Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted l » an* issue of the POLIOB GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to os taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if tufUcient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person rsiponsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must b* clearly stated. Portrait! of persons whose apprehension it sought for serious offences, and tngravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, Md of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is tsrpi or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from St. to 10 » . A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost at tngraving sketches. TIOBTS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an offlit? of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged b| f counties. 8. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension tr recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to ths number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be receitsi not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the papsr only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. UNDER the existing arrajigements the finger hnprsseions will be taken, and recorded at the Finger Print Department, Convict Supervision Office, New Scotland Y" ard, of all persons convicted as follows: — ( a) All persons coming within Section 5, 7, or 8 of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871. (• i) All persons, at Assizes or Quarter Sessions, sentenced to not less than one month's im- prisonment, without option of a fine, for any of the offences shown below. ( c) All persons, at Petty Sessional, Police, or Stipendary Magistrate's Court, sentenced to more than one month's imprisonment, with- out option of a fine, for any of the following offences: — Aliens ( Sec. 3 Aliens Act of 1905). Arson. Assaults with intent to rob. Attempted burglary. Attempted larceny. Attempts to break into churches, houses, shops, warehouses, & c. Attempts to obtain goods and money by false pretences. In order to avoid the retention of useless records in the Finger Print Department, the Registrar of Habitual Criminals would be glad if the Chief Constables of Counties, Cities, and Boroughs, will, vn future, notify the death of any criminal who has been finger- printed. The notification should contain the full name and aliases, particulars of conviction, or con- victions if possible, also the No. published in the list of Habitual Criminals. BERKSHIRE. 4.— Reading ( County).— For stealing, 18th ult., a gold watch chain ; 1 paste gold safety pin, horse shoe and fox's head in centre; and £ 1— A MAN, age about 20, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion very pale, hair black; dress, dark suit, large peak cap, button boots. He applied for work at the stables at Streatly. ( See Case No. 87 current issue.) Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, County Police Office, Reading. 5.— Wokingham ( County).— For obtain- ing 18s. 6d., bv false pretences — WILLIAM REEVES, alias WILLIAMS and KING, age 46, height 5 ft. 9£ in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, scar back right hand, mole on cheek and right of chin, second left toe has been fractured; usually wears jacket suit, leggings, and cap or hard felt hat, and overcoat. He defrauds small shopkeepers by obtaining payment in ad- vance for potatoes, eggs, apples, rabbits, etc. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Warrant issued. 20.— Cardiff ( City}.— For falsification of accounts— ARTHUR ALLAN, age about 25, height 5 ft. 5 in., rather stout build, complexion florid, hair black, slight eyebrows light, eyes ( small) dark, addicted to drink; dress, blue over- coat, suit with light stripes, may be wearing a fancy vest, black bowler hat, lace boots. An engine driver; native of Cheltenham. Has served in the King's Royal Rifle Corps and Royal Horse Artillery. Pre- viously convicted at Portsmouth and " Worcester. A marine fireman; native of London. Previously convicted of false pretences at South Shields, Jarrow^ Gateshead, Newcastle- on- Tyne, and North Shields. Warrant issued. HAMPSHIRE. 25.— Gosport ( County). — For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences at Newtown, between 1st and 9th ult.— HENRY JONES, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion florid, hair and moustache light brown, dimple on chin, no teeth in front; dress, dark double- breasted jacket and vest, pepper and salt colour trousers, and cap, blue and white muffler, brown boots ( patched). Supposed a shoemaker; native of Epsom. Stated he had served in the Rifle Brigade and has 3 medals. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. A native of Pokesdown. May assume the name of Sidney Wilkins and be accompanied by a Man, age 27, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, hair and eyes brown, anchor left arm. Warrant issued. MORRIS, Office No. 71- 05, Case No. 91, 22nd ult. ( ILLUSTRATED CIRCULAR NO. 76, Figure 18), age 31, height 5 ft. 10J in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes hazel; scar back left hand; dress, grey overcoat and cap, check jacket and trousers. A publican; native of Maidstone. Was accompanied by a Woman, age about 40, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., rather stout build, complexion fair, hair light, rather red face. Warrant issued. 30.— Maidstone ( Borough).— For embezzle- ment, 5th October, 1906— JAMES LOGAN, alias BOND and WARD, age about 50, height 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair brown, whiskers and moustache ginger; dress, bluish suit, overcoat, black hard felt hat. Trench," on back; also for obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences at Oakengates — THOMAS JAMES MOORE, alias THOMAS GIBSON and TALBOT JOHN MEDLEY, age 24, height 5 ft. 11£ in., complexion sallow, erect bearing, hair and mous- tache ( pointed at ends) dark; dress, dark grey mixture coat, navy blue vest and trousers, brown leggings, well educated. The first described man entered a shop, asked' to be shown brooches, < fec., price about 50 dollars, selected on approval a brooch and ring at a moderate price, for which he paid on the understanding that should he not require both articles and return one of them the following day the money be refunded; also requested that the tickets be not detached from either. The second man subsequently entered, and under the pre- tence of making a purchase, substituted in trays the brooch and ring referred to for those stolen.
