XXIII., NO 23/ 4 BBGU£ All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE QAIITTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to bi taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person mponsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must bi clearly stated. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and tngravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from Bi. to 10s. .4 remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost if engraving sketches. Mvery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer oj not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the can may be. T OJV S. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officii of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to thi number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so at to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, yew Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. SPECIAL NOTICE. WILLIAM HENRY STREET and BERTHA SILLIFANT, The Orphan Girls' Home, 40 Somerleyton Road, Brixton. The above Home is carried on under doubtful circumstances, and the public are appealed to for subscriptions to assist in the carrying on of the work. A few children are, however, at the Home, but these are said to be none too well cared for. Complaints have been received from persons who be- lieved they were subscribing for the Brixton Orphanage, Barrington Road, Brixton, which is a place of old standing and good repute. Brown, Poole. 10.— Wimborne ( County).— For obtaining 10s. by false pretences on or about 19th inst.— — COUSINS, age about JO, height 5 ft. 2 in., hair light ( turning grey); dress, black skirt, white blouse with dark spots or small flowers, dark sailor hat, brown ulster or mackintosh, with belt at waist. Was at Poole 20th inst., accompanied by a MAN, age about 45, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., stout build ; dress, light brown suit and cap, white boots. Carried a parcel wrapped in news- paper. He served in the 5th Dragoon Guards. They are known to the Soldiers' and Sailors' Aid Society. She is stated to have been previously convicted. Wairant issued. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 13. — Cheltenham { County). — For em- bezzlement — ARTHUR WRENTMORE, age about 23, height 5 ft. 5 in., stout build, complexion fresh, full face, hair brown, clean shaved, round shoulders, slightly bow legged; dress, brown jacket and vest, bluish trousers, grey cap. A vanman. Has been employed at Bristol as a butcher. Is fond of horse racing. On 29th September, 1905, he was bound over at Loiag Ashton Petty Sessions for a similar offence. Absconded 21st inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hopkins, Cheltenham. 14.— Gloucester ( County).— For failing to report — Licence - holder JAMES DONOVAN, alias RUSSELL, CLARK, and RIORDAN, Office No. 3740- 98, age 42, height 5 ft. 3J in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes grey, clean shaved, scar over right eyebrow, left instep slightly deformed ; dress, blue suit, pilot jacket, black bowler hat, Scotch plaid tie. A general dealer; native of London. Sentenced at Derby County Quarter Sessions, 18th October, 18 - 49, to 5 years penal servitude and remanet of a former sentence for horsestealing. HAMPSHIRE. lb.— Aldershot ( County).— For burglary, between 17th and 18th inst., at Crondall, and stealing about 50 penny packets of Woodbine cigarettes; 32 J oz. packets of shag tobacco, " John Price, Farnham," on each packet; 1 nickel plated money box, small stag on top, containing about 80 farthings; and about 22s. worth of bronze coins— ALFRED SEGAR, a Jew, age 20, height 5 ft. in., complexion dark, hair black, eyes brown, scar right thigh; dress, blue serge jacket, blue knickers with broad rod stripe, blue stockings, black cycling shoes, Brodrick cap. A driver, No. 33202, of the 104th Battery Royal Field Artillery, Ewshot.— JOHN MASON, age 24, height 5 ft. 4.\ in., complexion fresh, hair light brown ( inclined to sandy), eyes grey, several dots left forearm, heart left wrist; dress, khaki serge riding pants and putties, Brodrick cap. A driver, No. 35293, of the 104th Battery Royal Field Artillery, Ewshot. Both are deserters and were riding bicycles. 16. — Aldershot ( County). — For stealing 18th inst., a model " A" " Standard James" bicycle, No. 17390, 24 in. frame, Dunlop tyres, rat trap pedals with toe clips, " James" transfer on head; 1 dark tweed suit with light stripes; £ 3; and a Postal Order for £ 1 — A MAN, age 22, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey, cross tattooed outside right forearm, bridge of nose injured, scar on forehead; dress, dark tweed suit with light stripes, cap, boots, hand sewn. A private of the 4th Manchester Regiment. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aldershot. 17 — Basingstoke < County).— For steal- ing, 21st inst., a watch ( recovered); 1 leather watch chain with buckle; 1 white metal stop watch, black hands, " A. H. Conduit" engraved inside case, black leather watch chain with buckle in centre, white metal bar at end, attached— A MAN, age about 26, height about 5 ft, 6 in., slight build, complexion fair, slight moustache light, eyes blue ; dress, dark coat and trousers, grey cap. Had with him a bicycle. He took lodgings, stated he had come from Reading, and was start- ing work on the South- Western Railway Station. During the temporary absence of the occupier he committed the larceny and decamped. ( Is identical with Mac, Case No. 16, 21st inst,) Information to Supt. Hale, Basingstoke. 18.— Petersfield ( County).— For larceny, 12th inst., at Buriton— WALTER BREEN, age 23, height 5 ft. 8f in., complexion fresh, hair brown, slight moustache, eyes blue; dress, navy blue suit, black hard felt hat, old military boots. A tramping labourer. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Appearance of a groom. Stated he was travelling for a firm of fancy goods merchants, London.— A WOMAN ( alleged wife of above), age 20, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., slight build, hair golden, small eyes ; dress, black skirt and bodice, Dlack military coat with green piping, white motor cap. Both spoke with Midland accent; stated they came from Burton- on- Trent and were going to Southampton. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Ports- mouth. KENT. 20. — Ash ford ( County).