All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. 1' articulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. A. TIORTS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, Sew ScoVand Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment; and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. In most cases in which Licence- holders and Supervisees residing in the Provinces fail to report themselves and whose arrest is con- sequently desired, the Editor is requested to insert the particulars in the GAZETTE. Arrests on such informations are made subsequently, but the particulars are not always forwarded for the purpose of the original information being can- celled as required by Rule 9 of the Regulations; the Editor therefore desires to call special atten- tion to thiB matter with a view to the Rule mentioned being invariably acted upon. He produced military papers in name of Alfred Victor Gray, No. 1095, late of the Rifle Brigade, and may produce papers re- lating to Henry Alfred Williams, No. 9006, late of the Royal Garrison Artillery, and 11th Bat- talion Imperial Yeomanry. Warrant issued. 2.— S Division.— For larceny ( bailee\ and larceny— BESSIE SALA, age 46, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., stout build, complexion florid, face much powdered, hair brown ( may be dyed golden), walks erect, commanding appearance, addicted to drink; usually dressed in black. Warrant issued. 3.— C Hi vision *— For fraudulently converting £ 55 and £ 57 to his own use— FREDERICK BROOKE, age 55, very stout build, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion pale, hair and eyes brown, of smart appearance; dress, grey mixture suit, grey covert coat, black hard felt hat. Supposed a native of Yorkshire. Warrant issued. 4.— D Division.— For obtaining 30s. by false pretences, viz.: selling a worthless pawn- ticket— JOHANNES GETTLICH, alias BARON DE BROYL GEYTLEIGH, an Austrian, age about 30, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, com- plexion pale, hair ( bald in front) light, 4 or 5 upper teeth deficient; dress, brown mixture jacket and trousers, fancy vest, dark grey overcoat, grey soft felt hat with large brim. Warrant issued. 5. — K division. - For stealing cob, & p. ( recovered), Case No. 89, 11th ult.— Expiree THOMAS LEIGH, alias THOMAS BIRD, THOMAS JAMES, and LEE, Office No. 2067- 97, age 26, height 5 ft. 9| in., complexion fresh, hair and slight moustache brown, eyes grey, scar both sides of forehead and back of head; dress, dark clothes, bow tie. A notorious and violent horse thief; native of London. Sentenced at Ipswich Sessions, 28th July, 1900, to 3 years penal servi- tude for larceny.— F. ROSE, age 30 to 35, height about 5 ft. 9 in., complexion sallow, narrow face, hair light brown, clean shaved; dress, dark clothes, black hard felt hat, may be wearing gaiters. They have the appearance of horse dealers, are believed to be in the Provinces, and may be found at cattle markets, fairs, & c., in company of horse thieves. Warrant issued. 6. — L Division .— For embezzlement— JAMES WILSON, age 45, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., stout build, complexion pale, hair, mous- tache and side whiskers light brown, eyes grey, of smart appearance, very talkative; wearing dark clothes. Lately employed as superintendent of the Lambeth Public Baths. May be accompanied by his wife and child. Warrant issued. 7.— P Division.— For obtaining £ 2 8s. 6d. by fraud, 21st ult.— R. THOMAS, age about 35, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion pale, hair light; dress, long dark overcoat, grey striped trousers, black hard felt hat, tan colour gloves. He represented himself as an agent to the Pru- dential Assurance Company. Warrant issued. 8.— T Division. — For stealing a lady's " Club Swift" bicycle, black enamelled, 23 in. frame, Eadie coaster hub, front rim brake, Dunlop tyres; and a gentleman's black enamelled do., 24 in. frame, Westwood rims, Warwick tyres— ROBERT EWIN SAHL, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair light, 2 front upper teeth missing; dress, dark grey Raglan overcoat, blue fancy vest with white spots, dark tweed trousers, black hard felt hat. Sup- posed a native of Highfield, Bognor. A cycle traveller. Warrant issued. 9. — X Division, - ARTHUR EVANS, Case No. 9, and HAROLD MEAD, Case No. 10, 2nd inst. Not to be arrested. BEDFORDSHIRE. 10.— Bedford ( Borough).— For an indecent assault, 31st October last— JOHN HOBBS, age about 45, height about 5 ft. 5 in., complexion pale, hair and moustache light brown, nose slightly turned up, inclined to be stout. A tailor. Warrant issued. 