All communications for insertion in the POLIOS GAZEIIL, unJ all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THB EDITOK OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, 8. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 8. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. • 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. i> er portrait, and, of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engravers' charge will range from 5a. to 10 » . A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. fl. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. &. TIONS. 7. Annuuncemtnts concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of nut less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents ur stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than- Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All jxiyments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment; and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. THE EDITOR requests that Chief Officers of Police, when forwarding for identification by the Metropolitan Police the Photographs and descrip- tive forms of Persons in custody, will please see that the specific offence is stated, e. g. :— Stealing £ 1,000 from bank ; stealing pair of boots from shop door ; stealing bale of silk, van unattended, & c., & c. This may often prove a ready means of recognition, and Judges have recently complained of the absence of such particulars in dealing with previous convictions. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. A native of Holloway. Warrant issued. 3.— J Division.— For stealing, 13th inst, a black horse pony, 12 hands, near fetlock and small star on forehead white, suffering from bog spavin in joint near hind leg; a set of silver- mounted harness, " R. Warrant issued. 5.— M Division.— For stealing, 10th inst., a dark chestnut mare, 16 hands, aged, face an 1 both hind heels white, short mane and tail, shod with tips and rubber pads on hind feet, wearing i Yorkshire boot on near hind leg, several figures oil fore hoofs, in good condition; a set of bra is mounted harness; and a gig with well botto'u, painted chocolate colour, lined red. contain- ing 1 back and 2 side pads, 2 blue cloth cushions, and a steel- lined whip — TWO MEN, 1st, age 35, height 5 ft. 9 in.. complexion, hair, and moustache dark ; wearing light jacket and cap, bird's- eye neckerchief. 2nd, age 30, height 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, complexion and hair dark, moustache light; wearing dark jacket and cap, white neckerchief. 6.— p Division.— For horse stealing— JOHN O'HALLORAN, alias PAT, age 27 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair dark, eyes grey, teeth discoloured: dress, dark tweed Norfolk suit, black hard felt hat, brown leather gaiters, lace boots. BRECONSHIRE. 1 1.— Crickhowoll { County).— For stealing a dog ( recovered)— JOHN JACKSON, age about 40, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., strong build, com- plexion, hair and moustache dark, supposed slightly lame and deformed right leg; dress, old dark coat and vest, old blue trousers, brown or dark cap, with peak, heavy nailed boots, may be wearing a dark muffler. A native of Newcastle- on- Tyne; appearance of a tramping labourer. May seek employment at slaughterhouses. Stated his intention of going north ( supposed to Blackpool). Warrant issued. DURHAM. 11.— Durham ( City).— Fx*- stealing. lst inst., a dark overcoat, grey colour lining; and 19s.— NICOLA LANNI. an Italian, age about 23, height about 5 ft. 7 in., complexion swarthy, hair chestnut or ginger, whiskers and moustache brownish, eyes reddish, scar or mark on right side of neck, speaks French; dress, blue jacket and vest, dark grey striped trousers, dark neckerchief and cap. Has been employed selling ice cream, also with an organ. He came to England about 6 months ago. Warrant issued. 15.— Durham ( City). — For obtaining by false pretences, 7th May last, 6 16 in. files ( 2 round, 2 half round, 2 flat); 2 spirit levels, 10 and 12 in. long; 1 hammer; 1 2 ft. rule, with brass edges— ARCHIBALD OSWALD, age about 28, height 5 ft. 6 in., rather stout build, complexion, hair, and moustache dark, speaks with Scotch accent; dress, black suit, dark tie and cap. Is fond of singing at public houses. A blacksmith and tool fitter. Is said to be well known at Preston. Has worked at Manchester, Newcastle, and Darlington. Warrant issued. ESSEX. 16.— Brentwood ( County).