XXIIL, NO. 2372 BEGUL XII communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAKTTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to bi taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if luficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and tngravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 6 » . to 10a. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. ttery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. LT IONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form; and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, Xew Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcement* concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. He represents himself to be an Inspector to the Board of Trade. Warrant issued. 3.— K Division.— For stealine a silver watch ; 1 brown lounge suit: and £ 30, including a £ 5 note— CHARLES BREEN, age 24, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, clean* shaved, prominent teeth, walks erect: dress, dark blue serge suit, white straw hat, brown lace boots. WILLIAM HENRY STREET and BERTHA SILL1FANT, The Orphan Gals' Home, 40 Somerleyton Road, Brixton. The above Home is carried on under doubtful circumstances, and the public are appealed to for subscriptions to assist in the carrying on of the work. A few children are, however, at the Home, but these are said to be none too well cared for. Complaints have been received from persons who be- lieved they were subscribing for the Brixton Orphanage, Barrington Road, Brixton, which is a place of old standing and ^ ood repute. Both Street and Sillifant are looked upon with a deal of suspicion, but at present the Police are not in possession of evidence upon which successful action could be taken. ( No. 1S3443.) BUCKING HA MS HI RE. 4 — Great Mar Sow ( County).— For ob taining £ 1 Is. by false pretences, 3rd inst.— A MAN, age about 28, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., hair and moustache dark brown, eyes blue, teeth dis- coloured; dress, dark suit, straw hat. Had with him a bicycle with triangular tool bag. He stated that he required the money for a gymnasia at the Post Office, and produced a book of subscribers' names. Warrant issued. Summers, High Wycombe. 5— High Wycombe ( Borough).— For obtaining, by false pretences, 7th inst., 3 suits, size 4£ ( 1 light grey check tweed, single breasted reefer coat and vest, grey bone buttons; 1 blue worsted serge, same shape, plain blick bone buttons ; 1 grey worsted serge, same shape, grey bone buttons, " Griffin's Head," trade mark, and " Bedford," on all tickets)— A WOMAN. Is be- lieved identical with woman described in Cases Nos. 11. 21 and 98, 9th Februarv, and Case No. 17, 9th March last. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, High Wycombe. CHESHIRE. 6— Crewe ( County).— For stealing £ 2 10s. from their lodgings, 12th inst.— HERBERT —, age 18 or 19, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion pale. rather thin features, high forehead and cheek bones, hair dark brown, eyes ( full) dark; dress, black suit, shabby, reddish tie, dark cap. Had in his possession a photograph of a youth in school uniform, with piccolo in one hand.— TOM —, a? e 21, height 5 ft. 7 in., hair dark brown, clean shaved, may have a slight rash one side of mouth; dress, light brown jacket, dark trousers, light green cap, bronze colour tie. Stated thev were natives of Leicester, and transferred from the L. & N. W. Railway, Permanent Way Offices, Leicester to Crewe. Warrants issued. 7.— Crewe ( County).— For housebreaking, 18th inst., at Sydney, and stealing £ 3 2s. — THOMAS PARROT, age 16, height about 5 ft. 6 in., round shoulders, stoops slightly, complexion fresh, long features, aquiline nose, hair black ( rather long); dress, grey tweed jacket and vest, black trousers, light striped cap, heavy lace boots. A native of Crewe. Has been employed delivering milk. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pearson, Crewe. DERBYSHIRE. 8. — Chesterfield ( Borough). — For ob. taining food and lodgings by false pretences, be- tween 7th and 15tli inst.— ERNEST NADIN, alias MADIN and HIBBS, age about 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., hair and moustache dark : dress, black jacket suit, dark muffler, black cap. A collier or labourer: native of Whittington Moor. — HARRY FOKD, age 31, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair brown, mous- tache light brown; dress, dark tweed jacket, black double- breasted vest, brown breeches, brown leather leggings. Appearance of a groom. Stated he had been employed at a local colliery, and that he was a native of Nottingham. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Chester- field. DEVONSHIRE. 9-— Devonport ( Borough).— For stealing about £ 13, 2nd inst.— FREDERICK WEBB, aee 37, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, thin features, is Slid to be slightly pockmarked about the nose, hair and moustache brown, scar right side of neck, large bullet wound on one forearm, also tattooed ; dress, blue twill suit, light cap or black hard hat, lace boots. A native of London. Is a pensioned Band Sergeant of the 3rd Worcester Regiment, and was employed as a servant at the Royal Engineer College. Warrant issued. HAMPSHIRE. 13— Aldershot ( County).— For burglary, between 17th and 18th inst., at Crondall, and stealing about 50 penny packets of Woodbine cigarettes; 32 i oz. packets of shag tobacco, " John Price, Farnham," on each packet; 1 nickel_ plated money box, small stag on top, containing about 80 farthings; and about 22s. worth of bronze coins— ALFRED SEGAR, a Jew, age 20, height 5 ft. in., complexion dark, hair black, eyes brown, scar right thigh; dress, blue serge jacket, blue knickers with broad red stripe, blue stockings, black cycling shoes, Brodrick cap. A driver, No. 33202, of the lT54th Battery Royal Field Artillery, Ewshot.