Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 6s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s. to 10s. SPECIAL NOTICE. The amount of stolen property at present" circu- lated " by the Metropolitan Police has become so inordinately large as to prejudice or destroy the practical value of the records, and it has been found necessary to limit it very considerably. It has been decided, therefore, to discontinue the " cir- culation " in Informationsand Pawnbrokers' Listsof all property stolen in the provinces, unless where there are grounds for believing that the property has found its way to the Metropolis. Chief Con- stables are requested accordingly, when forwarding lists of stolen property to Scotland Yard, to send with them a letter to that effect. And if bills or circulars are received in future, unaccompanied by such a letter, it will be assumed that the " circula- tion " of the particulars they contain is not desired. The same course will be followed with respect to property lost and persons missing. PORTRAITS, JOODCUTS, ETC. ATTENTION is called to the need for restrict- ing the size of Woodcuts and Engravings sent for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, so as to avoid waste of space. The width of a block should be such as will admit of its being inserted in ONE of the columns of the GAZETTE, and should not be longer than is ' O absolutely necessary. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT.
