THE EDITOR requests that Chief Officers of Police, when forwarding for identification by the Metropolitan Police the Photographs and descrip- tive forms of Persons in custody, will please see that the specific offence is stated, e. g.:— Stealing £ 1,000 from bank; stealing pair of boots from shop door ; stealing bale of silk, van unattended, & c., & c. This may often prove a ready means of recognition, and Judges have recently complained of the absence of such particulars in dealing with previous convictions. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. May be found working at brickyards or as a cab driver. Is known to Police at Black- pool and Todmorden. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Bedford. BERKSHIRE. 1 — A bin g don ( County)— For sending offensive and indecent postal packet*— FRED- ERICK MURRAY BROWNE, age 50 ( looki older), height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion sallow, hair, moustache, beard, and eyes grey, varicose vein* left leg, cut scar left thumb; dress, dark tweed jacket suit, brown soft felt hat. An artist. Holds strong views on religious and educational matter*. Has been convicted in Essex, also confined in several lunatic asylums. Warrant issued. 8.— Abingdon ( County) — For housebreak- ing, 28th ult.— Expiree EDWARD GOLDER, alias GOULDER, Office No. 3072- 01 ( Case No. 5, 14th inst.), age 32, height 5 ft. 5i in., com plexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, hand and heart back right hand, " LIZZIE" back left hand, pierced heart and " E. T. W. E." back left wrist, E L & A C " right, cross flags, anchor, cross, and EMILY, HERRING " left forearm; wearing old blue jacket, grey tweed cap with large peak, and muffler. Hawks boot laces, songs, & c., and stays at common lodging houses. A brushmaker; native of Kingston- on- Thames. Sen- tenced at Oxford City Sessions, 10th January, 1906, to 9 months hard labour for shopbreaking. Liberated on remission, 17th September, 1906. Has also been convicted at Kingston, Hampton, Arundel, and at Surrey Sessions and Assizes. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. JACKSON, age 24 or 25, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., thick set, complexion fresh, rather square face, slight moustache, small scar on left cheek, rough voice; dress, blue serge jacket suit, narrow silk tie, light lace boots. Carried a small green tin trunk, handle on top. She sold a dry polishing powder, which she represented as Carter's patent, but was after- wards found to be coloured sand. Warrant issued. Okell, Altrincham. 12.— Hire WO ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, 17tli inst., a brown mackintosh— WILLIAM PRESTON, age about 25, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion sallow, hair ( curly in front) black, moustache dark, tattoo marks both arms; dress, dark suit, light cap, lace boots, nails in soles form initials " W. P.," kid gloves. A shoemaker; native of Stafford. Stated he had obtained em- ployment at the Co- operative Stores. Had with him a small black bag, containing tools. Information to Supt. Pearson, Crewe. 13.— Stockport ( Borough).— For stealing 8s. from a boy, 10th inst. — GEORGE MASON, alias WALTER READ and STEAD- MAN, Office No. 2664- 02, age 39, height 5 ft. 3i in., complexion fresh, oval face, hair and moustache brown, eyes hazel; dress, grey suit, cap, lace boots. A labourer; native of Man chester. Stays at common lodging houses. He usually stops children on errands, or returning from workshops, and on the pretence of sending them for a parcel for him, takes money from them and absconds. Information to the Chief Constable, Stockport. ESSEX. 14.— Braintree ( County).— For obtaining, bv false pretences, 13th inst., 2 pairs of lace curtains— A WOMAN, age about 23, height about 5 ft. 5 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair brown; dress, brown or grey jacket, tight fitting, brown flat felt hat, brown fur necklet, dark skirt. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Terry, Braintree. Ib.— Southend- on- Sea { bounty).— For stealing, 10th inst., a bicycle ( recovered), and a postal order for 14s.-^ IAMES WILLIAM BALDWIN, alias FREDERICK MILES, age about 21, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion sallow, long thin face, hair brown, eyes grey, teeth de- cayed ; dress, light mixture tweed jacket suit, black silk neckerchief, cap, lace boots, wearing the South African War medal ribbon. Represented that he was employed as a railway porter; sunpcxsed a native of West Ham. Is a deserter from the Army. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pryke, Southend. GL OUGES TERSHIRE. 16.— Staple Hill ( County).— For escaping from Kingswood Reformatory— ALFRED MARI- GOLD, age 17, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown, small mole left shoulder; wearing reformatory - uniform.— CHARLES ERNEST GORDON JONES, age 18, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown, mole on chest. His uniform has since been found. Both natives of London. Warrants issued. Information to Supt. Cooke, Staple Hill. 17. — Stroud ( County).