In the case of Marines not embarked who have deserted from the head quarters of their Divisions, the Army Descriptive Return, as specified in the 4th Schedule of the Army Act, 1881, should be used. Erery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must he guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent: and, if the name of such person is required to he inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his im mediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. VTIOIVS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property mutt be guaranteed by an officer of not lea rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. An/ iouncements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and, us far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Annan ncements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a corering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The following is a copy of the order which governs the circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the, discovery of property or the detection of crime. The Editor inserts it, in hope of preventing delays which some- times occur in publishing such notices, on account of their not being in accordance with the regula- tions in force in the Metropolis :— 1.— Printed hand- bills, or other advertisements, offering a reward for the discovery ot property or the detection of crime, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibited, with the sanction of the Commis- sioners, on the application of private persons, or of the Police of any County or Borough, must be clearly expressed in relation to the following points :— ([ a) The amount of the reward. ( A) The conditions on which it is payable. (<•) The name and address of the person by whom it will be paid. ( d) The name and address of the printer must appear thereon. 2.— No expression must be used in such an advertisement, in relation to property stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holding out any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offender being brought to trial, or without enquiry. Attention is particularlydirected to the conditions ( ci) to ( d), clause 1, as Police Notices are constantly being received by the Metropolitan Police in which the conditions mentioned have not been complied with, especially those marked ( a) and ( c). Is accompanied by his wife and child.— JOHN LEE, age 38, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, moustache sandy. Travels the country in a long spring cart, painted blue. Accompanied by his wife and children. Warrants issued. 26.— Haverfordwest Castle ( County). — For leaving his wife and children chargeable to the Common Fund of the Poor Law Union— ENOCH WILLIAMS, age 44, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion, hair and moustache dark, eyes blue, female tattooed on right forearm, anchor back right band.
