W. • , Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. i. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. *. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some per sort responsible for the payment must be given, and the eiact conditions must be clearly stated. *. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5a. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 6 » . to 10a. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 10. 11. | 12. I 13 . TIOKTS. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual formt and accompanied by a covering letter. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, Hew Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. Announcements concerning persons missing can only be accepted on pay- ment; and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. THE EDITOR, New Scotland Yard, London, S. W. J." engraved thereon, thin gold chain at- tached. Prop- erty recovered DEVONSHIRE. 7 — Churfleigh ( Cm. nty .— For obtaining £ 5 by a worthless cheque, 9th ult.— CYRIL F. SCOBELL, age about 35, height 6 ft., complexion and hair dark, clean shaved, upper teeth deficient, nose slightly bent; dress, light suit, grey cap, brown boots, usually carries a stick. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Wood, Chudleigh. DURHAM. 8. — Stockton on- Tees ( County).— For obtaining £ 1 Is. by fraud, 19th ult.— G. GILLSON, age 30 to 33, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, red face, hair light, clean shaved, high pitched voice; wearing light tweed overcoat and cap. Had with him a small toy terrier, wearing a blue coat with red border. He called on a solicitor and induced him to insure keys and property with the Glasgow Key and Property Registry Company, by representing that he was agent to the company. Warrant issued. Hildreth, Stockton- on- Tees. 9.— Sunderland Borough).— For forgery — JOHN JOLLY BENTHAM, age about 60, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight square build, com- plexion pale, delicate appearance, hair ( thin on top) brown, short side whiskers and moustache light brown ( turning grey), rather long head, receding forehead, large ears; wearing dark cloth- ing, overcoat with velvet collar, black bowler hat. A solicitor. Absconded about 13th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Carter, Sunder- land. HAMPSHIRE. 10.— Andover ( County).— For obtaining goods by a worthless cheque— GEORGE DUNN- ING, age about 36, height about 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, complexion fresh, sharp features, hair and eyes grey, moustache ( turning grey) dark, some- times clean shaved, of consumptive appearance, addicted to drink. A horse coper. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bowles, Andover. 11.— Southampton ( Borough\— For steal- ing blankets, & c.— NELLIE MORRIS, alias THORNE, age 48, height 5 ft., complexion dark, hair black ( fringe on forehead), rather large nose, front teeth missing; dress, black jacket and skirt, black mackintosh with cape, with 3 folds, white straw hat, trimmed red and white roses, shoes. A native of Southampton. May be found at low public houses or casual wards. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Southamp- ton. HEREFORDSHIRE. 12— Hereford ( C'i- nty\— For an indecent assault on a female at Madley, 24th ult.— GEORGE JONES, alias TIGER, age 38, height 5 ft. 8 in., well built, erect bearing, complexion pale, hair ( small patch off right side) light ( in- clined to sandy), eyes blue; dress, dark jacket and vest, brown trousers. Stated he was a bookmaker; native of Nottingham, [ s believed to be an expert bicycle thief. ( See Case No. 55, 17th inst.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Marston, Ross. HER TFORDSHIRE. U.- Hatfield ( County).— For stealing £ 2 3s. 7d., 19th ult.— JAMES BUCKINGHAM, age 48 to 50, height 5 ft. 3 in., hair turning grey, bow legged; dress, old frock coat, dark trousers and cap. A travelling shoemaker. Warrant issued. 15 — Hatfield ( County).— For failing to appear to a summons for driving motor car No. A 8469, without being in possession of a licence, 14th May last— THOMAS REEVE. A native of Lev wood, Groomsbridge, Tunbridge Wells. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Reynolds, Hatfield. 16.— Hertford ( n" in> tv).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, 3rd inst.— — WEBB ( supposed false), age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 7 in., red face, hair and moustache dark; wearing a dark double- breasted vest. He repre- sented that he was agent for a Fire and Life Assurance Company, also for a caittle food firm. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Foster, Hertford. 17.— Hitohin ( CountvX— For stealirg 12- at Baldock, 24th ult.— LOUIS CHARLES IMPEY, aee 23, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion dark, hair and slight moustache dark brown; dress, dark brown mixture tweed suit and cap. A fell- monger's flesher; native of Hitchin. May seek employment at tan yards. Warrant issued. 18.— Hitohin ( County).— For dis^ bedjpnce of a maintenance order— WALTER THOMAS SALT, age 39, height 5 ft. 5 in., rather stout build, complexion sallow, hair and moustache light brown, eyes grey; usuallv wears a black morning coat and hard felt hat. Gravesond ( Borough).— lor obtain- ing 5s. l^ d. by false pretences, 13th inst.