Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted 4 « one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to bi taken upon them by another force. II, Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. A. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must b* clearly stated. I. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait- • « d of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is targe or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from fa. to 10 « . A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost •/ engraving sketches. M « < 9ttry announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if thi name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of ptlice, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the cat* may be. ILT xows. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged b » counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to thi number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one tide of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, Xew Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Muting Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue oannot be guaranteed. Warrant issued 2.— A Division•— For obtaining a flute, 15th ult., by false pretences— JOHN M. WAL- TON, age 26, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light, eyes grey, upper teeth prominent and decayed; dress, black jacket suit, light tie, gold pin with pearl in centre. He answers advertisements in the Exchange and Mart, gives a London Bank as reference, thereby obtains property on approval and decamps. Warrant issued. 3. — D Division » — For conspiracy and fraud, 27th September— J. DENVERS, age 35, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fair, hair light, moustache ginger, eyes blue; dress, black frock coat, fancy vest, dark trousers, or dark jacket suit, black hard felt hat, mourning ring on one left finger, of shabby appearance. Is fond of betting. Warrant issued. 4.— C Division.— For obtaining £ 285 by forged cab hire agreements— FREDERICK KING- SHOTT, age 40, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair dark, eyes brown; wearing dark clothes, light Alpine hat. A native of London. Warjant issued. 5.— J Division> — For embezzlement — JOHN TOWNSEND, Office No. 376- 01 ( Case No. 10. 18th August, 1905), age 39, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion sallow, hair dark, eyes blue, part of top of 2nd right finger deficient, scar base left thumb, right shoulder lower than left, head in- clined to right, splay feet; dress, black coat, dark striped trousers, black hard felt hat. A butcher; native of Hereford. Warrant issued. 6.— P Division.— For obtaining £ 750 by fraud ( matrimonial), 24th May, 1906— GEORGE SMITHSON GIBB. age 48, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slight build, erect bearing, complexion sallow, long face, hair ( turning grey, bald on top) dark brown, bushy eyebrows, eyes ( small) blue, short hairy fingers ( one has been injure^), high forehead, broad nostrils, close firm mouth, thick lips, bad teeth, scar left side of neck, flat cheek bones, soft voice, pleasant manner, walks quickly. A printer's machine manager. Photograph and specimen of handwriting can be seen on application. Warrant issued. V — X Division•— For embezzling 8s. lid- — REGINALD BERTIE FARROW, alias RODGER, age 20, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion dark, hair and slight moustache black, eyes brown ; dress, grey tweed suit, black cap. BERKSHIRE. 8 — Reading ( Borough). — For embezzle- ment— ALBERT MITCHELL, age 28, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair ( curly on top) brown, moustache light brown; dress, dark green mixture jacket suit, light grey tie, lace boots. A meat salesman; native of Read- ing. Lately employed as a manager, has also worked on electric works and for the Central Meat Co., at Swindon. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Reading. CA MBRIDGESHIRE. 9.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For obtain- ing £ 2 10s. by false pretences, 22nd ult.— A. BENYON ( supposed false), age about 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., hair ( turning grey) and heavy moustache dark: dress, blue serge suit, black bowler hat. He took lodgings at Cheltenham, stated he was a master plumber, advertised in the Feathered World, pigeons and geese for sale, re- ceived replies and money. Absconded 25th ult. Warrant issued Information to the Chief Constable, Cambridge. CA RMA R THENSHIRE. 10.— Carmarthen ( County).— For obtain- ing a pair of heavy nailed lace boots by false pre- tences, 11th ult.— ROBERT ELLIS, age about 35, height about 5 ft. 4 in., complexion and hair dark, eyes brown ( lost sight of left); dress, dark coat and vest, cord trousers, grey peak cap. A farm labourer : supposed a native of Aberystwyth or Llantrissant. May be found at a common lodging house. Warrant issued. 