Well educated, gentlemanly appear- ance, very plausible, and greatly addicted to drink. Was at one time a lieutenant in a Militia Regiment. 4. Railway platform luggage thief and pickpocket, also " worked" with No. 6 in stealing from jeweller's shop. OS N L \ S Noting advertisements of cycles for sale, calls on owners with a view to inspect, notes where the machines are stored, then, if the place is easy of access, returns at night and steals them. Also steals from the person and from lodgings. 6. Obtains cycles by posing as a cycle dealer. Takrs apartments at hotels, obtaining credit by false pretences, and steals jewellery, etc., from adjoining rooms. 15. Travelling swindler, who obtains goods, money and board and lodgings by representing that he is in the employment of a local firm < f repute. Calls at private houses with a plausible tg, le of temporary dis- tress, and asks assistance. Advertises for lady companion and amanuensis to elderly gentle- men asks applicants for " regis- tration fee," upon receipt of which no more notice is taken. Obtains typewriters on hire - purchase system and sells them. Also rents furnished houses, pawns the plate, & c., and decamps. 29. Clever pickpocket who fre- quents busy thoroughfares, tram termini, baths and seaside resorts. Hiring a bathing- machine, at a favourable opportunity enters adjoining one and steals there- from.