11. — Bedford ( Bormigh). — For embezzle- ment— VINCENT JOHN BARLOW, alias PERCY WARNER, age 40, height 5 ft. 4i in., complexion pale, hair light brown, eyes grey, small lump back of head and on top of right ear. BERKSHIRE. 12.— Windsor ( Borough). — for obtaining goods by false pretences — ALFREDI DEMAR- INIS, age about 28, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion pale, thin features, hair ( some supposed false) and moustache ( stubby) black, very talkative, speaks English badly; dress, black jacket suit, grey three- quarter length covert coat, long black cape with hood, grey cap, grey tie, small gold pin therein, brown spats and boots, wearing a heavy gold chain, 2 T H E P O L I C E G A Z E T T E. CHESHIRE. 13 .— Crewe ( County).— For non- payment of fine and costs, imposed for using profane language, contrary to the Borough Bye Laws ( Crewe), 12th ult.— JOSEPH FLINT, age 50, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion sallow, hair dark, moustache black, eyes grey, injury to nose; wear- ing dark clothes and cap. A sweep; supposed a native of Cardiff. May be found at common lodging houses. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pearson, Crewe. 1 A.— Macclesfield ( Borough).— For steal- ing, 25th ult., a bicycle, " Smiths of Saltley " on head, and " The Saltley " on bottom tube, Bowden brake, roller free wheel, new Dunlop front tyre, Dunlop tandem back tyre, stamped " Clearance " inside, rims 28 by If, bottom tube of frame damaged near head, flat handle bars, white centre and brown tipped handles LOWE, age about 26, height about 5 ft. 2 in., thin face, clean shaved; dress, dark tweed suit, tan boots, brown leggings. 15 — Macclesfield ( Borough).— For steal- ing, 28th ult., 6 silk handkerchiefs ( some dark red with white cross, some blue with red cross there- on)— FREDERICK PROFFITT, age about 28, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair, mous tache ( slight) and eyes brown; dress, black square cut jacket, grey double- breasted vest, grey trousers, print tie, dark mixture cap, Blucher boots.— EDWARD LATHAM, age about 50, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., long face, high cheek bones, hair ( turn- ing grey) and heavy moustache sandy; dress, short black jacket, black vest, new brown cord trousers, black and cardinal cotton silk muffler, blue cap, strong lace boots. Silk weavers. 16.— Macclesfield ( Borough).— For fcteal- ing from his lodgings, 5th and 6th inst., a pair of pepper and salt colour trousers; 1 do. vest ( nearly new); 1 silver Trenton lever watch, No. 7955, white face, gold hands, chased back; 1 silver Albert, small curb pattern, silver medal ( Maltese cross) and oval gold centre pendant— — STEVENS ( supposed false), age 35 to 40, height about 5 ft. 7 in., stout build, full face, complexion, hair and moustache dark, two of left fingers con- tracted or deformed; dress, dark coat, probably wearing the stolen trousers and vest, and a gold watch chain. He takes lodgings, states he has horses to sell at a fair, or that he is repairing signals on the railway. Information to Chief Constable Berry, Maccles- field. DEVONSHIRE. 17. — Exeter ( City).— For failing to report — Supervisee THOMAS TILLEY, alias ROBERT SMITH, ROBERT STACEY, and FRANK DAY, Office No. 2473- 02, age 38, height 5 ft. 8 in., rather stout build, complexion pale, hair brown, eyes blue, jockey back of left forearm, woman front of both forearms, scar on left eye; dress, black lounge coat, dark trousers, muffler, dark cap. A labourer; native of London. Sen- tenced at Devon Sessions, 7th April, 1903, to 2 years hard labour and 5 years supervision for bur- glary. Liberated on remission 21st ult. 609. To be dealt with where found. He left Exeter on 28th ult. accompanied by A MAN, who was dis- charged from prison about the same time, after undergoing a sentence for burglary. They resemble each other in appearance and dress, but Tilley is the stouter of the two. 18.— Exeter ( City).— For stealing from his lodgings, 17th inst., a canvas shirt with black lines; 1 white shirt, " Drayton" thereon; 1 suit pyjamas, blue stripes, " Drayton " thereon; 2 hair brushes, oval, convex curved backs, no handles; and about £ 1— A MAN, who gave the name of FORD, age about 20, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion dark, rather full round face, hair and eyebrows black, clean shaved, eyes light grey, small pupils, scar about 1 in. long back right side of head, good teeth, short broad finger nails, supposed new nail forming on left thumb; dress, dark navy blue serge suit, double breasted vest, red tie, black bowler hat or grey cap, dark brown boots, " Han- nan " on tab, had in his possession a rather large brown Gladstone bag. He took lodgings at a Temperance Hotel, 15th inst., the following day he took lodgings at a private lodging house, com- mitted larceny, and decamped, 17th inst. He is no doubt a travelling thief. ESSEX. 