— For stealing, 5th inst., at Warley Barracks, 36 large silver dinner forks; 24 silver table spoons, all have crest of the lst or 2nd Essex Regiment thereon; 1 suit dark clothes; and £ 5 2s. 6d. — CHARLES KIRBY, alias KIRVEN, age 2( H, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, scar back of head and left hip; dress, dark clothes, blue serge cap, white muffler. A native of Bow. 17.— Brentwood ( County).— For stealing 5th inst., at Warley Barracks, a flute ( recovered) and a clarionet— ROBERT WILLIAMS, alias OWENS, age 24A, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, scar on back. A native of Holme, Manchester; was attached to the 4th Essex Regiment. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Allen, Brentwood. 18.— Chelmsford ( County).— For stealing £ 10 at Danbury, lst inst.— JOHN SULLIVAN, age 23, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion, hair and eyes ( full) dark, abscess scar right of neck under ear, tattoo marks, 3 or 4 dots and a ring on left forearm ; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, black trousers, coloured neckerchief, dark speckled cap, lace boots with nails. A native of Westminster. Is identical with JOHN SULLIVAN, H. C. R. No. 433- 03. Sentenced to 12 months imprisonment at South London Sessions, 21st May, 1902, for shop- breaking and larceny; also convicted at Westmin- ster Police Court, 14th January, 1902— MAUD WREN, age 21, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion fair. A costermonger; native of London. May be found in company of horse dealers at fairs, markets, etc. Sentenced at the Central Criminal Court, 4th June, 1902, to 12 months' imprison- ment, for larceny ( bailee). Warrant issued. Amos, Epping. 20.— Southend- on- Sea ( Co » mty).— For stealing, 8th inst., 3 pairs gold earrings ( recovered); a lady's silver wateh; 1 d ® . chain; 1 lady's long gold watch chain, locket attached; and £ 27 8s. 6d.— ANGELO BALDUCCI, an Italian, age 23, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion, hair and slight moustache, dark, eyes hazel; dress, blue serge suit, white cricketing shirt, brown soft felt hat, brown boots. A mosaic model maker and ice cream vendor. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pryke, Southend- on- Sea. 21 .— Colchester [ Borough).— For stealing 10 Bank Notes to the value of £ 50, Nos. 5 0 691 to 5 0 700, and about £ 37 from the cavalry barracks- JOHN HOWARD, age 24, height 5 ft. 65 in., complexion fair, hair light, eyes blue, scar right forearm and knee ; a clerk, native of St. ruthbert's, Edinburgh. Is a lance- corporal of the 5th Irish Lancers, at Colchester. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Colchester. GL OUCES TERSHIRE. 22.— Stroud ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences— ARTHUR COLLINS, alias GEORGE SMITH, age 37, height 5 ft. 7 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair ( cut short) black. Supposed a native of Monmouth- shire. Sentenced at Usk, in 1896, to 6 months im- prisonment for larceny. and false pretences, in name of GEORGE SMITH. Is believed to be wanted elsewhere. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Biggs, Stroud. ISLE OF ELY. 23.— Chatteris ( County).— For stealing a grey flannel military shirt, white neck band, short sleeves, " No. 9283" supposed thereon; 1 print shirt, rather large blue and white check ; 1 pair black cord trousers, flap front— ALFRED REDGRAVE, age about 45, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fair, hair ( thin on top) light brown, clean shaved, mans's head, and " 1, 2, 3" tattooed on left arm ; dress, drab jacket and trousers, light rap, heavy lace boots. Has served in the Army. A native of Mildenhall, Suffolk; usually em- ployed on farms. Previously convicted at Mildenhall, Bury- St.- Edmunds, Thetford, and Sleaford. Warrant issued. KENT. 24.— Sevenoaks ( County).— For stealing, 27th ult., at Westerhain, a brooch, composed of 4 gold links, gold ball and several charms attached; 1 pearl necklace with clasp; 1 small gold safety pin brooch, with crescent of turquoise, 4 pearls; 3 gold rings ( 1 engraved shield design, " C. J. H.',' thereon; 1 puzzle, 8 fine gold rings linked; 1 plain dress, with oblong piece of gold, 2 sapphires, 1 ruby); 1 black Russia leather purse, containing small silver coins; 1 silver pencil case; 1 steel button hook; 1 plain gold ring, " A. A. H. "; 1 gold safety pin brooch, with pearl horseshoe; 1 small metal brooch, oblong inside; 1 small lens; 1 loug gilt chain, turquoise and pearls at intervals; a quantity of copper coins; and a bunch of keys— A MAN, who gave the name of TOM EVELYN SWAIN, age about 32, height 5 ft. 6 in., com- plexion sallow, hair ( turning grey) and eyes dark; dress, dark suit, black bowler hat, light boots. Supposed a native of London. