AlV announcements for insert " urn in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all commvnications relating to them, should he addressed to THE KDITOII OI-' THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue uf the POLICE GAZETTE, if the;/ arc sufficient to enable action to be fallen upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will he liltewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to he thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must he given, and the e. eart conditions must be clearly stated. ~>. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen / troperty will be inserted at a cost of Is. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch nf a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engravers' charge, trill range from 5s. tip 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance. 6. I'Jrery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Suocr ' nitendent ; and, if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition m list be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city. or borough, as the rase may be. I. TIONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by. an officer of not less ran k than Inspector, or analogous thereto. S. Announcements of all persons to be apprchendedor of stolen property hear it number, and. as far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. II. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, mint, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. fn all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will he wholly responsible foe any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so us to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and fortius Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They III list be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they m list lie in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering litter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by ' Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only lie accepted on payment, and the charges'for the insertion of the same will be given on application. The amount © f stolen property at present " circu- lated " by the Metropolitan Police has become so inordinately large as to prejudice or destroy the practical value of the records, and it has been found necessary to limit it very considerably. It has been decided, therefore, to discontinue the " cir- culation " in Informations and Pawnbrokers'Lists of all property stolen in the provinces, unless where there are grounds for believing that the property has found its way to the Metropolis. Chief Con- stables are requested accordingly, when forwarding lists of stolen property to Scotland Yard, to send with them a letter to that effect. And if bills or circulars are received in future, unaccompanied by such a letter, it will be assumed that the " circula- tion - of the particulars they contain is not desired. The same course will be followed with respect to property lost and persons missing. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 1.— A Division!— For stealing £ 11 8s.— ROBERT BOSWORTH, age 50, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair dark, turning grey, eyes blue, slightly lame left leg; dress, dark clothes, black hard felt hat. Warrant issued. 2.— C Division*— For obtaining 15s. 2d. by a worthless cheque, No. 130869, on the London, City and Midland Bank, Shaftesbury Avenue Branch, 6th inst.— PAUL RAMEL, a Frenchman, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 4 in., complexion clear, hair, moustache and pointed beard dark, turning grey, slight impediment in speech, well educated, speaks good English ; dress, usually dark clothes, black hard felt or silk hat. A clerk; has a knowledge of photography and chemistry. Recently employed as a farm labourer; was formerly in an industrial school. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. HILL, age about 27, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., well built, complexion pale, high forehead, thin face, hair ( cut short, rather thin on top) light, slight moustache, about a fort- night's growth; dress, dark jacket suit, long light overcoat with yoke, dark tie, black hard felt hat, lace boots. Is a good pianist; a fitter and turner. Was employed since 24th October last as a fitter at steam wagon works at Basingstoke, stated he was previously employed by a firm of engineers at Wolverhampton for 4 months. Warrant issued. Cocker, Leigh. 21.— Liverpool ( City).— For housebreaking, 19th inst., and stealing a 9 ct. gold muff chain, gold cross attached; 1 lady's do. dress ring, coral in centre, surrounded with pearls; 1 do., set 3 pearis and 2 opals; 1 lady's gold wire knotted ring; 1 silver Geneva watch, white dial, gold hands, large seconds hand— A MAN, supposed CHARLES GILBERT, alias AMEY and CLARK, H. C. R., 2623- 02, age about 23, height 5 ft. 6} in., well built, complexion fresh, hair ( cut sjiort) brown, clean shaved; dress, dark overcoat, dark small check suit, white woollen sweater with collar, Japanese tie, grey cap, lace boots. Appearance of a pugilist; supposed wanted elsewhere for housebreaking. Was accompanied by JAMES FARRELL, alias SMITH, THOMPSON, and RANKIN, who is now in custody. Information to the Head Constable, Detective Department, Liverpool. 