All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YABD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. A. TZONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment; and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. In most cases in which Licence- holders and Supervisees residing in the Provinces fail to report themselves and whose arrest is con- sequently desired, the Editor is requested to insert the particulars in the GAZETTE. Arrests on such informations are made subsequently, but the particulars are not always forwarded for the purpose of the original information being can- celled as required by Rule 9 of the Regulations; the Editor therefore desires to call special atten- tion to this matter with a view to the Rule mentioned being invariably acted upon. Office No. 2957- 00, Tabular Form, 5th April, 1901, not now wanted. .3,— E Division.— For obtaining £ 9 by false pretences— FREDERICK NEWTON, alias AMBROSE MARTIN, age 25, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, hair light, eyes grey, limps; dress, dark suit, black hard felt hat. A native of Cow ing, near Newmarket. He obtained the above amount under promise of marriage. A native of Kensington, London. 6.— X Division. - For stealing £ 60 from lodgings, 25th ult. — WILLIAM MACGREGOR, age 19, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, face freckled, hair sandy, eyes grey, large scar and mole right side, nose slightly inclined to right side; dress, light jacket suit, white muffler, new dark cap. CHESHIRE. 7. — Macclesfield ( Borough). — For embezzlement— PHILIP MELLOR age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, moustache and slight side whiskers brown ; dress, slate colour coat, dark cord trousers, yellow plaid scarf, grey cap, heavy nailed boots. A labourer. May seek employment on farms. Is an associate of low horse dealers. Warrant iaintd. 8. — Macclesfield ( Borough). — For obtaining money by false pretences — M. A. WATSON, age about 67, rather tall, inclined to stoop, complexion fresh, hair white, rather deaf, artificial teeth, of good address; wearing black clothes and veil. A tailoress. She takes lodgings and obtains money by stating she is negotiating with a Railway Company for the sale of land, < Scc., which the company require in connection with extensions. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Berry, Maccles- field. 9. — Oakntere ( County). — For breaking into joiners' huts at the Manchester Sanatorium, in course of erection at Kingswood, between 11th and 13th ult., and stealing a pair strong lace boots, size 10; 1 pair black leather leggings; 1 dark alpaca jacket; 2 spirit levels ( 1 small); 2 2 ft. rules ( 1 folds to 6 in.); 1 table knife with black handle ; 1 metal fork; 1 black and white silk muffler; 1 pocket knife, black handle ; 1 blue enamelled can ; 1 " Champion " razor ; 1 leather razor strop ; 1 lather brush ; 1 small oval mirror ; and 10 penny postage stamps— THREE MEN ( lst, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., stout build, broad shoulders, complexion fresh, heavy moustache dark, tattooing right forearm, hands badly cracked ; dre& s, brownish colour suit, soft felt hat, strong lace boots, wearing gold colour ring on left middle finger. Had in his possession a ball cartridge and rifle cleaner, which it has since been ascertained were stolen in Flintshire. 2nd, age about 27, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., slight build, complexion sallow, round face, hair, slight moustache, and eyes dark, abscess mark right side neck ; dress, dark navy blue suit, dark brown jersey, peak cap, black leggings, light boots. 3rd, age about 24, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., rather stiff build, complexion light, abscess mark right side of neck, lump under right ear, deaf, walks badly, turns feet out- wards ; dress, light grey jacket, black jacket under, dark trousers, blue and white neckerchief, peak cap, old boots). DURHAM. 10.— Gateshead ( Borough).— For failing to report— Licenoe- holder JOHN FRYER, Office No. 235- 01, age 52, height 5 ft 4i in., complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top) grey, eyes blue, anvil right forearm, half ring second right finger, scar bridge of nose and left nostril, 2 boil scars back of neck, may now be clean shaved. A labourer; native of Newcastle. Sentenced at Newcastle Quarter Ses- sions, 5th July, 1901, to 3 years penal servitude for warehousebreaking. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT ( contimedj- ESSEX. 11— Chelmsford ( County).— For carnally knowing a girl, age 1 4 years, at Great Walthara, 13th ult.— HENRY WALDEN, age 60 to 65, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion ruddy, hair dark brown, eyes ( full) supposed grey, large red nose ; dress, brown jacket suit, dark hard felt hat or straw hat. A native of Beaucbamp Roothing. Warrant issued. 12.— Chelmsford ( County).— For breaking into the Essex Industrial School during night of 20th ult., and stealing 26 pairs of red woollen blankets ( recovered); a carpenter's brace, American pattern, with wood top, hole therein; 1 § in. centre bit; 1 small screwdriver, " J. E. Pritchard" stamped on handle; 1 small white towel, " No. 47 " on a piece of tape in one corner— A MAN, age 30 t 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slight build, com- plexion sunburnt, moustache brown; wearing dark jacket, believed black hat with dent at top, slept in straw stacks during nights of 20th and 21st ult., and left behind an old woollen undershirt. May have some red wool from the blankets on his cloth- ing. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Chelmsford. 13. — Romford ( County).— For stealing, 23rd nit., a black enamelled bicycle, fixed wheel, Bown's fittings, Wapshawe back tyre, Dunlop front, dropped handles, large chain wheel ( 60 teeth), I in. pitch roller chain, rat- trap pedals, Lucas " King of the Road" lamp, " No. 106" stamped on one back stay— A MAN, age 24, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fair, hair and slight moustache light, very small eyes; dress, light tweed suit, ligbt plaid cap. He left behind a bicycle which he stole at Laindon the previous day. Warrant issued. 14— Romford ( County).— For neglecting to maintain his wife and family, whereby they became chargeable to the Romford Union, 1st May last— JOHN DALY, age 29, height about 5 ft, 6 in., complexion fair, hair light, moustache sandy, eyes blue, scars left cheek and side of head, " J D " and star left forearm ; dress, short blue jacket, brown vest, cord trousers, light blue peak cap, heavy lace boots. HAMPSHIRE. 15.— Aldershot [ County).— For stealing, 25th ult., 19s. 4d., and 2 wicker baskets — CHARLES HALL, alias MASON, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft, 11 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaved, eyes blue, crucifix, snake, & c., right forearm, 2 flowers back right hand, ship back left hand, " C. Hall " back right hand or wrist; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, white paint marks on vest, fustian trousers, muffler with brown and yellow stripes, grey motor cap. — RICHARD NORTHEY, age about 26, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, grey trousers, blue muffler with green stripes, grey motor cap. Hawkins, Aldershot. 16.— Alton ( County).— For stealing a bicycle ( recovered)— ALFRED JOHN SURRIDGE, age 21, height 5 ft. in., complexion fair, hair dark brown, eyes blue, 2 scars right loin. A native of Soho, London. Is a deserter from the 5th Battalion Mounted Infantry. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. James, Alton. KENT. 17.— Canterbury ( County).— For larceny ( servant)— LAURA DOROTHY FIDLER, alias MAY FIDLER, age 17f, height about 5 ft., com- plexion ( clear) pale, Lair dark brown, eyes brown or hazel, of good address; dress, grey sac coat, black skirt, blue green fancy blouse, white French sailor hat, trimmed white muslin, lace boots. Sup- posed a native of Whitfield, near Dover. Warrant issued. Information to Supt, Jacobs, Canterbury. 18— Gravesend ( Borough).— On commit- ment warrant for non- payment of £ 1 4s. fine and costs imposed for an offence under the Pro- tection of Children Act— FREDERICK PREN- TICE, age 33, height 5 ft. 6 in., rather stout build, complexion ruddy, bloated face, hair brown, eyes blue, appcarance of a heavy drinker ; dress, old navy Hue serge suit, straw hat. A musician. Plajs a gniiar. May be accompanied by his Son, aged 10 years, slight build, complexion pale, long curlv hair. May be found playing at Southend or Margate. 19.— Gravesend ( Borough).— For obtain- ing money by worthless cheques, on Messrs. Wigan, Mercer, Tasker & Co., Bankers, Maidstone — FREDERICK ALLEN, age about 40, height 5 ft. 6 in., rather stout build, complexion ruddy, hair brown, long light moustache ( wavy ends), eyes blue, slightly weak on feet; dress, blue serge suit, white straw hat. Occasionally sings at con- certs. A solicitor's clerk. Is believed to be travelling for an ironmongery firm in London. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Gravesend. LANCASHIRE. 20.— Bury ( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences— WILLIAM DEAN, alias W. H. DEAN, J. H. BARRY, J. TAYLOR, and W. DAWSON, age 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, large moustache sandy ; dress, dark suit. He represented that he was agent for Kelly's Directory, collected money and gave receipts for same. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Noblett, Bury. 21. — Kirkham ( County). — For stealing from his lodgings at Fleetwood, between 21st and 22nd ult., a pair of shoes, size 8, plain fronts, high heels and insteps— A MAN, age about 26, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., stout build, complexion fair, hair light, clean shaved ; dress, black coat and vest, blue striped trousers, old muffler, blue serge cap, and the stolen shoes. A Scotchman. Was accompanied by a Man, height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion dark. Information to Supt. Ormerod, Kirkham. 22. — Liverpool ( City). — For failing to report — Licencerholder PATRICK MURPHY, alias JAMES FORSYTH and GEORGE McCUNE, Office No. 1618- 01, age 46, height 5 ft. 5f in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, scars on right, back and left side of head, and right side nose, half ring back 3rd left finger. A labourer; native of Belfast. Sentenced at Belfast Quarter Sessions, 16th June, 1892, to 5 years penal servitude, remanet of former sentence, and 3 years supervision for housebreaking. Liberated on 5th licence, 22nd ult., which expires 17th inst. Super- vision expires 16th July, 1907. C 590. To be dealt with where found. Had in his possession cards with " Leonard Threlfall, Walton Hall, Nelson" thereon. He left behind a portmanteau bearing railway labels Edinburgh, Penrith, Matlock, Bath containing 4 sheets of brown paper with addresses " Mr. S. Roberts, Ivy Mount, Ingleton, Yorbs ; Mrs. Roberts, Tonbridge ; From Latham & Son, Ltd., Cheapside, Settle to Mrs. Slinger, Bank Hall ; From Beaumont Bros., Ltd., Cannon Street, Manchester, to Mr. W. W. Boyd, Tailor, & c., Ingleton." Information to Chief Constable Derham, Blackpool. 