All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NBW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. l'articulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. l'articulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the thief officer nf police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. ATIO » r Ji, 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. I 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquentt or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, mutt, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment u- ill be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, Sew Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment; and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. He calls on Wesleyans and repre- sents that he is secretary of a local Band of Hope, and requests that they will take the chair or present the prizes at the annual meeting. He then produces a book, and asks for a subscription. Sentenced at Liverpool City Police Court, 25th February, 1902, to 9 months imprisonment for attempting to obtain money by fraud ( 3 cases); at Chester County Sessions, 7th July, 1900, to 9 months; at Leeds City Sessions, 10th October, 1896, 6 months; at West Riding Sessions, 6th June, 1896, to 3 months imprisonment for fraud. A tailor; native of London. He called on an outfitter, and, divesting himself of his overcoat, asked to be allowed to try on a suit. They took lodgings stating they were staying for a week or two, th « man handed a card with " J. A. Whitworth, builder, and steeple contractor" thereon, to th « landlady, and said he was working in the town. Three days afterwards they committed larceny, and absconded. Pawntickets relating to the under- mentioned property, pledged between 16th September, and 29th October last, were found in their possession, 1 lady's umbrella, watch, light coat, blanket, and portmanteau, at Dublin; 2 pairs boots, suit and boots, silver watch and Albert, leggings, shirt, wedding ring, and tin box, at Liverpool; umbrella, ring, blouse, jacket and boots, at Manchester; dress and pants at New Rrighton. The man was last sentenced at Birmingham Sessions, 27th April, 1903 to 18 months hard labour, for obtaining books, & c., by false pretences. Liberated on remission, 6tn August, 1904. 1062.
