XXIII., No. 2392 JET JEt Q- XJ JL All communications for insertion in the POLICI GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THI EDITOH OP THE POLICE SAIITTI, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted fa one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to hi taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person ritponsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. Ptrtraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and tngravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, • n « i of 6j. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from it. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost * f engraving sketches. Ifiry announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of ptlice, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the last may be. OKS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an offietr of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged b » counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to tht number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual formj and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, Xew Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. Supposed a native of Southend. Warrant issued. 5.— M Division.— For stealing £ 1 ( by trick)— GEORGE CLARKE, age 20 to 25, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion, hair, and eyes dark, clean shaved, very plausible; dress, dark grey cycling suit. He called on the principal of a cookery centre in London, represented that he was travelling for a similar Institution at Portsmouth, stated his bicycle had been stolen, and obtained the above amount for the purpose of paying his railway fare. 6. — N Division.— For stealing £ 30— JOSEPH DELLAUVE, alias HART, age 34, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion pale, hair light brown, eyes blue; dress, dark jacket and vest, with white stripes, grey mixture trousers, light blue tie, black hard felt hat. A native of Belgium. Ab- sconded 21st inst. 7.— R Division.— For embezzling £ 24 4s. 11., 22nd inst.— WALTER MARSHALL, age 42, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion pale, hair ( bald on top) dark brown, eyes brown, twitches his lower lip when in conversation, addicted to drink; dress, dark jacket and vest, light trousers, dark tie, hard felt hat. A traveller: native of Dalston, London. Has been convicted at Wednesbury and Essex Quarter Sessions of similar offences. Re- presented that he was employed by a credit draper as canvasser, thereby obtained deposits. Warrant issued. 9.— Y Division.— For stealing 2 18 ct. gold rings ( 1 set 3 opals and 4 diamonds alternately; 1 set sapphire, surrounded with small diamonds)— HENRY WARNER or DYSON, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., thick set, complexion, hair, and eyes dark, clean shaved, of Jewish appearance; dress, dark tweed suit, lace boots, mav be wearing an alpaca jacket. CA MBRIDGESHIRE. 10.— Cambridge ( County).— — BART- LETT, wanted for stealing cob, harness, and cart ( recovered), Case No. 66, 23rd inst., is identical with Expiree William Creesy, alias John Rose, Office No. 814- 99, age 45, height 5 ft. 3 in., com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, red mole upper right eyelid, wart right and mole left of neck, indistinct ring third left finger. A groom; native of Framsden, Suffolk. Has been convicted at Essex Assizes, Ipswich, and Oxford. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Cambridge. BENYON, age about 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., oval face, hair black ( turning grey), mous- tache ( heavy) dark brown; dress, blue serge suit or dark clothes, bowler hat. He takes lodgings, ad- vertises farm produce, & c., for sale in the Farm, Field, Feathered World, & c., receives remittances from intending purchasers, and decamps. Sup- posed wanted elsewhere. GLAMORGANSHIRE, lb.— Merthyr fydvil ( C) uniy).— h or fail- ing to report— Licence- holder DAVID DAVIES, Office No. 485- 98, age 31, height 5 ft. 3f in., com- plexion fresh, hair ( thin on top) brown, eyes hazel, scar over and under left eye, and under lower lip, 1 bracelet right, 2 left wrist, anchor back right, 2 crosses back left hand, ring 2nd, 3rd, and 4th right, and 3rd and 4th left fingers. A collier; native of Merthyr Tydvil. Sentenced at Swansea Assizes, 14th November, 1898, to 10 years penal servitude for burglary. Licensed 9th May, 1906. V Y 362. To be dealt with where found. Information to Supt. Gill, Merthyr Tydvil. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 16.— Bristol ( City).— For stealing £ 12 from his lodgings— HARRY A. YORKE, age aboui 28, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, haii light brown, believed clean shaved, 2 front teeth and one left side of jaw very prominent, North Country accent; dress, dark grey jacket, black vest, double- breasted, grey striped trousers, grey tie anc cap, boots with very pointed toes, nearly new, wearing a gold snake pattern ring on one middle finger, lady's pearl dress ring on little finger of same hand. He took lodgings, 23rd ult., stated he was junior partner of the firm of Nicholson, Greaves & Yorke, Leeds. Usually stays at small commercial hotels or restaurants. ( See Case No. 24, 9th inst.) HAMPSHIRE. 17 — Bournemouth ( County).