All announcements for insertion in tlu- POLICE GAZETTE, and all com muni rat ions relating to them, slwuld he addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons ichose apprehension is sought will he inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they arc sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4 In all cases where a reward, is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6 Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property will be inserted at a cost of Ins. per portrait, and of 7s. 6d. per photo- graph or sketch of a stolen article. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent ; and, if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed hy the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. ^. TIONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not lest rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. S. Announcements of ull persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and, as far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment, and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. TnE EDITOR, New Scotland Yard. In most cases in which Licence- holders and Supervisees residing in the Provinces fail to report themselves and whose arrest is con- sequently desired, the Editor is requested to insert the particulars in the GAZETTE. Arrests on such informations are made subsequently, but the particulars are not always forwarded for the purpose of the original information being can- celled as required by Rule 9 of the Regulations; the Editor therefore desires to call special atten- tion to this matter with a view to the Rule mentioned being invariably acted upon. DEVONSHIRE. 4.— Devon/ tort { County).— For obtaining £ 40 by false pretences, 1st inst.— A MAN, who gave names of FREDERICK PERIvIN and PRESTON, age 33, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slight build, stoops slightly, complexion fair, thin features, hair brown, moustache ( inclined to sandy) light ; dress, dark coat and vest, light trousers, dark or blue overcoat with velvet collar, dark cap, wearing gold- colour rim glasses, gold watch and chain, black woollen gloves. May have in his possession a brown or dark leather square handbag. He advertised in newspapers, desiring to correspond with a view to marriage, then stated to applicants that he had a house at Weymouth which was mortgaged, and that he was pressed by solicitors for money, then promised marriage and induced the applicants to give him money. Stated he was chief clerk, Telegraph Dept., G. W. Ry„ Plymouth, that he was con- nected with the Y. M. C. A. and mission work at Weymouth. LANCASHIRE. 10.— Bolton ( County). — For obtaining £ 1 16s. bv false pretences at Turton, 20th ult.— A MAN," age 46 to 48, height 5 ft. 8£ in., rather stout build, moustache turning grey, slight beard, eyes grey, wears glasses ( 1 broken), brown spot over right eye, of smart appearance; wearing brown overcoat, felt hat. He calls on con- fectioners, offers for sale packets of food labelled " Goodall's Food Extract," representing that it is manufactured by Messrs. Qoodall, Backhouse < fc Co., Leeds. Is identical with J. B. Goodall, Case No. 37,16th May last. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. NORFOLK. 14 — Pulham Market ( County). — For leaving his wife and 2 children chargeable to the Common Fund of the Depwade Union, 3rd ult. — WILLIAM HARDIMENT, age 35, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion pale, hair dark brown, eyes blue, long thin face; dress, blue and red check jacket and vest, black velvet collars and inside cuffs, fawn colour trousers, light grey cap, brown overcoat, brown velvet collar. A dealer ; may be found in company of gipsies or travelling horse dealers. ' 16.— Peterborough ( Liberty of). — For obtaining £ 5 5s. by false pretences— A MAN, age about 35, height about 5 ft. 8 in., nearly bald, patch of hair on top of head, moustache ( ends pointed) dark, wen and scars under left jaw; dress, dark suit, dark overcoat, hard hat, brown kid gloves, wearing a gold watch, leather strap attached, rings on one finger. He represented himself as an eye specialist, called on persons for the purpose of examining their sight, and sold them worthless spectacles. He gave the name of Churnley. Warrant issued. OXFORDSHIRE. £ 1 REWARD. 17.— Banbury ( Borough).— For neglecting to maintain his wife and family— JOHN HENRY HARRIS, age 34, height 5 ft. 8 in., strong build, complexion fresh, hair light brown, moustache light, nose slightly deformed. A moulder; native of Oxfordshire. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by Mr. E. L. Appear- ance of a commercial traveller. Stated he had obtained employment as a clerk at Newhaven. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Stevens, Lewes. 25.— Eastbourne ( Borough).— For stealing, 30th ult. and lst inst., a navy blue freize cloth costume, trimmed blue silk, strapping on sides of coat, small brass buttons, 2 flounces about 6 in. wide with small tuck about £ in. wide between flounces— BLANCHE BANNER, age 19, height about 5 ft., complexion fair, eyes blue; dress, light green costume with about 2 in. green velvet round bottom of skirt. ' M.— Barnsley ( County). — For stealing £ 20 5s.— FRED BARTON, age 35, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, hair and slight moustache brown, eyes blue, right forefinger missing; dress, navy blue suit, brown cap, lace boots. A miner ; native of Grenoside, near Sheffield. Is supposed to have gone to Durham. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Quest, Court House, Barnsley. PEMBROKESHIRE. 18.— Haverfordwest Castle ( County). — For stealing 10s.— NICHOLAS CHAPMAN, age 30, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion and hair ( thin) dark, moustache dark brown; dress, navy blue serge suit, wearing 3 war medal ribbons on vest, viz., Egyptian, Khedive Star, and Tirah. A barman ; supposed a native of Bodmin, Cornwall. Has served in the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Haverford- west Castle. SOMERSETSHIRE. 19.— Yeovil ( County). — For stealing, 6th inst., from his lodgings at Martock, a duplex half- plate camera and tripod, Ross whole plate lens, brass shutter, maker Prosch, America ; 6 plate holders ; 2 canvas bags ; 1 silver medal, North Western Rebellion, 1885, with bar Sask- chawan ; 1 sapphire and ruby stud, gold mounted ; 1 tortoiseshell card case, silver mounted ; 1 small dressing glass, 6 by 4, dark frame— A. E. ROSE, age 23, height 5 ft. ti in., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes blue, rather long head, square fore- head, scar palm left hand, of good address ; dress, dark overcoat, trousers, and vest, black bowler hat. SOMERVILLE, alias HAMILTON, FRAZER, and GRAHAM, age 56 to 60, height 5 ft. 11 in., slight build, hair dark, moustache and beard ( thick) turning grey, well educated ; dress, blue serge jacket suit, light cap. He obtained the gun on trial by representing that he was a retired doctor, and had taken a house in the neighbourhood. Warrant issued. 22.— Bath ( City).— For obtaining £ 5 by false pretences, 25th nit.— ALFRED MILLER, age 60 ( looks younger), height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., stout build, square shoulders, complexion fair, full round face, hair and slight moustache dark, eyes blue, front upper teeth protrude, addicted to drink; dress, black frock coat, dark grey striped trousers, black hard hat, lace boots. A whiskey merchant's traveller. Absconded 25th ult. Had in his possession samples of wines, & c., a large brown portmanteau, and black hand bag. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bath. SUSSEX ( West). 26.— Worthing ( County).— J. SNELLING, Case No. 57,10th October last. Warrant cancelled. WARWICKSHIRE. £ 1 REWARD. 27.— Birmingham ( City).— For deserting his wife and 6 children— HENRY COGIN, age 37, height 5 ft. 6 in., hair dark, moustache sandy, eyes dark. A hairdresser; native of Birming- ham. Absconded in June, 1901. Supposed tramping the country. The above reward will be paid by the Guardians of the Birmingham Union to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension of the above. Warrant issued. 2S — Birmingham ( City).— For deserting his 3 children— GUISEPPE VERRALS, alias TRIBULATO, an Italian, age 41, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slightly bow- legged, complexion swarthy, hair ( curly), moustache ( turning grey), and eyes black, 1 front upper tooth deficient. An organ- grinder and ice- cream vendor. Is tramping the country with a piano and accompanied by his brother. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Rafter, Bir- mingham. WILTSHIRE. 29. — Trowbridge ( County). — For em- bezzling various sums, amounting to about £ 25— THOMAS MCDONALD, age about 35, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion dark, hair brown, slight moustache dark, eyes supposed blue, scar right forefinger ( top bent), Scotch accent; dress, dark tweed suit, cap, tan colour boots, wearing a gun- metal case watch. A native of London. For the past 6 years he was employed as foreman to a dairy company at Melksham. Absconded 4th inst. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued.
