All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, I. ONDON, S. VV. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 8. Particulars as tu stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the thief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. ATIOXS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual formt and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, Sew Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment; and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. A native of Shepherd's Bush. He was employed as manager to a Patent Carpet Beating Firm, Acton, received monies from the carmen, which he failed to pay in. Warrant issued. He then represents that he is suffering from varicose veins, that he wears elastic stockings and kneecaps, which require renewing, but having been out of employment for 3 weeks has no means to obtain them. Reynolds ") ; 1 pair boots : razor in case, " Dobie, Glasgow," thereon ; hair brush ; and a bank deposit note for £ 155; also for obtain- ing 2 rings by a worthless cheque, No. A617246, at Teignmouth, 16th inst.— A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., hair and moustache light, eyes blue, narrow features, right shoulder slightlv deformed, walks rather lame, small feet, white hands; dress, dark rainproof overcoat, dark suit, tie with red and blue stripes, light grey cap, lace shoes. When tendering cheques he produces the above bank deposit note. He cashed 2 of the above cheques at Bournemouth, 19th inst. Sup- posed a railway platform thief. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Claypath, Durham. 16 — South Shields ( Borough).— For ob- taining £ 5 by false pretences, 14th inst. — GEORGE MARSTON, age 28 to 30, slight build, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., thin features, hair dark, clean shaved, speaks with Yorkshire accent, turns his toes outwards, wears 3 rings on right little finger; dress, dark jacket, tight fitting trousers, hard felt hat. He inserts advertisements in local newspapers, viz.: " Horses for sale, war- ranted sound, price and one month free trial," giv- ing stable address, gives his dupes a form of war- ranty for deposit, and promises to put the horse on rail next day. Had in his possession a black horse oob, 14- 3 to 15 hands, age about 9 years, hog mane, docked tail, sore shoulders, recently singed; a chestnut horse, about 16 hands, hind fetlocks white, rather long joints, white star on forehead, long mane, docked tail with long hair, mouth and eye piebald, bare patch near hip, slight click off hind leg; a light riding saddle, blue felt saddle pad; double rein bridle, double check straps : large ring snaffle bit; nickel plated stirrups, all in good oondition. A labourer; native of Sun- derland. Enlisted at Newcastle- on- Tyne, 10th inst., and was discharged 13th inst., owing to references being unsatisfactory. May endeavour to re- enlist. ESSEX. 18 — Grays ( County) — For stealing a lady's silver keyless watch, chased back, gold hands, main spring broken, bow missing, nearly new; 1 pink flannel petticoat— MARY HOLLAND, alias STONE and GOOCH, age 35, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair black, eyes blue; dress, light grey skirt, black and white check bodice, grey mackintosh, grey woollen shawl, black sailor hat. A native of Aveley. She obtains lodgings, commits larceny, and decamps. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. A mental nurse; native of New Zealand. Sentenced at Gloucester County Quarter Sessions, 21st October, 1903, to 6 months hard labour and 3 years super- vision for stealing £ 3 10s. Is believed to be a traveller for incandescent burners, at one time he traded as Hawlev & Co., Arerave Road, Upper Holloway. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Prvke, Southend- on- Sea. GLAMORGANSHIRE. Cardiff ( Boroii'ih). For stealing from a lodging house, a silver Geneva watch, No. 2022, and a silver curb pattern chain, with silver cross, heart, and gilded sovereign as pendants— GEORGE HENRY ABBOTT, Office No. 670- 02, age 25, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion fresh, hair sandy, slight moustache, eyes grey, " S" front, " G A P " back left forearm, left leg deformed below knee. A painter; native of Lincoln. This man called at a lodging house, stated his friends could not accommodate him, and wished to stay the night; then visited his room and stole the articles mentioned. Has lived near Swansea for some time, and whilst there endeavoured to ob- tain a situation as an insurance agent, and may seek similar employment elsewhere. Sentenced at Sheffield City Quarter Sessions, 9th July, 1902, to 12 months hard labour for larceny. Liberated on remission, 25th May, 1903. 11132. Warrant issued. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 22.— Gloucester ( County).— For stealing a cash box, containing £ 4; 1 postal order for 13s.; 1 do. for 10s.; a cheque for £ 2 12s.; and a cheque book on the National Provincial Bank, Glouces- ter— ANDREW ALFRED STEVENS, alias ALFRED STEVENS, age 18, height 5 ft. 5£ in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, abscess mark left side face, " P" left forearm; dress, black morning coat, dark trousers and cap, white scarf. HAMPSHIRE. 23.— Alton ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) 30s., at Bordon Camp, 6th inst.— EDWARD RILEY, age 19, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes grey ; dress, serge jacket and vest, khaki trousers, dark tweed cap. Welling- ton boots. A labourer ; native of Liverpool. May seek employment on public works. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. James, Alton. 2 » .