— A MAN, age about 35, height 5 ft. 2 in., slight build, short moustache ginger; wearing brown rough overcoat, soft felt hat, brown leather leggings, carried an umbrella. He represented that he was an engineer employed by a firm at Croydon, who were about to open works at Higham. ( Is identical with George Crofton, Case No. 10, 10th inst.) Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 20— Gravesend < "" WU'O- For non payment of £ 4 5s. 6d. and £ 3 5s. 6d. respectively, maintenance arrears— HENRY MILTON, age 52. height 5 ft. 9 in., slightly corpulent, full'face, hair and eyes grey, beard and moustache turning grey, wears gold rimmed spectacles, of good address and smart appearance. A grocer's traveller.— THOMAS POVEY, age 46, height 5 ft. 3£ in., hair brown, slight moustache dark, " T. O." on left wrist; dress, dark jacket and cap, white moleskin trousers. Usually employed on barges or at wharves. Has been convicted at Chatham, Northfleet, and Dartford. Warrants issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. LANCASHIRE. 21— Wigan ( County). — For stealing, between 13th and 15th inst., at Ashton, 3 pairs clippers ( 1 pair marked " Brown & Sharpe," others " Ideal"); 6 razors ( 1 Krauss; 1 marked " Genuine ring," Arley, Old Haymarket, Liverpool; 1 marked " Diamond Edge"; 1, " Dispatch"; 1, " Sprock "); 3 pairs scissors, marked " Barber's Friend " on blades; 3 black hair brushes; 1 white neck brush; 12 white towels; 1 tablet scented soap; a quantity of tobacco and cigarettes; 1 brown leather handbag; and £ 2 10s.— A MAN, age 26, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion sallow, hair ( bushy in front) dark, eczema on both hands, right thumb much swollen; dress, light jacket and vest, dark navy blue serge trousers, brown leggings, ' ace boots. A barber; native of Manchester. Had in his possession a " Rudge Whitworth " roadster bicycle, straight handle bars, black enamelled, plated rims, mudguards, free wheel, 2 brakes, parcel carrier on front. Information to Supt. Pincock, Wigan. 22.— Blackpool ( Borough).— For stealing, between 7th and 17th ult., a coloured tablecloth; 1 grey military blanket; 2 new sheets; 1 flock pillow and case; 4 tea towels; 2 roller towels; 4 pillow cases: 1 bolster case; sewing machine fittings; 1 door key— EDWARD JOHNSTONE, age about 25, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, clean shaved, red face: dress, dark mixture jacket suit. Warrant issued. 23.— Blackpool ( Borough).— For stealing, about 6th inst., a bricklayer's trowel and hammer ( recovered)— J. RUSSELL, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, heavy mous- tache dark: dress, dark jacket and vest, dark cord trousers, light cap. Information to the Chief Constable, Blackpool. LINCOLNSHIRE. 24.— Stamford (>-" unty^.—¥ or embezzle- ment— EDWIN COSTON, age 18, height 5 ft. 4 in., stout build, complexion pale, round face, hair dark, eyes weak; dress, blue serge jacket suit, long dark grey overcoat, light tie, light check cap, brown leather leggings ( blacked over) with buttons, carried 2 brown paper parcels, containing a new plaid suit, 1 pair light brown lace boots ( blacked over), and other clothing. A baker's assistant; native of Croydon. May seek employ- ment at grocery stores. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Bowles, Stamford. MIDLOTHIAN. 25. — Leith ( Burgh\— For embezzling large sums of money— ALFRED DAVID CHISHOLM, age 40, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache reddish, wears glasses, round scar on cheek, leans to left side; dress, usually blue serge suit, light overcoat, always carries a stick. Absconded 16th inst. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Leith. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 2C.— Riaca ( bounty).— For embezzling 5s. lOd.— CHARLES LANE, alias WILLIAM and THOMAS LANE, age 24, height 5 ft. 5 in., com- plexion fair, hair light brown, eyes hazel, large ears, twitches one eye when talking; dress, grey jacket and trousers with stripes. A labourer or stableman; native of Worcester. Was employed with a horse and van delivering parcels from the railway station. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Porter, Risca. NORFOLK. 27.— Norwich ( City).— For stealing a bicycle, 24 or 25 in. frame, black enamelled, rubber pedals, free wheel, front rim brake, rod bent at top and rusty, cork handles ( right loose), flat handle bars, mudguards ( end of back one very rusty), " B " Clincner tyres, new departure hub, saddle has been repaired, silver plated lamp, " King of the Road," rubber missing from lamp socket— JOHN COX, alias VIC TALBOT, J. COOPER, JOHN ROSS, & c., age 25, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., com- plexion fresh, hair and slight moustache dark, high cheek bones, varicose veins right leg, wears a bandage, " Alice " tattooed right forearm, ring on 2nd and 3rd left fingers; dress, dark jacket, double- breasted vest, new dark trousers, dark tie, check cap, brown boots, may be wearing overalls. SOMERSE TSHIRE. 28.— Bath ( City).— For stealing, 11th inst., a suit, and a quantity of roundabout and swing boat fittings WILLIAM LOVE, alias JOHN LOVE, age about 25, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., com- plexion pale, slight moustache light, rather long nose; dress, black square cut jacket, dark brown moleskin trousers, may be wearing a light square check vest and trousers, dark neckerchief and motor cap. He was employed driving an engine for roundabouts. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bath. 5 TA FFORDSHIRE. 29.