All announcement! for insert- ion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communication* relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD. LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will he inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them, by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property will be inserted at a cost of 15s. per portrait, and of 7s. 6d. per' photo- graph or sketch of a stolen article. 6. Ei ' cry announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person is required to he inserted and no warrant is in foroe against him, the requisition must be figned by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the OAie may be. LTIONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not leu rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as }> rat: ticable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement icill be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the urual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Annou/ ncemfijits concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment, and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. SPECIAL NOTICE. The amount of stolen property at present" circu- lated " by the Metropolitan Police has become so inordinately large as to prejudice or destroy the practical value of the records, and it has been found necessary to limit it very considerably. It has been decided, therefore, to discontinue the " cir- culation " in Informationsand Pawnbrokers' Listsof all property stolen in the provinces, unless where there are grounds for believing that the property has found its way to the Metropolis. Chief Con- stables are requested accordingly, when forwarding lists of stolen property to Scotland Yard, to send with them a letter to that effect. And if bills or circulars are received in future, unaccompanied by such a letter, it will be assumed that the " circula- tion " of the particulars they contain is not desired. The same course will be followed with respect to property lost and persons missing. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. Supposed a native of Stoke, Staffs. Warrant issued. 2.— F Division.— For embezzling £ 1 0s. 2d.— MORGAN JONES MORGAN, age 25, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, high cheek bones, hair dark brown, eyes grey; dress, grey jacket suit, grey soft felt hat. Supposed a Welshman. Warrant issued. 3.— J Division.— For stealing, 21st ult., a " Marlboro' Swift" bicycle, flat handle bars, front Crabbe rim brake, back pedalling band, Warwick tyres, free wheel, black rims— — WATTS, age 22, height 5 ft. 3 in., slight build, complexion fresh, thin face, hair and eyes brown, clean shaved ; dress, grey mixture jacket and vest, brown cord breeches, brown leather leggings with strap fastenings, white Panama hat, brown boots, spurs. A native of Newmarket. Warrant issued. 4.— J" Division•— For housebreaking and fraud— ROBERT SMITH, alias GRATTON, age 24, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, complexion fresh, blotches on face, hair and slight moustache light, scar left side of forehead to eyebrow, 1 upper tooth deficient; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, black trousers, red and green shot tie, black hard felt hat, lace boots, wearing 2 South African medal ribbons on vest. CITY OF LONDON. 5.— For fraudulently applying to his own use 2 bankers' cheques, value £ 5,000— HOWARD HODGES, age 57, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion sallow, thin face, hair ( bald on top), moustache and beard ( cut short, turning grey) light brown ; dress ( usually), blue serge jacket suit, brown straw, grey soft felt, or bowler hat. BERKSHIRE. 6.— Reading { Borough). — For stealing, 22nd ult., a " Pullman " free wheel bicycle, Pull- man tyres, Sunback rim brake, flat handle bar, cork grips, rat- trap pedals, $ in. pitch roller chain, " Pullman" transfer on head, enamelled black, gold lined— A MAN, who gave the name of HARRY TURNER, age 25, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fair, hair ( curly) light, eyes blue' ( nearly blind right eye, brown speck thereon), moustache light; dress, blue pilot coat and vest,' light brown trousers, brown cap, heavy boots. A navvy. May be found at Sheffield or Nottingham. Is known at Avon Mouth Docks, Bristol. 7— Reading { Borough).— For stealing £ 70 and a " Singer " sewing machine— LAURA ANN LEVY, age 40, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., rather stout build, round features, hair ( turning grey) black, eyes dark; dress, blue jacket and skirt, light blouse, white sailor hat. Had in her possession a quantity of clothing and a marriage certificate — FREDERICK BAREFOOT, age 47, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., hair dark brown, heavy droop- ing moustache brown, small blotchy face, addicted to drink, fond of horse racing ; dress, slate colour morning coat and vest, brown Alpine hat. A painter. Had in his possession small brown leather and glazed black bags; a black wooden box, 24 in. by 18 in.; 1 brown tin hat box, oval; several blankets and sheets sewn up in canvas; 2 parcels made in a similar manner; and a " Tate " sugar box. BUCKING HA MS HI RE. 8.— Great Marlow ( County).