Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted fci one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to b « taken upon them by another force. i. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if lufUcient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. in all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person rtiponsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must b> clearly stated. I. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and tngravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait and of 6s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is targe or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from fit. to 10a. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost •/ engraving sketches. t. Mttry announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if ih » name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force aoainst him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the last may be. IT ION S. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an offirtr of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 0. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to th* number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form? and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, Sew Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Pott Office. 13. A gipsy, travels the country with 2 perambulators. Accompanied by a Woman and 5 Children. Warrant issued. 6.— T Division.— For larceny— GEORGE RUSSELL, age 28, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion florid, oval face, hair ( brushed back) and eyes ( deep set) dark, clean shaved, shiny nose: dress, grey jacket suit, black hard felt hat or cap. He answers advertisements for barmen, produces a steward's discharge from " Lake Erie," after secur- ing a situation he commits larceny and decamps. Usually leaves behind a box containing bricks. 7.— X Division.— For embezzling £.' 0 — HENRY LEESON, age 28, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion tawny, hair dark, eyes dark Brown, prominent nose; dress, dark blue serge jacket suit straw hat, brown lace boots. BERKSHIRE. 8.— Maidenhead { County).— For failing to surrender to his bail at Berkshire Assizes charged with gross indecency with a male person — PERCY ANNING GARDNER, age 30, height 6 ft., complexion fresh, sometimes very pale, hair brown, eyes blue- grey, scar left thumb, has a habit of twitching his fingers, very restless; dress, sup posed black suit or dark flannel striped suit, clerical collar. Davis, Maidenhead. 9. — Reading ( Fo" rr> wh\— For stealing- £ 100, 31st August — LOUISA JOHNS, age 49, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair dark, eyes blue, addicted to drink; dress, grey costume, black hat. A native of Forest Hill, London. Until recently she kept a sub- Post Office at Basingstoke, in name of Sendell, and may assume that name. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Reading. BUCKINGHA MS HIRE. 10. — Chesham ( Cnunty).— For stealing 23rd ult., a bicycle ( recovered) — GEORGE WHITE ( supposed'false), age about 27, height about 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair and mous- tache brown; dress, long fawn colour mackintosh or rainproof coat, black and white fancy vest, with red marks, large buttons, light green tie, dark cap. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Summers, High Wycombe. CHESHIRE. 11— Birkenhead ( County\—¥ or stealing from his lodgings, a watch and chain ( recovered) — A MAN, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 10 in. to 6 ft.., complexion fair, hair light brown, slight moustache light; dress, dark mixture tweed suit, peak cap, light striped tie, lace boots. He took lodgings for himself and 2 others, stated he was engaged laying telephone wires, and during the temporary absence of the landlady, committed the larceny and decamped. Sutherland, Birkenhead. 12.— Stockport ( Bnrtmoh).— For scaling £ 10— HARRY GRANT, age 28, height 5 ft. 8 in., stiff build, complexion fresh, full face, hair light, abscess mark left side of neck, tattoo mark on right thumb; dress, grey striped coat, light trousers, grey cap. A native of Crieff. He has been employed on London and Glasgow Expresses ( East Coast route), is known at St. Pancras Station, London, St. Enoch's Station, Glasgow, and at Crieff.— WIL- LIAM PAIRMAN, alias McKENZIE and CURRIE, age 24, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, dot back of right wrist, lst joint of 2nd right finger missing, tip of right forefinger deformed, cross, heart, and dot left forearm, dot back of left wrist, several dots on left hand ; dress, brown coat and vest, dark trousers, grey cap and muffler. A native of Ashton- under- Lyne. He has been con- victed at Leith, Edinburgh, South Shields, North- allerton, and Leeds. Is a Reservist of the 3rd West Yorks Regiment. Labourers. Warrants issued. County). — For stealing from her lodgings, between 25th and 26th ult., at Clown, a lady's gold keeper ring, buckle pattern; 1 do. black motor cap; 1 pair lady's lace shoes with toe caps; 1 black neck fur; 1 pair black stockings; 1 red silk handkerchief; 1 white pocket handker- chief; 1 black woollen shawl— EMMA DAWSON, age 30 to 35, height about 5 ft., rather stout build, complexion fair, rather small face, hair light brown; dress, light brown or fawn colour three- quarter length jacket, tight fitting, dark skirt, white fur necklet, brown felt hat, lace shoes. A native of Blyth, Notts. Ma^ be found at common lodging houses or low public houses. Warrant issued. 