POLICE GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 20, 1905. VOL. XXII., No. 2270. 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THB POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 8. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. I. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. i. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. f. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings uf stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 6s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. I. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. • 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by en officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and. accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. Announcements concerning persons missing can only be accepted on pay- ment ; and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. THE EDITOR, New Scotland Yard, London, S. SPECIAL NOTICE. PRISONERS UNDER REMAND. The aid of the Metropolitan Police is frequently sought by other Police Forces to make inquiries respecting the antecedents of prisoners under re- mand, and such inquiries often result in identi- fying accused persons as being old offenders. But, in many cases, the time allowed for such inquiries is so brief that effect cannot be given to the request for information or that it can be com- plied with only in a perfunctory manner, and at great inconvenience. The Editor would therefore suggest, in the interest of the Provincial Police Forces, that four clear days, at least, should be allowed in cases of the kind, to complete the inquiries asked for. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 1.— A Division.— For stealing, 23rd May last, a suit of clothes ( recovered)— JOHN ALFRED DELANEY, age 27, height 5 ft. 8| in. complexion pale, hair auburn, eyes grey, scar left cheek, sligktly deaf, of smart appearance; dress, dark jacket suit, green tie, black hard felt hat, A native of Darlaeton, Staffs. Has served in the Irish Guards. Warrant issued. 2.— D Division.— For obtaining 2s. 6d by false pretences during August last— G. SHAW BYFORD, age about 42, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., stout build, complexion fair, hair brown, eyes small, eyelids appear inflamed; dress, fawn colour covert coat, dark trousers, black hard felt hat with flat top. A native of London. He repre- sented that he was still in the employment of a key and property registry, he having been dis- charged in May last. Warrant issued. 3.— J Division.— For st' aline: ( servant) £ 209 17s. Id.; 1 cheque for £ 1 9s. 6d.; 2 postal orders for 4s.; 3 do. for 2s.-^ TOHN BURGOYNE, age 22, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair and slight moustaahe dark, eyes hazel, thick lips, square build, inclined to stoop; dress, grey check jacket suit and cap, brown boots. A porter; native of Homerton, London. Had in his pos- session a bicycle, " Wyncycle Manufacturing Com- pany" thereon. Warrant issued. 4.— K Division.— For stealing. 22nd Dec- ember, 1904, a chimney sweep's machine, 17 rods, pan and brush— GEORGE EUSON, alias BAR- KER, age 40, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion dark, hair and moustache dark brown, large scar right side of head, left arm partly paralysed, slightly lame left leg. A native of Poplar. Warrant issued. 5.— M Division.— For stealing ( servant) £ 30, 12th inst,— H. E. KING, age 27, height 5 ft. G in., complexion fair, hair light, eyes blue; dress, blue serge jacket suit, spotted tie, black hard felt hat, lace boots. Warrant issued. 6— R Division.— For steali ig, 13th inst., a black canvas trunk; 5 pairs trousers ( 1 light striped, 1 dark do., 1 blue serge, 2 black with narrow braid at sides); 1 dark brown striped flannel shirt; 1 light grey striped flannel coat, and vest; 5 vests ( 1 green, knitted, gilt buttons, 1 do. with spots, 3 various); 2 pairs golf stockings; 1 dark grey frieze overcoat— ROBERT MURPHY, age 28, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fair, hair light, eyes blue; dress, light flannel jacket, dark grey trousers, white neckerchief, grey cap, old lace boots. Has servod in the Essex Regiment. He seeks the influence of officers for the purpose of obtaining employment. 7.