24 — Bolton ( Borough).— For shopbreaking, 30th May last, and stealing about 20 watches— Licence - holder THOMAS HACKEY, alias THOMAS JACKSON and THOMAS HARRIS, Office No. 1144- 99, age 27, height 5 ft. 2J in., complexion fresh, hair ( thin on top) brown, eyes grey, " T A MB T H," cross, and wreath left, anchor and cross flags right arm, " T H," birds, and leaves back left hand, " T S " between left, star between right thumb and finger, nail of 1st left finger split, nose very tilted. A tailor ; native of Manchester. Sentenced at Knutsford Quarter Sessions, 2nd April, 1900, to 5 years penal servitude for receiving. Licenced 21st May, 1904. a 109. SHROPSHIRE. 25.— Oswestry ( County).— For obtaining food by false pretences 25th ult,— HARRY ROBERTS, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion sallow, hair and heavy moustache black, eyes dark, of Jewish appearance and good address; dress, grey coat and trousers, fancy vest with red spots, red or blue tie, white straw hat with red and blue striped band, or cap, brown boots, wearing gun metal watch and chain. Statec}. he wfis a draper, and that he and a brother were about to open a business. Absconded 27th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lewis, Oswestry. SOMERSETSHIRE. 26. — llminster ( County). — For stealing ( bailee) a bicycle ( recovered)— HARRY FRANS- HAM, alias BEVERLEY, age 34, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fair, hair and slight mous- tache light brown, scars both legs below knees, scar on wrist ( supposed left) ; dress, black suit, hard felt hat. A cabinet maker or painter ; native of Bermondsey, London. He served 11 years in the Dorsetshire Regiment. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jennings, Ilminster. 27 . — Bath ( City). — For stealing ( bailee) 20th ult., a lady's black enamelled " Humber" bicycle, free wheel, Warwick tyres, upturned handle bars with cork grips and white tips, front rim brake, back pedalling brake, rubber pedals, new saddle " Lycett's make " thereon, transfer on down tube " Sold by James Thomas, 9 Ladymead, Walcott Street. Bath," No. " 85956 " stamped on head— CHARLES WEST ( supposed false), age 24 to 26, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fair, thin features, hair light brown, supposed clean shaved; dress, grey flannel jacket suit, white straw hat with coloured band. SURREY. 28.— Hersham ( County).— For housebreak- ing at Esher, 27th ult., and stealing a silver lever watch, No. 268023, glass loose, minute hand broken off ; 1 gold curb Albert ; 1 brooch, made of a Jubilee 1887 half- a- crown piece; 1 black leather purse, silver mounts, containing about 10s.— A MAN, of middle age, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., clean shaved ; dress, blue serge jacket, cord trousers, dark cap. Information to Supt. Marks, Hersham. 29. — Reitjate ( Borough). — For stealing, 20th ult., a grey mixture single breasted jacket suit,- square cut, with vertical pockets, vest double breasted ; 1 pair grey striped trousers ; 1 pair light lace boots, size 8, pointed toes ; 1 imitation Panama straw hat with black band ; 1 MAB razor with black handle ; 1 white cricketting shirt with collar ; I white dress shirt with fine blue stripe ; 1 pair dark blue socks ; 1 white handkerchief— A MAN, age about 24, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair and slight moustache dark ; wearing the stolen clothing. He left behind a blue serge jacket ; 1 pair of trousers, " No. 5113 Talbott" written inside ; and a cap. Had in his possession a bicycle. Was in company of Man, described in Case No. 30. 30. — Reitjate ( Borough). — For stealing, 20th ult., a grey check cap ; 1 dark striped tweed jacket, with large slit in lining, left side ; 1 white linen collar ; 1 gold oval pin with crest; 1 dark fancy vest, single breasted, red flannel lining; 1 South African War Medal, ribbon with 4 bars, " J. D. Simpson, 110th I. Y." on medal ; 2 razors with black handles— WILLIAM BAKER, age 27 to 30, height about 5 ft. 7 in., rather stout build, complexion and hair light, rather heavy mous- tache ; wearing the stolen clothing which is too large for him. He left behind uniform of the 2nd Batt. Northumberland Fusiliers, marked " 333," from which regiment he is supposed to be a deserter. Had in his possession a bicycle. SUSSEX ( East). 31.— Battle ^ County).— For stealing a horse, harness, and a van ( recovered)— FREDERICK CROUCH, alias DURGAN and BRITON, age 33, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, stubby beard, eyes grey ; dress, long navy blue coat, old grey vest and trousers, white cotton hat with red and white band, old boots. A native of Hastings. Warrant issued. Information to Supt, Plumb, Battle. 32. — Eastbourne ( Borough). — For em- bezzlement — PERCY PALMER, age 25, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair light brown, clean shaved ; dress, grey suit, black bowler hat.