— Portsmouth ( Borough). — For steal- ing from his lodgings, 5th inst., a lady's silver watch, floral dial; 1 lady's 18 ct. gold buckle ling, chased around edges, set 2 small diamonds ; 1 lady's half- hoop ring, set 5 turquoise; 1 do. 9 ct. plaited ring ; 1 do. 15 ct. dress ring, set square cut ruby, pearl on each side; 1 silver watch, open face, rather large numerals, sm joth outer case scratched, moon shape glass, also scratched— A MAN, age about 35, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fair, hair ( thick on top) light brown, moustache sandy, eyes sunken, rather long nose, slightly freckled, of consumptive appearance ; dress, blue coat and vest, grey striped trousers, grey mixture cap. He stated he was a carpenter, and had come frona Reading. Is identical with MAN, Case No. 16, 13 h inst., and GEORGE MATTHEWS, Case No. 30, 30th December, 1901. HER TFORDSHIRE. 25. — Hertford ( County). — For stealing from his lodgings, 12th inst., a silver watch, photo- graph of a girl at back, No. 281 X 94, silver chain, with matchbox attached; 1 flannelette shirt, blue, grey and green stripe— A MAN, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., scar on left cheek; dress, dark coat and vest, light trousers, black and white stripe cap, lace boots. He took lodgings and stated that he had obtained employment in the neigh- bourhood, committed larceny, and decamped under the pretence of fetching his tools from the railway station. Had in his possession a nearly new bicycle. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Foster, Hertford. KENT. 26. — Chatham ( County). — For forging cheques in the name of S. Gibbons— FRANCIS JAMES BACON, age about 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., stoops slightly, complexion sallow, hair dark ; dress, blue suit, dark overcoat, cap. ( Se « Case No. 19, 30th ult.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Sargent, Chatham. 27. Sandwich ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, between 14t> h and 29th December, 1904— A MAN, who gave the names of HARRY WILKS alias DAVIS, age about 29, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., slight build, complexion, hair, and moustache dark, scar right upper jaw and on chest; dress, blue serge jacket and trousers, dark double breasted vest, check scarf, railway guard's overcoat, blue cap. He represented that he was employed by a Telephone Company, was a Reservist of the North Lan- cashire or York and Lancaster Regiment; also that he was a gardener. He received 10s. from a man at Nonington for a lady's silver watch, No. 15819, open face, chased back, gilt wreath around figures. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Chaney, Sandwich. 2K— Canterbury ( City).— For failing to surrender to his trial at Quarter Sessions, 16th inst., for obtaining money by false pretences ( worthless horses)— JOSEPH HARRIS, age 22, height 5 ft. in., complexion pale, hair dark brown, eyes grey, 5 moles left side of face. A horse dealer. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Farmery, Can- terbury. LANARKSHIRE. 29.— Glasgow ( City).— For embezzling £ 25 3s. 6d.— ALEXANDER ANDERSON, age 25, slight build, hair light brown, clean shaved ; dress, blue serge jacket suit and cap. A stable foreman. Is said to have gone to London. Warrant issued. 30.— Glasgow ( City).— For failing to sur- render to his bail on a charge of obtaining 100 cigars by false pretences— PERCY HAMILTON, alias PERCY MILNWOOD, McNEIL HAMIL- TON, and PETER MILTON, Office No. 1425- 03, Case No. 68, 2nd December, 1904, aee 26 ( looks older), height 5 ft. lOf in., well built, complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) dark brown, clean shaved, eyes grey, square set teeth, scar under left eye, haughty appearance; usually wears dark blue jacket suit, blue overcoat, hard felt hat. An agent; native of Lanarkshire. Sentenced at North London Sessions, 9th December, 1903, to 12 months hard labour ( computed from 24th Novem- ber, 1903) for larceny from hotel. He was employed as assistant in a bntter business, trading as the Workmens* Stores, and is connected with a firm who have bef- n selling margarine as butter. Warrant issued. .^ 5.— Bolton ( County).- For stealing old iron ( recovered)— A MAN. age 48. height 5 ft. 1J in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes grey, scar on nose and face. A rag gatherer ; native of Wigan. Stays at common lodging houses. Information to Supt. Leeming, Bolton. 36.— Liverpool C'ity). — For embezzling £ 4 lis., 30th November last — ALBERT MURRAY, age 22, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., com- plexion fair, thin face, nose turns slightly upwards, hair and slight moustache brown, clasped hands and " A. M." tattooed on one arm; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, striped trousers, light colour overcoat, black hard felt hat, lace boots. Has served in the 6th Liverpool Infantry Volunteers. May seek employment as a shop porter or packer, or may endeavour to enlist. Warrant issued. MISCELLANEOUS. 72.— Description of FREDERICK HYDE, whose whereabouts is required for the purpose of serving him with a witness summons in a case of perjury committed at Usk, 4th August, 1904 :— age about 40, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., square build, complexion dark, hair and moustache black, speaks broken English. A Dutchman, is said to be an engineer and well educated. He served with the Boers in the South African War and came to this country about January, 1903. Until the end of August, 1904, he was employed by a herbalist and specialist at Cardiff. Information to Supt. He falsely represented that he was employed by a tradesman, who required money before the Banks were opened. The cheques were returned marked " No account."
