Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, yew Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning persons missing can only be accepted on pay- ment; and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. THE EDITOR. New Scotland Yard, London, S. W. 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be ta. ken upon them by another force. 8. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be mode in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. In most cases in which Licence- holders and Supervisees residing in the Provinces fail to report themselves and whose arrest is con- sequently desired, the Editor is requested to insert the particulars in the GAZETTE. Arrests on Buch informations are made subsequently, but the particulars are not always forwarded for the purpose of the original information being can- celled as required by Rule 9 of the Regulations ; the Editor therefore desires to call special atten- tion to this matter with a view to the Rul e mentioned being invariably acted upon. A shipping agent; native of Ticehurst or Groombridge, Sussex; well known at Liverpool, & c. She has been tramping the country, stayed at unions and worked at clothing factories. Information to Sapt. Is believed to be a tailor's traveller. He sent a small brown leather handbag, containing patterns of cloth, to Rhyl Station, to be left till called for, in the name of Scott; calls upon tailors and endeavours t » obtain clothing by giving them the name of one of their customers. Had with him a f length yellow oilcloth jacket, " G. P. O.," stamped on inside of collar. He was employed in the Post Office Telephone Department. Stated he was a native of Manchester. LANARKSHIRE. 21.— Glasgow ( City). — For stealing £ 30, 20th ult.— JAMES or TERENCE McPART- LAND, age about 53, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, hair brown, slight moustache dark, thin straight nose, thin features, blind one eye; dress, old brown tweed jacket suit, brown tweed motor cap. A labourer; native of Co. Cavan. Stays at common lodging houses. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Stevenson, Glasgow. 22.— Govan ( Burgh).— For stealing £ 27 5s. — GEORGE GEDDES, age 45 to 48, height 5 ft. 11 in. or 6 ft., complexion fresh, hair and moustache greyish, of smart appearance, walks erect; dress, dark check tweed jacket suit, black felt hat. Has served in the Army and Navy, also in South Africa during the last Boer War. A spirit salesman. May endeavour to go abroad. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Whitecross, Govan. LANCASHIRE. 23.— Wigan ( County).— For failing to report - Licence- holder JAMES GREGORY, alias JAMES DICKINSON, Office No. 2792- 02, age 63, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair grey, eyes blue, mole and blue dot over left eye, and back right hand. A labourer; native of Blackrod. Sentenced at Liverpool Sessions, 9th December, 1902, to 3 years penal servitude for counting- house breaking. Licenced 11th March, 1905. HAMPSHIRE. 11.— Alton ( County).— For stealing a bicycle ( recovered)— ARTHUR WILLIAM TUCK, age 26, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, left forefinger missing at second joint. Is a deserter from the 2nd Wiltshire Regiment; wearing plain clothes, black cap, military boots. A native of Wootton Bassett, Wilts. Absconded 21st ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. James, Alton. IS.— Winchester ( City).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences— J. H. KING, age 24 or 25, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion pale, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes dark, speaks quickly, one little finger deformed; dress, dark blue coat and trousers, fancy vest, dark grey overcoat, dark tie, gold pin, wishbone pattern. Is a good pianist; native of Leicester. ( See Case No. 23, 17th February last). He was at Brighton on 15th ult., where he committed a similar offence. Warrant issued. HER TFORDSHIRE. 19.— Watford ( County).— For burglary, 4th ult., and stealing 6 white tennis shirts ( 4 re- covered) ; 6 Oxford cotton shirts; and a navy blue tie— JOHN FREDERICK LAWRENCE, alias LOVELOCK, age 22, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion LINCOLNSHIRE. 24. — Boston ( County). — For obtaining money by false pretences, 4th ult.— A MAN, who gave the name of ANDERSON or ATKINSON, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., long face, clean shaved, tattooed left wrist; dress, slate colour suit, guernsey, white silk neckerchief, white and black cap, wore a large gold ring. A seaman. Stated he was a quartermaster on a steamship at Liverpool. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Costar, Boston. MONTGOMERYSHIRE. 25.— Llanidloes ( Grunty).— For burglary, 22nd ult., and stealing 2 bank bags, " N. and S. Wales Bank " printed thereon, containing £ 4 3s. in silver and £ 2 in bronze — A MAN, age about 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion swarthy, hair and moustache dark, of smart ap- pearance; dress, dark blue serge suit, vest double breasted, hard felt Bat, new light boots with narrow toes. He associates with salesmen at markets and fairs. Stated he was a gasfitter, and that he was employed by a firm at Shrewsbury. Information to Sergt. A farm labourer; native of Hollowell. Warrant issued. 27.— Northampton ( County)— For stealirg 50 fowls at Cold Asliby, between 1st and 16th ult. - WILLIAM JOHNSON, age 38, height 5 ft. 5£ in., complexion pale, hair brown, clean shaved,, eyes blue, coloured scar top of right shoulder; dress, dark blue serge suit. A native of Bucking- ham. May seek employment as a groom or butler. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Supt. Webster, Northampton. 