— For stealing a silver English lever watch ( old verge principle), " H. Samuel, Manchester," on dial, outer case missing, steel chain with foreign coin on end, attached— A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 9 in., rather round shoulders, complexion pale, thin face, hair and heavy moustache light brown, eyes supposed grev or blue, one forefinger has been injured, ad- dicted to drink; dress, dark jacket and vest, light cord trousers, light muffler with black stripes, dark can ( burnt at top), light lace boots, wore a leather belt with a piece of brass ( heart shape) on front. A labourer; stated he had been employed with Barnum and Bailey's Show, but was working with a threshing machine in this District. Information to Supt. Bi^ gs, Stroud. 18.— Bristol ( City .— For absconding with £ 500, after having being adjudicated a bankrupt — SAMUEL LEWIS, a Russian Jew, age about 40, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., thick set, complexion sallow, hair ( curly) and moustache dark brown or black, bald on top of head, greenish- blue eyes; usually wears light clothes. Speaks English moderately. A glazier, has also dealt in jewellerv for several years. He became a naturalised British subject in August last, and had his papers with him. Last heard of at Blackpool, and will no doubt leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bristol. HAMPSHIRE. 19.— Andover ( County').— For stealing £ 5 14s.; a dark pepper and salt colour suit, " Shuttle, O. M., 16/ 06" stamped inside top of trousers; and a pair of patent leather boots, with kid tops, size 9— RICHARD BROWN, age 18J, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes blue, scar outside left forearm, 2 back of neck, splay feet. Is a deserter from the 2nd Bedfordshire Regiment. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bowles, Andorer. 20.— PortsmOU h ( Borough).— For ware- housebreaking— HARRY DEAN, alias WIL- LIAMS, age 22, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes hazel, hi" h cheek bones, scars on face and head, Queen Victoria tattooed centre of chest, bird on each shoulder; dress, dark blue jacket and vest, grey trousers and cap, black silk neckerchief. A native of Manchester. Has served in the Navy. Information to the Chief Constable, Portsmouth. 21.— Southampton ( Borough).— For steal- ing oil paintings ( recovered)— GEORGE WIL- SON, alias WILLIAMS and MONCRIES, age 42, height 5 ft. 8i in., complexion ruddy, hair and rather heavy moustache dark brown, Roman nose, tattooed imitation bangle round wrist, well spoken and very talkative; dress, blue diagonal suit, black silk neckerchief, guernsey, blue peak cap, brown canvas leggings under trousers. Information to the Chief Constable, Southamp- ton. KENT. 22.— Chatham ( County).— For failing to report— Licence- holder THOMAS FORD, alias WILLIAM HOLT, Office No. 992- 01, age, 36, height 5 ft. 5i in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes grey, cross flags, crown, " VR " right, basket of flowers, rose, and leaves left forearm, woman's head back left hand; dress, reefer jacket, dark trousers, P. & O. cap. A fireman; native of Sittingbourne. Sentenced at Chelmsford Assizes, 11th November, 1902, to 5 years penal servitude for burglary. Licenced 10th November, 1906. c 558. To be dealt with where found. Rhodes, Chatham. 23.— Seabrook ( County).— hor stealing, 11th inst., a diamond stud in a gold claw; 3 gold studs with red coral centres, milled edges; 1 pin, fancy blue stone and small diamonds— GEORGE PAYNE, age 191, height 5 ft, 4i in., complexion fresh, hair light, eyes blue; dress, grey suit, dark grev overcoat, Wellington boots. A native of Hull. Is a deserter from the East York Regiment. Information to Supt. Hollands, Seabrook. 24.— Gravesend ( Borough).- For stealing from his lodgings, 15th inst., a lady's gold dress ring, set diamond, chased each side; 1 gold ring, initials " W. S. K." engraved thereon— JOHN QUIGLEY, age 32, height 5 ft, 5 in., slight build, hair inclined to ginger, Scotch accent; dress, dark navy blue suit, silk wrapper, cap. A ship's carpenter. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Gravesend. LANCASHIRE. 25.— LiverpOOl ( City).— For obtaining goods by false pretences, 29th ult.— H. OLIVER WILLIS ( supposed false), age about 30, height about 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion very florid, hair dark, clean shaved; wearing dark clothes and hard hat. He ordered goods from a shop, and in payment gave a chequ « . No. on the Manchester and County Bank, Ltd., from a cheque book, stolen from Manchester, where he is also wanted. Warrant issued. For embezzlement— FREDERICK WRIGHT, age 27, height 5 ft. 4 in., slight build, complexion sallow, clean shaved; dress, grey suit, hard felt hat. A traveller. Absconded 7th ult. Warrant issued. 26.— Liverpool ( City).—¥ or stealing, 1st inst., from his lodgings, a rolled gold keyless Waltham lever hunter watch, No. 10479544, 1 9 ct. graduated curb chain, swivel seal, attached— A MAN, who gave the name of JOHNS, age about 25, short, stiff build, hair light brown, moustache ( small) sandy, round face; drees, brown tweed double- breasted jacket suit, soft white collar, dark cap, heavy brown shooting boots. A native of Birmingham. 27.