1 V.- Southend- on- Sea ( County).— For stealing from their lodgings, 20th ult., a black serge jacket and vest; 1 pair light check trousers; 1 drab colour fancy vest with red spots; 1 black frock coat; 6 white shirts, collar size 15, maker, Gardiner & Co., London; 1 print night shirt; 2 pairs full size Witney blankets, blue borders, nearly new— BENJAMIN SMITH, alias GEO. HICKS, age 36, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion ruddy, full face, hair dark, speaks with north country accent; dress, black jacket and vest, light trousers, black overcoat, wearing hard hat or cap. — ROSE HICKS, age 36, height 5 ft. 6 in., hair dark, wears fringe, impediment in speech; dress, black skirt, white bodice, black hat. Was accom- panied by a Woman, age about 36, height 5 ft. 6 in., hair dark, impediment in speech. Had with her a Boy called Teddy, age about 2J years. They committed a similar offence at Gravesend, and left for London, 8th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pryke, Southend- on- Se. i. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 20.— Gloucester { County).— For failing to report— Supervisee WILLIAM AMES, alias WILLIAM WHITE AMES and BENJAMIN LUCAS, Office No. 1965- 04, age 47, height 5 ft. 3J in., complexion fair, hair ( bald on top, turn- ing grey) and eyes brown, scar right top of fore- head, several small moles back of neck, right thumb been injured; dress, dark overcoat and trousers, light grey jacket and vest, small check cap, old boots. A sailor; native of Bournemouth. Sentenced at Gloucester County Quarter Sessions, 22nd June, 1904, to 6 months hard labour and 2 years supervision for false pretences. Liberated 9th inst. 64. To be dealt with where found. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Harri- son, Gloucester. 21 .— Staple Hill ( County).— For larceny— THOMAS MORRIS, age 17, height 5 ft., com- plexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes dark, nose turned upwards; dress, dark coat and trousers, fancy green tweed vest, round green buttons with white line, rubber collar and front, black tie with white flowers, lace boots. A native of Bedminster. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cooke, Staple Hill. HAMPSHIRE. 21.— Fareham ( County).— For obtaining 2s. by false pretences, 26th ult.— A MAN, who gave the name J. THOMPSON, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 9 in., complexion dark, hair and moustache dark brown, prominent forehead; dress, dark tweed suit, double breasted vest, hard felt hat. He represented himself as a traveller for a firm of tailors, solicited orders for clothing on monthly payment system, obtained deposits, and decamped. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Carman, Fareham. 23 — Southampton ( B « r< ugh).— For steal- ing from his lodgings, a watch ( recovered)- - CLAUDE HAWLEY, age 21, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fair, hair light brown; dress, light tweed suit, brown boots. A native of Poole. Warrant issued. 24.— Southampton ( Borough).— For em- bezzling £ 3 8s. 9d. — SAMUEL STARES, age 50, height 5 ft- 6 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light, scar about the size of a sixpence on one side of forehead, red and white ensign tattooed on one arm, anchor on other. A cook and baker. Warrant issued. 25.— Southampton ( Borough).— For ob- taining 5s. by false pretences—- — TAYLOR, age 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., hair dark brown, promi- nent nose; wearing dark clothes, hard hat. He travels the country soliciting orders for clothing, and states that he represents a firm at Reading. Warrant issued. 26.— Southampton ( Borough).— For forg- ing bogus orders for payment of money for a Trades' Directory — ARTHUR EDWARD FUNNELL, age 38, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue; well dressed. Formerly a can- vasser for a Trades' Directory; native of Exeter. He has been operating in the provinces for the past two years with A. Funnel and E. Ayre. ( See Case No. 57). Supposed wanted elsewhere. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Southamp- ton. HEREFORDSHIRE. 21.— Leominster ( County).— For stealing, 7th inst., a brown overcoat, " Morgan, Brecon," on tab, nearly new; 1 dark tweed cap, " Ventair" labelled inside; 1 pair brown kid gloves— A MAN, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fair, hair light, x- atlxer heavy moustache inclined to sandy, red face, prominent nose; dress, light jacket and vest, dark trousers, grey cap, or may be wear- ing the stolen coat and cap. Stated he was a stage carpenter, and that he had been employed in Wales. Information to Supt. Price, Leominster. ISLE OF WIGHT. 