GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 1905. VOL. XXII., No. 2268. • oux. 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOB OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. I. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings uf stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. A. TIOKTS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to_ be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13 Announcements concerning persons missing can only be accepted on pay- ment; and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. A native of Tvnygroes. Is said to have recently been to sea and supposed to have in his possession a discharge book, " ss. Orrissa, Leyland Line," thereon. Stated he was a joiner and French polisher; native of Portsmouth. Sentenced at Oldham Borough Police Court, 4th February last, to 3 months hard labour, for obtaining food by false pretences; has also been convicted at Longton, Worcester, Stafford, Carlisle, Exeter, Torquay, and Chester. GLAMORGANSHIRE . 10.— Neath ( County).— For stealing £ 7. j, 9th inst.— WILLIAM HENRY HAMMACOTT, age 28, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., hair dark brown, white patch size of a shilling back of head, moustache dark, girl holding a sword right forearm, girl holding a single stick left forearm, clasped hands on one wrist, bracelet on other, shamrock, thistle, and rose left wrist, burn mark on back of neck, lost several upper teeth, thick upper lip; dress, dark suit, vest double- breasted, brown and blue tie, light lace boots. A native of Carmarthen. He calls upon military officers and clergymen, representing himself as tlie next of kin of a deceased soldier, and that he has to proceed to London to receive a large sum of money. HAMPSHIRE. 12.— Bournemouth ( County .— For break- ing into a bathing machine office, 9th inst., and rtealing a small bee clock; 1 cream colour sweater; 1 red shirt; 2 splicing prickers; and 7s.— A MAN, age about 24, height about 5 ft. 5 in., thin face ( sunburnt), clean shaved; dress, blue serge suit, blue motor cap with shiny peak, strap across top, military socks. Stated he belonged to Mel- bourne, Australia, that he had served in the Navy, and intended joining the Army. Information to Supt. Hack, Bournemouth. A native of Accrington or Burnlev, Lancashire. Has been a millhand. A groom or driver; native of Llanfarda, Oswestry. " Stated he was a motor driver, and that his car had broken down. Also represented that he war. a railway inspector. ( See Case No. 21, 8th inst.) HER TFORDSHIRE. 15.— Hertford ( County).— For obtaining, by false pretences, 11th inst., a bicycle, green enamelled, gold lined, pneumatic tyres, rubber pedals, drop handle bars, large gear wheel, small bell, pump, free wheel, front rim brake, transfer on bar, " The Favourite "— A MAN, who pave the name of ARCHER, age about 25, heiglit 5 ft. 5 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair and slight moustache brown; dress, black jacket and vest, navy blue serge trousers, lace boots. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Foster, Hertford. KENT. 16.— Chatham ( County).— For forging a cheque for £ 20— C. F. CLEMENCE, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion pale, hair and eyes darK, sailor's head and shoulders, anchor and heart pierced with spear tattooed on arms, cut scars on one elbow, shot wounds left leg, shoulders and on both hips; dress, dark jacket and vest, military trousers with stripe taken out. Warrant issued. 17.— Chatham ( C<> unty\— For failing to le- port— Supervisee WILLIAM HIRONS, Office No. 1324- 03, age 32, height 5 ft. 7f in., complexion fresh, hair very dark brown, eyes brown, thistle and 2 dots back left hand, female's head back and above right wrist, " LOVE F. W." left fingers. A labourer; native of Northampton. Sentenced at Middlesex Sessions, 25th February, 1899, to 6 years penal servitude and 3 years supervision for burglary. Z 72. HARRI- SON, alias PETERS, and GEORGE HARVEY, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion ruddy, prominent nose ; dress, dark suit and over- coat, black bowler hat. Had in his possession green printed cards, " Commercial Motor Car Com- pany, Ltd., Head Quarters, 42 Deansgate, Brisling- ton, Bristol, and Worthington Place, Tallow Hill, Worcester, represented by G. Harvey." The cheques are on the London and Provincial Bank, Bristol Branch, and are from a cheque book which was stolen at Folkestone in May last. Usually stays at commercial hotels, sometimes has with him a bicycle, at other times states he has a motor car or cycle at a local garage. He is also wanted at Lewes, Cranbrook, Hailsham, Lyndhurst, Win- chester, and Hastings. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Reeve, Folke- stone. He stated his father was a cycle dealer at Hackney, London, and that he was pur- chasing second- hand machines. He obtained the above machine, stated he would pay for same by cheque, and decamped. OXFORDSHIRE. 2i — Caversham ( County).— For stealing, 4th inst., a bicycle, 24 in. frame, wide flat handle bars, 28 in. by 1^, Midland tyre on back wheel, Morrow hub with brake, disconnecting front rim brake ( pull up), black enamelled, no mud- guards— — WITHERS, age 21, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fair, hair li? ht brown; dress, blue mixture suit, grey cap. SHROPSHIRE. 25.— Oswestry ( County,.— For imbezzle- ment at Welshampton, 26th June last— WIL- LIAM WALTON, age about 38, height 5 ft. 5 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, stubby moustache light brown, eyes hazel; dress, dark grey tweed jacket and vest, dark trousers, dark blue cap. A carter, has travelled with an entire horse, has also been employed by a haulier at Marsden, near Huddersfield. Ab- sconded 30th June last. Photograph can be seen on application. Warrant issued. 26.— Oswestry ( County).— For stealing, 13th April last, a horse ( recovered)— ARTHUR SPIERS, age about 22, height 5 ft. 5 in., com- plexion fair, long thin features, peculiar mouth, hair light brown, clean shaved, eyes blue, large irregular teeth, heavy eyelashes.
