TUB GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY NEW SERIES. FRIDAY, MARCH 16, 1906. VOL. XXIII., No. 2318. I. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehensisn is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be ta, ken upon them by another force. I. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s. to 10s. _ A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 8. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an offieei of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension ot recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to tht number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, Kew Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Pott Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concern in// " Mixstng Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any su/ jxeyuent issue cannot be guaranteed. SPECIAL NOTICE. IN certain cases questions have arisen as to the payment for photographs applied for by Police Forces under Home Office circular of 15th March, 1897. The Registrar of Habitual Criminals is therefore authorised by the Secretary of State to say that, in any ordinary case, a photograph is not necessary to enable his Department to identify a prisoner, the finger prints alone being sufficient for the purpose; but if a photograph is applied for, or if, in any rare case, it should be re- quired to complete the identification, the cost will be charged to the Police Force interested. Stated he was agent ior a clothing firm who are prepared to supply clothing by the instalment system, obtained orders, and deposits in advance, gave printed receipts, bearing the name of a small local firm, or " The Supply Co.," adding the name of the town, " Cheque holders served from 3 p. m. to 10 p. m." written in red ink, thereon. ( Is identical with Man, Case No. 4, 2nd inst.) Warrant issued. Information to Capt. Henderson, Chief Con- stable, Reading. CARNA R VONSHIRE. 7.— Carnarvon ( County).— For embezzl- ing £ 4 5s.— ANEURIN DAVIES, age 26, height 5 ft. 5J in., complexion pale, hair very dark, eyes brown. A native of Llanrwst, Denbighshire. Was employed as an ironmonger's clerk. May be found at Salvation Army Barracks. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Griffith, Carnarvon. CORNWALL- 8. — Liskeard ( County). — For obtaining £ 12 10s., by false pretences, at Saltash— FRANK MIDDLETON, age about 35, height 5 ft. 10 in., hair and eyes dark, moustache dark brown; wear- ing long dark brown ribbed cloth overcoat, dark blue cap with glaced peak, dark tie. He repre- sented himself as a silversmith, produced passes authorising him to trade at barracks. On lst ult. he called at a bank and asked to be allowed to open an account, on 2nd ult. he paid a cheque for £ 20 to his credit, drawn by Lee Middleton < fc Co.; on 3rd ult. he paid in a cheque for £ 19 10s., drawn by Lee Middleton & Co., on the Devon and Cornwall Bank, Stonehouse; made out a cheque for £ 12 10s., and received the amount. The cheques have sinced been returned, marked " No funds." ( Is identical with S. Lawrence Case No. 13, 31st March, 1899.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Matthews, Liekeard. DERBYSHIRE. 10.— Renlshaw { County,. - For Mealing, 9 h inst., at Clown, a pair of dark brown cord trousers ; 1 dark cap with small white stripe, size 7 ; 1 black and white check neckerchief; and £ 1 6s. 9d.— WALTER TRAIN, alias TRAYOR, age 27, height 5 ft. 10£ in., slight build, complexion dark, Ion ™ thin face, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes dark, black prominent eyebrows, supposed tattooed right forearm and wrist; dress, black serge, jacket, and ( double- breasted) vest, dark brown cord trousers, dark cap, black and white neckerchief. A miner or foundry labourer. Is an Army reservist. Is in receipt of a pension from the Royal Artillery. Supposed a native of Hull. Absconded 9th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt, Andrew, Renishaw. DURHAM. 11 .- Stockton - on - Tees ( Cou- ty).