11 — Carmarthen ( CountyY- SAN CAR- RUTHERS. Case No. 12, 27th October, 1905. Not now wanted. Warrant withdrawn. 12.— Carmarthen ( County').— For steal ing, 23rd ult., a shirt, and obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences— THOMAS SHAW, alias ALEX SMITH, age about 32, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion, hair, and eyes dark, loud voice ; dress, blue suit, light cap, strong nailed lace boots, wearing stolen flannelette shirt, which has initials " J. T." worked with white thread on tab in front, 2 buttons on each wrist band, and buttons at back. Had in his possession a gold Albert, and a lady's gold ring. Represented himself to be a " civil en- gineer and ordnance surveyor. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Carmarthen. CHESHIRE. 13.— Birkenhead ( County \— For stealing, 14th ult., at Neston, a lady's black silk umbrella, straight bone handle, square top, gold mounted, initials " E. M. M." on one mount — MARY BATES, alias HEYWOOD, age 49, height 5 ft, 2 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes ( right partly closed) grey, wears glasses, left hand injured, mole right temple. ( See'Case No. 12, 12th ult.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Sutherland, Birkenhead. 14 — Middlewich ( County).— For stealing a horse ( recovered)— WILLIAM WASHINGTON, age 29, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue; wearing light three- quarter length overcoat, cap, brown boots. A native of Congleton. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Thompson, Middlewich. 15. — Runcorn ( County). — For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, also for steal- ing a silver hunter watch, No. 3706, maker J. Harris, Manchester, glass missing, and a long old- fashioned silver watch guard— — TAYLORSON, age 25 to 28, height about 6 ft., complexion fair, hair ( cut short) and slight moustache light, eyes rather full, large nose, slightly crooked; dress, dark mixture tweed suit, grey tie, grey peak cap, lace boots with plain fronts, wearing a metal chain. CUMBERLAND. 16— Penrith ( County).— For stealing title deeds, between 1st February and 21st September, 1906— SAMUEL ARCHIBALD, alias ARCHI- BALD WILSON, age about 45, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., hair and moustache dark, eyes dark brown, nose rather thick at point, strong eyebrows, corpu- lent but active, wears glasses with a bluish tint. A solicitor's clerk. He obtained a situation at Pen- rith in Februarv last, by false testimonials, which represented he had been in a situation at Nottingham for 10 rears. Is accompanied by his WIFE, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 3 to 5 in., hair dark brown, slightly mixed with grey, long thin face, longish nose, artificial teeth: and 2 Children ( girls), 1 age about 11 years, long black hair, other age 34 3- ears, light curly hair. Warrant issued. 18.— Renishaw ( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences, at Creswell, 19th ult.— TWO MEN ( lst, age about 25, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, complexion dark, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes dark; dress, dark cycling suit, dark cap, brown glace kid boots. 2nd, age about 25, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fair, hair and slight moustache light,, eyes blue; dress, grey jacket suit, cap). They travel the country with a camera, take photographs of farm houses, & c., collect money on account, give receipts in name of Davis & Co., Thorne Road, Doncaster, and promises to forward the photographs in a few days. DURHAM. 19. — Stockton- on- Tees ( County). — For stealing ( bailee) £ 20, lst ult. — ROBERT HANNIKER, age about 30, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., rather stout build, complexion fresh, hair and thick moustache brown; dress, thick light brown rough tweed suit, large check, jacket square cut, trousers tight fitting, black neckerchief, hard felt hat, Blucher boots. A low horse dealer. He was entrusted with the above amount to purchase old horses in the district of Northallerton, visited Thirsk, York, and Hull, and expressed a desire to go to Scotland. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hildreth, Stockton- on- Tees. 20. — Stockton- on- Tees ( Countv).— W. MARSTON, Case No. 11, 16th March, 1906, not now wanted. Warrant withdrawn. GLOUCESTERSHIRE . 21.— Bristol l City).— For stealing ( servant) £ 8 10s.— FREDERICK GEORGE WILMOT, age 27, height 5 ft. 5| in., rather stout build, complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaved, eyes grey, scar between right thumb and forefinger, small scar bottom of 2nd right finger, 2 scars and dot, indistinct, outside right forearm, scar back of head, brown mole right collar bone, several dots indistinct left forearm, scar left side of head, mole left side of stomach, ruptured left side, heavy sullen appearance; dress, light grey jacket, dark grey trousers and vest, black cardigan jacket, blue muffler with gold colour stripes, dark cap, blucher boots, may be wearing a blue overcoat. Is fond of betting. Has been employed as a butcher. Sen- tenced at Bristol, 23rd March, 1901, to 6 weeks imprisonment for indecent exposure; and on 6th December, 1901, to 9 months for attempted unnatural offence with a pony. