All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is o ffered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property will be inserted at a cost of 15*. per portrait, and of Is. 68. per photo- graph or sketch of a stolen article. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the ch icf officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. ltions. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not lest rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and, as far us practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, arid accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment, and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. She obtained the above amount from a person by repre- senting that she was well known to loser's husband, who was staying at Margate, that she was on way to Portsmouth but had lost her purse. OA MBRIDGESHIRE. 13— Cambridge ( Borough).— For larceny — TOM KENDALL, alias PENNINGTON and CHARLES LOWLEY, age 31, height 5 ft. 9* in., complexion dark, oval face, hair dark brown, eyes grey, scars over both eyes, right side of nose, and back of neck, sailor with cutlass and flag, bird on branch, mermaid and woman in bathing costume tattooed on right arm, bust of female with hat, woman, fan, snake, woman and bracelet left arm, of military appearance ; dress, dark jacket and vest, cord trousers, cloth cap. CHESHIRE, 14.— Nantwich ( County).— For assault, 2nd inst., and stealing £ 10— A MAN, age 51, height 6 ft., slight build, birthmark on one cheek, one of his legs has been twice broken, which causes him to walk slightly lame and turns foot outwards. A native of Colwich, near Stafford. May be accompanied by a woman, age 44, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., stout build, red face, hair light brown. A native of Milford, Staffs. Information to Supt. DERBYSHIRE. 15.— Chesterfield ( County).— For steal- ing, 29th ult., at Heath, a lady's silver Geneva watch, No. TJ'V'-^ V, and chain — THOMAS WILLOUGHBY, age about 38, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, is fond of speaking Hindostani at public houses ; dress, black and brown mixture suit, light cap, and boots. A farm labourer; nitive of Birmingham. Has served in the Army. Warrant issued. 1S— Chesterfield ( County).— For steal- ing from his lodgings, at Staveley Longates, 1st inst., a Geneva watch, brass case, plain dial, black hands— HARRY STRETTON, aee 18 or 19, height about 5 ft. 5 in., complexion pale, broad face, hair and eyes dark, 1 front tooth missing; dress, old dark suit, worsted muffler, dark cap, strong nailed boots. Styles, Tonbridge. 32.— Maidstone ( Borough).— For stealing ( bailee), a bicycle ( recovered)— ALBERT HENRY STRATTON, age about 25, height about 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion dark ; dress, navy blue suit, sometimes wears overalls. Has been em- ployed as an electrical engineer's labourer. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Maidstone. 33.— Margate ( Borough).— For stealing, 28th ult., a " Swift" bicycle, free wheel, about 68 gear, 23 in. frame, rim brakes, in good condition ; 1 gold English lever hunter watch, engine turned case, circular space on front for monogram, maker, sup- posed, Oliphant & Batsford, key winding; 1 fawn colour overcoat; 2 pairs nearly new lace boots; 10s. worth of stamps ; and about £ 6.— F. BUHLENS, a Frenchman, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fair, moustache light, eyes ( large and prominent) blue; dress, old blue serge suit, dark cap, and probably a pair of the stolen boots and the coat. Was employed at a college as porter. Information to the Chief Constable, Margate. 34 .— Tunbridge Wells ( Borough).— For stealing from a hotel, 30th ult., a dark brown overcoat, straight cut pockets, lined black silk, cloth buttons, " Olive, Bristol," on tab; 1 box cloth Chesterfield overcoat, straight cut pockets, lined grey check cloth, velvet collar, chain hanger, maker Walker, Moorgate Street, London; 2 boxes of " La Diamantina " cigars, 25 in each, maker Alvarez, Habana; 1 black silk umbrella, handle shape of a dog's head in ivory, face'half white, half black ; and £ 13 5s.— A MAN, who gave the name of CARL KIMM, age about 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., thin features, moustache dark, spoke with foreign accent, supposed German; dress, black frock coat, light trousers, silk hat. 35 — Tunbridge Wells ( Borough).— For stealing, 3rd ult., a brown leather sword belt and sword, scabbard and hilt nickel plated. " No. 1 " stamped on or near handle, brown leather sword knot— GEORGE BRIGGS. age about 28, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion and hair dark full face, clean shaved, both hands contracted, turns his toes inwards; wearing khaki uniform of the Australian Contingent, with crests, also ribbons of the South African War medal and Victoria Cross. He advertised in newspapers for a wife, and thereby got into corres- pondence with a widow, upon whom he called and represented that he was a civil engineer in business at Manchester. After a short acquaint- ance he stated that he had purchased a house for £ 2,000, and to enable him to pay for it had borrowed £ 100 from a friend, to whom he had promised to refund the money the following day, and induced her to let him have £ 90, for which he gave an unstamped acknowledgment. On 14th August last a telegram was received from him from Manchester, and on 16th August a further telegram was received from Calais. Supposed known at Manchester, Hull, Birmingham and Cheltenham. A Postal Order for that amount was forwarded to him ; he acknowledged same, and promised to forward the cote on 18th ult., which he failed to do.