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Taylor, Sevenoaks. 2. V— Tunbridge Wells, ( Borough) — For obtaining £ 5 10s. by false pretences, 17th ult.— ALFRED or ALBERT SINCLAIR or REED, age 24, height 6 ft., complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache dark, eyes g » ey, good teeth, line dots left arm, scars on forehead, thumb nail split; dress, blue diagonal suit, grey motor cap, brown boots. Is a deserter from the Royal Artillery. He communicated with persons adver- tising for employment, stated he was a foreman at cabinet works,, that he had a vacancy, and obtained money under the pretence of purchasing tools for the applicant. Warrant issued. Information1 to the Chief Constable, Tunbridge Wells. LANCASHIRE. 26.— Ulverston ( County).— if or rape at Kirhy - in - Furness, -' nd inst. — CHARLES THORNTON, ag* about height 5 ft. 6 or 7in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache brown ; dress, grey tweed jacket, black vest, cord trousers, light cap, clogs with clasp fastening. A brick- setter or plasterer's labourer. At one time he was a member of the Morecambe Rugby Football team. Has served in the army. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Whittaker, Ulverston. 27.— Liverpool ( City).— For conspiring to, and obtaining 29,500 cigars by false pretences, 27th May last and other dates— ARTHUR RUSSELL, alias HILL, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 8 in., stout build, complexion sallow, aquiline nose, heavy features, hair ( thin on top) grey, moustache turning grey, wears gold pince- nez; dress, grey lounge suit, grey soft or black hard hat, brown boots. He repre- sents himself as a London Bankruptcy Court or Civil Service pensioner. Is accompanied bv his wife and family, and invariably takes a furnished house.— ARTHUR JAMES RUSSELL, alias ROSE, age about 23, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair and slight moustache dark, protruding lower jaw, stoops; dress, light tweed lounge suit, panama hat, brown lace boots. Both well educated. They represented that they were in business as commission agents, trading as Arthur Hill & Son, and that they had orders from steamship and other companies. Absconded 2nd inst. Warrant issued. 28. — Liverpool ( City). — For obtaining goods by false pretences ( long firm frauds)— OTT ENGLEHARDT, alias B. HAX, age about 40,. height 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, hair ( thin on bop,, parted at sides, brushed to centre), heavy eye- brows, heavy moustache, and beard ( trimmed to point) black, complexion sallow, deep wrinkles on forehead, supposed a Hungarian; dress, usually blue serge or light grey suit, soft felt hat, wore heavy gold single stone diamond ring on 3rd left finger, his linen is marked " B. Hax." He opened a shop in March last as a ships' store dealfer and general merchant, ordered large quantities of goods, which he afterwards sold to an auctioneer in Cardiff. He represented that he had branches in Cardiff and Newcastle- on- Tyne. Was accom- panied by A MAN, age about 32, height 6 ft.,, slight build, hair ( bald) and moustache sandy. Warrant issued. Liverpool. 29 .— Ashton- under- Lyne ( Borough). — For attempted murder— JOHN BRASSING- TON, age 24, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., rather stout, build, complexion fresh, hair and eyes dark brown, front upper teeth missing, 2 or 3 scratches on left cheek, of military appearance; dress, blue morning coat suit, raised seams, tight- fitting trousers, white muffler or tie with red spots, green and white plaid cap, boots with narrow toes. A native of Ashton- under- Lyne. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Ashton- under- Lyne. LEICESTERSHIRE. 30.— Leicester ( Borouoh).— For embezz- ling £ 1 18s., 26th May last— GEORGE A. SMITH, age 40, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair black. A clothier's traveller. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Lumley, Leicester. LINCOLNSHIRE. £ 2 2s. REWARD. M — Grantham ( Borough).— For deserting his 5 children, leaving them chargeable to the Common Fund of the Grantham Union— PENI- STONE HEDWORTH, age 34, height 5 ft. in., complexion dark ( sunburnt), hair and eyes brown ; dress, brown jacket suit, dark motor cap. An Army pensioner, recently returned from South Africa. Has been employed as a postman. May seek employment as a tram driver. Absconded lst inst. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by the Guard- ians of the Grantham Union to any person giving such information as will lead to the arrest of Hed worth. Information to Chief Constable Casburn, Grantham.
