark, clean shaved, eyes grey; dress, dark jacket suit, light Raglan overcoat, grey cap. A native of Hackney. Warrant issued. 5. - N Division.— For obtaining £ 5 by false pretences, 30th January last— BENJAMIN GERDES, age 38, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, hair light, moustache ginger, gruff voice; dress, dark grey striped overcoat, blue serge suit, black hard felt hat, gold snake ring on one left finger. An Insurance canvasser; native of London. He advertised in daily papers for an agent who would be required to deposit £ 5. Warrant issued. GEORGE RALPH POTTS, age 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slight build, erect bearing, complexion sallow, hair and moustache ( slight) dark, eyes ( piercing) black, high cheek bones, speaks quietly; wearing dark grey overcoat, hard felt hat. A superintendent of catering depots; late of First Avenue, Hoe Street, Walthamstow. May be ac- companied by A WOMAN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion pale, hair very dark, teeth bad in front, of good address. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. BERKSHIRE. 7.— Reading ( Borough).— For stealing £ 14 and a gold watch— ELIZA INGRAM, age 30, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes dark, small scar right cheek; dress, brown skirt, black beaver loose fitting jacket, blue felt hat with blue and white feathers, brown button boots. Was accompanied by her Daughter, age 12, complexion fresh, hair dark, eyes blue; wear- ing blue skirt and jacket, red beaver hat. Also by a Man, age 30, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache black, eyes hazel; dress, double- breasted jacket suit, brown tweed overcoat, double- breasted, pearl buttons, green cap. CA MBRIDGESHIRE. 8.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For stealing, 2nd inst., a gold keyless watch, very thin, gold dial, maker, " J. Lattes, Geneva, Caire," on dial, engraved back, monogram " H. H." thereon; 1 reversible seal with 2 amethysts set in gold snake setting, " H. H." on one side— E. A. MORRIS, alias TOWNSEND, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., rather broad shoulders, complexion sallow, hair dark, heavy moustache brown; dress, brown jacket suit and cap, gold safety pin in tie, brown boots. Has been employed as indoor servant at a school as Eastbourne. Absconded 2nd inst. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Cambridge. CHESHIRE. 9.— Crewe ( County).— For obtaining £ 2 10s. by false pretences, on 17th Novem- ber, 1906. — ALBERT YOXALL, age 24 or 25, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., rather stout build, complexion and hair dark, full face, long thin nose, slightly bow- legged, turns toes inwards; dress, dark coat and vest, cord trousers, dark cap, red and black scarf. Pearson, Crewe. 10 — Hazel Grove ( County).— For house- breaking, 15th ult., at Bredbury, and stealing 3 African gold studs, chased; 1 gold signet ring, set blood stone, initial " M " on ring; 1 gold pin, claw setting, pearl centre; 1 do., twisted wire, pearl in centre; 30 foreign coins, including a Kruger half - crown, florin, shilling, sixpence, and three- penny piece; 1 Mexican dollar; 1 Canadian silver coin; 3 George III. pennies; 2 Spanish silver coins — TWO MEN ( 1st, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair light brown; wearing light fawn colour three quarter length overcoat, light cap. 2nd, age 30 to 32, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, prominent nose; dress, dark jacket suit, hard felt hat). Information to Supt. McHale, Hazel Grove. DERBYSHIRE. 11— Chesterfield ( Borough). — For ob- taining by false pretences, 24th July, 1905, a quantity of picks, shovels, & c. ( recovered)— WIL- LIAM BALM, alias HARRY WILLIAMS, age 46, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., good build, moustache dark; may be wearing a beard, long scar left thumb and on 2nd right finger. A ganger. He represented that he was a sub- contractor and re- quired the articles for use on some works in the neighbourhood. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Chesterfield. ESSEX. 1 Z.— Epping ( Cou. ntu).— For embezzling 10s. — JOSEPH MORDECAI, alias NORTON and BROCK, Office No. 71- 05 ( ILLUSTRATED CIRCULAR No. 76, Fig. 18), age 31, height 5 ft. 10J in., com- plexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, brown scar back of left hand; dress, grey overcoat and cap, check jacket and trousers. Laver, Epping. vs.— Southend- on- Sea ( County).