28. — Newport ( Town). — On commitment warrant for failing to appear to a bankruptcy ex- amination — FREDERIC HEARN JOYCE, late of Freshwater, age 49, height 5 ft. 8 in., in- clined to be stout, complexion fresh, head some- what pear shape, hair ( thick, may be dyed), moustache and eyes grey, prominent ears, of military appearance; dress, usually Nor- folk suit, golf cap. A notary public. Has served as an officer of Artillery Volunteers. Information to Supt. Ayres, Quay Street, New- port. KENT. 29.— Canterbury ( County).— For obtain- ing food and lodgings to the value of 4s. lid. by false pretences— ENOCK GRICE, age about 32, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion pale, high cheek bones, hair < 3ark brown, clean shaved, eyes brown, is a good singer; dress, old blue jacket, brown riding breeches, brown leather leggings, brown boots, motor cap, wore thin gold wire ring on one little finger. Appearance of a groom. A native of Snodland. He hired a coach- house at a public house at Hackington, and represented that he x- equired it for a motor car, which was being forwarded by rail to the nearest station. Warrant issued. Jacobs, County Police Office, Canterbury. 30.— Dover ( Borough).— For stealing £ 30— FREDERICK ARMSTRONG, age 19, height 5 ft. 4 in., hair and moustache dax'k, eyes hazel, scar on forehead and on right knee; dress, blue serge suit and cap. Had with him a gx- eenish striped coat and trousers, and a fancy green vest with brass buttons. A private of the 2nd East Kent Regiment. Native of Woolwich. Was em- ployed in the Officers' Mess. Absconded 7th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Knott, Dover. 31.— Gravesand ( Borough).— For stealing from their lodgings, 8th inst., 2 lady's silver key- less watches; 2 pairs boots ( lady's) sizes 3 and 4, lined with scarlet silk; 1 pair of lace shoes ( lady's), size 4; 1 lady's black jacket, short, with deep silk collar; 1 large brown tin hat- box; 1 Holland skirt; 1 white counterpane; several night dresses; 4 blouses ( 2 white and 2 grey, honeycomb); 1 pink flannelette night dress; 1 dark brown fur tam o'shanter hat; 1 silk umbx- ella; 1 dark suit, with blue and grey stripe; 1 pair of dark trousers with small white stripe; 1 fancy vest, red, with green check, brass buttons; 1 pair of boots, box calf, size 7; 1 small brown hand bag; 1 dax'lc overcoat, " J. Rose" on tab; 2 gold pins, each set with 8 stones, one missing from each ; 1 x- ed silk handker- chief; 12 ties ( various colours); 1 lambswool under- vest- JOHNSON ( supposed false), age 30, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion, hair, slight moustache and eyes dai'k, bald on top; wearing blue melton ovex- coat, light cap.— MRS. JOHN- SON ( supposed false), age 30, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair light, eyes ( large) blue, impediment in speech; wearing black jacket, black sailor hat. Accompanied by her Son, age 2\ years.— MRS. SMITH ( supposed false), age 24", lxeight 5 ft., hair and eyes dark, round face, impediment in speech; dress, black jacket, black skirt, brown sable fur, black sailor hat. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 32.— E Division* — For stealing ( servant), 27th ult., £ 29 17s. ll| d.— LOUIS FURLA- NETTI, alias FORNALETTI, an Italian, age 33, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion dark, hair ( bald on top) light brown, clean shaved, eyes brown, small round face, speaks English and French fairly we: l; dress, black morning coat, fancy knitted striped vest, striped trousers, dark overcoat, small round bard felt hat. Supposed a native of Venice. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. CHESHIRE- 33. — Crowe ( County). — For non- payment of maintenance arrears— WILLIAM HULLAND, alias HOLLAND, age 52, height 5 ft. 10 in., rather stout build, broad shoulders, complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) light brown, moustache inclined to sandy, fear end of one thumb, may be wearing earrings; well dressed, sometimes wears breeches. A cabinet maker. He had a farm near Preston, and until September last a furniture shop at Chorley, Lanes. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pearson, Crewe. LANCASHIRE. •' A.— Sal ford ( Borough).— For stealing £ 47 while secretary of the Broughton Branch of the National Union of Paper Mill Workers of Great Britain and Ireland— JOHN JAMES WADDI- COR, age 36, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion and hair dark. A machine man; native of Darwen. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Salford.
