All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 1. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehensiin is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. » . Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 1. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s. to IOJ. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. I Livery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. L T IONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to tht number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, Hew Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. BUCKING HA MS HIRE. 11— High Wycombe ( Borough).— For deserting his wife and children, 15th March last— WILLIAM WARNER, age 34, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion dark, hair ( turning grey) black, eyes hazel, addicted to drink. A labourer; usually employed on public or railway works. Is a notorious poacher. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, High Wycombe. DEVONSHIRE. 12.— Exeter ( City).— For stealing £ 31 — GEORGE WALTER FISHER, age about 31 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 6 in., hair dark brown, rather heavy moustache ( twisted at ends) brown, left little finger missing; dress, dark suit or blue serge sui| t, brown square check overcoat,- black bowler hat or cap. He left for Bristol, 28th ult., had with him a black wooden box and a sack bag, both containing clothing, tools, & c., and supposed labelled " Stone, Bristol." He was employe! as a gas stoker, but formerlv as a deck steward on Ocean liners. Will, no doubt, endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. DORSETSHIRE. 13.— Sherborne ( County).— For stealing £ 13, 23rd ult.— WILLIAM BAYNE, a Scotch- man, age 24, height 5 ft. 7 in., rather square build, complexion fresh, full face, freckled, hair dark brown, clean shaved; dress, dark jacket suit, blue or purple tie, light cap, light boots. A footman. May be found in company of racing or betting men. He left for Waterloo, 24th ult. Wan- ant issued. Information to Supt. Carter, Sherborne. A native of West End, Southampton. He tramps the country and works on farms as a labourer. Is accom- panied by his Wife ( who hawks needles and cotton), and Son, age about 5 years. Warrant issued. Bowles, Andover. 19.— Petersfiold ( County).— For deserting his wife and family, leaving them chargoable to the Peters field Union— WILLIAM PINK, age 42, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown, top of right forefinger missing; dress, L. and S. Western Railway signalman's unform, viz.: blue cloth reefer jacket, vest with sleeves, blue trousers A signalman; native of Alresford. Has served in the Army. May assume the name of Alfred Wliite. HEREFORDSHIRE. 20— Hereford ( County).— For stealing. 26th ult., at Peterchurch, a brown cloth jacket ; 1 do. vest; 1 cheap metal keyless watch, brass chain attached; and 6s.— JAMES MORGAN, age " 18, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, three upper teeth prominent: wearing the stolen coat and vest, dark trousers and cap, mili- tary boots. HER TFORDSHIRE. 21.— Watford ( County).— For leaving his children chargeable to the Watford Union— HARRY ASH, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion sallowr, hair brown, eyes believed brown, dumb ; wearing dark clothes. Sup- posed a good draughtsman. Travels the country selling deaf and dumb literature. Stays at com- mon lodging houses. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Wood, Watford. KENT. 22.— Ashford ( County).— For stealing. 27th ult., at Lydd, a free wheel bicycle, Dunlop tyres, 2 rim brakes, flat handle bars, split underneath, enamelled black, " Alder Cycle," makers, Phillips Bros., Aldershot; 1 pair of boots, No. 4323; 1 pair of socks; 1 pair of serge trousers; and a pair of putties— EDWARD BRAYAN. age about 23, height 5 ft. 6 in., hair and eyes brown. 2 left toes missing, walks badly; wearing khaki clothing. LANCASHIRE. 23. — Liverpool ( City). — For uttering a forged order for goods, with intent to defraud— A MAN, who gave the name of WILLIAM JOHN LAMB, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 7 in., sharp features, moustache ( cropped short) light, prominent teeth ; dress, dark coat, light trousers, hard felt hat. Is believed to have been connected with the paint trade. He obtained note paper with a printed heading of some firm, then wrote a bogus letter to a colour manufacturer, stating that a representative of the firm would call upon him with a request to supply goods, and in due course he called, presented a forged order, and obtained gold leaf and paint brushes. Warrant issued. 24 — Liverpool ( City).— For obtaining, by false pretences, from a left luggage office, 16th March last, a tin trunk, containing clothing, & c.— LUCY MATTHEWS, age about 25, medium build; wearing dark clothing and light straw hat. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Liverpool. 25.— Lancaster ( Borough).— For stealing a gold oval brooch, set pearls round edce, diamond in centre; 1 gold curb bracelet, number of coins and trinkets attached ; 1 lady's silver Geneva watch — A MAN, age about 35, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion dark, speaks with foreign accent; dress, greenish jacket suit, grey motor cap, brown button boots. • Warrant issued. An agricultural labourer; native of Southburgli. Has served in the Army. Warrant issued. 27.— Wymondham ( County).— For assault and neglecting to maintain his family—- ARTHUR ELVIN, age 37, height 6 ft., complexion fresh, hair light brown, moustache inclined to ginger, eyes blue, " W. NOR THUMBERLA ND. 29.— Berwick - on- Tweed ( Borough).— For stealing, 17th ult., a lance- sergeant's tunic, K. O. S. Borderers, red cloth, white cotton stripes; 2 South African medals, " Private Gullen ( J) " on edges ( 1 Queens, with 3 clasps, viz., Cape Colony, Orange River Colony, and Johannesburg; other King's, 1901- 1902); 1 silver Geneva watch, winder on top broken; 1 lady's chain with tassel at end — JOHN ROBERT MALONE, alias ROBERT RICHARDSON, age 24, height 5 ft, 41 in., com- plexion fair, hair brown, eyes blue. A native of Jarrow- on- Tyne. Previously convicted of larceny at Jarrow, Cumberland Quarter Sessions, Carlisle do., Knutsford do., Darlington do., Durham do., of false pretences at Northallerton; also at Morpeth, for disgracing H. M. uniform. He belongs to the K. Own Scottish Borderers, is travel- ling the country wearing the stolen tunic and medals, and endeavouring to obtain money from persons who have sons serving in the Army. Warrant issued. Appearance of a navvy. Information to Supt. Smith, Banbury. 31 — Oxford ( City).— R. WILLIAMSON, alias WILLIAMS, Case No. 32, 7th April, 1905. Information cancelled, having been apprehended at St. Helier, Jersey, 26th ult., charged with obtaining money by false pretences ( bogus cheque). A native of London. Has been convicted at Bourne- mouth, Dover, Hastings, and Margate. ( See Case No. 22, 13th January, 1905.) He engaged rooms at a boarding house, com- mitted larceny, and absconded by stating that he had received a telegram calling him away. Information to the Chief Constable, Hastings. WORCES TERSHIRE. 36. — Redditch ( County).— For stealing ( bailee), 2nd February last, a hand cart ( re- covered)— H. GOODCIIILD, age about 45, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh ( rather ruddy), hair light, moustache light sandy, eyes grey, large feet, walks badly; dress, light brown jacket, dark trousers, black hard hat, large boots, uppers cut, wearing the South African War medal ribbon. A rag and bone gatherer. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hayes, Redditch. YORKSHIRE ( North Riding). 37.— Middlesbrough ( Borough). — For failing to report — Licence- holder JOSEPH FOSTER, Office No. 1144- 02, age 32, height 5 ft, 5J in., complexion fresh, hair, slight moustache, and eyes brown, scar right sme forehead, both cheeks and front and base of right thumb; dress, black jacket and vest, blue serge ( naval) trousers, blue cap with bright leather peak. A tailor; native of Lincoln. Sentenced at Lincoln Quarter Sessions, 17th October, 1902, to 3 years penal servi- tude, and remanet of a former sentence, for larceny. He a cheque book, the following day they pay in another bogus cheque, at the same time try to cash one of the bank's cheques taken from the book; they also open an account at Post Office Savings Banks with a bogus cheque, shortly after- wards call at a sub- Post Office, and withdraw £ 1 on demand. These persons are now travelling the country, and have committed offences at Liskeard, Gateshead, Salford, Liverpool, Rhyl, Hereford, & c., and are atlso defrauding shopkeepers and others by cashing worthless cheques. A bricklayer: native of London. — AMELIA JOHNSON ( supposed false), age 24, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion fresh, round face, hair brown, eyes blue, bridge of nose broken, " I. L. B. E., I. L. A., L. E. V. Y., F. M.," 2 crosses right forearm, " A. J." back right hand, heart with " B" in centre, man boxing, and several letters left forearm, " G. They have been tramping the country as husband and wife, both supposed previously convicted. They open an account at a bank with a bogus cheque, obtain obtains admission to hospitals and infirmaries, suffering apparently from a weak heart, there makes friends with youths, and after remaining a few days, takes his discharge and arranges to meet them on their discharge, takes them to his lodg- ings, and commits the offence. He also calls upon charitable persons, and states he is a Jesuit or High Churchman, a teacher of languages, that he recently came from Australia, and is stranded, thereby obtains money and lodgings.