— Liverpool ( City). — For neglecting to notify his change of address— Licence- holder WILLIAM HALL, alias THOMAS HALE, HENRY HALL, HENRY HARRISON, WIL- LIAM HARRISON, and HENRY LOGAN, Office No. 2844- 01, age 52, height 5 ft. 4| in., complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top, turning grev'i and eyes brown, mole top of each arm, near shoulder, several white scars on left shin, scar centre of back. A fitter; native of Walton, Lancashire. Sentenced at Liverpool Assizes, 25th July, 1904, to 3 years penal servitude for utter- ing an order for the payment of money with intent to defraud. Licensed 6th December, 1906. Nee 125. To be dealt with where found. Information to the Head Constable, Criminal Investigation Department, Liverpool. 28.— Bolton ( Bwough).— For stealing £ 5 by trick, 22nd September last— FRED WALTERS, alias FREDERICK WILLIAM BRITNELL, HENRY SMITH, JOHN LUCAS, and FRANK B1RTNELL, age 39, height 5 ft, 6 in., comolexion fresh, hair dark bro. wn, eyes blue, scar right of forehead and cheek, base of right thumb and over left eye, several dots on shoulder blade. A painter or shoemaker; native of Staffordshire. He called at a shop, stated he had been sent by a neighbouring tradesman for change, and would return with a £ 5 note. Previously convicted of larceny and fraud. Sentenced at North London Sessions, 7th March, 1905, to 21 months imprison- ment for larceny. Information to the Chief Constable, Bolton. 29. — Burnley ( Borough). — For obtaining money by false pretences during November—- Licence- holder SIDNEY C. BARRATT, aha* SIDNEY CLAUDE WARRINGTON BARRETT, Office No. 2219- 02 ( Case No. 46, 31st August, 1906), age 24, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair black, moustache and eyes dark; dress, grey overcoat and suit, light straw hat or motor cap, brown leather leggings, fastened with straps, brown lace boots, diamond ring on right little finger, gold or imitation gold Albert, fine link pattern, small book shape pendant, con- taining 2 photographs, attached. He takes an affice and shop, issues bills, stating he is about to open the premises as a provision merchant, also has bills printed, showing that he intends to start a Christmas club, for which he collects money from persons, and decamps. Was accompanied by A WOMAN, age 24, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion dark, freckled face, hair dark brown, eyes blue, bad teeth; dress, navy blue costume, white felt hat. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Burnley. LINCOLNSHIRE. 30 — Grimsby ( Borough).— For stealing, between 3rd October and 21st ult., from unoccupied houses, a quantity of brass fittings, &<•. ( mostly recovered)— Supervisee JOHN THOMAS WILLIAMS, alias THOMAS ROBERTS and THOMAS MOORE, Office No. 884- 00, Case No. 96, 26th October, 1906, age 55, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) brown, eyes blue, scar on nose, left cheek, and left eyebrow, rinc 2nd left finger, slightly lame, very talkative; dress, light jacket and vest, dark trousers, billy- cock hat or cap, lace boots. A painter; native of Nottingham. Stays at common lodging houses and appears well acquainted with Leeds, Bradford, Halifax, and other Yorkshire towns. He breaks into houses, from which people are removing, steals gas fittings or articles of furniture, and disposes of them at private houses, informing purchasers that he has been assisting in a removal and the articles had been given him. Warrant issued. 3 . — Grimsby ( Borough). — For stealing ( bailee), between 30th October and 7th ult., a brown Newmarket overcoat, noarly new; 1 light dust overcoat, 2 pairs dungaree trousers— JOHN WILSON, alias WILLIAMSON and WARD, age 27, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., stout build, complexion fair, full round face, large head, hair ( curly) light, moustache ginger, " Marv" tattooed on back of right hand, cut scar left wrist; dress, brown jacket and vest, blue dungaree trousers, old brownish cap, dark muffler, and the stolen overcoat. A fireman. He came from Hull several months ago, and has since been gathering rags and bones. Absconded 7th inst. Accompanied by a Woman. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Grimsby. MERIONE THSHIRE. 32. - Bala ( County). — For obtaining £ 1 12s. 6d. by false pretences, at Llandrillo, 13th inst. — R. WILLIAMS ( supposed false), age about 55, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., rather stout build, com- plexion fresh, moustache and whiskers ( closely cronped) sandy ( turning grey), eyes blue; dress, light mixture rough tweed overcoat, dark trousers, maroon or reddish brown tie, brown soft felt hat, light boots, wears a gold ring with square top. He represented himself as a specialist, examined a person's eyes, gave her a pair of glasses in white celluloid case, " A present from Llanfair " there- on, promised to send some lotion, obtained the above amount, and gave a receipt for same with " R, Williams, 120 Clayton Square, Birkenhead,'' thereon. An agent; native of Kent. On 8th inst. he called at the residence of a banker, and by falsely representng himself to be a Police Officer, obtained £ 10. Sentenced at Central Criminal Court, 25th July, 1904, to 3 years penal servitude for forging an order for thr payment of money. Licensed 25th October, 1906. e 395.