— Y Division.— For embezzling 18s 6d., 29th ult.— FRED BROUGHTON, age 28, Iheight 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fair, hair light; dress, dark blue serge reefer suit, black hard felt hat, lace boots. CITY OF LONDON. 8.— For obtaining goods bv frand, — JACOB MITZKUN, age 25, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight build, complexion dark, thin face, hair black; wear- ing dark clothes and cap. ANGLESEY. 9. — Holyhead ( County). — For stpalirg ( bailee) a bicycle ( recovered)— JOHN ROBERTS, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache very dark, eyes dark and piercing, broad shoulders, knock knees, stoops when walking, blue scar across forehead; dress, dark jacket suit and cap. A native of Llangris- tiolus, Anglesey. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Prothero, Holyhead. 10 .— Menai Bridge ( County).- For steal- ing £ 2— JOHN EVANS, age 30 or 32, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion fair, hair ( rather long and thin), moustache ( short) and eyes brown; dress, dark grey suit and cap, new boots; supposed a tailor from South Wales. BEDFORDSHIRE. 11.— Biggleswade ( Lo< » "< .— For cruelty to a horse— ARTHUR BERRIDGE, alias LEAFER, age about 31, height 5 ft. 7 in., com- plexion fresh, hair ( inclined to curly) dark brown, eyes brown, rather deaf, talks loud; dress, dark brown plaid jacket ( raised seams at back), light fustian trousers, dark scarf and cap. A native of Northill, Beds. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. A labourer; native of Bed- ford. Sentenced at Bedford Borough Sessions, 20th January, 1903, to 3 years penal servitude for larceny. Licenced 22nd April last. B d 1426. BERKSHIRE. 11.— Reading ( Borough). — For obtaining, by a worthless cheque, £ 6 and a dark brown geld- ing, 15 hands 1 or 2 in., hind fetlocks white, scar right side of mouth, hog mane, knees slightly chipped— GEORGE RAYMOND ( supposed false), age about 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., stout build, complexion sallow, hair dark brown, clean shaved; dress, dark jacket suit ( trousers tight fitting), dark tie, black hard felt hat. Appearance of a horse dealer. He gave a postdated cheque in payment of the horse and received £ 6 in change. Was last seen 17th ult. driving a small pony attached to brown trap, the horse described above and a smaller one tied on behind, and accompanied by A MAN, age 20 to 21, height about 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair light; dress, • shabby dark brown suit. OJ in., complexion pale, hair and heavy mous- tache black, eyes dark brown, dots on both fore- arms ; wearing dark clothing, hard bowler hat. A native of Cheltenham. Is a sergeant- major of the 12th Lancers, and up to 6th inst. was regimen- tal- sergeant- major of the Essex Imperial Yeomanry. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Colchester. GL AM ORG A NSHIRE. 16. — Cardiff ( Borough). — Kor obtaining money by false pretences—- — PEARCE, age 42, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., strong build, complexion dark', round face, hair dark brown, moustache ( turning grey) dark, eyes grey, eyelids droop slightly, one leg thinner than other from partial paralysis; dress, dark grey suit, dark tie, black ' hard felt hat. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Cardiff. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 17 — Bristol ( City).— For failing to report— Licence- holder EDWARD MITCHELL, alias GEORGE DONOVAN, Office No. 380- 02, age 27, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes blue, near sighted, scars back right hand and front right wrist. A haulier; native of Bristol. Sentenced at Cardiff Borough Quarter Sessions, 17th October, 1902, to 3 years penal servitude for stealing a watch. Liberated on 2nd licence, 28th ult., which expires 25th prox. 470. Information to the Chief Constable, Bristol. 21— Winchester ( City).