— For embezzling £ 30— EDWIN HARRISON, age 30, height 6 ft., stout build, complexion fresh, full face, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, supposed lame one foot; dress, dark jacket suit. H.— Southend- on- Sea ( County).— Yor failing to appear at Essex Quarter Sessions, 20th October, 1905, charged with stealing £ 100— JOHN CAMPBELL CREE, age 35, height 5 ft. 5f in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes blue, of smart appearance. A builder; late of Chiswick. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pryke, Southend- on- Sea. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 15.— Cheltenham ( County) — Supervisee DAVID O'HAGAN, Office No. 2477- 02, Case No. 19, 22nd ult., not now wanted. 16.— Bristol ( City).- Yor obtaining 10s. and a quantity of groceries, by a seaman's bogus advance note, 9th and 10th ult.— JAMES MIT- CHELL, alias CAMPBELL and MATTHEWS, age 44, height 5 ft. 5f in., thin face, hair dark brown, moustache light brown, eyes blue, very short- sighted, broad forehead, long thin nose, pointed chin, cut scar over right eyebrow. A marine fireman; native of London. Previously convicted of false pretences at South Shields, Jarrow, Gateshead, Newcastle- on- Tyne, and North Shields. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Bristol. HAMPSHIRE. 17.— Andover ( County). — For stealing a suit of clothes; 1 " Coventry Challenge" bicycle; and £ 3 10s.— ALBERT FRASER, age 21, height 5 ft. 3^ in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, " True love" and pierced heart ( supposed) left arm; dress, blue tweed suit with grey squares ( trousers much too large for him). A native of Liverpool. Is a deserter from the 2nd Bedford Regiment. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bowles, Andover. 18.— Gosport ( County). — For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences at Newtown, between 1st and 9th ult.— HENRY JONES, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion florid, hair and moustache light brown, dimple on chin, no teeth in front; dress, dark double- breasted jacket and vest, pepper and salt colour trousers, and cap, blue and white muffler, brown boots ( patched). Supposed a shoemaker; native of Epsom. Stated he had served in the Rifle Brigade and has 3 medals. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cottle, Gosport. 19.— Lyndhurst ( County).— For stealing, 21st February last, at Milton, a bicycle ( re- covered); 1 pair brown boots, size 8; and £ 10— FRED LUPTON, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., hair very light, complexion pale, thin face, clean shaved; dress, overcoat, dark suit of clothes, black bowler hat, button or the stolen boots. Has been employed at hotels and may seek similar employment. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Wakeford, Lyndhurst. HER TFORDSHIRE. 20.— Ware ( County).— For embezzling 3s. at Hoddesdon. 28th January last— JOSEPH MOR- DECAI, alias NORTON and J. MORRIS, Office No. 71- 05, Case No. 91, 22nd ult. ( ILLUSTRATED CIRCULAR No. 76, Figure 18), age 31, height 5 ft. 10J in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes hazel; scar back left hand; dress, grey overcoat and cap, check jacket and trousers. Repre- sents to small tradesmen that he is a debt collec- tor, and on being engaged collects money if pos- sible, but fails to pay over same. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Duke, Ware. HUN TINGDONSHIRE. 21.— Stanground ( County).— For obtain- ing 16s. 6d., by false pretences, at Fletton, 26th ult. — W. II. SMITH ( supposed false), age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., moustache ( waxed at ends) light brown, impediment in speech; wearing brown overcoat and cap. He called on small shopkeepers, represented himself as a photographer's canvasser, and stated that o^ ing to slackness of trade his employer was reducing his prioe for photographs. Had several price lists in his possession. ( Is identical with Man, described in Case No. 35, 1st inst.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Wilson, Stanground, Peterborough. KENT. 22.— Canterbury ( County). — For obtain- ing £ 13 by false cheques— SIDNEY CHARLES MANSFORD, age about 30, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes light blue, large fleshy lump back of neck, very large feet; dress, grey mixture Norfolk jacket and knickers, fancy spotted vest, small sailor knot tie, mixture cap. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jacobs, Canterbury. 23.— West Mailing ( County).— For ob- taining food and lodgings by false pretences, at Wrotham, 4th ult.