— Vox fail- ing to surrender to his bail at Bournemouth Quarter Sessions, 23i- d ult., charged with obtain- ing a bicycle and accessories bv false pretences— ALEXANDER ELPHINSTON, age 26, height 6 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair sandy, eyes right blue, left brown, scar left arm, right shoulder, abdomen, inside right fhigh, and back of left hand. May have in his possession visiting cards, " Capt. A. Elphinston, 3rd King's Own, Cranemoor House, Highcliffe," or " Hinton, Admiral," thereon. ( See Case No. 22, 9th inst.) Warrant issued. Hack, Bournemouth. 18.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For failing to surrender to his recognizances at Quarter Ses- sions, 19th ult., on a charge of larceny— JAMES MCLAUGHLIN, alias MCDUFF AND JOHN ROAN, age 26, height 5 ft. 3| in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue. A labourer; native of Cumberland. Has been convicted at Manches- ter of shopbreaking, larceny, & c. Warrant issued. 19.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For obtain- ing £ 4 by fraud, 4th inst.— A MAN, who poses as the MARQUIS OF ZETLA, age about 35, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion florid, hair black, eyes brown, appearance of a foreigner; wearing long dark overcoat with gold lace round cuffs, yachting cap with peak and gold lace, black tie. He repre- sented himself to be a Spanish naval officer, ob- tained an interview with the commanding officer at Naval Barracks, stated that another officer on board his ship was ill, requested that he may be admitted to the Naval Hospital, and under pretext of having no English money, obtained the above amount and decamped. Supposed to have perpe- trated similar frauds at other naval towns. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Portsmouth. HEREFORDSHIRE. 20. - Hereford ( City).— For obtaining £ 2 by false pretences, 9th inst.— CHARLES W. WATSON, age 42, height 5 ft. 11 in., hair dark ( turning grey), large moustache; wearing black coat and vest, dark trousers, black and white silk muffler. Was accompanied by A WOMAN, age about 28, height about 5 ft., complexion pale, hair dark; dress, dark three- quarter length jacket, blue blouse, black skirt, dark sailor hat, trimmed chiffon; A GIRL, age 4, short dark hair; wearing blue skirt, black sateen bodice, red cape; and A BOY, age 2; wearing dark frock and white shawl. He answered from Wigan an advertisement in the Focus for a camera, offering one complete for £ 2, this amount was forwarded to him on 8th inst., but he failed to send the camera. When taking lodgings at Wigan he stated he was about to com- mence business as a photographer. Absconded 9th inst.; the woman and children left the following day. Warrant issued. Rhodes, Chatham. 26.— West Mailing ( County).— For ob- taining, 17th inst., by a forged cheque, a light brown cart horse, 16| hands, legs, stripe down face, and scar on back, white, near hing leg swollen, large scar on off shoulder— A MAN ( sup- posed JAMES BETRIDGE), age about 40, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., stout build, complexion and heavy moustache dark; dress, dark suit ( tight fitting trousers), black hard felt hat, flat top, light lace boots. A horse dealer. Warrant issued. 24.— West Mailing ( County). - For desert- ing his wife and 3 children — CHARLES ARTHUR SPOONER, age 56, height 5 ft. 10 or II in., complexion sallow, hair fair, " beard and moustache ( turning grey) ginger, eyes hazel, turns his feet ouwards and walks on heels; dress, dark clothes and cap, wide tie, light lace boots. A gardener. Warrant issued. 25.— West Mailing ( County).— On com- mitment warrant for non- payment of £ 5 10s., fine and costs imposed for obstructing Police— WIL- LIAM BRIGHT, age 61, height 5 ft. 9 in., com- plexion pale, clean shaved, hair ( turning grey, slightly bald on top) brown, eyes grey; dress, grey jacket ( large pockets), fine cord vest and trousers, colour silk neckerchief, cap, heavy lace boots. Hoare, West Mailing. 26.— Gravesend ( Bo/ ougn).— For obtain- ing £ 4 by false pretences, 19th inst.— A MAN, who gave the name of THE MARQUIS OF LAN- TIDE, & c., age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion and hair dark, clean shaved, dirty teeth, of foreign appearance; wearing long brown overcoat, with thin red stripe, badge, V shape, on each cuff, yachting cap, with 2 red flags and white ball in centre. Was accompanied by A WOMAN, age about 20, height 5 ft. 6 in., full round face; wearing long grey coat, and motor cap to match. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 27.— Gravesend ( Borough).— For stealing, 6th inst., a brown and white pony, 13 hands, long mane and tail, rough coat, flat feet, in poor con- dition ; a costermonger's half cart, painted brown, wheels red, picked out black, tailboard rail broken, " R. King" painted on right side; and an old black set of harness, silver mounted— Licence- holder ALFRED MAYHEW, alias WATKINS, SHARP, WATSON, SAUNDERS, PEARCE, and BOB PAYNE, Office No. 561- 00 ( Case No. 4, 14th September, 1906, Tabular Form 5th ult., and ILLUSTRATED CIRCULAR NO. 70, Figure 13). NOR THA MPTONSHIRE. 30. — Daventry ( County). — For stealing, 12th inst., an old dark wooden perambulator, blue and yellow lined, brass fittings; 1 white toilet cover; 1 brown three- quarter length overcoat; 1 blue colour cup and saucer— WILLIAM HEATH, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair dark, clean shaved, tattooed both arms; dress, grey jacket and vest, brown cord trousers, dark cap. lace boots. Is a Reservist of the Roval Horse Artillery.— ADA HEATH, age about 30, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown; dress, black jacket and skirt, blue bodice, blue hat with cream colour lace, white silk necker- chief.
