RBQUL 1( 1 communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE QAIITTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to bs taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person rtiponsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must b « clearly stated. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and ingravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 61. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost ef engraving sketches. itery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the can may be. LT IOXS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to tht number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment wiU be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual formj and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. In order to avoid the retention of useless records in the Finger Print Department, the Registrar of Habitual Criminals would be glad if the Chief Constables of Counties, Cities, and Boroughs, will, in future, notify the death of any criminal who has been finger- printed. A labourer or jobbing gardener; native of Manchester. Sentenced at Derby Countv Quarter Sessions, 5th April, 1905, to 6 months hard labour, and 2 years supervision for larceny. 3115. DERBYSHIRE. 15 — Chesterfield ( Borough). — For ob- taining food and lodgings by false pretences, be- tween 25th and 29th ult,, and for stealing, 28th ult., a silver Boston lever watch, No. 53363, white dial, black fingers, dent in case near ring, long silver guard, small link pattern, attached— ERNEST RODGERS, age 27 to 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slight build, complexion and hair dark, thin face, several front teeth missing, tattoo marks right forearm; dress, dark check jacket and vest, dark trousers, red, white and black check tie, cap, turned up at sides and back, old brown boots. Stated he was a boiler rivetter, and had obtained work at a local foundry. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Chester- field. DURHAM. lb.— Consett ( County).— For bigamy, lst July, 1901.— PATRICK McBRIDE, age 30, height 6 ft. 1 in , good build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, freckles on face, carries head forward, looks downwards when walking ; usually wears black suit, white tie, cap, light lace boots. A blast furnaceman or labourer at ironworks ; native of co. Derry. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, County Police, Durham, or to Supt. Murphy, Consett. GLA MO RGA NSHIRE . 17.— Cardiff ( City).— For embezzlement - GEORGE MATTHEWS, age 48, height 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion sallow, small straight nose, hair ( turning grey, bald on top) brown, slight moustache dark, eyes hazel, slightly knock- kneed, turns feet outwards, speaks with slight foreign accent, is said to be able to speak French and Roumanian, talkative and boastful; dress, dark flannel jacket suit with white pin stripes, small bow tie, gold pin set carbuncle, black hard felt hat, gold colour double watch chain, fetter and short link pattern, tan colour boots. Stated he was a native of Jersey. He was Secretary to a Friendly Society, and is believed to have in his possession a number of valuable securities, which he may dispose of. Absconded 25th ult. May endeavour to go abroad. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable McKenzie, Cardiff. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 18. — Cheltenham ( County). — For em- bezzlement — ARTHUR WRENTMORE, age about 23, height 5 ft. 5 in., stout build, complexion fresh, full face, hair brown, clean shaved, ronnd shoulders, slightly bow legged; dress, brown jacket and vest, bluish trousers, grey cap. A vanman. Has been employed at Bristol as a butcher. Is fond of horse racing. On 29th September, 1905, he was bound over at Lomg Ashton Petty Sessions for a similar offence. Absconded 21st ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hopkins, Cheltenham. 19.— Bristol ( City).— For stealing 3 watched ( recovered)— Expiree FREDERICK FRY, alias LEWIS, LEE, FORD, and PEARCE, Office No. 2588- 00, age 68, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair, beard, and eyes grey, brown mark back right hand and on throat, scar right side neck; wearing a grey coat and vest, striped trousers. Native of Bath. A travelling watch repairer, canvasses public and refreshment houses, obtains watches or clocks for repair, which he invariably pledges and absconds. Has been convicted at Marlborough, Cardiff, Swansea, Bristol, Usk, Gloucester, Winchester, Bridge- water, and Exeter. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Acting Chief Constable, Bristol. HAMPSHIRE. 20 — Alton ( County).— J AMES RAE, Case No. 15, 21st ult. Information cancelled. 21.— Gosport ( County).— For obtaining money, food, and lodgings by false pretences, be- tween 13th and 20th ult.