— EMMA BARBER, alias ALICE FOSTER, age 38 to 40, height about 5 ft., complexion fresh, rather full round face, high forehead, hair and eyes dark, several front teeth missing; dress, dark grey three- quarter length jacket, black skirt, red jersey with large brass buttons, French sailor hat, trimmed green plaid ribbon and grey spotted feathers, fur, black gloves, lace boots. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Ford, West Mailing. 24.— Maidstone ( Borough).— For embezzle- ment, 5th October, 1906— JAMES LOGAN, alias BOND and WARD, age about 50, height 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair brown, whiskers and moustache ginger; dress, bluish suit, overcoat, black hard felt hat. A brush manu- facturer's traveller. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Maidstone. LANCASHIRE. 2b.— Liverpool ( City).— For failing to re- port— Licence- holder WILLIAM JONES, alias RICHARD GOULBOURNE, RICHARD PREECE, WILLIAM ROBINSON, WILLIAM MAY, RICHARD McBRIDE, and RICHARD GOLDBY, Office No. 318- 07, age 78, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top) and eyes grey, slight scar bridge of nose, mole outside left forearm and left upper arm, scar back of left forearm. A horse dealer; native of Droitwich. Sentenced at Liverpool Assizes, 27th November, 1901, to 7 years penal servitude for receiving stolen goods. Licensed 23rd ult. J O b 531. To be dealt with where found. Information to the Head Constable, Liverpool. LINCOLNSHIRE. 26.— Boston ( Borough).— For forgery, 23rd ult. — — ROBERTS, alias APPLEYARD and J. W. ASHTON, age about 26, height about 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fair, hair and moustache light, eyes grey, one front upper tooth missing, slight impediment in speech, suffers from asthma; dress, green tweed suit, light mackintosh with velvet collar, light grey cap, green tie, brown leggings, heavy lace boots, left behind a pair of cuffs, laundry mark " T 389- 10" thereon. A photographer's canvasser. May have in his possession photographs with " C. Hewitt & Co., late Walter Scott, Studio, Chesterfield," thereon. Warrant issued. NORFOLK. 27 — Norwich ( City).- Yor stealing, 7th ult., 2 pairs boots ( I pair recovered) — HENRY BLAKtf, alias WOODS, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in , slight build, sharp features, thin light moustache, impediment in speech, stoops, limps slightly and turns right foot outwards ; wearing dark plaid cap, dark overcoat, red and yellow mixed tie. Has been employed as an enamel letter fixer. Information to the Chief Constable, Norwich. NOR THA MP TONS HIRE. 28. — Kettering ( County).— For obtaining 15s., by false pretences, 25th ult.— CAN THOMAS ROBBERTS, age about 30, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, long thin face, hair and moustache brown, complexion pale; dress, fawn colour covert coat, dark trousers, light cap. He calls upon small shopkeepers, states that he represents tea merchants of Nottingham, distributes bills, and gives printed receipts; he sells tea at 3s. per half pound, under the pretence that the first 5 purchasers would receive £ 1 each from the firm. I in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, tomb stone and cross, " In loving memory of my dear Sister" right forearm, Prince of Wales's feathers, and woman's head left forearm; dress, dark grey suit and cap. A native of Battersea. Has served in the Army. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office. New Scotland Yard, S. W. YORKSHIRE ( West Riding). 30.— Dewsbury ( County}.— For obtaining £ 200 by false pretences, at Morlev, 6th ult.— JOHN ' J. RICHARDSON, alias JOHN LAW- TON, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., com- plexion fresh, hair brown, moustache ( waxed at ends) light, cross flags, and head of Queen Victoria one arm, " Faith, Hope, and Charity" on other; dress, dark coat and vest, light trousers, brown leggings and boots, wears gold ring, set dark stone on right little finger. Had in his possession a pair of gold spectacles. ( See Case No. 49, lst inst.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Midgley, Dewsbury. HAMPSHIRE. 31.- Woolston ( County).— For forging a cheque for £ 110, with intent to defraud, at East- leigh, 18th October, 1906— WILLIAM HENRY WARR, age 44, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., square shoulders, complexion sallow, hair and eyes brown, pointed beard light brown, carries his head for- ward, bad front teeth, appearance of a French- man; dress, black coat and vest, dark trousers, grey overcoat, black Alpine hat. A schoolmaster; native of Southampton. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Davis, Woolston.