22.— Accrington ( Borough)— For obtain- ing 5s. by false pretences— MURPHY, supposed false, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 9 in., com- plexion dark, hair black, clean shaved, eyes blue, slight Irish accent, wearing Hussar uniform and overcoat, two war medal ribbons ( 1 South Africa, other dark blue), roughly sewn on tunic; stated he belonged to the 4th Provisional Regiment of Hussars. He called on a Volunteer officer, 10th inst., stated that he had lost his railway ticket, and wanted money to enable him to return to his regiment in Ireland. Supposed identical with CHARLES O'BRIEN, Case No. 22, 5th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Accrington. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 26.— Newport ( Borough). — For stealing, 20th inst., an 18 ct. gold repeater watch, roses en- graved on edge of outer case, gold face and hands, flowers between figures, bull's- eye glass, old fashioned; 1 gold and platinum curb chain, silver cigarette case, initials " H. G. A. C." thereon, attached— ROBERT OWEN HARRIS, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion ruddy, round features, clean shaved, addicted to drink, well edu- cated ; dress, grey double- breasted jacket, brown cord breeches, brown dust coat with vertical pockets, black bowler hat, brown leather leggings with straps. An actor; has been to Australia; he talks of having recently returned from South Africa. May be found at hotels or in first- class bars. Warrant issued. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 21. — Daventry ( County). — For deserting his wife and family, leaving them chargeable to the Daventry Union— HERBERT SMITH, age 32, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, long moustache, curled at ends; dress, brown suit, black hard hat, brown leather leggings. A butcher; native of Woodford Halse, Byfield. Warrant issued. 25. — Daventry ( County). — For deserting his family, leaving them chargeable to the D& ventry Union— CHARLES 1IISCOCK, age 45, height 5 ft. 5 in., comjdexion fresh, hair black, heavy moustache dark; dress, dark suit. A packer; native of Weedon. Has served ill the Army. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Brown, Daventry. 26.— Kettering ( County).— For obtaining £ 1 by false pretences at Great Oakley, 15th ult.— A MAN, who gave the name of FREDERICK WALL1S, age about 40, height 6 ft. 1 or 2 in., stout build, complexion fresh, slightly pock marked, hair dark, moustache light, of military appearance, well spoken; dress, dark coat and vest, blue serge trousers, light colour dust overcoat, black hard felt hat, lace boots. He called at houses and represented himself as an ex- Life Guardsman, and obtained the money by stating that he wished to redeem his medals, which were pledged, to enable him to return to Netley Hospital. He showed a wound in left elbow which he stated he had received in South Africa. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Andrews, Kettering. OXFORDSHIRE. 27.— Woodstock ( County).— For neglect- ing to maintain his family, leaving them chargeable to the Woodstock Union— GEORGE MORGAN, age 38, height 4 ft. 11 in., complexion and hair ( curly) dark, eyes dark hazel, bow legged. A chimney sweep; may be found working as a labourer. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Hope, Woodstock. PEMBROKESHIRE. 28.— Haverfordwest Castle ( County'). For stealing £ 6 17s. 8d.— WILLIAM WILLIAMS, age 38 to 40, height 5 ft. 6 in., stiff build, com- plexion freckled, slight moustache. A coal traveller; native of Sirhowy, Tredegar, Man. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Haverford- west Castle. 5 TAFFORDSHIRE. 29.— Longton ( County). — For failing to appear to a summons for assault— THOMAS BROADHURST, age 41, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion sallow, pockmarked, prominent nose, hair light brown, long moustache, eyes ( cast in one) supposed gi'ey, several blue marks on face and bridge of nose; dress, old dark suit, cloth cap with peak, small scarf, clogs. A collier; native of Fenton. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Sentenced at Stafford Assizes, 1st December, 1898, to 7 years penal ser- vitude for attempted buggery. Released 10th December last, on 2nd licence, which expires 4th February, 1906. Y440. SUSSEX ( East). 31.— Hailsham ( County). — For obtaining £ 10 by a forged cheque— ALBERT HAZELMAN, age 30, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion pale, sharp features, hair and moustache dark; dress, long black rain- proof overcoat, dark trousers and vest, large black soft felt hat. A grocer, and draper's assistant; native of Rushlake Green, Sussex. He returned from America in December last. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Willard, Hailsham. 32.— Brighton ( Borough).— For stealing£ 18, 1st inst.— WILLIAM ROBINSON, alias TREVOR and TROBBER, age about 19, height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion sallow, hair dark, clean shaved, eyes brown, " LLW " and figure or flower on left forearm : dress, light grey suit and cap, wearing South African War Medal ribbon.