14.— Renishaw ( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences, at Creswell, 19th ult.— TWO MEN ( lst, age about 25, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, complexion dark, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes dark; dress, dark cycling suit, dark cap, brown glace kid boots. 2nd, age about 25, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fair, hair and slight moustache light, eyes blue; dress, grey jacket suit, cap). They travel the country with a camera, take photographs of farm houses, & c., collect monej' on account, give receipts in name of Davis & Co., Thorne Road, Doncaster, and promises to forward the photographs in a few days. DORSETSHIRE. 16.— Poole ( County).— For non- payment of £ 2 19s., maintenance arrears— WILLIAM BUR- ROWS, age 56, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair and beard turning grey, eyes hazel, female tattooed inside right forearm, tree, tent, Ac., muscle of right arm; dress, blue serge suit, yachting cap. ESSEX. 17.— Greys ( County).— For embezzling £ 6 13s. 6d.— WILLIAM SMITH ( proper name sup- posed ERNEST EUGENIE BARCHADET), age about 28, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., stiff build, of smart appearance, complexion very fair, hair ( brushed off forehead) dark brown, eyes light blue, aquiline nose, clean shaved; dress, dark tweed lounge suit and cap, bow tie. A native of San Francisco. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jordan, Grays. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 18.— Bridgend ( County).— For stealing, be- tween 4th and 5th inst., from his lodgings, £ 8 18s. — HARRY SCRUTTEN or SCRATTEN ( correct name supposed HARRY FISHER), age about 34, height 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair and moustache light brown, peculiar accent owing to tube in his throat; dress, dark clothes and cap. A native of Suffolk. He is an important witness in a case of manslaughter and talks of same. Has served in the Army. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Davis, Bridgend. 19.— Swansea ( Borougn).— For warehonse- breaking, and stealing a quantity of flannel goods — Supervisee JOHN CASSIDY, diets CLARKE, NOLAN, and LEE, Office No. 1411- 01 ( Tabular Form, 5th ult.), age 43, height 5 ft. 2^ in., com- plexion fresh, hair ( going grey and bald) and mous- tache dark brown eyes ( glaring) dark, scar right cheek; dress, dark coat and vest, cord trousers, dark muffler, dark grey cap. A bricklayer; native of Birmingham. Sentenced at North London Ses- sions, 19th November, 1901, to 4 years penal servi- tude and 3 years supervision for attempted burglary and assault. Liberated on 2nd licence, 27th July, 1906, which expired 25th ult. May be found at common lodging houses or cheap res- taurants. Information to Chief Constable Colquhoun, Swansea. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 20. - Bristol ( City). — For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences— AGNES EVANS, age about 22, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion and hair ( parted in centre and worn low on forehead) dark, eyes brown, artificial teeth upper, and several lower jaw, wears small round earrings; dress, nurse's blue cloak with cape, imi- tation pockets on cape, " Garrold" inside, dark grey striped skirt, blue blouse ( small white spots), patent leather waist belt with steel buckle, blue velvet ribbon round neck, blue motor cap, black shoes. English lever watch, rather large, chased outer case, very old make; 1 gold Albert, short strands and oblong knobs alter- nately, chased, 2 watch keys attached ( 1 set tur- quoise, the other square shape, set with green and red stones); 1 black woollen skirt, lined black silk ETHEL AULT or HOLT, age 22, height about 5 ft. 4A in., right shoulder higher than left, com- plexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes brown; dress, black skirt with flounce at bottom, pilot cloth jacket, black sailor hat. A prostitute, may be found sleeping in out- houses, or in company of soldiers; native of St. Paul's, London. 24.— Portsmouth ( Borouoh).— For steal- ing, 22nd ult., from his lodgings, a cash box, containing £ 9 8s. 6d.— HARRY A. YORKE, age about 28, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair and small moustache light, 2 front teeth very prominent; dress, black or dark suit, prominent white stripe running through trousers, greenish grey cap, blue tie, very pointed boots ( nearly new). He poses as the representative of an antique jewel- lery firm of Leeds, usually stops at small private hotels or restaurants, and makes himself very popular. Information to the Chief Constable, Portsmouth. 25.— Southampton ' Borough).