— For obtaining £ 1 by a worthless cheque, 1st inst. — W. MARSTON, age about 35, height 5 ft. 4 in., rather stout build, complexion swarthy, hair and drooping moustache black, prominent cut scar on forehead, rolling gait, appearance of a seaman; dress, navy blue suit, black overcoat, black felt hat, wore a silver Albert, a plain gold ring, and a jewelled ring on right little finger. A native of Merthyr Tydfil. He takes lodgings at hotels and represents that he is waiting for his brother who is bringing a motor car from Cardiff. Had in his possession a cheque book on the Merthyr Tydfil Branch of the Metropolitan Bank of England and Wales. Is believed to have committed similar frauds at Exeter and Ipswich, and used the names of William Humphries and E. Hyman. Warrant issued. Information to Supt, Hildreth, Stockton- on- Tees. Information to Inspector Peters, Mistley, Mann ingtree. 13.— Grays ( County) — For stealing from bin lodgings at Langdon Hills, 28th ult., a lady's gold keyless watch, No. 86851, chased back, maker's, Kendall and Dent, London ; 1 do. long gold neck chain, small links— FRANK CLARK, age about 27, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., hair brown, eyes blue; dress, dark grey overcoat, dark trousers, red and black mixture tie, gold pin, brown tweed cap. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 14.— Glouceste" ( » unty).— F-> r failing to report — Supervisee JOHN DENHAM, alias JOHN EDWARDS, Office No. 220- 04, age 33, height 5 ft. 7} in., complexion swarthy, hair dark brown, eyes brown, thistle right, woman's face back left thumb, bracelet each wrist; dress, blue jacket and vest, dark trousers and cap blue jerssy under vest. A seaman; native of Manchester. Stated he intended going to Avonmouth on 23rd ult., and was seen at Fishponds same date. Sen- tenced at Gloucester County Quarter Sessions, 5th April, 1905, to 12 months hard labour, and 2 years supervision for burglary. Liberated on remission, 23rd ult. 1306. To be dealt with where found. 15.— Gfauccste'' ( ro'- nty) — For stealing a bicvcle ( recovered)— F. BRIGG, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. C cr 7 in., hair brown, eyes blue, of good address; dress, dark coat and vest, dark trousers with light stripes, blue tie, black bowler hat. He disposed of the machine at Banbury. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Gloucester. 10.— Bristni ( fi'ihA.— For embezzling 15s. 3rd inst.— ANTONTO TAFANO, an Italian, age 19 to 20, height 5 ft. 0 in., complexion dark, hair and slight moustache dark brown, eyes dark; dress, dark coat and vest, striped brown trousers, yellow neckerchief, brown cap, of shabby appear- ance. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 11 — Bristol ( City).— For obtaining £! 2s. 7d. by a worthless cheque, 10th inst. — F. THOMAS, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion pale, hair light brown, stubby mous- tache; dress, dark suit and overcoat, black bowler hat. He opened an account at the Wilts and Dorset Bank, Corn Street, Bristol, 10th inst., in name of Alfred John Morgan, stated he was open- ing a large grocery business; was supplied with a book containing 12 cheoues, Nos. C 132204 to 132215, called on several tradesmen the same day, made small purchases, tendered cheques for more than the amount, and received the balance. Warrant issued. Thompson " thereon, sewn inside of one pocket; a " Rover" bicycle, No. 6836, enamelled black, straight handle bars, cork grips with white tips, 2 rim brakes, new Dunlop back tyre, Warwick front tyre, rubber pedals, large Standard cyclo- meter, registering about 1,460 miles, mudguards, new bell, and tool bag, containing accessories; and £ 9— ERNEST JAMES COLTMAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 5} in., complexion fair, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes light blue, round brown mole outside left eve; dress, blue serge suit, jacket and vest, double- breasted, " Hawkes" on buttons, " Army and Navy " on trousers buttons, and the stolen coat and cap. ALFRED JOHN EVERITT, age 45 to 50, height 6 ft. 1 or 2 in., slight build, com- plexion sallow, hair ( turning grey) and moustache dark, high forehead, wears glasses; dress, dark jacket and vest, light trousers, dark cap, lace boots. May seek employment as an Insurance agent or canvasser. Has been similarly employed at Shrewsbury, Hereford, Loughborough, Coal- ville, Leicester, and Nottingham. A native of Kettering.
