LT ION S. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an ofjvc.*\ of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear o number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to th » number of the announcement. for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. UNDER the existing arrangements the finger impressions will be taken, and recorded at the Finger Print Department, Convict Supervision Office, New Scotland Yard, of all persons convicted as follows: — ( « ) All persons coming within Section 5, 7, or 8 of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871. ( b) All persons, at Assizes or Quarter Sessions, sentenced to not less than one month's im- prisonment, without option of a fine, for any of the ollences shown below. ( c) All persons, at Petty Sessional, Police, or Stipendary Magistrate's Court, sentenced to more than one month's imprisonment, with- out option of a fine, for any of the following offences: — Aliens ( Sec. 3 Aliens Act of 1905). In order to avoid the retention of useless records in the Finger Print Department, the Registrar of Habitual Criminals would be glad if the Chief Constables of Counties, Cities, and Boroughs, will, in future, notify the death of any criminal who has been finger- printed. A native of Forest Hill, London. Until recently she kept a sub- Post Office at Basingstoke, in name of Sendell, and may assume that name. Warrant issued. 14. — Reading ( Borough). — For stealing from his lodgings, 21st ult., a watch chain and pendant ( recovered)— H. MUNRO, age 33, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion dark, clean shaved, of good address; dress, brown check jacket and vest, slate colour trousers, appearance of a mechanic. He represented that he was working for the Edison Patent Switch Co., London. He left behind a " New Hudson " bicycle, No. B 66869, enamelled black, 24 in. frame, short head, wide handle bars, slightly turned down inverted brakes, black and white celluloid grips, rat trap pedals, black vulcan lamp, Lycett saddle, No. 349814, transfer, " Sold by Lloyd Partridge & Co., St. Albans," on lower bar, saddle bag, containing spanners, attached. Summers, High Wycombe. 16 — Fenny Stratford ( County).— For stealing old lead ( recovered)— WALTER JAMES, age about 35, height about 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, complexion fair, hair and moustache light, stutters slightly, top of right thumb missing; dress, brown jacket, vest, and cord trousers, cap. A native of Bletchley. Has been recently working as brick- layer's labourer on railway works at Derbyshire, in name of William Jones. Warrant issued. 17.— Fenny Stratford ( County).— For failing to report— Supervisee ALEXANDER SUMMERFIELD, Office No. 1439- D6, age 41, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) brown, eyes blue, scar corner right eyebrow. A shoelaster; native of Northampton. Sentenced at Northampton County Quarter Sessions, 19th October, 1905, to 12 months hard labour and 3 years supervision for larceny. He took lodgings for himself and 2 others, stated he was engaged laying telephone wires, and during the temporary absence of the landlady, committed the larceny and decamped. DENBIGHSHIRE. 19. — Denbigh ' » */</ « .— For shopbreaking and stealing a quantity of clothing ( mostly re- covered")— JAMES BRADY, alias BRETTLE and BENNETT, age 23, height 5 ft, 4 or 5 in., com- plexion fresh, round features, hair brown, eyes grey, clasped hands and " True love" tattooed on one wrist; dress, dark coat aand vest, black and brown check trousers, black hard felt hat, lace boots. Has been several times convicted of steal- ing bicycles, and was sentenced to 6 months im- prisonment at Preston for a similar offence. Liberated about 3rd October last. Warrant issued. DURHAM. 20.- Durham ( City). — F or neglecting to maintain his wife and 3 children, whereby they became chargeable to the Durham Union— ALBERT MARSTON, age about 36, height 5 ft, in., complexion fair, sharp features, hair dark brown, eyes blue. A native of Ryhope. Was em- ployed in April last as a labourer in a foundry at High Shields, from where he absconded; has since been employed near Morpeth, also as weaver in a carpet factory. Last heard of about 3 months ago in Northumberland, when he stated he was going to Scotland. Warrant issued. 21.— Durham ( City)— For obtaining food and lodgings bv false pretences, 22nd ult.— JOHN HUNTER, alias HOLMES, and THOMAS WATSON, age about 40, height 5 ft. 9 in., com- plexion pale, long thin face, hair ( slightly bald in front) and moustache black ( turning grey), lisps slightly, long thin hands, boil scar under left jaw; dress, black vicuna suit, black hat and tie, lace boots. An engineman. Stated he was employed as a fitter at a colliery. Has been con- victed at Houghton- le- Spring, and is wanted at Gateshead and Northumberland. Id.