— For stealing, 11th inst., a lady's open face silver Geneva watch, black hands, gold numerals; 1 fine link brass chain; 1 long silver watch chain, fine links with knobs between, tassel at end, old- fashioned; 1 silver necklet, small oval links; 1 safety pin brooch, heart and bird thereon; 1 pair of women's dark brown strap shoes ( nearly new); I pair do. light brown single 6trap shoes ( much worn); and 7s. 6d. — ARTHUR VIVIAN BEAUMONT, age 28, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, small moustache dark, eyes brown, walks badly, tattooed both arms; dress, navy blue jacket and vest, dark trousers with light stripes ( tight fitting), dark brown overcoat, dark cap, lace hoots. A porter; native of Winchester. Has served in the Rifle Brigade. Warrant issued. 21. — Win * hester ( City). — For stealing. 6t. li inst., a " Rover" bicycle, No. 35964, enamelled black, white lines, upturned hamdle bars, transfer on head, " Metor Rover" on shield, rubber pedals, hell, black enamelled lamp— JOHN MARKS, a Jew, age 20, height 5 ft. 3J in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, nose injured, both little toes deficient; dress, navy blue jacket suit, black hard felt hat, military boots, No. 520. Sup- posed a native of Whitechapel. Recently dis- charged from the Rifle Brigade as medically unfit. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Felton, Win- chester. 22.— Portsmouth ( Borouah).— FRANCIS J. BACON, Case No. 19, 30th December, 1904. Warrant cancelled. 23.— Southampton ( Borough).— For steal- ing £ 2- WILLIAM H. WALTERS ( a man of colour), age 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., hair ( curly) and moustache dark brown; dress, dark brown suit, cap, lace boots. Warrant issued. 24— Southampton ( Borough).— For steal- ing a quantity of harness and a rug— GEORGE BROWN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 4 in., com- plexion, hair, and moustache dark, small features; dress, dark suit, cap. KENT. 25.— Folkestone ( Borough).— For obtain- ing £ 1 Is. by false pretences, 10th inst. — CHARLES MORETON, age about 28, height about 5 ft. 7 in., complexion dark, thin * face, hair dark brown, eyes brown; wearing dark brown overcoat, black hard felt hat. He calls at Private and Temperance Hotels, engages a room as a committee room for a football club, of which he represents he is the secretary, produces an agreement to be signed, and solicits a subscription towards the club. ( Supposed identical with Expiree Frederick George Harrison, Office No. 2962- 98. See Case No. 67, 4th January, 1901.) Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Folkestone. LANCASHIRE. 26.— Bury ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) 8s.— HARRY — , age 22, keight 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion sallow, long thin nose, of Jewish ap- pearance; dress, short round bla « k jacket, cord trousers, muffler, cap, boots. Supposed a native of Leeds. Usually employed at cocoa- nut stalls at fairs. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Noblett, Bury. teeth missing, supposed upper jaw; dress, blue serge suit ( nearly new), plaid cap, lace boots, brown leggings. A native of Leigh. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cocker, Leigh. 29.— Liverpool ( City).— For obtaining 10s. by false pretences, 17th ult.— A. MORRISON, age 25, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair dark, clean shaved; dress, dark suit. May call on provision dealers. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Liverpool. 30.— Manchester ( City).— For failing to report — Licence- holder JOHN MORAN, alias WILLIAM II. HOWARD, MICHAEL KELLY, THOMAS ADAMS, and JOHN FOX, Office No. 1277- 05, age 54, height 5 ft. 5£ in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, flat nose ( scarred and bent to right), back of right hand deformed, scar each cheek and on right eyebrow, left leg stiff. A labourer; native of Hull. Sentenced at Leeds Assizes, 7th May, 1900, to 7 years penal servitude for larceny ( person). Licenced 3rd August last. Oa 23. Information to the Chief Constable, Manchester. 31.— Warrington ( Borough).— For failing to report— Licence- holder WILLIAM JACKSON, alias WILSON and WALSH, Office No. 330- 01, age 66, height 5 ft. 4J in., complexion fresh, hair grey, eyes blue, scar on chin and over right eye- brow. A draper; native of Clayton Bridge. Sen- tenced at Manchester Assizes, 9th November, 1901, to 5 years penal servitude for larceny. Licenced 16th August last. b 532. Has also been convicted at Bradford, Newcastle, and Otley. To be dealt with where found. Information to Chief Constable Talbot, War- rington. 