— On com- mitment warrant for assault— AMOS MANASSEH FIDLER, age 39, height about 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair grey, moustache brown, addicted to drink; dress,' blue reefer ( double- breasted) jacket, black vest, grey trousers, black tie, straw hat with black and red band, Blucher boots. A dispenser; native of Plymouth. May seek employment as a painter. Is known at Balham and Swindon. Information to Supt. Summers, High Wycombe. CHESHIRE. 9.— Macclesfield [ County).— For steal- ing from his lodgings, 29th ult., a silver English lever watch, No. 38466, gold hands, seconds fingers, maker Kuffeman ; and £ 2 2s. 6d.— HERBERT EDWARD WALKER, age 18, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion and hair dark, rather full face, rash on cheeks, stoops slightly; dress, dark jacket suit and cap, lace boots, wore a silver guard. A clerk ; native of Pott Shrigley. He served 5 years in Bleasdale Reformatory for obtaining money by false pretences, and was sentenced to 2 months imprisonment at Barrow- in- Furnesa, September, 1901, for stealing a bicycle. ESSEX. 11.— Brentwood ( County).— For stealing, 26th ult., a lady's gold watch and chain ( recovered) ; I do. 18 ct. gold ring, set 3 or 5 diamonds— ELIZIRA TITZCK, alias ALSAC MARSH, DAISY MARSH, and MARSHALL, age 19, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion, hair ( short and curly) and eyes dark; dress, black jacket and skirt, large black straw hat with black band, steel buckle at side. Warrant issued. 12.— Brentwood ( County).— For stealing, 30th tilt., a bicycle, transfer on head " Harris," 24 in. frame, flat handle bars, lady's Lamplough saddle, rat- trap pedals, black enamelled, lined gold, new rubber cover on front wheel, no mud- guards or brake; a Swiss lever watch, small piece chipped out of centre of face, German silver cases, seconds hand dial at bottom of face, opens at front and back, almanack inside back case ; 1 ® i 1 ver chain, curb pattern, small silver heart- shape locket attached, links and heart stamped— MARK DORRINGTON, age 24, height 5 ft, 4J in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue ; dress, grey jacket and vest, dark trousers, brown leather boots. FLINTSHIRE. 13.— Holywell ( County).— For stealing, 18th ult., a small brown portmanteau ; 1 book, " Prac- tical Printer," " John Lewis Meredith" written inside ; 1 lady's gold keyless watch, gold face, makers, Pain Brothers, Hastings; 1 do. silver watch and neckchain, engraved " E." or " Edith Rowberry," and £ 2 10s. 6d.— BERT E. WYATT, alias E. E. WYATT, age 28, height about 5 ft. 7 in., complexion, hair and slight moustache dark, thick lips, left forefinger injured, front upper teeth missing: dress, blue coat and vest, pepper and salt trousers, hat with pointed crown, brown boots. A printer's machinist; supposed a native of Bradford. Warrant issued. Information to Supt, Jones, Holywell. HEREFORDSHIRE. 14.— Ledbury ( County).— For embezzling 3s. 6d., 16th ult.— FRANK LEA, age 24, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion sallow, hair dark, tuft in front, clean shaved, eyes ( weak) hazel, turns his toes inwards when walking; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, grey trousers, and cap. A barber's assistant; native of Leamington. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Phillips, Ledbury. 15.— Leominster ( County).— For larceny, 20th ult. — CHARLES POCKNELL, age 49, height 5 ft. 6£ in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, moustache dark, eyes grey, scar both lips and on chin; dress, dark suit, brown peak cap, strong nailed boots. Is supposed to have other clothing in his possession. A native of Townhope, near Hereford. Usually obtains employment at farm houses. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Price, Leominster. KENT. 1< 6.— West Mailing ( County).— For high- way robbery at Addington, 23rd ult.— JOSEPH SMITH, alias BROWN, age 50, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion and hair dark, clean shaved, large forehead, varicose veins both legs ; dress, black pilot cloth jacket, moleskin trousers, coloured neckerchief, dark cap. Supposed known at Whitechapel, London. Warrant issued. 17.— West Mailing ( County) — For leaving his child chargeable to the Common Fund of the Mailing Union— JAMES APPLETON, age about 32, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fair, hair dark brown, slight moustache light ; usually wears a wrap and skull cap. A painter or labourer; native of Plumstead. Warrant issued. 18.— West Mailing ( C< mnty).— For larceny at Leybourne, 20thult.— ELIZABETH PERKINS, age 23, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight build, com- plexion pale, hair light brown, eyes blue ; dress, black and white blouse, brown skirt, black sailor hat, sometimes wears a blue jacket. A native of Deptford. Previously convicted at Blackheath. Warrant issued. MONTGOMER YSHIRE. 23.— Newtown ( County).— For embezzle- ment— HENRY JAMES DOVER, age about 40, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., square shoulders, walks erect, complexion pale, full face, hair ( bald on top) and heavy moustache sandy, eyes supposed blue, one forefinger deformed ; dress, Norfolk jacket suit, heather mixture, dark green cap red stripes, light lace boots with pointed toes, wearing leather watch guard, carried 2 brown bags ( 1 an 18 in. half- Gladstone, other an 18 in. brief), both containing samples of stationery, papers, & c. NORFOLK. 24.— King ' s Lynn( Borough).