— For ob taining money by false pretences TOMLINS, age 28, height 5 ft. 8 in., hair and moustache dark, eyes blue; dress, brown coat and vest, black trousers, skull cap. Is a Reservist of the Royal Garrison Artillery. Warrant issued. 26.— Southampton ( Borough).— For steal- ing a cheque book, containing cheques Nos. 392316 to 392334, drawn on the Naval Bank, Edgcumbe Street, Plymouth; 1 lady's gold watch, open face, maker, Searle, Plvmouth ; 1 ladv's long gold chain, close links— GEORGE PATRICK MURPHY, age 20, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eves blue: dress, green shade suit, dlalrk grey waterproof overcoat. A plumber; native of Nottingham. Sentenced at Warwick Assizes, 5th December, 1903, to 3 years penal servitude and remanet of a former sentence, for housebreaking. KENT. 29 — Gravesend ( Bortrugh).— For obtain- ing food and lodgings by false pretences— TWO MEN, both gave " name of WESTON ( lst, age 30, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, complexion and moustache ( waxed at ends) dark; dress, dark tweed suit, bowler hat. 2nd, age 26, height 5 ft. 7 in., stout build, complexion fair, round face, moustache light; dress, brown suit, skull cap, brown boots. Spoke with North Country accent). Stated they were engaged by a wholesale Clothing Company. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Gravesend. 30.— Maidstone ( Bwioh).—> nr failing to report — Licence- holder THOMAS DRISCOLL, alias LLOYD, HUDSON, JONES, and MARNEY, Office No. 878- 01, age 51, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fair, hair ( turning grev) brown, eyes blue grey, several scars on head and* 1 centre of back of neck. A mason : native of London. Sentenced at South London Sessions, 12th June, 1901, to 4 years penal servitude, remanet of a former sentence, and 3 years supervision for bur- glary. Marsh & Co., Clothiers, Ramsgate," on label inside jacket — WILLIAM BLACKBURN, alias A. W. SPENSER, MARSH, JAMES, WEST, WIL- SON, DRAPER, BLAND, GALE, and FEAR, Office No. 3168- 97 ( for photograph see Case No. 31, 19th ult.), age 67, height 5 ft. 5 in., com- plexion fresh, hair light brown, whiskers and mous- tache ( turning grey and trimmed) brown, eyes grey, slightly humped back; dress, black or dark blue suit, dark tweed overcoat and cap. He took apartments in a respectable neighbourhood, 26th ult., stating he should be staying for 3 months. Called at a shop and asked that the suits be sent on approval, met the porter on the door step of his lodgings, and received the parcel. Abs- conded 27th ult. Warrant issued. LANCASHIRE. 33.— Bolton ( County).— For obtaining, by false pretences, a quantity of camel hair belting ( recovered)— JOHN BROWN, age about 36, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaved; dress, blue serge suit, black hard hat. A native of Farnworth, near Bolton. Is believed to be in London. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Leeming, Bolton. M.— Kirkham Ommtu).— For forgery— JOHN HALL, age 29, height 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes brownish grey, right thumb deformed, ears rather prominent; wearing light grey over- coat, silk hat, plain gold signet ring on right little finger, gold knotted hoop ring on 3rd left finger, gold open link watch chain with a £ 2 piece at- tached. NOR THA MP TON SHIRE. 6 — Davontry ( n'+> » * ti).— For ftealing, 13th ult., a bicycle, 28 ill. wheels, 26 in. frame, sloping top bar, J in. pitch chain, wide dropped handle bars, front rim slightly buckled, Brooks's saddle, Crabbe front rim brake, aluminium paint on wheels and spokes, Scotch Victor back tyre, nearly new— WALTER BUNTING, age 23, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion pale, hair brown, eyes grey; dress, blue serge suit, dark cap. NOTTINGHAMSHIRE. 37.— Nottingham ( City).- Yov obtaining, by false pretences, between 15th and 29th Septem- ber, 1906, a set of new blai'k harness, silver- plated mounts, plated hames, patent leather lined saddle, brown reins, bottom parts double leather; 1 pair of patent bridoon chains on bridle, mounted in patent leather, strapping sewn in four rows; 1 new black leather overcheck rein with nickel bit; 1 new billeted double rein hunting bridle with 2 nickel bits; 1 nickel straight mouth bit, 2 rings each end; 2 new carriage rugs; 1 new gut and bone braided whip; 1 set of brushes— J. BROWN ( supposed false), age about 30, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, oval face, hair light brown, eyes blue, clean shaved, smart appearance, an inveterate cigar smoker. Is a low horse dealer and attends sales and fairs, and usually drives about in a veiy smart horse and trap. Was accompanied by A MAN, age about 22, height 5 ft. 4 in. They took lodgings in a respectable neighbourhood, and stables in another district, from where Brown ad- vertised horses, < tc., for sale. Warrant issued. Photograph can be seen on application. The body has been identified as that of ANNE PALMER, who was in the workhouse at Bulcamp, near Halesworth, 12th and 13th October, with James Palmer, age 60, and Martha Palmer, age 61, tramps; stated they came from Lowestoft and were going to Hales- worth. If found they should be " detained, and information forwarded to Supt. Clarke, Halesworth.