— EDWARD GRIF- FITHS, age 40, height about 5 ft. 6 in., com- plexion fresh, hair, moustache, and full beard very dark, plausible manner, of smart appearance; dress, frock coat, double- breasted fancy vest, grey trousers with dark stripes, small light striped tie, silk hat. A native of Tunbridge Wells. May assume the name of Graham. Stated he was an auctioneer, and Estate Agent, stayed at a good class inn, in payment of account, gave a cheque for more than the amount, and obtained the balance, on the cheque being tendered at the bank, it was found he had no account. t Warrant issued. Cottle, Gosport. 22.— Ring wood i.' ounty).— For leaving his wife and family chargeable to the Christchurch Union, 17th July last— SIDNEY WILLIAM SAMUEL SAUNDERS, age 33, he% ht 5 ft. 6J in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, scar centre of forehead, under chin and on right shin. Mayes, Ringwood. 23.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For steal- ing, 22nd ult., a lady's gold neck chain, set turquoise, 3 in. apart, pendant attached; 1 lady's 18 ct. gold Albert, 2 small chains joined with a ball, gold heart each side of ball, charms attached; 1 lady's gold keyless watch, gold face, embossed back— A MAN, who gave the name of FRED- ERICK BENNETT, age 23 or 24, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair black, clean shaved, eyes grey, prominent teeth, of smart appearance; dress, navy blue suit, reen tie, black hard felt hat, brown boots. A native of Plymouth. ( Is identical with Charles Breen, Case No. 3, 21st ult.) Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Portsmouth. 24.— Southampton ( Bor<. vgh).— Yov fail- ing to report— Licence- holder CHRISTOPHER HUNT, alias THOMAS CUTLER, SMITH, and HOOPER, Office No. 2026- 02, age 74, height 5 ft. 4f in., complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey and thin on top) brown, eyes blue, right forefinger has been crushed. KENT. 27.— Maidstone [ County).— For stealing £ 30— ARTHUR ONIONS, alias WILKINS, age 20, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes dark, takes quick steps, lump about the size of a nut under left jaw; dress, black jacket and vest, double- breasted, grey trousers, black hard felt hat, sometimes wears a cap. A native of Maidstone. May endeavour to enlist or go abroad. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Supt. Had with them A BOY, age about 3 years, fat full face, hair and eyes dark ; dress, blue overcoat, black astrachan collar, blue knickers, blue cricket cap, piped with blue cord, navy blue socks, brown canvas shoes. B." engraved thereon; 1 silver curb chain with silver medal, engraved " F. B.," and silver match box, chased, engraved " F. B.," attached; 1 American gold curb chain with silver sovereign case, chased and engraved F. S2.— Hurst ( County).— For embezzling monies of the Oldham Equitable Co- Operative Society, Limited— JOHN SLATER, age 27 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown ( turning grey), eyes grey, flat feet, turns feet outwards, of lively disposition; dress, dark tweed or similar clothing, round felt hat. A grocer's assistant. May seek employment at Co- Operative or other large grocery establishments. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hewitt, Hurst, near Ash- ton- under- Lyne. 33 — Liverpool ( City).— For lu- ceny, 22nd ult.— WILLIAM KEPPLE, age 24, height about 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, small moustache, eyes grey scar on bridge of nose. A painter. He was in custody at Bury and Salford during 1904, and is said to be wanted by the City Police, Manchester. 34.— Liverpool ( City).— For larceny, 20; h August last— MARY HEYWOOD, alias BATES, age about 50, height about 5 ft., hair ( turning grev) dark, 2 left fingers deformed, wears glasses. SHROPSHIRE. 44. — Oswestry ( County). — For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences HARR" S WOOD, age 18 to 20, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, complexion ruddy, long features, hair ( bushy in front) dark brown, eyes supposed grey, large front teeth decayed, of good address: dress, black jacket and vest, light grey trousers with narrow dark stripes, dark tie with red and blue spots, red and brown plaid cap, brown kid gloves, light lace boots, gold colour pin, large silver double chain, silver watch, minute hand broken, gold ring. Stated he was a musician; and a native of Leicester. He takes lodgings, leaves the next morning on the pretence of playing the organ at the Parish Church, opens offertory boxes, and steals the contents. Supposed wanted elsewhere. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lewis, Oswestry. and pawns same, if questioned by the pawn- broker he produces a stamped receipt for the article. In two cases the receipts purported to have been giv6n by a person named Harris, of Leeds. He pledged here a camera, 5 in. by 4 in., cycle poco No. 3, made by the Rochester Camera Supply Co., unicum shutter, bush for tripod, 3 slides in brown leather case.