— For stealing, 28th ult., a silver Geneva watch, No. 210941; 1 silver curb pattern chain; 1 spirit level; 1 white handle razor; 1 black do.; 1 blue and white print 6hirt; 1 pair blue and white stripe braces; and 8 or 9 books— A MAN, name sup- posed GREEN, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., well built, hair light brown, slight moustache iight, 1 upper and 1 lower tooth missing; dress, dark grey tweed jacket suit and cap, or brown jacket, striped tweed trousers, black hard felt hat. An engine driver. Has been employed by a round- about proprietor, and travelled with a cinematograph company. 25 — King's Lynn ( Borough).— For em- bezzlement— GEORGE EDWARD BUSH, age 26, height 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, complexion fresh, high cheek bones, hair brown, clean shaved, eyes hazel. A wine and spirit merchant's clerk; native of Peterboro'. May be found in company of betting men. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, King's Lynn. NOR THUMBERLA ND. 26.— Morpeth ( County).— For stealing a bicycle, " Albany" make, Palmer tyres, mud- guards, rubber pedals, brake and lamp— A MAN, who gave the name of — WILKIE, age about 23, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fair, full round face, slight moustache ginger, speaks with foreign accent, supposed well educated; dress, dark coat and vest, dark striped trousers, straw hat. Stated he was a doctor. Was last seen, 8th ult., riding towards Jedburgh. Is believed identical with John Smith, Case No. 38, 25th June last. Warrant issued. 27.— Morpeth ( County).— For deserting his wife and family, leaving them chargeable to the Morpeth Union, 30th June last— GEORGE WALLACE, age 42, height 5 ft. 10£ in., slight build, complexion dark, hair ( turning grey) dark, moustache light, small feet, leans forward when walking; dress, blue- grey suit. A miner; native of Longhorsley. Warrant issued. For deserting his children, leaving them chargeable to the Morpeth Union, 21st November, 1901— WILLIAM MOUNSEY, age 38, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion dark, hair and moustache dark brown, leans forward when walking. A labourer; native of Morpeth. Warrant issued. A reward of 10s. will be paid by the Board of Guardians, Morpeth Union, to any person giving such information as will lead to the arrest of either Wallace or Mounsey. Information to the Chief Constable, Notting- ham. 5 TA FFORDSHIRE. 29.— Longton ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, 28th ult., a silver lever stop watch, plain case, gold hands, black seconds hand; 1 gold shield pattern pin; 1 morocco pouch; 1 lady's silver Geneva watch, white dial, floral design in centre, gold pencil case, engraved, and seal at end; 1 small black match box, inlaid with imitation pearls; 1 small nickel penknife, pen- holder, and pencil case to match ; 1 comb, in imitation ivory case with a view of ( supposed) Wellington or Taunton thereon — JAMES WALLIS, alias JAMES WILLIAMS, and J AMES THOMPSON, Office No. 1525- 01 ( see Case No. 28, 25th June last), age 26, height 5 ft. 3f in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaved, eyes grey, scar over each eyebrow, small decayed teeth ( very noticeable); dress, dark cloth suit, light lace boots, and cloth cap. Stated he was employed at Lipton's. He is identical with the man wanted at Walsall, Leicester, Leamington, and various other places. Warrant issued. 30.— Longton ( County).— For obtaining. 25th ult., food, lodgings and money by fraud— WALTER HOLFORD, age about 21, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., rather slight build, complexion dark, hair and slight moustache black, eyes dark, left forefinger missing; dress, navy blue suit, dark tweed cap, white tie, light lace boots. He took lodgings, stating that he had obtained employment at a colour merchants, and obtained 5s. under the pretence of fetching his box from the railway station. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. B. tyres, rat- trap pedals, toe clips, chain wheel about 56 teeth, no mudguards, short nickel- plated pump, one clip missing, one end fastened with string, large Challis pattern bell— ALFRED WILSON, age 22, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion pale, slight moustache light; dress, dark jacket, dark fancy vest with white spots, grey trousers with dark stripes, dark cap, brown lace boots. YORKSHIRE ( West Riding). 35.— Halifax { County).— For carnally know- ing a girl under the age of 13, 29th July last, at Norland — JOSEFH HARLING, age 41 ( looks younger), height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, pittern, black soft felt hat, or steel- grey jacket suit, " Ilepworth, Tailor, Market Street, Man- chester," on tab, i. nd steel- grey overcoat, " Beaty Bros." on tab. A native of Norfolk. Was sentenced at the Central Criminal Court, 12th September, 1899, to 14 months imprisonment for forgery. Warrant issued. SUSSEX ( West), f 36.— Steyning { County).— For stealing £ 4 5s. 7£ d., at Woodmancote, 27th ult.— THOMAS ANSCOMBE, age about 36, height 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, hair ( slightly bald) and moustachelight brown, eyes blue ; dress, dark grey ( morning coat) suit, black hard hat, light lace boots. A labourer; native of Hurstpierpoint. Sometimes employed as a painter. Absconded 27th ult.; stated he was going to work for a firm of iron girder makers at Southwark, London.