— For having a quantity of diseased meat in his possession, in- tended for sale, and failing to appear to a summons FREDERICK WILLIAM DARBY", age about 42, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., rather slight build, completion, hair ( turning grey), heavy moustache, slight side whiskers, and eyes dark; wearing black or grey coat, black bowler hat, gaiters, carries a hooked cane. A butcher and stock dealer. May be found at markets and stock sales. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bailey, Ashford. 21.— ** aidstone ( County).— For stealing £ 30— ARTHUR ONIONS, alius WILKINS, age 20, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes dark, takes quick steps, lump about the size of a nut under left jaw; dress, black jacket and vest, double- breasted, grey trousers, black hard felt hat, sometimes wears a cap. A native of Maidstone. May endeavour to enlist or go abroad. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Supt. Ford, County Police Office, Maidstone. 22.— Sittingbourne ( County).— For steal- ing a black corded crepon dress, and £ 5— MAY POOLE, alias BAKER and KING, age 40 to 45, height about 5 ft., slight build, complexion sallow, blotchy face, hair ( turning grey) dark, probably wearing artificial teeth; wearing a light fawn colour jacket, black sailor hat. A laundress. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Rhodes, Sittingbourne. 23.— West Mailing ( County).— For being concerned with a man in custody, charged with stealing a quantity of brass fittings at Hunton, 22nd inst.— GEORGE SMITH, age about 40, height about 6 ft., hair dark brown, moustache ginger, limps; dress, blue pilot jacket, white cord vest and trousers, P. and O. cap, heavy lace boots. A native of Barking, Essex. May seek employ- ment at Public Works, Gasworks, & c. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hoare, West Mailing. 24.— Folkestone ( Borough).— For stealing, 21st inst., a black merino 6kirt, blue Italian lin- ing, nearly new; 1 new blanket with blue and red stripes, red edging; 1 pair women's lace shoes, size 5, small; 1 pair grey corsets, new— AhTHUR PHILIP 10WN, age about 24, height about 5 ft., slight build, complexion pale, hair black, slight moustache dark, eyes blue; dress, dark coat, blue trousers, dark check cap, old boots, short fawn leggings. A pawnbroker's assistant. Accompanied by his WIFE, age 27, height 5 ft. lor2 in., stout build, complexion sallow, hair black, eyes dark, of Jewish appearance; dress, black jacket and skirt, brown canvas shoes, large black chiffon hat. Had with them A BOY, age about 3 years, fat full face, hair and eyes dark ; dress, blue overcoat, black astrachan collar, blue knickers, blue cricket cap, piped with blue cord, navy blue socks, brown canvas shoes. LANCASHIRE. \ 25. — Liverpool ( City). — For stealing a bicycle ( recovered) — HAROLD THORNTON, alias BERT BRIE RLE Y, age about 25, height about 5 ft. 5 in., hair light brown, clean shaved, prominent nose, thick protuding lips, shews teeth, square chin, round face, London accent; dress, blue serge suit, black soft felt hat, patent leather shoes, wears an American fob. May seek employment as a waiter. He steals a bicycle or other property and pawns same, if questioned by the pawn- broker he produces a stamped receipt for the article. In two cases the receipts purported to have been giv6n by a person named Harris, of Leeds. He pledged here a camera, 5 in. by 4 in., cycle poco No. 3, made by the Rochester Camera Supply Co., unicum shutter, bush for tripod, 3 slides in brown leather case. Information to the Head Constable, Liverpool. 26.- St. Helens ( Borough).— For obtain- ing money by false prctences— T. ROBINSON, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in,, complexion fresh, wrinkles in face, hair and small moustache ( turning grey) ginger, eyes light blue, upper teeth artificial, Scotch accent, very plausible manner; dress, black jacket and vest ( double- breasted), grey trousers with black stripes, red tie, white straw hat with black and blue striped band, brown boots. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, St. Helens. 27.— Southport ( Borough).— For forgery and for uttering a forged acquittance, respectively — JOHN KNAGGS SIMPSON, age about 50, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion dark, hair ( turning grey) dark brown, eyes brown. Supposed a native of Halifax, where he was formerly em- ployed as a solictor's clerk and a variety entertain- ment manager.— MAGGIE HAWKINS, age about 28, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey. An actress or dancer. Accom- panied by a Girl, age 3 years. They co- habit as husband and wife, and will probably be found in company of theatricals. Have recently stayed at Hull and Scarborough. Warrants issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Southport. LINCOLNSHIRE. 28. — Lincoln ( City).— For stealing ( bailee) £ 3, 10th inst.— JOHN GORDAN TEALE, age 23, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair ( cut short) light brown, clean shaved, of military appearance, bad front teeth; dress, navy blue jacket suit, dark check cap. He was employed as boots at a temperance hotel. Mav endeavour to enlist. Warrant issued. 29.- Lincoln ( City).— For stealing ( bailee) 15th inst., a safety bicycle, " Lincoln Elk," 24 in. frame, 28 in. wheels, free wheel, " T. D. Cross" thereon, 16 teeth in cog, 44 teeth front cog, Palmer tyre back, Dunlop Licensed front, beaded edges on jointless rim, Phillips' front rim brake, Crab lever, Mansfield saddle, rat- trap pedals with toe clips, flat handle bar, large Lucas bell, black en- amelled, pump on top tube; also for stealing from his lodgings, a pair small opera glasses, black with silver plated mounts; 1 small brown leather cigar- ette case; 1 silver card case, chased, plain oval centre— A MAN, who gave the name of A. KIRK, age about 28, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., square set, stiff build, hair dark brown, eyes blue, promi- nent front teeth ( one missing); dress, navy blue jacket and vest, grey striped trousers, imitation diamond pin, brown check cap, turned up at back, lace boots. Stated he was an electrical engineer, employed by a large firm in Edinburgh, and that he was on six weeks' holiday. Stated he was a native of Edinburgh. Since he absconded it has been ascertained that he sold a bicycle ( no doubt stolen). Information to the Chief Constable, Lincoln.