28.— Peterborough ( City).— For stealing 29th ult., a silver Geneva watch, " W. Curtis " scratched on inside case, gold plated Albert chain attached; and £ l 15s.— 1THuMAS BKKKLEY, age 46, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion fair, hair and moustache light ; dress, black overcoat, brown Norfolk jacket, black trousers and vest, black hard hat or grey cap. A tailor ; stated that he was a native of Newcastle. Is suffering from blood poisoning rash and inflammation in right eye and may apply for treatment at hospitals. Information to Chief Constable Lawson, Peter- borough. 29. — Northampton ( Borough). — For fraudulently converting to his own use £ 148 17s. 4d., 6th September, 19O4- GEOR0E JASON PHILLIPS, age 40 to 45, height about 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey, thin on top) and moustache brown ; well dressed. A solicitor, has been practising in Northampton for some years. Well known in the Midland Counties. Absconded October, 1904. Photograph can be seen on application. Warrant issued. SHROPSHIRE. 30.— Oswestry ( County).— For stealing ( by trick) at Ellesmere, 28th ult., a new plain brown Chesterfield overcoat, with brown velvet collar, large check plaid lining, flaps to pockets; 2 woollen shirts ( 1 light drab, striped; 1 grey medium check, J yd. inside of each for repairs) FOX ( sup- posed false), age 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., com- plexion fresh, hair ( closely cropped) brown ( turn- ing grey), moustache light; dress, dark grey lounge suit, black hard felt hat. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lewis, Oswestry. SOMERSETSHIRE. 31. — Taunton ( County). — For falsifying accounts— FREDERICK INGRAM, age 50, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh to ruddy, short features, hair, moustache, and beard dark, eyes ( small, weak) brown or hazel, blinks, shews his teeth when talking; dress, black short coat and vest, striped trousers, brown or drab colour dust coat or dark overcoat, soft felt hat, lace boots. A native of Bishop's Hull. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Durham, Taunton. STAFFORDSHIRE. 32. — Burslem ( County). — For stealing ( bailee) a cornet and a baritone — EDWARD STANWAY, age 23 or 24, height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, round face, hair brown, may have slight moustache. A native of Chesterton.— GEORGE HANCOCK, age 26 or 27, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair and slight moustache brown. A native of New- castle- under- Lyme. Miners. They became members of a band and absconded about 3rd ult. with the instruments. Stated their intention of playing in the streets of towns in Lancashire. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Hill, Burslem. 33.— Longton ( County).— For stealing, 27th ult., a handbag, containing £ 50, including 4 £ 5 bank notes— HENRY WRIGHT, alias PEDLEY, age 33, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion sallow, hair and slight moustache dark, eyes dark brown, square forehead, wrinkled; dress, brown coat and vest, blue striped trousers, dark cap, lace boots. A native of Fenton. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Oakden, Longton. SUFFOLK ( East). 34 — Lowestoft ( County). — JOHN W. TUCK, Case No. 39, 27th March, 1903. Not now wanted. Warrant withdrawn. T I I E P O L I C E GAZETTE. 3 PORTRAITS OF PERSONS WANTED. 11 METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT £ 20 REWARD. 35. — w Division. — For falsification of accounts, and embezzling £ 2,000— WILLIAM CURTIS RATTENBERRY, alias WILLIAM CURTIS, age 48, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown ( turning grey), may be clean shaved, eyes grey, slight twitch in eyes, very noticeable when in conversation; dress, black morning coat and vest, light trousers, black hard felt hat. A native of Plymouth. Was em- ployed as secretary to the London, Gloucestershire and North Hants Dairy Company, Limited. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by Mr. Bloom- field, Managing Director to the above company, Canterbury Road, Brixton, to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension of Rattenberry. LANCASHIRE. 36.— Rochdale ( Borough). — For stealing. 7th ult., a gold brooch ( recovered) and a lady's 18 ct. half hoop diamond ring, 5 small diamonds, claw setting, may have small red stone in centre— ELIZABETH CLARKE, alms CLARK and GERTRUDE COLEMAN, Office No. 889- 98, age 35, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, scar back left little finger, one artificial tooth front top jaw, ears pierced, very small hands, wears several rings, of good address; dress, dark grey threequarter jacket, black straw hat with row of pink roses, blue veil, black skirt, carried small muff and grey satchel ( with chain) on wrist. A smart jewel thief, visits jewellers' shops, and under the pretext of purchasing, gains access to valuable articles which she abstracts and substitutes worthless imitations. A book keeper; native of Manchester. Sentenced at Shrewsbury Borough Sessions, 28th June, 1897, to 9 months hard labour for stealing a gold watch. Removed to Bicton ( Salop Co.) Lunatic Asylum, 21st Jan- uary, 1898, certified insane. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Barry, Roch- dale. YORKSHIRE ( West Riding). 37.— Leeds ( City').— For failing to surifiider to his bail at Leeds City Sessions, 11th ult., for receiving stolen jewellery — BENJAMIN CONOAL, alias ADAMS, age 45, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) brown, eyes hazel, scar right side of forehead and on bridge of nose. A native of Leeds. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Leeds.