— JOHN MASON, age 24, height 5 ft. 4i in., complexion fresh, hair light Brown ( inclined to sandy), eyes grey, several dots left forearm, heart left wrist; dress, khaki serge riding pants and putties, Brodrick cap. A driver, No. 35293, of the 104th Battery Royal Field Artillery, Ewshot. Both are deserters and were riding bicycles. 14. — Aldershot ( County). — For stealing 18th inst., £ 3, and a Postal Older for £ 1 A MAN, age 22, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey, cross tattooed outside right forearm, bridge of nose injured, scar on forehead; dress, dark tweed suit with light stripes, cap, boots, hand sewn. TAMES RAE, age 19, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes grey, several scars back of head; dress, grey suit and cap, white tie with pink flowers, light lace boots. A native of Cork. Has been an inmate of the Reformatory School, Warminster, recently dis- charged from the 2nd Wiltshire Regiment. Ab- sconded from Whitehill, 7th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. James, Alton. 16.— Gosport ( County).— For stealing achain ( recovered), and a silver lever watch, open face, white dial, steel hands, maker " Samuels"— A MAN, age about 26, height about 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair and small mous- tache brown, hooked nose; dress, dark tweed suit and cap, wearing bicycle clips. Had with him a " Raleigh " bicycle, " Humber " saddle, which he offered for sale. Stated he had recently been dis- charged from the King's Royal Rifle Corps, and had obtained employment as a railway porter. Information to Supt. Cottle, Gosport. 17.— Peters field ( County1.— For larceny, 12th inst., at Buriton— WALTER BREEN, age 23, height 5 ft. 8f in., complexion fresh, hair brown, slight moustache, eyes blue; dress, navy blue suit, black hard felt hat, old military boots. Stated he was travelling for a firm of fancy goods merchants, London.— A WOMAN ( alleged wife of above), age 20, heieht 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., slight lniild, hair golden, small eyes ; dress, black skirt and bodice, olack military coat with green piping, white motor cap. Both spoke with Midland accent; slated they came from Burton- on- Trent and were going to Southampton. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Manchester. 29.— Blackpool ( Borough\— For larceny from a boarding house— HENRI DAUMONT, age 32 to 35, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion, hair, and moustache dark, oval face, speaks with broken French accent; dress, light grey flannel suit, light cap, turned up at back, or soft felt hat, patent leather shoes, sometimes wears a white muffler, carried a light fawn colour overcoat, and umbrella with hook handle. He left behind an old port- manteau, containing waste paper, bricks, & c. Information to the Chief Constable, Blackpool. 30.— St. Helens ( Borough).— For stealing a gold signet ring, monogram " H. B." on shield, repaired in 3 places; and 12s.; also for obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, between lst and 3rd inst.— MARY ROSS, alias WORSLEY, WILSON, FOSTER, & c., age 65, height 5 ft. 1A in., complexion ruddy, rather long face, hair ( turning grey) dark brown, eyes blue, 2 fingers and palm of one hand contracted, scar left side of forehead, mole under left ear; dress, blue serge skirt, blue flowered cotton blouse, plain black cape, white scarf, fastened at waist, old black bonnet, blue cloth boots, black jet brooch. Stated she came from Macclesfield in search of her son, who was a painter's apprentice, called upon the local secretary of the Painters' Association, told a plausible tale, thereby obtained food and lodgings, then com- mitted the larceny, and decamped. Previously convicted at Macclesfield, Knutsford. Middlesex, Winchester, Surrey, and Chester Assizes, Middles- brough, Jarrow, and Kendal. Supposed identical with woman, Case No. 8, 18th May last. 31.— St. Helens ' Borough).— For obtain- ing money by false pretences— T. ROBINSON, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, wrinkles in face, " hair and small moustache ( turning grey) ginger, eyes light blue, upper teeth artificial, Scotch accent, very plausible manner; dress, black jacket and vest ( double- breasted), grey trousers with black stripes, red tie, white straw hat with black and blue striped band, brown boots. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, St. Helens. 32 — Southport ( Borough).— For forgery and for uttering a forged acquittance, respectively - JOHN KNAGGS SIMPSON, age about 50, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion dark, hair ( turning grey) dark brown, eyes brown. Supposed a native of Halifax, where he was formerly em- ployed as a solictor's clerk and a variety entertain- ment manager.— MAGGIE HAWKINS, age about 28, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey. An actress or dancer. Accom- panied by a Girl, age 3 years. They co- habit as husband and wife, and will probably ' be found in company of theatricals. Have recently stayed at Hull and Scarborough. YORKSHIRE ( West Riding). 3.?.— Huddersfield ( Borough).— For bur- glary, and stealing a quantity of jewellery, & c.— Licence- holder WILLIAM O'BRIEN, alias BRYAN, GAUNT, and " MYSTERIOUS JOHNNY," Office No. 3413- 01, Case No. 51, 24th ult., age 66, height 5 ft. 8 in., round shoulders, complexion fresh, hair and eyes grey, face pock- marked, scar under left eye. An Irish cloth spinner. A notorious housebreaker, usually " works " on the outskirts of towns and sleeps out. Sentenced at Worcester Quarter Sessions, 7th April, 1902, to 5 years penal servitude and remanet of former sentence for burglary. Licenced 6th August, 1906, which expires 2nd October, 1907. U.— Dumfries ( Burgh).— For stealing £ 27, 22nd ult.— ARTHUR KELLY, age 33, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion dark, hair and moustache dark brown, 2 small scars left inner angle of nose; dress, dark tweed suit, green tie, bowler hat, light boots. A native of Deptford. Was sergeant and orderly- room clerk of the 3rd King's Own Scottish Borderers. May endeavour to re- enlist or go abroad. Absconded 22nd ult. Warrant issued.