— JOHN THOMAS BREWIS, age about 25, height 5 ft. 6A in., stout build, com- plexion fair, oval face, hair light, eyes grey; wear- ing blue overcoat, grey check vest. He was en- ploved as cartman and collector by mineral water manufacturers, collected money and absconded. Was previously in a similar situation at Gateshead. Warrant issued. CHESHIRE. 18.— Birkenhead ' County).— For stealing from his lodgings, a watch and chain ( recovered) — A MAN, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 10 in. to 6 ft., complexion fair, hair light brown, slight GLAMORGANSHIRE. 23.— Bridgend ( V" uiup).— For stealing. be- tween 4th and 5th inst., from his lodgings, £ 8 18s. — HARRY SCRUTTEN or SCRATTEN ( correct name supposed HARRY FISHER), age about 34, height 5 ft, 8 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair and moustache light brown, peculiar accent owing to tube in his throat; dress, dark clothes and cap. A native of Suffolk. He is an important witness in a case of manslaughter and talks of same. Has served in the Army. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Davis, Bridgend. 24.— Swansea { Borough).— For warehouse- breaking, and stealing a quantity of flannel goods — Supervisee JOHN CASSIDY, alias CLARKE, NOLAN, and LEE, Office No. 1411- 01 ( Tabular Form, 5th ult.), age 43, height 5 ft. 2f in., com- plexion fresh, hair ( going grey and bald) and mous- tache dark brown eyes ( glaring) dark, scar right cheek; dress, dark coat and vest, cord trousers, dark muffler, dark grey cap. A bricklayer; native of Birmingham. Sentenced at North London Ses- sions, 19th November, 1901, to 4 years penal servi- tude and 3 years supervision for attempted burglary and assault. Liberated on 2nd licence, 27th July, 1906, which expired 25th ult. May be found at common lodging houses or cheap res- taurants. Information to Chief Constable Colquhoun, Swansea. left forearm; dress, brown and green mixture suit, double- breasted vest, drab colour overcoat, light mixture cap, black and white tie. A labourer ; supposed a native of Swansea. Has been employed as a porter for about 3 weeks. He was convicted of stealing a bicycle at Cwmbran, 2nd October, 1905. Warrant issued. HAMPSHIRE. 27.— Fareham ( County).— For embezzling £ 3 19s. 7d., 9th inst.— SIDNEY McMANUS, age about 35, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes ( supposed) grey, walks badly; dress, blue jacket suit and cap, carried an oilskin. A native of Southampton. Has worked in a brick- yard and may seek similar employment.. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. English lever watch, rather large, chased outer case, very old make; 1 gold Albert, short strands and oblong knobs alter- nately, chased, 2 watch keys attached ( 1 set tur- quoise, the other square shape, set with green and red stones); 1 black woollen skirt, lined black silk — ETHEL AULT or HOLT, age 22, height about 5 ft. 4£ in., right shoulder higher than left, com- plexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes brown; dress, black skirt with flounce at bottom, pilot cloth jacket, black sailor hat. A prostitute, may be found sleeping in out- houses, or in company of soldiers; native of St. Paul's, London. 29.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For steal- ing, 22nd ult., from his lodgings, a cash box, containing £ 9 8s. 6d.— HARRY A. YORKE, age about 28, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair and small moustache light, 2 front teeth very prominent; dress, black or dark suit, prominent white stripe running through trousers, greenish grey cap, blue tie, very pointed boots ( nearly new). He poses as the representative of an antique jewel- lery firm of Leeds, usually stops at small private hotels or restaurants, and makes himself very popular. Found in pockets a metal watch; 1 leather purse, brass mountings, containing 2s: 1 metal match box. Appearance of a mariner. Body supposed in water about 2 months. Information to Supt. SUFFOLK ( East). 81.— Halesworth ( County :.— 6th inst., in a pond at Heveningham, the body of A FEMALE CHILD, age 4 to 5 years, length 3 ft. 2 in., slight build, weight 2 stones, hair light brown, blind right eye, from cataract, ankles slightly deformed, legs bent outwards; dress, woman's pink print blouse, with small red flowers and lace on front, pink undervest, white calico drawers with wide lace, old brown petticoat, old black skirt fastened with pins, 2 pieces of cream colour lace, stitched to pieces of lavender colour dress material, were tied tightly around neck. The medical evidence is to the effect that the child was strangled before being put in the water, probably on 5th inst.