32. — Wigan ( Borough). — Escaped from custody while under remand on several charges of shopbreaking — JAMES BUCKLEY, alias GLOVER and GREEN, age 26, height 5 ft. in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes brown, ballet girl, woman's bust, clasped hands and heart left forearm; dress, dark mixture jacket, dark cord vest, old grey trousers, old boots. A labourer, frequents common lodg- ing houses, also stays in furnished apartments. Is sometimes accompanied by a woman. May call at houses collecting old boots. Will probably proceed to Yorkshire or Scotland, and be found along canal towing paths or on a canal boat. Pre- viously convicted at St. Helens, Southport, Wigan, Blackpool, and Birkdale. Information to Chief Constable Hardy, Wigan. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 33.— Risca ( County).— For wounding with intent to murder, 4th inst., at Machen— DAVID EVANS, age 24, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark, eyes hazel; dress brown jacket and trousers with white specks ( trou- sers repaired on knees and seat with cloth of different material), cord vest with moleskin back, black and white silk neckerchief, flowers worked thereon, dark motor cap w; th light stripe. A labourer; native of Machen. Has served in the Army. May be found on a new building, in a stone quarry, on public works, or at a farm. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Porter, Risca. NORFOLK. 34. — Acle ( County). — For hous° breaking, 25th ult., at Lingwood, and stealing a watch ( re- covered) and £ 1 lis.— BENJAMIN HYLTON, age 33, height 5 ft. 5 in., stout build, complexion swarthy, full face, hair and moustache ( waxed at ends) brown, eyes grey; dress, dark mixture tweed suit, green, with grey stripes, long dark grey over- coat, dark cap. A native of Buckenham. Has served in the Army. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Basham, Acle. SOMERSETSHIRE. 35. — Bath ( City). — For stealing a green leather purse containing a £ 5 Bank of England note; a banker's cheque for £ 2 10s. on the London and South- Western Bank, 127 Holland Park Avenue, London, drawn by Mrs. Santell in favour of J. Cullen, dated 4th inst., endorsed ' J. Cullen"; and £ 4 10s.— ALFRED CHARLES KELLIN, age 35, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion rather dark, hair brown, moustache dark brown, right forefinger injured, addicted to drink; dress, dark morning suit, dark tie, black hard felt hat. An hospital or sick attendant. Has been employed at- St. Thomas's Hospital, London. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable,, Bath. HAMPSHIRE. 18.— Aldersh *> t ( CountyV— For embpzzliner £ 1 10s. 3d. — WILLIAM McMAHON, age 45, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, round face, hair brown, eyes hazel; dress ( supposed) dark coat and vest, dark cord trousers, dark cap. A labourer, recently employed as a carman, and is believed to have been a porter at Covent Garden Market. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aldershot. 19- — Bournemouth ( 0 » mf » /\— For larceny, 30th ult.— QUARANTA GASTON, an Italian, age about 32, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion dark, full face, hair black, moustache dark ( curled at ends), eyes brown, one front upper tooth missing; dress, black frock coat, light vest, dark trousers, black silk hat. A ladies' high- class tailor. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hack, Bournemouth. 27.— C horley ( County).— For stealing, ICth inst., at Birkacre, a fire hydrant amd socket; and a quantity of scrap iron ( recovered)— TWO MEN ( lst, age 21, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, liair brown, slight moustache light, eyes brown, long sharj) features, bust of woman outside right forearm, sailor inside right forearm; dress, dark tweed coat and vest, light trousers, cap, boots. A rag gatherer; native of Bradford, Yorkshire. Plays a piano at low singing rooms. 2nd, age 26 or 27, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slight build, slight moustache dark, thin sharp features; dress, black coat and vest, striped tweed trousers, muffler, dark cap, boots. A foundry labourer; native of Chor- ley. For the past few months he has been em- ployed gathering rags). Information to Stipt.