— Longton ( County). — For stealing, at Fenton, 4th inst., a pair brown lace boots— HARRY WRIGHT, alias J. GARBETT, age 30, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion sallow, square forehead ( wrinkled), hair and slight moustache dark, eyes dark brown; dress, fawn colour suit, black soft felt hat, and the stolen boots. A native of Fenton. ( See Case No. 33, 5th May last.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Oakden, Longton. SUFFOLK ( East). 3< I — Stowmarkot ( Coun y).— For stealing at Old Newton, 30th ult., a ferret ( recovered)— AUBRY ARTHUR FORSTER, age 22, height 5 ft. 6f in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, slight moustache dark, eyes brown; wearing dark jacket, vest, and cap, blue military overcoat. A native of Gipping. May endeavour to enlist. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Page, Stowmarket. 31.— Ipswich ( Borough).— For neglecting to maintain their wives and children, leaving them chargeable to the parish of Ipswich— WILLAM RICHARD BEECROFT, age 41, height 5 ft. 6J in., weight about 10 stones, complexion fair, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes brown; dress, greenish lounge suit, black overcoat, velvet collar, dark cap, button boots. A native of Hastings. He belongs to the Royal Fleet Reserve.— ROBERT PAYNE, age 28, height 5 ft. 10 in., round shoulders, weight about 12 stone, complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, cross flags, crown, heart right forearm, varicose veins both legs, carries head forward. A native of Ipswich ; a Militiaman. Is fond of loitering in the vicinity of barracks. W7arrants issued. A reward of £ 1 Is. will be paid bv the Ipswich Board of Guardians for information leading to the apprehension of either of the above. SURREY. 32. — Godalming ( County). — For an in- decent assault on a female at Shottermill, 15th inst.— ROBERT DRUMMOND, age 34, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., stout build, complexion ruddy, round face, short thick neck, hair light brown, moustache ginger, eyes blue; dress, lavender colour suit, motor cap. A carpenter. Is known on the Thames side at Hammersmith, Putney, Barnes, and Chiswick. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. West, Goldalming. SUSSEX ( East). 33 — Uckfiold ( County).— For obtaining a mare by false pretences at Rotherfield Fair, 20th ult. ADAMS ( supposed false), age 50 to 55, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., well built, complexion, hair, whiskers, beard ( turning grey) and eyes dark; dress, dark overcoat and trousers, black bowler hat. A horse dealer; supposed a native of Wands- worth. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Criddle, Uckfield. 34.— Hastings ( Borough).— For leaving hie wife chargeable to the Common Fund of the Hastings Union— WILLIAM COLES, age 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair ( curly) black, moustache dark, eyes brown; dress, brown coat, black vest and trousers, red tie, navy blue motor cap, black canvas shoes. A painter. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Hastings. WILTSHIRE. 35. — Swindon { County). — For stealing £ 6 10s. from his lodgings, 10th inst.— GEORGE SEYMOUR, alias SPENCER, age 30, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion sallow, hair and small moustache dark, slightly Roman nose, ring tattooed on 3rd left finger, tattooed left arm, supposed scar centre of forehead; dress, new blue tweed suit, with slight light stripe, black and white flowered tie, grey motor cap, button boots. Had with him a bicycle, " Kyrle" on transfer. He spoke freely of horse racing and betting. ( See Case No. 55, 17th inst.) Warrant issued. Information to Deputv Chief Constable Robin- son, Swindon. TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 1905. THE POLICE GAZETTE. 3 PORTRAITS OF PERSONS WANTED. LANCASHIRE. 36.— Liverpool ( City).— For stealing from his lodgings, 15th inst., a watch, and £ 5 4s.— FREDERICK DODDS, alias JOHN VILLIERS, Office No. 1159- 02, age 34, height 5 ft. 11 in., slight build, round shoulders, complexion fresh, hair brown ( thin on top1*, clean shaved, " Faith, hope, and charity," tombstone, " IN MEMORY OF MY MOTHER " tattooed right forearm, coat of arms left forearm. An engineer or gardener; native of Suffolk. He obtained lodgings, 14th inst., stated he was an officer on the R. M. S. Oceanic, and absconded the next day. Sentenced at Liverpool Police Court, 4th August, 1905, to 3 months hard labour for obtaining food by false pretences. Liberated 3rd inst. Has also been convicted at Dover, Bury St. Edmunds, Hertford, Birkenhead, North London Sessions, Westminster, and Clerkenwell Police Courts. Warrant issued. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 37.— Y Division.— For stealing £ 32 4s. 7d. 26th ult.— HENRY ARTHUR COX, age 20, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fair, hair dark, PERTHSHIRE. — Perth ( City). — Escaped from H. M. Prison, Perth, 5th inst., while undergoing 3 years penal servitude for theft— JAMES THOMSON, age 23, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion sallow, hair clean shaved; dress, dark striped suit, dark over- coat, black bowler hat, lace boots. A clerk; native of Camden Town. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. light, eyes grey, anchor, cross, shamrock, flag, birds, flowers, and " H. I." left forearm, heart and small stars on right forearm; dress, dark grey jacket suit, grey check cap, probably blucher boots. A dangerous housebreaker; native of Glasgow. He was admitted to the Lunatic Department of Perth Prison on 7tli March, 1905. Information to the Chief Constable, Perth.