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 22.— Bristol ( City).— For stealing a watch and chain ( recovered) — Expiree ALBERT DAVIS, alias JONES, WILSON, and ANDER- SON, Office No. 2148- 98, age 25, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes blue, lst joint 2nd right finger has been broken, nail deformed, " W. O." right forearm; dress, black serge suit, midshipman's cap with badge composed of a crown and cross flags. A seaman; native of Hamburg. He took lodgings, gave the name of Julius Anderson, and stated he was in Bristol looking for his parents, whom he had not seen for some years, and that he was second mate of the s. s. City of Glasgow, lying at Govan Dock, under repair, and would not be ready for sea for about 15 weeks. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. HAMPSHIRE. 2' A— Lyndhurst ( County).— For failing to surrender to his bail at Hants Quarter Sessions, 16th ult., charged with stealing a quantity of hay — ALBERT BROWN, age 27, height 5 ft. 9^ in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes brown, walks erect; dress, light brown coat and vest, brown breeches, old brown leather gaiters, muffler, lace boots. Wakeford, Lyndhurst. 24.— Southampton ( Borough).— For steal- ing a cheque book on the Naval Bank, Edgcumbe Street, Plymouth; 1 lady's gold watch, open face, maker, Searle, Plymouth; 1 lady's long gold chain, close links— GEORGE PATRICK MURPHY, age 20, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue; dress, green shade suit, dla( rk ' grey waterproof overcoat. Warrant issued. 26.— Southampton < Bortruoh).— For false pretences — Expiree HENRY WILLIAM, MARCK, alias WILLIAMS, Office No. 1517- 99, age 42, height 5 ft. 5j in., complexion very dark, ( appearance of a half- caste), hair and eyes brown, mole left side nose and over left eye, indistinct tattoo marks back left wrist, both feet deformed; dress, dark blue suit, cheese cutter cap with shiny peak. A marine baker; native of Southampton. He was formerly in the Navy, and has been convicted at Newport ( Mon.), Winchester, and Gibraltar. Left Guildford, 23rd ult., stating he was going to Gravesend. HER TFORDSHIRE. 26.— St. Albans ( Cmmty).— For an offence under the Bankruptcy Act— JAMES HARRI- SON, alias CHARLES EDWARDS, age 38 to 40, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, full eyes, walks quicklv, slightly bow legs, excitable. An engine cleaner; native of Gains- borough. Supposed known at Sheffield, Doncaster, York, Rotherham, and Hull, and to have been previously convicted and wanted elsewhere. He advertised in The Stage for actors, & c., received applications, then wrote on pape* r with heading, " The American Dramatic and Variety Combination," engaged applicants at £ 1 5B. per week, and asked them to meet him, on arrival he obtained deposits for wardrobes, and held re- hearsals at public houses. CHESHIRE. 34. — Crewe ( County).— Charged with steal- ing, 22nd ult., 4 pairs of dark mixture woollen socks— JOSIAH MOUNTFORD, alias THOMAS SWIFT, JOHN MAY, and JOHN TOWNEY, age 50, height 5 ft. 9 iu., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, old cut mark under left side of jaw, and over left eye; dress, dark check jacket, black vest, " 355 " stamped inside, light cord trousers, small check cap, blucher boots, braces stamped " Macclesfield Union." A native of Leicester. Has served 12 years in the North Staffordshire Regiment; also in the lst Manchester Regiment, and was dis- charged for fraudulent enlistment. Tramps the country and seeks employment on farms, collieries, & c. Convicted of assault at Newcastle, 10th October, 1892; larceny at Stafford, 3rd December, 1894, and 3rd July, 1900; and house- breaking, 2nd July, 1905; Crewe, 12th February, 1895, and 3rd April, 1895; cruelty to animals, 2nd April, 1895; drunkenness, 21st December, 1901; and begging, lst July, 1904; larceny at Newcastle, 2nd April, 1902; threats, 23rd November, 1903; drunkenness and disorderly con- duct, 30th November, 1903; larceny and abscond- ing with workhouse clothing, at Nantwich, 29th February, 1904. Sentenced, 26th ult., at Chelmsford, to 14 days imprisonment for begging alms with begging letter — GERALD FITZGERALD, age 40, height 6 ft. in., erect bearing, complexion fresh, long thin face, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes grey; dress, grey jacket suit and cap. A clerk; native of Waterford. He calls at houses and hands in a letter stating he is a solicitor's clerk out of employ- ment, and up to 4 months ago was employed by a firm of solicitors in the City, and asks for help. Had in his possession a skeleton latch key. Photograph can be seen on application.
